I was such a casual before /shelf/ so I can honestly say that this thread is what got me into collecting.

>>What got you into collecting comics?
my OCD combined with too much disposable income
>>What is your favorite comic?
after all these years it's probably still All Star Superman. honorable mention to Roy Thomas on Savage Sword and Walt Simonson on Thor.

It's been quite a while since i posted my shelves, i haven't bought anything new aside from the first trade of The Flintstones.that should be arriving this friday
Those The Spirit figures are nice
I only have a Bernie Wrightson one that's mostly designs for The Gang of Seven Studio

still a tie between Kabuki and Ring of the Niblungs. I doubt anything will ever change this

Sucks that library 2-4 are so expensive. I can only ever buy the first one. Will that satisfy me?

>What got you into collecting comics?
Pure unadultered autism and a bit of Spider-man 2

Planetary, Hey Wait..., Shade The Changing Man (both Ditko and Milligan), Starman and Spider-Man Blue are all tied for first place

buy the original Circle of Blood hardcover. I probably talked to you last thread. I am sure they will reprint the whole library series cause it's one of their most respected books

reposting my question about if box shelves are better or worse than normal shelves.

Unironically the MCU. Starting with 2008's Iron Man (and still all the great Nolan Batman movies at the same time) there was just so much comic book energy in the air. One couldn't help but be curious. I've always liked Superheroes since I was a kid with the DCAU and early Spider-Man and X-Men movies, but this decade has been so much more. I sincerely doubt I ever would have gotten into the hobby if not for this massive cultural boom of superheroes. And boy am I glad for it. I fucking love comic books.

um....

Attached: IMG_20190420_161304280-2016x1512.jpg (2016x1512, 556K)

The DCAU made me interested in superheroes, anime made me interested in the more detailed manga, and /shelf/ made me much more interested in comics in general. Sorry if that sounds weird to anyone.

this kinda shit

user we are a bunch of people measuring their dicks by showing off its paper collections, weird is expected

huh, I thought I was being a pleb that got into comics from movies and cartoons. I guess I am not alone. MCU did have a large part, but so did EMH

Started as a kid, fell out of it because Clone Saga. Got back into it from a combo of reading Watchmen in high school and getting a free Marvel Unlimited trial from a can of soda around the time of the first Thor movie.

Favorite comic's probably the Sandman or Lucifer. Don't make me pick one.

I've always loved books and owning a series that I love is such a nice feeling. So yeah, why not?

>Favorite Comic
Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (Calvin and Hobbes)

Yeah, I read through a ton of ASM and Uncanny during that month, completely rekindled my love of comics. Read through a bunch of stuff I didn't care for too, but it didn't sour me on jumping back into things. Years later, and I've got more books than I have shelf space, so shit like that definitely works.

now hand her a card!

How much did all these toys cost you

Admittedly, I became a Venomfag because of the movie I thought I was going to hate. The concept of the Symbiote and how it works with its host is crazy fascinating to me. Looked into the comics and I fell even deeper into the Venom rabbit hole.

I'm getting pretty close, and I just bought a new shelf a few months ago. Hopefully I'll be buying a house this summer.

>What got you into collecting comics?
partially because of this page also partially because of the flash tv show and partially because of the Zenescope Alice in Wonderland stuff

>Borgias
is this the recent reprint or did you get it a while ago? It was expensive as fuck for a long time

Mezco costs about an arm and a leg, the DC Collectibles around $15 for Batman and $30 each for Harley and Joker (they were the expression packs).

Zenescope gets a lot of legit hate but the Alice stuff can be pretty good.

Got it on eBay earlier this year. The late comer's take was a pain, but not crazy like on Amazon.

There'll be a paperback reprint this summer.

i also like their stuff because they don't really seem to give a fuck about modern standards and still draw their female characters as slutty as possible without making it look like porn

My dad, though I think he’s always been a bit disappointed I never got that into sgt rock.

People are morons. But hey let's not dwell into a well known fact and enjoy the series, because I really enjoy it.

Ok, pic related isnt exactly recent purchases...but I just got them today. Now the age old question, where in the /shelf/ are they going to go?

I first started with MZ vs Army of darkness and really didnt stop. My favorite is Marvel Zombies 4 because I love monsters and zombies and stupid dark comedies. Not the best, I very much know, but still my favorite.

I dont care about memeing, I just love your shelf and the venom shrine.

Attached: IMG_20190519_192130.jpg (3264x2448, 317K)

Haha, I love comics too much to move on from whichever type. It's just there's too many series and not enough money. Now that I'm done with school, I can finally get a job that pays so I can buy more of the comic strips, trades, and manga I want. Haha.

NO

Gotcha, thanks!

>>What got you into collecting comics?
i collect single issues of stories i like from trade paperbacks, so my collection is mainly trades. however i do collect justice league trades and starting to collect action comics trades. my autism and ocd means i have to start to each run at volume 1 (i.e grant morrison and mark waids run on jla) and then keep going with that team or character.
>>What is your favorite comic?
favorite issue is probably either JLA #5 or #14. favorite run is probably grant morrison jla. geoff johns new 52 justice league got me into DC and superhero comics, so those books have a special place in my heart, even if they arent the best.

i do have a signed copy of the trade paperback of infinity gauntlet though that i go signed when i met starlin at raleigh supercon last year. which is neat, even though i read mostly DC. pic related.

I’m sorry but the out of place CG poster made me laugh audibly.

Nice, just picked that one up too.

Amusing enough, it's the Venom stuff that's the invasive species. That wall scroll predates me living in this house.

Watchmen AND Venom?? I couldn't resist even if I wanted to. Good thing it was a decent price.

Tell me about the Usagi peeking up from the bottom.

I love that little cabinet.

It was just a natural progression, went from He-Man, to Ninja Turtles to Marvel ( Ghost Rider!!) comics. Due to Marvel sucking for damn near 16 years, I started getting really into DC.

Batman nolan movies. Honestly at that point i was reading manga but these movied got me interested in American comics later on i pass on to indies and european. I discovered a log of good shit that was mqde in my country too.

Maybe love and rockets by Jaime or Concrete

Oi, you mean the love of my life and probably one of those sheepish reasons where "possible book money" went? I've been wanting a dollfie dream for YEARS, the second I knew they existed, I wanted one, but they're stupid expensive.
Then Volks came out with news that this girly was coming out, and man I started scratching out money. No figures, no books, no movies. The lottery opened in the States, I signed up--mildly thinking that I wouldn't win. And I got 'er.
She's a billion times better than pictures online, but probably the only one I'm going to have for a LONG time (Or at least until I save up enough to make a custom Prince Diamond *Cough*).

Though she really needs a better outfit, a nice simple Princess Serenity dress should do.
Or if you really want to go the extra mile you could try to recreate one of her casual outfits from the anime.

Fixed that for you.

Volks has released the school uniform the same time as Ami and Rei, the set even comes with two pairs of shoes (Usagi's and Ami's). So I may pick it up if I find it in a good price. She came with her classic Sailor Moon outfit, so she's covered in that area. She does have other outfit pieces that I bought for her and I'd like to get her some more, but Doll clothes can easily become a money sink. Haha.

You do. Regardless, each time you post it, I'm insanely jealous and wonder how many books I would have if I just focused all of my spending money on books vs a nendo here, a movie ticket there, a Venom thing/book there, and so fourth.

Yeah whenever I look at it I wonder how much more money I'd have if I never went down this rabbit hole of a hobby. Oh well! The saving grace is this hobby is the stuff doesn't expire so you can sell it, and often for profit.

i think it would be interesting if people posted the percentages of what they've read

For comics? like 50%. FOOP (fear of OOP) causes me to buy a lot of stuff and sit on it, as I imagine it does for others

A hundred, if we go by reread I say around 60-70% I try to buy things I know I want to read ASAP and I do, rereading is another story.

>Mostly I was curious as to why Babs was in her suit about 10 years after she'd been crippled.
I'm guessing that Legends of the DCU was a series of random stories, some set in the past?

Updated Green Arrow shelf. bought all the Grell stuff on the urging of a few posters in a shelf thread a little bit ago. Very enjoyable read. One thing I didn't expect to like so much was the coloring by Julia Lacquement.

god, I want that statue

Green Arrow and Black Canary is by far the best couple in comics and inseparable. Great statue

It was a gift and I admittedly haven't taken a long look at it.

I bought floppies

why didnt you post them?

>What got you into collecting comics?
When I was a kid we had a subscription to the weekly Donald Duck magazine. I passed all of those 4-5 years' worth of ducks to my sister's kids ages ago but it pretty naturally transitioned me into the idea of getting comics. My dad has been hoarding MAD since the 70's or so and my brother boasts a collection of Tintin, Mortimer & Blake and other European stuff, so it was something I saw around me as is.
Me, my first comic I actually went out of my way to collect was Dragon Ball. I got all 42 volumes and then one day I came home to discover mom had thrown it all away because I don't "need that kid stuff anymore".
So I've gone back to square one TWICE. But never again. I will not give up anything ever again. What's mine is mine, and mine and mine, and mine and mine, not yours, mine!
>What is your favorite comic?
I love One Piece. I love REAL. I love Starman. I will make no hierarchies between these three.

>I got all 42 volumes and then one day I came home to discover mom had thrown it all away because I don't "need that kid stuff anymore".
>because I don't "need that kid stuff anymore".
...who does this?

They're not here yet sadly

When I was a kid I would buy Scrooge and Animaniacs comics at the supermarket and old 90s comics at the drugstore and would store them in binders when I was done reading them. I've pretty much been doing it my whole life...

Favorite comic is hard to say. It might be Bone, I'm not sure.

Moms do this. She did the same to all my VHS tapes too. When you start 7th grade you're a big boy and don't need any of that anymore.

When was the second time you had to start over?

There's horror stories man. My dad had a collection of comic books and baseball cards from the 40s thru the 60s that would be valued at +5 million dollars today. Until my Grandma threw them all in the trash when he left from university. I actually cringe whenever he tells me the story. I'm talking Amazing Fantasy #15 and shit like that. Why Grandma. Imagine holding a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15? I need to stop now.

When I gave up all my duck stuff myself, didn't I say that?
In case you're confused at that time my sister had exactly one new-born kid at that time and I gave the Duck stuff away for future use.

Were they in the garage or something? I'd imagine that the collection would be in an important place.

Basement. I'd rather now take anymore questions.. it just breaks my heart to think about..

My father went and joined the marines and his mother threw out all his baseball cards from the 50s. Probably why he was a pretty bad hoarder of memorabilia over the years.

Notice how in all of these stories it's a woman throwing a man's stuff away?

/r9k/ is thataday

I can't even disagree, my mom through out my Pokemon Silver game (my first Pokemon game, given to me by a friend) because it was "Pokemon is satainic" times. Caused a lot of trust issues from then on, especially since she wasn't subtle about disliking that I was reading Calvin and Hobbes.

Okay, what's the Christian view of Calvin & Hobbes?

Dunno, I guess if there was something she would've definitely thrown them out. She REALLY wasn't happy with this comic in particular. I guess she didn't like how much Calvin was a horrible troublemaker and thought his imagination was dark (wanting to blow up his school or fire laser rays at his teacher). Weirdly enough she was totally cool with me reading Sailor Moon from the library, and that was quite a bit more questionable as far as appropriateness went for my age.

Attached: 19881127.gif (600x422, 56K)

Women don't collect comics and don't understand why they do. They don't even understand why they themselves have a shoe collection and waste all their money on clothes.

I'm always glad my parents understood collecting stuff, even if they're not the best about preserving it.
They'd always tell me to take care of my toys, they might be worth something one day.
I still have all my Megazords, though most of them are worse for the wear, but I was a fucking kid, even if I had a shelf I wasn't going to leave that shit up there.

with enthusiasm

Is anything lost in translation when they switch from English to Spanish?

no, not really, the only thing you miss out when translated (as long as its not poetry) is accents and dialects. They kinda try to make something somewhat equivalent (so, for example in Hellblazer, John does speak different than american characters, but using spanish idioms and phrases instead of british ones). It might be a dealbreaker to some people, but translating is a really complicated thing, its an art in itself.

id say my little brothers insiders guides to marvel are yeah and the comic "i luv halloween" and maybe the book that says batman novel

.

A lot of my comic stuff is kinda in a hard to reach spot at the moment but this stuff is all ok to show.

Some rare things here like the Star Wars manga original Japanese volumes (only New Hope and Phantom Menace, the best ones), the Dragon Boxes, Yo Son Goku and His Friends Return, Dragon Ball Full Color, Akira on Laserdisk

Attached: shelf1.jpg (1155x2836, 3.01M)

I don't understand, why do you have so much Dragon Ball? Surely you've got the whole story collected several times over?

How many times over have you collected Dragon Ball?
Is there anything you're aware you're missing?

Some more manga, anime and art books.

I'm hoping I can get some space freed up for my comic stuff, a lot of it is just boxed up at the moment.

Attached: shelf2.jpg (1155x2795, 2.33M)

Hey I didn’t know Grayson had an Omni

Thank you for sharing, just ordered it

Oh man, I have things not even on display.

>DBZ Orange brick season sets
>DBZ Vizbig manga
>Single manga volumes (from when I was a kid)
>DB and DBZ Arabic boxsets

I know I'm missing GT, I'll probably get the UK collection some day though I want either Dragon Box GT from Japan or the old US singles.

I just like Dragon Ball and every release is different, those 3 in 1 volumes up top I highly recommend if you've never read the series before just because they don't tack on the Z title, they use the proper volume and chapter numbers, and it's the only version with the Ask Toriyama sections at the end of the books where you get to see Akira Toriyama awkwardly answer questions from kids.

>Why is Goku cool?!
>I don't know

>I made up an attack!
>Haha, ok

>Toriyama-sensei! Hello! Goodbye!
>Thank you

>I like Goku how can I be his friend?
>Goku's not real

>Akira Toriyama awkwardly answer questions from kids.
Oda's SBS is funnier.

I bought Color Walk mostly for the Oda and Toriyama interview at the end, and again, it's so awkward.

How could a man draw an insanely popular manga and then forget everything about it?

its very very common
i bet if you asked gaiman about something from sandman hed pause and have to think hard about it

I don't get it, they should be more familiar with it than anyone else.

Not all of the authors are as autistic as we are.
I'd trust Minoru Kawakami to know every little detail about every single one of his creations, but he's a madman that churns out telephone books.

If you go through the trouble of creating something, the least you can do is remember it forever!
Mark Grunewald could do it...

its their work mate
you cant remember it all gaiman said his work is just story because thats all they are
stoires
fuck if i remembered every job ive done

I think because he's all about short stories, Dragon Ball was only going to be about 12 chapters and it ended up going over 500, just because people loved the world, the characters, the stories, he was motivated by his assistants, editors, publishers, fans, everyone wanted more.

I think in the past 10-ish years Dragon Ball came back hard, Toriyama was kind of forced to re-read his own series and so he started making up facts which are included in the Super Exciting Guide and Full Color manga, and I feel like some of those facts don't fit in that well with the actual manga but they're fun to know.

Getting my dredd shelves together. The hardbacks are from the Dredd Collection we had in he UK a few years ago. I have all 90 an plan to build a shelf specifically to fit them. So for now they're just stored anywhere I have space.

Bone got me interested in comics, but Ducks got me collecting trades. Favorite book is I Kill Giants.

Attached: shelf3.jpg (2960x1455, 1.09M)

2000ad and Major Bummer.
I use to buy 2000ad weekly when my cousin stopped buying it and giving it to me after he was finished with it. (He turned 13 and was chasing girls, I was 10) then at a carboot sale when I was 12 A guy had a whole table of comics at £1 each. I bought a few comics and Major Bummer was one. Went back next week and bought MB exclusively. Did this for a few weeks till I had them all. He was chill and because I was buying them week in week out he gave me the last couple for free. That was almost 17 years ago.

Since got rid of my MB floppies since they brought out the slactacular edition a few years ago.

Still hot my 2000ads circa 1998-2008ish in box getting ruined in my mum's attic.

> I Kill Giants.
Is this any good?

Yeah, although I went in blind many years ago, so was pleasantly surprised. Girl with issues plays D&D.

Pretty good if you like serious child drama.

I’ve shifted from shelf trades to key floppies as of late. However I want to get some deluxe Superman, Perez Wonder Woman omnis, Azzarello WW complete, and some New Super-Man/JLC

I just passed on it recently because I saw a "now a major motion picture" sticker on the book, but I see it posted here often and I wanted to know if it was decent.

Which key floppies do you have?

Nothing major, just random shit spur of the moment type stuff I’ve bought
>Spider-Woman #1 (Jessica Drew)
>Marvel Champions first appearance of Swarm
>Silk #1 (both series)
>Spider-Gwen #1 (first series)
>Action Comics first appearance of Silver Banshee
>Superior Foes #1
>Doom Patrol 1 (forget which series)
>A few early Morrison Doom Patrol issues, I think one of them was Red Jack
>Marvel Chillers 1-3
>ASM 618 villain variant of Mysterio
>New 52 Animal Man #1
Are a few

excited to finally finish reading and complete my core mignolaverse collection and be able to move on to the newer stuff.
likewise, southern bastards and outcast are some of my favorite books I have read lately. good haul, if I do say so myself.

Attached: Capture.jpg (514x809, 42K)

Does anyone in these threads have rare or expensive floppies, like more than $40?

it's fine for a single read but nothing I wanted to keep on my shelf, personally. but I imagine it would resonate pretty strongly with people who had rough early teens.

Those are literal shit.

I told you it was random

I like them, but I don't love them. Some joints feel a little loose. They don't come with stands, so it is a bit of a balancing act. The price is a little much for what they are. But the accessories are great - skull head, reptile head, fire, acid - they're awesome.

McFarlane is making MK toys too, so maybe keep an eye out for those.

Marvel Star Wars, watching cartoons and my uncle was a comic guy.
Jonah Hex

I thought marvel star wars sucked and isn't canon?

ya, when I was a kid I found the original D&D Red Box, pretty sure my dad had it. I wanted to play cause I was into fantasy stuff. Mom said no and then it disappeared the next day. Not crazy valuable like these other stories, but it would be something I would LOVE to have had.

Liked the cartoons so though "why not"

Witch Doctor

I have plenty of books that go for $300 online. Not that I want to sell them

LCS's probably already have it in stock a week early

The important thing is I'm getting it and DC can't take it away from me anymore. I won. They lost.

Is this run good? I've been wanting to get into spider-man omnis and I can't find any of the classic Ditko ones. I wanna get more invested in him.

Everything up to 508 is kino. 509 is where it goes to shit.

Something about this doesn't look official. I think it's Meg's body not being her usual. Also Werewolf Jones usually not looking short.

But considering the kinda humor MMO is it could be an official design by the creator for shits and giggles.

I wonder how Starlin's Dreadstar will work out.
Kickstarted reprints (or even IDW reprints) of old creator owned material tends to peter out.

Are top loaders a good way to store comics, or is bag and board always better?

top loader seems objectively better to me. comes down to cost

kinda wish I had people to play MTG with still...but at the same point the game has moved so far beyond my cards it would just be to expensive to 'catch up'. I collected from Revised all through to Invasion and a few sets after but my buying was going down fast after that. I only have like 1 or 2 decks that can even compete with anything current. But the decks that can hold up people just hate playing against cause they are classic blue dickishness like I turn your entire deck red and just sideboard it, or I just make you take the same 3 turns for the entire game. sorry for the /tg/ but

I had to look up what a top loader even was. What kind of out of touch casual am I?

Does anyone here own on of these things? I need to know if they're worth the price compared to a regular magazine box from BCW.

Attached: 1-cbb-short-blk_1_open.jpg (1000x1000, 83K)

i've never heard the term either, but I've seen them, so I'll count it

tbf I've only seen top loaders at conventions, and mainly just for autographs

>top loaders

Attached: 1-tlch-gol.jpg (1000x1000, 97K)

those things seem like a meme to me. much uglier than a box, especially when you can get boxes with nice designs for 10 dollars, such as pic related. the only advantage I can see to a plastic box is they're stronger so you can stack them higher.

Where can I get a custom one? I've never seen one for duck comics

I googled it. found this

I don't see anyway to actually place an order

I'm not gonna hold your hand through this my dude, figure it out. google another site if you want

Soon...e_e

Attached: venomshortbox.png (640x412, 261K)

I've been looking for months and I couldn't find an answer. There just isn't a way to get custom boxes dude.

You have friends? If you do, build a Cube and draft to get games in, no matter people's budget. Plenty of Pauper Cubes out there. I built one myself. If not, always check FNMs and see what they play. In my opinion, every format has budget options, and just getting together with others is half the fun of MtG.

Attached: WelderDoubleBlaze106.jpg (748x1044, 586K)

not a fan of just random drafting all the time though. It gets old to me, I like taking time to deck build and finding really cool combos in the stuff I have. I'm may be a little obnoxious that most of my great combos are build on commons and uncommons

Sorry user, I have a large group of friends to play kitchen table EDH and Cube. It's hard to get a group sometimes, but hope you have fun with it again so day.

I just found out that toploaders are made of PVC, which isn't archival-safe. Stick to bags and boards unless you're sending it through the mail.

I'm pretty sure they already reprinted it once.

stick a comic in a back and board and then stick it in a toploader?

They made a showcase presents for Ambush Bug???

They made a showcase presents for Ambush Bug

What is the place to start with Ambush Bug?

>Ambush Bug
Literally never head of this Marvel character

Anything before 1990. That's where the masterworks are.

What's the point, the toploader isn't going to do anything for your comic the bag and board don't already do

They're more of a baseball card or trading card thing.

Are you planning on displaying them or just storing them? Considering most people just use a bag and board it's overkill. If you want to display something there are more archivally-safe ways of doing that.

i would just be using them to store but i only buy HC stuff so it's probably more different for me than everyone else

>They made a showcase presents for Ambush Bug???
Yes.

Attached: 58737377_339309523268389_8377625334832431104_n.jpg (4032x2268, 991K)

>Are you planning on displaying them or just storing them?
I want to display a golden age Uncle Scrooge comic by Carl Barks. I have about 100-150 issues all ranging from golden age to current, obviously not all of them are by Barks but most are still Duck comics. I figured bags and boards would suffice for most of them, but I don't know what to do about the golden age comics.

It's just the objective truth, JMS' Spider-Man run was marred by editorial mandates and events fucking it right over.

bump

BCW sells Golden Age-sized frames for ~$60. I'm sure there are other options, but it looks like most manufacturers don't offer their full range of display products in Golden Age sizes, which are larger than later comics and wouldn't fit in storage designed for those.

I'm really out of my depth here, but if you're lucky enough to live somewhere with higher-end nice and professional comic book shops I'd go and ask there.

Senility is a hell of a thing.

It was actually shipped in a form fitting package, not a loose box. I was surprised.

high-end comic book shops? What?

i really find magneto to be an interesting character, but have to read anything involving him and/or the xmen, im thinking about picking up god loves, man kills or magneto: testament.

which one should i get? or should i get both? also, magneto rec list, i guess

Attached: magneto.jpg (338x626, 74K)

God Loves, Man Kills is totally one of the best X-Men stories out there, I would say it is better than Dark Pheonix. I would say go with that, but it's less Magneto focused that maybe you want.

i figure i cant go wrong with claremont.
>dark phoenix
i dont know anything about the xmen history/continuity so im staying away from it

then yes, God Loves, Man Kills it was initially outside continuity cause of the adult nature of it. But when people loved it so much it was made canon. So yeah, I would go with that if you don't want too much bogged down continuity

thanks ill pick it up

Yeah, if you're going to own a single X-Men volume it should be that

here, it looks like BagsUnlimited sells archival-grade display frames that block UV rays and have a buffered backing, going for ~$30. Those should be better for sticking something on your wall for an indefinite period of time.

As for floppies, I have the ones not on display all in this 4 drawer tall legal-sized filing cabinet. These are all of my odds and ends. Some of the themes that I collect (Space Ghost, Archie, Cloak and Dagger etc) are in the 2nd drawer.
Third drawer is for things I'm going to eventually sell
4th drawer is school textbooks and video games

I was waiting for IST to update, Fullmetal HC vol 5 and the Stokoe art book are supposed to be out this week. Anyone heard different?

That's because Cho is a bad artist

You’re in the wrong thread

isn't listed on comiclist weekly so it probably got delayed

I'm not sure about that Green Goblin, but the rest seems fine.
If it was some expensive variant I'd not go for it but if it's the default cover that's fine.

Okay faggot

no

>Marvel reprints omnis (something they almost never do outside of big names like FF, UXM, ASM)
>create a new omni of acclaimed run Peter David's Hulk
>"Who cares?"
Yeah, you're in the wrong thread.

Why is it so shocking? Marvel reprints literally everything.
They're not going out of business like DC

They almost never reprint omnis, how fucking new are you to this hobby?

>Peter David's Hulk
I've heard exactly zero people in these threads talk about this

There were people talking about the run literally in the thread before this one. Fucking newfags man..

source?

I'm not doing your work for you. Go to the archive, find the thread from immediately before this one (it hit bump limit), and control+F Hulk.

...

Well, these aren't from the shelf thread but they still all say that the run sucks and doesn't matter. So, I guess thanks for proving my point

Haha wow. You just can't admit you were can you? That IS the /shelf/ thread and by the end that person says he changed his mind and he DOES like it. Fuck off, troll.

If someone is clearly being an idiot, don't respond.

Gotta keep the thread bumped doe

Eurofag here. Genuine question, are you black? I remember first seeing the two in an issue of Maximum Carnage in 2001 and really loving the concept of Cloak and Dagger but immediately wondering what black people thought of Cloak as a character.

>Eurofag here. Genuine question, are you black?
kek

>Midori Days manga

Good taste user. I picked up the set in high school and couldn't figure out why volume 3 in particular was so hard to find at a decent price.

Someone rate the non Spidey, Jojo, and Dragon Ball shelves because I never see anyone respond to them. Want to know thoughts on these shelves.

Friggin love Midori Days! It's one of my top 5 manga series of all time, which sucks because it's so underappreciated and only got a meh-okay anime.

Attached: 1557039916431.jpg (680x447, 26K)

Kirby FF only gets better.

I need more space.

Attached: Shelf 1 Resized.jpg (1772x5000, 3.8M)

Where's Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, user?

I've got a few on my second shelf too but most are in that first picture.

Attached: Shelf 2 Resized.jpg (4375x5000, 3.9M)

I've never read any of Toriyama's stuff outside of Dragon Ball, is it good?

I'm so jealous, user.

>arrow dawn of the dead
user i hate you

Love Arrow, I've got a ton of their box sets too but no space on the shelves for them.

You laughed at me, you mocked me. "oh DC will cancel the collections" "Oh DC doesn't care about finishing a series" "oh it's too obscure to get fully collected'

WHO'S LAUGHING NOW

Suicide Squad fully in trades. It feels so good

Attached: skawd - Copy.jpg (530x810, 227K)

Just buy another shelf

I don't see Harley in this, so Hard Pass.

I've got no space left to put one. All my walls are taken up.

Planning to buy a house this time next year and will be dedicating an entire room to shelving, without question.

So now that's 1 out of god, how many fucking series actually done.
Two if you count Grell's GA (which is just missing the annuals and the Shado miniseries)
>four years to finish all SS, and they skipped all of 2018

Sell some books then

It's real good. It's like a prequel set in the Dragon World too. It's where DB Minus comes from.

Is this as good as the movie?

if you wait patiently you can get these on sale for £20-40 for the blu-rays, they hold 24 per shelf and 210 per tower
argos.co.uk/product/3955901

Shelves aren't the problem, it's wall space. I don't have any free walls to put a shelf against.

It's a temporary problem, I've moved back in with my parents so I can live rent free for a year and save a deposit to buy a house rather than pissing away cash on rent forever. I can handle half my wardrobe being given over to blu-rays and a half my floor being covered in boxes of them if I know it's only temporary.

>have to move back with parents
>have to cull collection to fit new wallspace
>but want a room to be a library
I can't imagine starting over again like that. I don't even know which books I would get first.

Who are some characters you've get to "get into." You may have already read some of their stuff and it just wasn't for you. Basically a character that doesn't have much or any presence on your shelf.

For me, it's the Punisher

you've yet*

For me, it's almost every marvel character

wonder woman, her stuff with the JL is perfectly fine but her stand alone stuff bores me to death

Superheroes not your thing?

Legion of Superheroes, I'm just too lazy to start

I didn't say that. I actually quite like DC, but I've never got into Marvel so much. I read spider-man, hulk, FF, old man logan, captain america, iron man, ms marvel and the like but I just like the DC heroes more and I know them better from the cartoons. Maybe I just need to look for more obscure titles like Werewolf by Night, but I don't like the majority of it so far.

Have you read the classics, like Miller Daredevil and Simonson Thor?

Marvelmasterworks dc forum is reporting three pages missing from the second-to-last issue
Lol

I haven't started over, I still have all my stuff, it's just not all on my shelves. Got 3 big 80L plastic containers with a load in at the bottom of my bed, and the top of my wardrobe is stacked to the ceiling too.

Calculated decision. I live like this for a year so I can buy a house and pay c£400-£500 per month on a mortgage rather than continuing to pay £725 per month on my flat which left me hardly any room to save. I'd saved c£10k over 5 years but I'll more than double that after a year at home, and that'll be plenty for a deposit. Putting up with my collection being a mess for a while is worth it.

It's all blu-rays and games anyway, all my comics are in the pictures.

I haven't read Thor, but I thought Miller Daredevil was decent. I like magic and campy horror stories the most, but Marvel has the whole "it's not really magic, just advanced science" that made me avoid any cosmic stuff

>"it's not really magic, just advanced science"
I don't know where this is coming from. Maybe the movies? In all the issues of Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider I've read I've never seen this assertion.

>"it's not really magic, just advanced science"
Yeah, they state that outright in the "magic is the source code of life" speech in Dr. Strange

The MCU tries to paint magic as just advanced science due to Disney being paranoid about the movies getting refused released in China by the CCP censorshop board.

Why is DC so bad at this shit

Retarded company knows that its even more retarded fans will buy it

What's the best way to sell tpb's a lot of the trades I was collecting are either getting a hard cover edition or are getting collected in omnibus editions with extra stuff added.

ebay. amazon

quickest way is to just go by your lcs

What are some marvel classics that don't involve any of the Avengers?

Savage Sword of Conan

All of Marvel 70's horror, go read it now

>Batman
>Superman
>Spider-Man

I really don't care for A-Listers except for X-Men, even then I don't care for Wolverine

Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme

Is Kate Leath a good writer?

Can you explain? That's a little vague.

I have an OG Miracleman 15, idk how rare it is anymore since the reprints though

Attached: 1554905976814.jpg (750x745, 101K)

she's funny

BPRD hell on earth came in, and so did Baltimore vol 8, now it's time to finish the Baltimore series, I heard it ends pretty meh

Batman. Most stuff I read was shit. So generally I'm avoiding it.

Marvel Horror books from the 70s are nearly universally considered top-tier books.
Werewolf By Night, Tomb of Dracula, and Man-Thing are the three big essential titles.

Obviously meant for

Big 2 comics, pretty much the only one I'm diving into is Venom and ASM that pertains to Venom.

It's not exactly that. I deeply enjoy The Spirit, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen. What I don't like is the weird premise of a fluid continuity with things such as retcons, attempts to maintain the status quo, and writers infighting because the character doesn't "belong" to anyone--it belongs to the company--so their interpretation could be argued as "just as correct" as the actual creators.

I'm having that issue well enough with Venom alone and the crapshow that Cates is spitting out. It just further dissuades me from the genre. I'd rather read a series by an author that ends up falling flat, rather than someone's fanfiction demanding that their headcanons be rung true--regardless how much they contradict the creator(s) established lore/development.

So for now, I'm just sticking with older works or runs that stick to the actual themes set up.

Outside of that, I'm pretty open to picking up any comic that seems even mildly interesting. They're generally quick reads and I may find my next favorite comic that way.

>what got you into comics
Pleb alert here: the MCU.
Specifically, the post-credits scenes of Iron Man and TIH. My friend told me about how Nick Fury was assembling the Avengers and all that, so I downloaded a shitload of comics, starting with the Ultimate Universe because I read that's what the MCU (which wasn't even called that at the time) was based on.
Then I read through a bunch of other Marvel, did the whole Batman thing for a while, started digging into Vertigo and Image, and well... here we are 10 years later.

>What is your favorite comic?
Daytripper.

But that question is pretty wide reaching, so I'll split it up a bit:
>Marvel
Squadron Supreme, Marvels, Ultimates 1&2, or Hickman's F4... guess I can't narrow it down
>DC
Probably still Year One, though I haven't read a ton of DC.
>Non Big 2 capeshit
Zot
>Current creator-owned series
East of West
>Finished creator-owned series
Y: The Last Man
>Manga
Planetes
>single-volume story
Since I already said Daytripper... Blankets
>Obscure shit
Killing and Dying by Adrien Tomine
>Non-fiction
My Friend Dahmer
>Daily strip
Foxtrot
>Guilty pleasure
Fucking Star Wars comics. I can't help myself.

Any of those could change on a day to day basis.

r8 my tastes, /shelf/

Are you trying to hide Saga from us? Why does everyone suddenly hate that book?

as far as I can tell, most on Yea Forums only liked the first couple arcs or never liked it at all. I read the first 3 trades and that was kinda enough for me.

I always hated it

>got into comics because of MCU
Sounds shit to me

Congrats

DC needs to get a clue. There's so much shit they should be making omnis out of, but instead we get new garbage.

Huh, never heard of these. I'll try them out.

Yeah, because we all were such comic experts before we started reading. What's wrong with someone getting into the comics because of the movies?

I was never into it. Didn't hate it, just had other things I'd rather be reading.

Because it means you want or expect more crap that's just like the movie version instead of the well-written comics. It's like people who pick up Infinity Gauntlet, but just find out later that it's 90% techno-babble and the snap scene never happens.

This makes me happy.

>Infinity Gauntlet
sorry, meant Infinity War tpb

based

I've been waiting for all of these forever.

>is it good?
It's Toriyama and it focuses on Bulma's sluttier older sister IN SPACE.

>this much projection
Alternatively, you could learn to read and realize that none of my favorite comics are anything like the MCU. The only one remotely related is Ultimates, but when I first read that Captain America hadn't even been in a movie yet.
Everyone starts somewhere. I'm sorry that I wasn't into Moebius from day 1.

>Because it means you want or expect more crap that's just like the movie version instead of the well-written comics.
That's a lot of assumptions. You having a bad day, sport?

DC wins again, baby. Fuck the fans!

it was a pretty big reason for me too. And there's probably even more that got into them from the cartoons. What's the problem?
most people aren't brainlets and understand that they are two very different things

AT&T has heard your demands and has now cancelled the Animal Man by Lemire Omnibus and the Bronze Age Doom Patrol

>never heard of these
Start with Man-Thing. Steve Gerber is a top-tier writer.

what is with these assholes? you never know what announcement is real and will come out on that day

Good. Maybe we'll get that Byrne Man of Steel omnibus that literally everyone wants instead of Wonder Woman by Gail Simone.

>so I downloaded a shitload of comics
> starting with the Ultimate Universe because I read that's what the MCU (which wasn't even called that at the time) was based on.

Good job, you read another sentence. Now keep reading the post user. I'm sure you can do it.

>And there's probably even more that got into them from the cartoons.
Who the fuck would watch a cartoon based on a fucking comic property? I can't imagine any being remotely palatable

you hunting sharks with that bait?

Attached: bait.jpg (1041x1267, 460K)

>someone started with plebtier cape shit
Where's the problem in this? What was your first comic?

What's Giant Days like?

Attached: 1917681.jpg (400x522, 83K)

>can't even think of his own comic
>has to use the artist mentioned earlier in the conversation
Good job, user. bait/10

scott pilgrim but more girly

I can't find that post

What's Scott Pilgrim like?

It's kind of like Giant Days, but more masculine

I see, so it's like that.

>can't admit he's wrong

Attached: 1547068884045.jpg (480x480, 39K)

It's about a mid-00's canadian hipster that finally finds a girl with as many problems as he has.

>wrong
what exactly am I wrong about, user?

scott pilgrim is ultra entry-level comics. do read that shit

read your fucking posts

A person can be wrong for wanting to read comics after watching something based on a comics series?
It's like a fan of books calling someone shit for reading The Hobbit because they enjoy the animated movie.

Fucking secondaries stay away from my hobby, you don't get it cuz you're dumb

have sex

Well /shelf/ I see we are riding to our impending doom. Any questions on the mexican reprints I often post? I havent answered any lately.

Attached: Shelf 01 Jan 2019.jpg (1632x1224, 658K)

>being elitist about picture books

That's because I made it up.
This thread is archiving and now NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW

>Any questions on the mexican reprints I often post? I havent answered any lately.
I have a question: so how bout the Knicks?

Yeah, my post says I started with the UU and then branched out. Again - what's the problem?

Why not read them in english instead? Isn't it cheaper to get the english version

Im a Lakers poser since the 90's so wouldnt know.

I just checked, and geez, 500+ already.

Not often. Unless they are not getting a mexican reprint, which is often for specific stuff, is like half the price of the respective english release. with the caviat of dogdy translations but I dont really mind that much. As you can see I do have tons of english ones too, like the two absolutes or the Loki stuff.

I got some of those for half the price.

Attached: Shelf 04 Jan 2019.jpg (3264x1224, 1M)

all that waifu posting! Geez!

Attached: wanda1.png (472x600, 371K)

Oh you meant the post count, yeah. That's why I asked, might as well ride high till the end.

This is the end
My only friend
The end

>Dodgy translations
How dodgy? Does it really stops people from buying them?

So, is suicide squad 8 fucked or not?

Not really, but for example they just released a HC for the first Morrison Doom Patrol tp, which is fine, but I think that the series is very dependant on wordplay at times. Of course people that want the story might not know or care about the english wordplay. I do and Im getting the 3 trades instead.

Have you ever found an old comic that did name localization?
You know, like how 90s/older manga would make names like Jounoichi to Joey for English.

I also worry about this.

Besides the classic: Bruce Wayne = Bruno Díaz and Richard Grayson = Ricardo Tapia? (That are subproduct of the translation job of the Adam West Batman series) Not really.

>Batman's name is Bruno Diaz
Holy fuck how did I not know that? That's awesome.
Does everyone in Mexico call Batman Bruno Diaz? Was it that way in the movie dubs as well?

Well the latest example of a localized name was Hope Summers, for some reason they went with Esperanza Summers which was just funny

I recall we did until Batman Begins, but Im might be mistaken, then when Televisa Editorial started to publish the n52 stuff, they just called him Wayne.

You're going to be reading a reprint of a DC comic.
Even if the printing is all proper and in the right order, you're still reading a shit product.

Why are you like this?
