>Monsta X makes yet another mark as they become the first Korean act to guest star on Cartoon Network’s We Bare Bears. Billboard is premiering a first-look clip from the upcoming episode of the Emmy-nominated show today (May 16).
>In the episode, titled “Panda’s Birthday,” Panda (voiced by Bobby Moynihan), is a huge fan of Monsta X and gets the surprise of a lifetime thanks to his thoughtful Bear Bros. Grizz (voiced by Eric Edelstein) and Ice Bear (Demetri Martin) mastermind a scheme to help Panda meet his favorite K-pop band on his birthday.
If it weren't for T-Pain having a guest appearance this season, I'd say WBB is officially a Korean show.
>First Korean act to guest star on Cartoon Network’s We Bare Bears What an accomplishment
Angel Parker
This show sucks so hard. Only normies like it, the only good episodes were the ones with the bigfoot guy or the little girl, and they barely are in it.
Benjamin King
can't wait for the porn
Cooper Rogers
Is that a man(male) with a choker? It's so aggressively inoffensive I can't even imagine someone getting worked up about it.
Dylan Perez
>The Koreans actually look different from each in this style WTF
>Is that a man(male) with a choker? It's called being a Korean male youtu.be/J9dQ8T2VQEo
Josiah Bell
That entrance was so cringy. Other than that I'm kinda interested to see what all happens this episode.
Brayden Hill
I'm surprised it's not BTS. There the most popular K-Pop group.
Jonathan Williams
Why exactly did K-pop blow up after a full decade of J-pop dominating when they're basically the same fucking thing anyway
Jacob Sullivan
Its more news for the k-pop group. Some asian american sticking his favorite k pop band into his cartoon isn’t news for the show or cartoons in general.
Jeremiah Butler
Good question. I'm not a fan of either, but based on what little I've heard, Kpop has more overt American hip hop influences. Jpop has become its own weird inbred genre of very fast beats, squeaky voices, and elementary school dancers that lack the energy and snap of their Kpop counterparts.
I guess the Koreans have more to prove and want it more.
Mason Russell
Koreans really like being pandered to huh, unlike the Japanese they just ignore western pandering.
Alexander Gutierrez
Yeah it's weird. I don't know what media agencies are involved but they're on day time tv and they make entertainment news.
Levi Mitchell
Jpop has shitloads of American hip hop influences too, hell almost every Jpop act when it was at its height had either a hip hop interlude or full hip hop songs. Maybe it really is just the Koreans playing their hand better.
David Lopez
>every antagonist is non-white How is this bad in the current age of white guilt?
Zachary Walker
Sure, I'll believe you. I only encounter Jpop while watching the rare anime, so I'm not familiar with the full scope of it.
On the other hand I've come across Kpop because I was impressed by the ladies and their dancing. Their sound and looks feel more contemporary.
Colton Cooper
This is the gayest thing I've ever seen.
David Adams
I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying that's not inoffensive.
Samuel Garcia
So they basically know their audience consists of nothing but little girls and womanchildren?
Sebastian Turner
I know guys like you just hate stuff on principle, but really? wbb? really?
>some peopa call me a pora beah >... okay That's pretty funny.
Landon Williams
I don't think Jpop even had a presence in the overseas market. Most knowledge of it came from being tied to anime. At least Jpop never had the presence that Kpop had on overseas market.
Xavier Clark
well it is a boyband
John Peterson
Yeah what was with the animation on that entrance? Rotoscope?
Christopher James
Might have been. Maybe it's an excerpt from one of their dance routines?
Ayden Cox
Better dancing and bigger production value on music videos.
Brayden Lopez
I love that We Bare Bears is finding success in Korea and Japan.
Ayden Green
I for one am glad that WBB is promoting exploitative, extremely hostile industries like K-pop.
Blake Robinson
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Jace Mitchell
Asia sure fucking loves this show. Like I knew it was popular over there but god damn.
Jaxon Evans
I liked the first couple episodes a lot but after like the sad burrito episode everything felt mediocre
Isaiah Mitchell
It better. There's some bad ones pepper in there, but this season has been pretty good.
It's their TTG.
Brandon Scott
What happens in kpop?
Grayson Rivera
>g-grorious nippon is better! I don't give a shit about kpop or kpop but wow S E E T H I N G
Ian Sullivan
Yeah it's not just the show, it's the merchandise. It's like Hello Kitty.
Well the bears have such simple designs that they could be placed on anything/made into anything just like Hello Kitty. CN must be happy that they've find another goldmine show like this.
youtube? easier to get noticed by fans around the world
Hudson Martin
Fuck off rick, the show is a snooze fest. Had a handful of good episodes but it's lost its potential.
Samuel Smith
I know this show is still on the air solely because Korean and Japanese girls love it, but it's still horrible
Evan Martinez
Kpop company's have no problems uploading their MV's to youtube. Jpop company's only post a snippet and remove all full MV uploads. Jpop company's don't care about anyone outside of Japan.
Dominic Hall
It feels like this show gets a lot of hate here because there's a disdain for millenial life especially through the "calarts" lense where the slice of life pacing leaves little room for enough humor to satisfy most viewers and the cast doesn't even have waifus. It's a perfect storm to turn off your average Yea Forumsmrade.
Oliver Thomas
Ice bear is literally the whitest white can be
Carter Scott
It could also be that it's fucking boring, not funny, and drier than a ricecake?
Juan Morgan
So which of these guys will turn out to be involved in a huge underage prostitution ring and unceremoniously fired from the group?
Lucas Ortiz
Or maybe the slice of life pacing leaves little room for enough humor to satisfy most viewers.
Thomas Scott
I have seen many slice of life shows that were perfectly capable of being funny. Clarence was SOL and it was funny. Mitsudomoe was SOL and fucking hilarious.
WBB just sucks.
Logan Kelly
Literally who
Sebastian Mitchell
bitch Gorillaz was in last week's episode. bootleg Gorillaz at least
also yes WBB is extremely popular in Asia, not just East Asia but Asia in general. there's a shop that sells every kind of WBB merch that you can imagine, from plushie to a goddamn towel rack
I thought the same. Clearly a parody of themselves, but also completely themselves.
Landon Scott
I wonder if you realize how far from the target audience you are.
Gabriel Parker
Jpop bands didn't have as much teenbop marketing I mean kpop groups really liked to sell you on who's who and resembled more of 90s boy band and pop group icons in marketing
Jpop never seemed to find much interest in doing that and was more like late 90s corporate rock in it's marketing
Alexander Bell
nug-kuY kugnimnaheaD ehT nioJ
Aaron Hernandez
japanese artists and groups tend to be more insular because with their larger market and population there's less need to venture outside of japan to make a buck. so they gatekeep a lot of their content and keep it that way
Kayden Reed
I love how all these hype generating click baiters come up with the most specific and particular "accomplishments" to sell their shit like any of it means anything.
Luke Roberts
It's the hair
Caleb Myers
any figma? pic related doesn't count, they're figurines.
And yet many of them have to learn japanese anyway when singing in Japan. That shows how irrelevant gookian is.
Aiden Scott
I'm pretty surprised they didn't pick BTS.
Austin Reyes
nah, they sell knockoff lego of WBB and WBB trucks though
Nathan Baker
Or what happens when you give the Korean studios who do these shows say.
JM/Mir is the most famous in this field but Akom (It was Nelson Shin's idea) also did a Transformers couch gag for The Simpsons because "Before we did The Simpsons we did Transformers".
>Do men even like kpop? As far as I know they aren't even fans of krap. Yeah but they're usually fans of girl groups of course although the guy from your video's group have plenty of casual fanboys too.
Aaron Ward
The Pepsi of k-pop. And Pepsi is the Monsta X of pop.
Dylan Rodriguez
What's the story behind that file name?
Eli Mitchell
No, because WBB doesnt deserve it
Jordan Lopez
nobody asked
Leo Carter
More like they’re the next K-Pop boyband to replace BTS once some BTS members start their mandatory military service.
Luke Thomas
>be me >every fucking girl at college its obssesed with BTS >yourcomment.html >mfw one of these Chinese Justin Biebers will have ballsex by bullies, meaning that i can finally say "BTS is full of gay shit" without consecuences
At first I thought that this cartoon has such hot guys and I never knew about it
Aiden Smith
I see the show's on its way of becoming a Korean Simpsons.
>he doesn't know about Adam Lambert
>Panda falling as soon as he gets up Kek, that trope never gets old.
Brandon Nelson
That's pretty cool. Is it because of the Korean representation?
Matthew Watson
You ever watch perfect blue?
Carter Morris
Isn't that Japanese idol culture?
Jason Sanchez
I would love a WBB and Sanrio crossover.
Oliver Lopez
You don't seem to know how this works. Or maybe you do? Tell us more about your prostitute-turned-pimp days, user.
Thomas Perry
Yes. They have giant girl groups that have a ton of male fans.
Brayden Rivera
Do you think it's because it's a more chill cartoon or is it because of the marketing and merch they sell?
Ethan Brooks
Tbh I despise how much Korean culture is seriously starting to eclipse Japan and even some aspects of the US. Their going through their capitalist honeymoon phase and they have an extremely strong economy to have even stronger arts industries. I feel like generations will have a new divide soon: older generations will have enjoyed Japanese culture and shows, while younger ones not yet in their 20's will have gone for Korean stuff. Tbh it makes me feel really old and I'm only 26.
William Lewis
does korea have any good cartoons
Elijah Myers
Oh boy, I can’t wait for the three way culture war that will make me want to die.
Nicholas Green
Gen X: Transformers is the best and our comics remain legends today.
Millenials: Accepting our anime overlords is the best course of action. AT and RS is the best we can do now.
Zoomers: Ugh zombie WBB started season 10.
Josiah Mitchell
Japs are all over it
Samuel Perry
J-pop, like pretty much anything Japan produces, is make exclusively with Japan in mind. Basically it's a situation where if the overseas like it, that's cool but until recently they couldn't profit with it. It has always been the westerners looking for Japan, Colon thought he arrived to Japan when he discover America.
K-pop is a complete different story. Korea has always been dominated in every sense of the word by a foreign power, either China, Japan and now America. Their culture is built around following the trend, like the massive conversions to Christianity after the Korean war. Meanwhile nips are insolationists, they feel proud of their uniqueness. Koreans wanted to be known for something besides the Kim dinasty in the north and the masses need some control after the protests in the late 80's. K-pop was funded by the government, the record companies hired Swedish composers in the early 2000s that worked with Britney Spears and NSYNC to teach the Koreans how to appeal to the west and spent millions in international lobbys; and they never stopped until now. BTS didn't just happen, it was an effort of decades only for gaining America's recognition and making foreigners to visit Korea. No one wanted to go to Korea before the K-pop explosion, except for getting mail brides or filming low-budget martial art flicks
>Meanwhile nips are insolationists, they feel proud of their uniqueness. Ironic considering that they're collectivist conformists.
Eli Smith
Lol, korea has no real culture you bugman. Go back and drink your poop wine
Aaron Gutierrez
it's the same. i remember a story where a K-Pop fan somehow snuck into her idol's bedroom, took a photo, and bragged about how she kissed him in his sleep
Hudson Reyes
>season wrapped up >impending hiatus >full celebrity voice cast The english dub might end while the Korean dub continues.
They aren't the same thing. They sound very different, and Kpop appeals much better to Americans. They're also aesthetically different, with Kpop emphasizing perfect, sexy, mature women, and Jpop emphasizing cute girls. The former appeals way more to Americans.
People really overstate the idea the Japanese are highly collectivist while Americans/Westerners are highly individualistic. When it comes to media it's actually completely the opposite.
Carter Allen
I could see that, especially their comics and cartoons that cover so much more than western media. I'm still surprised there is a market for 50 episodes of Polar Bear's Cafe.
