You are talking about Adult Dirk from B1. Which was basically background character whose personality is mostly established indirectly. Furthermore, it was established from the very start that he was not treating Dave in the most apt way possible. You have no valid reason to complain that he actually damaged Dave. It was pretty much established from the beginning.
B2 Dirk, on the other hand, an actually well developed character who turn out to be a great person, if only having a too messed up way of thinking for his own good. He turns out to be a good friend and actually be the Brother Dave needed. It is a good character with an overall good conclusion, if you are a fan of him, you can't realluy complain how he was handled.
And I think the most egregiously stupid justification I have seen to complain about how B1 dirk's character was handled was how
"Dirk abusing Dave in B1 was just a joke and shouldn't have been taken seriously"

I haven't payed attention to Homestuck after the Act 7 flash came out, someone give me a quick rundown of what's conspired since in these epilogues I keep hearing about.

btw I was reading Hussie's notes and one thing he says is that the bigger the villain, the higher he is in the meta bullshit: Jack is mainly a character, though he had the fourth wall, Scratch hijack the story and Caliborn actually takes the place of the author for a time.
In this respect, by becoming a villain, it's logical that Dirk is even higher on this ladder, by becoming the narrator. For the question of why he became a villain, I agree with

It's funny, I was rereading some old parts and realized this shit was 5-8 years old and conversations and prophecies back then seem so insignificant now. The Green Sun, the Jacks, going godtier/grimdark, it all feels completely irrelevant now. And yet art the same time I can see the characterizations presented in the epilogues slowly begin to assert themselves as they shape the characters. Reading Terezi's story with the knowledge that she's putting on a mask of rivalry and coolness but actually feels insecure, kindhearted, and wants to be honest puts things in perspective. I can see John acquire determination and purpose in his role within the game, and see how his POV character job shaped his personality, and how deep his dad's death cut into him, never really recovering from it, framing his own realization of his meaningless existence. I can see how Rose's prophetic story of twelve well-meaning children attaining too much knowledge and finding themselves corrupted into insanity, doomed to never be happy without naive ignorance came to pass. And it makes me appreciate Act 7 more, knowing that the epilogues are the other half of that arc, and the transition into the new story.
The more I reflect on it the more I find myself liking the epilogues. Now I just gotta learn how to draw to express that.

At the very least, sburb was also played by SanctuaryRemix, winnie the poop 2, and ChaosDemon. Whether anyone else actually won besides the four kids is unclear. Probably not.

this is a really good post, especially the part about ignoring in-fandom refutations. there was SO MUCH arguing in HS fandom and while 90% of it was typical fandom slapfighting, it also produced really insightful discussion & fanworks the likes of which I haven't seen in any other fandom.
I guess it makes sense when you consider that the epilogue writers were Hussie, a BNF who bailed on HS in 2012, and a HSG regular. They were written by a group of people who either hated the fandom or were painfully out of touch with what had become of when it ended in 2016 let alone the changes that came after.
Honestly? Yeah. Most of HS stopped being satisfying for me halfway through Act 6 so now Strider angst is the only that revs my engine.
