Do you think the MCU will ever pull off another "GotG"? That is, turn D-list characters into extremely popular household names?
Do you think the MCU will ever pull off another "GotG"? That is...
Do you think they did it with Captain Marvel?
I don't.
Yes they've done it several times and will do it again with Eternals and Shang-Chi and whoever the fuck else they want to
Because Carol was already B-list, yeah
They'll do it with Eternals
I don't consider Carol to be D-list in the comics, but despite the movie being a financial success, I don't think she's nearly as popular as the GotG. There's nothing to her originally, and they didn't add anything to her in the movies like they did to GotG. No one talks about her, there's no memes, no cultural influence, no one seemingly cares, no memorable moments or music etc.
I'd like to see them do that with Agents of Atlas, but normies might think it was too similar to GOTG.
>Seething so hard you have to lie this brazenly
Sad
They did it with Avengers, then GOTG.
Eternals will be next.
Avatar made 2 billion and that's not a household name.
Those designs...kino
>movie in between IW and EG, the culmination of a decade of the MCU and hyped up to be important to the movie made a lot of money
Shocking
Went shopping at a grocery store last evening and noticed a little girl carrying a Rocket Raccoon doll. Ten years ago, people didn't even know who the fuck he was when he showed up in MvC3, if they can turn Rocket into a household name, they can do the same with Shang Chi and the Eternals.
Wasn’t Ant Man & the Wasp also released between IW and EG? And that one has far more impact on the story.
It does but no one knew that at the time. Meanwhile Captain Marvel was the post credit scene for IW
I dont know, a cute little raccoon is always gonna have more pull with young children than a martial arts guy.
They are desperate for rationalizations
This is the correct answer. If done well Atlas could be huge like Guardians
Ants 2 also came out not long after IW when it was still fresh.
Carol's movie was months later when people were starting to get antsy for more Avengers stuff.
I'm not a woman hater, I genuinely wish she was more interesting, but they keep insisting on this blank featureless interpretation because that's the only way to write strong female characters apparently. It's not even that bad on its own but it really feels blank contrasted with the extremely colorful rest of the MCU. I'd like her better if she was more like All Might instead of Superman.
People don’t seem to care about quality, only about seeming woke. I have a friend who bragged about never seeing a marvel movie but went to see black panther and captain marvel in the theater
Anyone else hoping Marvel uses the potential multiverse plotline to just combine all Marvel based movies since X-men? I'd personally love a Spiderverse type of movie where Holland teams up with Toby and maybe Garfield.
You know, since GOTG3 is probably going to be the last one, deliberately spinning AOA as a spiritual successor might work. The thing is, you would probably have to do it as a period piece (use What If? #9 as a template), make it clear that Jimmy Woo is the grandfather of the Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man & The Wasp, and have Wakanda reconcile with the rest of the world to get Derek Kanata in the sequel. It could work, and since we're getting a Shang-Chi movie and there is some hesitation about using Fu Manchu (after IM3's Mandarin debacle), they could use a toned-down Yellow Claw (call him Tzing Jao or something and make him sympathetic) for both.
There's a current all-Asian Agents of Atlas book which kind of misses the whole point of the series, I'm worried a movie would take too much of it's template from that.
Still, with good writing and casting, they'd probably fit the MCU format better than most.
isn't this exactly what they are trying with Eternals?
They should surprise everyone and make a Darkhawk movie
I think he'd be a good supporting character in Nova.
>household names
"Movie made a lot of money" doesn't not equal household name.
yes it is, everyone knows about the blue ferngully movie.
Regular Darkhawk would probably never show up. But Rich's younger brother leading the crazy Shi'Ar idiot brigade mook Raptors just might
>keep insisting on
one movie and maybe five minutes of scenes in another movie? she's in the same place black widow was before avengers where she exists to be cute female.
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
She had a whole movie to herself, comparing her to BW is just bullshit
>Cute female
>Cute
>Female
What???????
Yes
Of course. They should attempt Secret Empire and have it win a Best Picture Oscar for being so Woke.
I bet they can do a good adaptation of Americops and Kobik by making the latter a socjus type who did nothing wrong
Even Iron Man was someone almost no normie had heard of before the first movie.
>No one talks about her, there's no memes, no cultural influence, no one seemingly cares, no memorable moments or music etc.
I see talks of it all the time, and her soundtrack is one of the most memorable of the whole MCU in fact. The problem is, you don't ever leave Yea Forums, where the mere mention of her sends people into seething.
She does have plenty of fanart and followers, but posting about it here makes people think there's shilling and "carolfags" so there's no winning here.
Also this
Idk, what C-tier teams do they have left? Ethernals seems to have a good cast but Ant man and the Wasp also had a great cast and didn't go great, Agents of Atlas could work, also Excalibur and Annihilators, Alpha Flight Inhumans or Starjammers would be harder ....
>Hercules
Just do it
Quiet you shilling Carolfag.
They just acquired the rights to the X-Men didn't they.
Now that the MCU is on its all time high popularity? Of course, lets see how Eternals goes.
>But Rich's younger brother leading the crazy Shi'Ar idiot brigade mook Raptors just might
They could use that to set up Darkhawk and the real Raptors then.
>her soundtrack is one of the most memorable of the whole MCU in fact
Not really, that goes to Winter Soldier.
Ask any child about Groot or Rocket or Star-Lord.
I said "one of the most", not THE most. Her theme is very catchy and you can hear it a lot throughout the most epic parts of the movie, as well as Endgame (when she shows up, a slower version)
youtube.com
And there's of course this track, when she breaks free of the Supreme Intelligence, which is among the most memorable moments:
youtube.com
I think that Ka-Zar could be A-tier, Jurassic World did 1.672 billion
>Because Carol was already B-list
She's a C-lister at best. A B-lister is someone like War Machine, who at least people are aware exists even if he doesn't do anything.
Why do they look 99% like knockoff new gods? Or random background New Gods that never appeared in the main series?
This. People forget the only relevancy Carol had for a long time was Rogue stealing her powers and the "raped by your own baby" plotline
Inhumans they probably will avoid until a hard reboot or something. Starjammers could be awesome, it has a sexy catgirl and a giant lizardman and a swashbuckler, and also an X-Men connection. Excalibur would be good to focus on the mystical side of things. X-Factor as a mutant detective thing. Power Pack and Pet Avengers as kid's movies. With Tony dead they'll probably do Ironheart. They could do War Machine also, as a more hard-edged military thriller. They probably don't want to do Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider since people already saw that, and Robbie Reyes has a show coming, but they could do Danny Ketch as a movie some day (or that Latina GR). West Coast Avengers could be good as a pure comedy.. maybe better as a TV show? Howard the Duck could get a movie. Apparently they're doing horror shows on Hulu so they could do Man-Thing, maybe Werewolf by Night..
They have a chance to do it with X-Force if they don't cancel that. They're pretty much Guardians but R-rated. I would only want it if Deadpool was kept out though.
Because Kirby made them right after he left DC and couldn't finish his New Gods there. Eternals is most literally the very last thing he ever did at Marvel too.
No matter how much you repeat the Avengers #200 meme, it's never gonna be true.
I meant Great Lakes Avengers as a comedy..
Whatever happened to that "New Warriors" series that was gonna have Canonball and Squirrel Girl in it, anyway?
Got to wonder just what the Celestial plan for deviants would be or what a successful Deviant species would look like. Even Skrulls are more of a dead end.
GotG weren't even the first D-lister they made popular
Machine Man movie when
Eh, I'm inclined to disagree.
Before Guardians, every single character to have an MCU movie already had an ongoing that was protected from cancellation.
I think part of the deal with the Deviants is that they were "successful" by dominating and overthrowing every other species, while adapting to every possible scenario and environment. There's no evolutionary "dead end" because there would always be adversity that pushes them to adapt quickly. Meanwhile, Eternals were already great but also small in numbers, so they don't dominate but always prevail by keeping the Deviants in check. Humans are just in the middle.
Without opening the links you showed me all I can remember from her soundtrack is that her letimoff had some synth stuff but I can't really recall what it sounded like or any other music from the movie. It really wasn't that memorable to me like the Winter Soldier, The First Avenger, or some of the Avengers soundrack.
I can see it happening. They did it with more than just GotG, so It shouldn't be hard. Iron-Man wasn't a nobody before the MCU, however he was not a very liked character and was seen as kind of annoying and shitty.
They're going to establish full blown Marvel Cosmic so I'm expecting a bunch of D-listers getting popular.
Her main theme actually sounds similar to TFA, except in a different direction since it's more martial-like at some parts. And there's even bits where it seems to ape John Williams instead of Zimmer (Pinar Toprak is his alumni), like the ambush at Torfa and the plane chase on Earth, straight outta Star Wars.
This feels like moving goalposts. The sign doesn't matter. All of the guardians are household names now. Ant-Man is a fucking household name. I don't see why Shang-Chi is a big deal especially when there is huge demand for an Asian character.
Cancelled when Cloak and Dagger did not do as well
Oh. Well I wasn't really looking forward to it because it didn't look much like the actual New Warriors, but I feel Cloak & Dagger is at the top of its game. It might not be too popular here because I rarely see any threads, but I'm enjoying the fuck out of it.
Deviantants are supposed to be in competition with Eternals in making a perfect evolution in humans. Cosmic powered people vs monsters that grow some all new adaptation per generation. Just no deviant ever seems to evolve up powers that can rival any eternal. When they are supposed to given enough time.
They seem like a mythical version of Inhumans. Genetically total shit with way too many of them just becoming mutant things with claws for eyes.
>They seem like a mythical version of Inhumans
Well, without the whole slavery thing... Though they did have coliseums in Lemuria, pitting humans against each other for sport.
I see this view about Iron Man mentioned a lot, but to me as a kid and just a casual comic/cartoon fan, he felt pretty important in whatever I saw him in, and the movie felt "deserved". Of course, I wasn't aware of the IP dealings between Marvel/Sony/etc, I just thought "yeah Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, the FF all have movies, guess it's Iron Man's turn now since he's the next biggest one alongside Captain America". But his cartoon, his role in the Avengers animated movies, the Ultimates, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (essentially 90% of my contact with Iron Man before the MCU) left me thinking he was a fairly big deal.
...Because they're both Kirby?
Did he just constantly reinvent the same old City of superpowered people with vertical lines and circles all over their costumes?
I’d say anyone who has his own comic going for decades is at least a B-lister.
Yes but with different influences. Eternals is more influence by ufo/chariots of the gods (the stuff that inspired stargate) shit that was popular during his time.
Asgardians
New gods
Inhumans
Eternals
He seemed to be more into the gods being advanced aliens from another planet
I want a Shazam styled Speedball movie
That would be amazing. Specially since Speedball is one of these characters who's secretly severely overpowered, but it's never explored beyond the goofy shit.
Only if they Roger Rabbit in Miles
>Cute
They keep doing it every time they release a new character other than Spider-Man.
Howard the Duck maybe
every one loves Scott Lang
Nah man. Most other characters are B or C tier, GotG was a bunch of literal whos. Like the kind of literal whos that you'd laugh at their runs for trying to incorporate Nova or Thor to keep their sales up. They were Z-list, just like their actors. And when it came out GotG was a top 3 Marvel movie and crushed everyone's expectations. It was and is incredible.
>martial arts guy.
you don't think a guy who will have cool fight scenes will have any appeal to the general public? Cap became well liked after Winter Soldier
I found it kind of interesting:
Humanity - Eternals exist, Deviants are rare, Humanity evolves to create mutants with the same X-gene as Eternals
Skrull - Deviants overwhelm "normal" and Eternal Skrulls, last remaining "normal" Skrull is MIA, the last Eternal Skrull became a deity but also died
marvel.fandom.com
Kree - Has their own version of the goddamn Justice League and X-men, so maybe the Kree mastered he X-gene. Also, they had one remaining Kree Eternal, Ultimus, who is also MIA.
marvel.fandom.com
I really hope Marvel will explore this in future.
I'd like to see them try a New Warriors movie, but it will most likely feature Squirrel Girl so...
>he doesn't know
They’re about to do it with Shang-Chi, and when they do, maybe he’ll get a little more respect on the New Agents of Atlas team in the comics, rather than being passed over for leadership for a child with less than half his experience. That’s assuming the team even lasts that long, which is doubtful.
Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Black Panther
There was a New Warriors pilot for Freeform (with Squirrel Girl in it, lol) but Freeform never picked it up and only a pilot exists.
The way it was described it sounded like shit, it was just New Warriors in name and it was basically Great Lakes Avengers with Mr. Immortal, Squirrel Girl, Speedball, Night Trasher, Microbe and Debrii. Also Night Trasher was into social media and wanted to see himself trend or some bullshit, I am glad it died.
Yeah I know. I think it was also feature Kamala, but since nothing came out of it I think it'd be a good idea to make it a movie and introduce a few characters like Nova.
>There was a New Warriors pilot for Freeform (with Squirrel Girl in it, lol) but Freeform never picked it up and only a pilot exists
Has anybody leaked it? I kind of want to see the shitshow.
With all the buzz around him. I think Richard is probably getting his movie, so I don't think Nova will be in Ms Marvel in any form.
Sony are going to turn Nightwatch into a superstar! A superstar!
We both know it'll be Sam.
Or maybe they'll just turn Richie Mexican to play out Sam's ethnic background.
>I think it was also feature Kamala
Didn't hear about that but really?
>but since nothing came out of it I think it'd be a good idea to make it a movie and introduce a few characters like Nova.
That would be good but it probably wouldn't involve Nova if it was a movie. Shame Marvel really hates the New Warriors or at least treats them like shit. At least the comic division does, I would probably had tried making them cosmic. With the exception of Nita and Night Trasher most of the original roster is probably good for it, not to mention they have been to space before.
I think they are still hoping the show gets picked up but eventually someone will leak it. I am curious about it too but hopefully it never gets picked up.
It's not going to be Sam. Rich is getting his heyday first.
>At least the comic division does
If you mean Brevoort sure, but there's some creators who are dying to do something with them (like Zub, Kuder and Isaakse, who also want to make an Alpha Flight book), except there's no pitch yet or it has been rejected. The issue as usual is whether there's an audience for that or not, since these teams are still too niche and the market is unforgiving.
Hopefully, but not that it matters considering the characters barely resemble to their comic counterpart.
Markus had Rich being involved in a possible scenario for Endgame, Perlman had him in her draft for GotG, Adam mckay is doing something with Marvel and he's a Richfag. Even James Gunn, when specifically asked about Rich, said they were considering him for the MCu and then started talking about how GotG vol. 3 is setting up the future of Marvel Cosmic in the MCU.
Feige also read Annihilation so I am sure he's familiar with the character and probably doesn't give a fuck about Sam because he never caught on like Kamala and Miles, also he's Loeb's creation.
>Or maybe they'll just turn Richie Mexican to play out Sam's ethnic background.
Might as well, Rich has the good stories and Sam's ethnic background is pretty nonexistant for most of his comics.
>pull off another "GotG"
Do people forget Iron Man was a fucking C-List?
The guys who are lobbying for Nova to have a movie at Marvel Studios seem like big fans of his, so I think they'll manage to get him pretty spot on if they ever get the project going.
The Quesada era was kind of brutal to the New Warriors. I still don't know WTF they were thinking in Civil War.
>also he's Loeb's creation.
This is a good point actually.
I completely forgot Loeb was part of the dreaded comic council.
I wish I could still have some hopes for characterization in the MCU.
Reminder
>Uproxx: I know you’re a huge Inhumans fan, and you lost that property to TV. Now, with that doing how it’s doing on television, do you look at that and go, well, maybe it’s best we didn’t do that one? Or do you still wish you had that property because you think you could have really knocked out of the park?
>Kevin Feige: [Laughs] You’re breaking up, Mike. I can’t hear you. You’re breaking up…
Loeb may loebby for Sam (see what I did there), but ultimately they have to come up with a convincing way to use him in the already known scenario of Xandar. They would have to give Sam all of Rich's characterization from Annihilation, and it certainly wouldn't work at all. Rich is the only one who would fit for someone who needs to get his shit together in a matter of hours after Thanos' destruction of Xandar and impending Annihilation Wave event (which I believe should be already on drafts for after GOTG3).
Honestly hope that Gunn at least lobbies to have Abnett and Rosemann involved in the script for a Nova movie like Rosemann wants to. Gunn has great respect for DnA and even had them on set for his Guardian movies.
Loeb can't lobby for shit. He has no say in the MCU since the split.
Remember they cancelled Ike's movie. What hope does Loeb has whatsoever?
The most he could do is try to snag the character for a TV Series I guess, but I don't know if he has any jurisdiction in the Disney+ shows.
The funniest part is that a few months later they got the full rights for the X-Men back.
It's incredible how Perlmutter absolutely murdered the Inhumans, his pet project, in both the comics and live action.
I don't know if Xandar's destruction at the hands of Thanos would work anymore to kick off the movie. The 5 year gap would present too many questions, like "Where the fuck was he?" And the "I was busy" shit Carol gives everyone won't fly.
Hello
If they were going for teenage character on Earth learning the ropes then I could see them going for Sam but it's obvious they're going for Cosmic and they are going to separate Cosmic from the regular stuff. Rich works best on that scenario and if they want a minority in the role it's easier to racebend Rich.
Also Gunn didn't really bother with Cosmic post-Bendis and if he did he sure as hell didn't touch anything Nova. As far as he knows people like Rich and even with the cosmic autist being a giant dildo he doesn't have any ill will towards the character and he already said Mcgloin doesn't influence any of his decisions either in a positive or negative way.
>The most he could do is try to snag the character for a TV Series I guess
Pretty much and it would be a Hulu show at the least, probably an animated one. Loeb's jurisdiction is only in the shows and some of the games which is why you never see Rich in any of them and only see Sam.
If the CC was still with Marvel Studios I could have actually expected to have seen Sam instead of Rich but now? I doubt it.
>I don't know if Xandar's destruction at the hands of Thanos would work anymore to kick off the movie.
>oh shit many of our officers are dead!
>welp! time for new recruits
>we're also equipping them with nova force now because the normal policeman get up can't handle this shit
What worries me the most is that his powers are very similar to Carol.
Maybe if he can form weapons out of Nova force? But then that screams Green Lantern.
Any ideas how you would differentiate him?
They're not going to use Sam first because Sam is the obvious "pass the torch" character after another few years have gone by
lel if the Comic Council were still around so would Bendis' still hoping to get a piece of the MCU cake.
>He doesn't know
The Guardians are unironically more popular with kids these days than Superman.
Groot and Rocket in particular are A-Listers, the former even has a character meet and greet at Disney Land.
Rich is at his best when there's no corps for him to fall back on. So, rebuilding isn't something they should be prioritizing.
I'd differentiate him by giving him a likable personality and focusing on the fact this powers are based around gravity, while also coming up with nifty uses for the portals he can make.
>Cute
Black Widow has always been a better character than Carol, with the exception being Age of Ultron bit that's because Whedon doesn't know how to write more than one kind of women.
>The 5 year gap would present too many questions, like "Where the fuck was he?" And the "I was busy" shit Carol gives everyone won't fly.
Make him a Nova trainee who survived Thanos fucking up Xandar but got dusted, 5 year gap and he comes back and he has the experimental Nova Force and WM. Cue him trying to go home and getting into whatever the movie is about. Star-Lord is involved of course. maybe towards the end he comes back home but his family wasn't dusted and most of his friends already moved on (and maybe he took years to get back home even post dusting). In the end he finds he doesn't fit anymore back on Earth and just goes back.
Also this, Rich is the Lone Ranger of the Novas and doesn't really need the Nova corps. if the MCU wants Space cops the Space Knights should fill that void. Plus you can have Annihilation happen with Rich being in any planet and watch him survive Annihilus' genocide. It doesn't specifically have to be the Nova corps.
>What worries me the most is that his powers are very similar to Carol.
He does a bunch of shit Carol doesn't do alone in DnA's run, mainly with his gravity powers and the stargate stuff. Also he's a more defensive character than an offensive one, play that shit and you're good to go.
She was at is best in Endgame, but I also really liked her in Winter Soldier.
Her other appearances were meh at best.
Death's Head is IMHO definitely an obscure character who could become huge if given the opportunity.
>He does a bunch of shit Carol doesn't do alone in DnA's run
Like what?
Good revisionism. People always called BW shit until TWS, then shit again until IW.
Damn I thought this was ROM the spaceknight in the thumbnail
I think it could work if you do it as a setup for Annihilation, given the way the event works in the comic. Hear me out:
From the moment of the rampage, the Nova Prime directive is activated, an AI project that condenses the entire power of the Novas (created with the Power Stone) is buried under the rubble of destruction, while most Nova Corps die by Thanos' hand. Switch to a greenhorn cadet, Richard Rider from Earth, who's blatantly ignored by Thanos and manages to survive, finds the building where the AI is housed. He puts on the suit, and Worldmind is activated, with Glenn Close's voice (kinda writes itself there). Rich tries to control the new powers to go after Thanos, but the AI shuts down on him and insists they shouldn't go because he isn't ready for Thanos, and instead starts getting hundreds of calls from all across the galaxy to give aid (the Snap takes place within days of this incident, after all).
Now here's HOW to make the gap believable: "Annihilation" in the comics has a countdown of days since/before the Annihilation event, what we can do here is add days and months to a rupture in spacetime created by the Snap, through which a first wave from the Negative Zone leaks in. And this is where you tie it with Captain Marvel's absence, at some point both intersect trying to deal with it, going planet after planet getting rid of these locusts, and realizing they can't do shit by themselves. Meanwhile Rich is increasingly overworked, exhausted and getting more and more frustrated with Worldmind right until the moment he finally meets Annihilus, who's behind the wave, and has a first encounter. He unlocks the full power of the Nova Force, and manages to destroy most of the Annihilation Wave coming on the way of a Star System, knocking Annihilus back for a moment. He sends Blastaar while retreating, and at some point gets stranded in space fully powered, but with Worldmind deactivated, trying to get back home by doing random gravimetric jumps.
This for starters. Not Rich but have a regular Centurion using his powers and Rich can do this too. I'll post more stuff just let me get it.
And to think the Inhumans would've been such great antagonists/allies for the F4 before or after introducing Galactus. At least I'm glad Agents of SHIELD did them justice, even while neglecting to introduce the Royals in the show they had people like Flint in it, very comic accurate casting too.
I love Shang Chi, but he shouldve been on Netflix and Iron Fist should get the big budget movie
Taskmaster is C-list and I'm sure if they gave him a film he'd blow up.
As for D-list...Captain Britain?
Taskmaster is gonna be wasted as the throw out antagonist in the Black Widow prequel
Sorry my dude.
>I love Shang Chi, but he shouldve been on Netflix and Iron Fist should get the big budget movie
Eh, Shang Chi and Iron Fist were said to have been the 2 greatest hand to hand fighters in Marvel before Shang Chi got the ability to split himself. Even if Iron Fist is more well known, it makes sense to give the more powerful fighter in the same niche their movie first.
>Maybe if he can form weapons out of Nova force?
Leave that to Quasar, in my opinion. Either Phyla or Wendell, but differentiating them is a priority here. Nova, after all, is powered by the Power Stone, which I doubt would rely much on imagination as Quasar's powers do. Not that the Stones are any consistent in that regard, but yeah.
Quasar is already rumored to be in GOTG3, though likely it's gonna be Phyla. The Quantum Bands will be the alien answer to the Pym Particle tech, but instead of using it to shrink/enlarge, it's used to draw theoretically endless energy from the Quantum Realm and to create constructs.
>Taskmaster
>antagonist
But why...? His story is so god damn interesting. He's basically SHIELD at its best, no LMDs required.
>inb4 he gets mar-vell'd in favour of the lesbian chick
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Because MCU.
They just plaster characters' names onto their generic baddies regardless of comic lore.
This can be rewritten for the movie as the suit itself acting like a ship, with a built-in spacetime jump tech, making him create these hexagons ships use in the movies for long distance trips.
Eh it's very likely, MCU movies already have a problem with female representation, I can see them trying to squeeze another somehow. Not that I would like it , but whatever, Phyla's not that bad.
I don't have the page but he also crushes some Kree sentries that try to go through one of his gates at one point. Also besides shielding he can make energy bubbles that can block out psychic attacks.
Yeah I was going to say leave that to Quasar
I want to fuck that golden goddess.
Agents of Atlas will be a household brand in your lifetime.
From the older Nova stuff but he also has super speed, I think we get to see this in DnA's run when he's talking Robbie out of being a Nova.
BTW I just noticed that in DnA's run Nova's energy attacks are shown as being orange while his gravimetric attacks are shown as being blue.
Shang-Chi will join Cobra Kai in the martial arts kino category.
Someone mentioned it earlier, but this is how you introduce the Raptors as antagonists in the Nova movie, which eventually would lead to Darkhawk. Have both Rich and Robbie be cadets in the Nova Corps, except Robbie gets lost during the Xandar attack and Rich thinks he's dead. But instead he's taken by the Raptors, who recruit him for their cause and brainwash him as Talonar.
Gunn seemed to like Duggan's run or at least he read it, so there's a chance he might be open to an idea of this caliber.
I might be wrong but I am almost certain that before this he was just a stronger Cannonball who could absorb energy. DnA really got creative with his power skills. After he died and Loeb brought Sam everyone just makes him the guy that flies and shoots lasers.
Also the whole "Helmet gives the Novas their powers" shit is annoying and just contributed to the Green Lanterification of Nova.
I don't know why, but there's something about a woman with a messy hair style that I really like.
Basically, Africans, Mediterraneans and Aryans.
You're probably a mud or a cuck.
The fuck?
>Darkhawks are used to establish the Shi'ar Empire
>Gladiator and Deathbird are both enemies strong enough to smack Carol around
Hey I like this.
>blue blazes
>good gravy
I just love his wholesome upbringing.
I would like to see Carol fight Deathbird in the MCU.
It writes itself, dudes. Specially if you consider they could later do Galactic Storm down the road, which involved Quasar and the Shi'ar's Imperial Guard, perfect excuse to use all your cosmic heavy-hitters in a movie separate from the Avengers.
>Galactic Storm
>separate from the Avengers
But Cap & co. infiltrating Hala was the whole point of that story!
Also Quasar is too good and pure for the MCU.
They were, but after Infinity Saga I figure they would want to stick to Earth stories from now on, leaving all the other cosmic-tier heroes to take care of the bigger threats. At the very least it would keep both things separate and branch out their properties.
Just some of that good ol' MCU retooling would do.
It's his dad's catchphrase since his dad doesn't like cursing so it's kind of the Rider family thing. Of course once New Warriors happened and Rich got more jaded he developed a potty mouth. Then after Annihilation it's both blue blazes, the typical flark, and the occasional bad word.
>It's his dad's catchphrase since his dad doesn't like cursing
I know that. Why do you think I referred to his wholesome upbringing?
Gib snarky goth gf
Yeah I also liked when Peter says it in Annihilation Conquest. It's kind od a cute catchphrase.
>disney injectiing money in their own movie to feign success.
>conspiracy theories in a well mannered, feel good thread about cosmic stuff
Leave.
It's sad that nobody at Marvel remembers it and he hasn't said it in almost a decade. Then again, he's had one on-going comic in the 3 years since he's been back, which is just fucking pathetic.
I'm kind of upset that they killed his dad in Nova vol. 7 and mostly because Loveness wanted Rich to relate to Sam about the whole absent father thing. Also it's horrible to think his dad died thinking Rich was dead and at some point Rich mom was all alone.
As someone who doesn't really like Superman, this was the biggest turn off for me. She has busted powers like the man of steel, but none of his charm or conflict.
I did find it interesting and a bit funny that she completely jobs her fight with Thanos, though. Being super strong doesn't mean as much if you're an idiot with hubris. I doubt it's supposed to be a genuine character moment, but the idea makes her feel more like a person as opposed to a Super Sue.
He said it in Infinity Countdown: Darkhawk but yeah no one in Marvel really remmebers it. Not even Duggan had him say it in his Guardians run and Duggan knows he says Blue Blazes.
Yeah that's pretty sad, Ralph Rider gets murdered, then Rich gets Cancerverse'd and his family doesn't know anything until Sam brings his helmet, then Robbie is MIA, then Charles dies and she's alone until Rich pops back. I She's also going to find out Robbie is alive what with Loki passing himself off as a Nova to try and get her to space to use as bait against Robbie.
Ah ok
Retconning Ginger into a goth was one of the best things that was done with that otherwise bland character. It makes her an outcast just like Rich while also making her contrast with Rich's averageness and normalcy.
Dream casting for saying 'my robot brain needs beer'. Shit, I would've said Brendan Fraser, but that's a no-go
Is it?
>nobody at Marvel remembers it
That's not true, Al Ewing remembers.
Better idea would to go for a Daredevil that isn't dark and normies aren't familiar with.
Fuck I am trying not to get hyped for his Quasar and Nova story but it can't get here soon enough.
Hell a better question is could the MCU make Stilt-Man into an extremely popular household name?
Maybe Nova, why Marvel never launched a book about the Nova Corps? Space cops is such a easy and fun concept.
Remember when Turk mugs Stiltman and steals his suit?
Good times.
Mark Walhberg as Daredevil is my dream.
This. You could do so much with it. Hell even DC has struggled to make space cop stories for decades despite Green Lanterns existing for so damn long.
>Mark Wahlberg as Daredevil
This is so weird.
The Rich and Carol have the same/similar powers is one of the most repeated things. I even saw someone claiming Green Lantern had the same powers they did. At some point people just start memeing what they see other people saying.
Kinda sad that the only memorable scenes with Captain Marvel are her being punched into the stratosphere by Thanos, and getting weirdly flirty with Spider-Man.
I swear people don't even read the comics of the characters they use to compare them. Despite all that stuff about the Nova "Corps", Green Lantern's powers are actually more similar to Quasar's, hell, both are powered by imagination.
Or the entire scene of her fighting Thanos and almost beating him up by herself, but I guess her getting punched is more "memorable" for those who don't like her already.
All behind the scenes shit and Christopher Markus saying he specifically used Rich in one of his IW ideas points to them using Rich.
They might even just cast a white actor and you know some people will throw social media hissy fits like they did with Ant-Man and now Scott is one of the most loved characters.
>Fighting Thanos and almost beating him up by herself
I think you're confusing Carol with a far more likable character, user
>Do you think the MCU will ever pull off another "GotG"? That is, turn D-list characters into extremely popular household names?
There's 200 replies so someone said this but they're doing it like next year
Most likely Eternals will eventually lead to the equivalent of the 'Young Gods' (using a different name of course) that will end up being exemplars of a trait of humanity and become more well known and well liked among children than the concept of Justice League will be. Eternals of course will most likely likewise be liked like them as well.
There will probably be some changes to some characteristics of them though so there isn't a problem with characters aging off screen or having powers that are of little use or that are too useful.
Shang Chi will get the movie first because he's Chinese
They can't do that because they would have to bring up Aerie and what happened to it after it sank into an ocean and also the Aerians and their 'offshoots' and also Savage Land.
>implying the first MCU X-Men movie won't be about Savage Lands and Sauron because it's something Fox would never have even tried to do
nu-darkhawk is just edgy nova
Total comic book newfag here, but is this fanart of a specific run? I love my fucking scifi but have always been somewhat adverse to capeshit, but I keep seeing pages and art like this that makes me really hope theres a GoTG comic for me.
Thats just Femto...
You will find what you seek on this list. Dan Abnett is more known for writing 40k books than for comics and you can see the influence of that in his comics.
Thanks fren
Enjoy, fren.
Is very good.
>1 billion was not a success
No, I'm not. In both occasions Thanos had to cheat in order to get ahead (shooting from Sanctuary, and the Power Stone). He didn't have to do these dirty tactics with the others, remember he fought Thor, Captain America and Iron Man with his fists and blade only.
He was bigger than C. B at least. He was one of the bigger Avengers members, and he had his own animated series back in the 90s. The big Marvel fans knew who Iron Man was.
For me it's the idea of making a prim and proper lady who thing she is above it all messy and dirty from rough mating.
>the more powerful fighter in the same niche
You do realize Iron Fist has, like, fighting game character powers, right? The glowing hand can do all kinds of shit.
people got baited thinking:
- it was an interesting story
- she'd be important in avenger
neither happened, and she's forgotten, while the fucking talking rat of the guardians is still a beloved meme.
>neither happened, and she's forgotten
If that were true, you would stop talking about her this much...
I'm a retard, do you go down the column horizontally or vertically?
Told my 7th grade sister they were making a Shang-Chi movie. Surprised how excited she got. For context, we're both asians.
Vertically.
Do you think they'll give him his cloning powers or is he just going to be martial arts? I kind of want him to have cloning, if purely because of how unique it is.
Thanks.
Yeah, it's not like X-Men had a guy who did that already.
that's a ridiculous question. Even very popular comics only have a fraction of the audience of movies.
Traditionally popular characters like spiderman, batman superman and the x-men are popular because of movies, cartoons and videogames.
And the vast majority of super popular movies were not adaptations, or were adaptations of relatively unknown material.
This idea that for a movie to be successful it must be an aaptation of an already popular character is frankly absurd. It's movies that make characters popular, not the other way around.
They should make a Hyperion movie, a Nighthawk movie,a Power Princess movie, then a Nighthawk vs Hyperion movie, finally leaing to a Squadron Supreme movie.
And then DC would be truly finished.
Cast her.
Gal Gadot
No, just kidding, Gina Carano
>starring Henry Cavill as a happy, smiling Hyperion
>Ben Affleck as an intelligent and badass Nighthawk
Can it be done?
It was very successful but I agree she didn't cement herself culturally the way guardians did.
There's a lot of potential for her in a sequel but if that doesn't change things up she might end up being like James Cameron's Avatar.
