Did they just not feel like doing the prosthetics and makeup anymore? This looks like shit.
Did they just not feel like doing the prosthetics and makeup anymore? This looks like shit
yes it does
she didn't want all the makeup
She got famous enough that she could demand to not have to sit in makeup for 8 hours a day
That and she was allergic to it
I was looking at a comparison pic the other day and it's kinda crazy that she has less and less detail by movie. Remember when she had some of those ridges on her cheeks all the way to the bridge of her nose? Remember when she had reptile-like eyes?
Surely there's a middle point between "complex 3 dimensional textured rubber scales over her entire body that takes 6 hours to apply" and "county fair facepainting booth"
"Allergic". Just like how Marian Hossa is allergic to his equipment and can sit on long term injured reserve for the rest of his contract.
Can you post it?
I'm gonna assume that's a sports thing and trust you on it. She's said in interviews that fluid discharge was involved.
I agree, but she has probably has too much sway for anyone to reach an agreement with her. Besides, wouldn't it be more expensive and time-consuming to find a solution that doesn't trigger allergies. Not to mention reshoots. I imagine part of not finding option 3 was everyone just getting this shit over with.
how did we go from this...
I don't have it on me but you can just look up Mystique on First Class, DOFP, Apocalypse and now this movie. Surprisingly she loses the eyes as early as DOFP and the skin texture is pretty different there too.
to this...
to this?
I still think it's funny that the original plan was so imply Jennifer Lawrence grows up to become early 2000's Rebecca Romijn. Like really?
I mean the character is a shape changer. It's not beyond the realm of possibilities that as she gets stronger and better at using her powers her "natural state" might be easier for her to slightly change to look more human
>as she gets stronger and better at using her powers her "natural state" might be easier for her to slightly change to look more human
Her character arc in First Class is all about becoming proud of being a mutant, and this is thrown away because Lawrence was able to say fuck you, I'm not putting on makeup.
The number of boners I got to Rebecca Romijn's Mystique as a kid are reason enough to mock JLaw's cheap knock-off.
It might be the best that Jennifer Lawrence has looked as the character. It aaaaalmost looks good. It looks like they decided to do all the colors in post, and if they just tweaked the color a bit more it would look really good.
Reminded me of Sil from Species
Why the fuck did she even come back.
Money
>letting technicians put poison on your naked body and genitals
i have a newfound respect for jlaw
Any Mystique that isn't smooth-skinned and rocking a nice white dress is garbage.
at least that garbage got my dick hard
>Don't want to wear prosthetics
>They still refuse to use the skull dress
Why? It's not like the series hasn't done half a dozen costumes more exposing than a simple slit down the leg dress, with a skull belt.
yeah, the costume takes a fucking long time to set up, she's an big name with more power to just say no and that kind of make up is uncomfortable as all hell if you look up nearly any interviews by actors/actresses that had to wear that during production Hugo Weaving and Rebecca Romijn.
Won't someone think of the actors that work for 60 hours a year and make more than most people will in a lifetime
>tfw it was almost reaching proper Mystique look, maybe in a couple movies
Obviously.
never noticed the scale happy trail below her belly button before
it's so lewd
>tfw you'll never be one of those artists
Would Yea Forums help JLaw with her allergic reactions?
>IF ONLY THERE WERE A MORE PRACTICAL MYSTIQUE COSTUME WE COULD USE
Did they ever, ever, give a reason why they didn't go with that? In an era where the leotard is somehow viewed as degrading, outside of being used as an insult for a lions, and a shapeshifting character literally walks around in a long sleeveless dress, how did they end up at the conclusion
>Nah, we need to dye her crotch blue
I'm not saying it wasn't great, but why not just use the dress if it's causing so many problems? Zoe Saldana isn't dying her crotch green because they aren't using Gamora's mesh suit, why is this not just as simple?
Same reason why they openly insulted the yellow spandex in the first film: not tacticool enough.
Literally the last gasp of a dead franchise. Is it even releasing?
Dark Phoenix is. New Mutants probably isn't.
Then they should have got a different actor.
But they're back to using the yellow spandex. And despite Mystique leaving the x-men every single movie, she still fucking wears the yellow spandex!
like pottery
Honestly I like her look in Dark Phoenix more then First Class the scales not having a different tone of blue from the skin looks unbearably cheap.
They paid a shit ton for JLaw and bowed to her every whim, which is why her makeup has gotten cheaper and she appears more as a human.
And if it wasn't obvious she's going to die early in Dark Phoenix.
Why did you spoiler tag that? The fucking director straight up confirmed it after the second trailer dropped.
They didn't feel like writing a proper role either, nor did she feel like acting well
The amount of makeup on Mystique is proportionate to how much the creative team actually cares about making a decent movie.
why the fuck are they using prosthetics at all
mystique is a regular looking lady with DARK blue skin. DARK blue. no weird scales, just yellow eyes.
The movies starting with First Class were supposed to be prequels to the first movies so she had to look the same, then DOFP threw a wrench into that, and now they don't really care about tying things together since it's the last one anyway.
I never complained about these movies' timeline because frankly I don't give a shit, but they really should have just rebooted the series with First Class.
Also Nightcrawler has those markings for... whatever reason.
The idea for the markings back in X2 is that they were supposed to be ritualistic scarring depicting angels, one for each sin. Apparently this was his way of atoning for them.
80's teenage Nightcrawler already has them so I think either they're implying he was already deep into the sin/atonement thing or they just completely forgot why Kurt had the marks to begin with.
I recall that, they replayed the movie on tv just the other day. But they had the perfect chance to ditch that stupid thing with the reboot, that's what I don't get.
The makeup bothers everyone which is just high standards based off the first films when originally from comics she just had blue skin so i don't care about the makeup.
What really bothers me is the fake ass party city hair, literally in every movie, all that needs done is tone down the brightness and make it darker and add layers of shifting transitioning colors to make it looks at least somewhat normal and natural. I also prefer no pupils especially no dumb yellow cat eye shit.
Overall she was better as a villain, i dont care for crybaby mystique.
Heres a quick shitshop based on what i would of preferred based on these posts as reference..
>Overall she was better as a villain, i dont care for crybaby mystique.
She isn't even a villain in the original films. She's a mute henchwench who mindlessly obeys Magneto's every word when in the comics she would be sticking him with a plastic knife the moment she got bored with him.
There are alternatives that can be used. The beauty of cinematic make up is that you have at least a dozen different options to choose from if one doesn't work. She's being a primadonna.
At least we don't have to deal with her shit for much longer.
I want to know why they where so obsessed with Mystique of all people.
Well her goal in the first movie was to pass as human, and hide her true nature, so her becoming less and less obviously mutant as she gains experience with her powers would make sense.
Not saying this is what happened but you can handwave it away easily.
She is cutest in Phoenix.
>Well her goal in the first movie was to pass as human
Yeah, Im sure that wasn't written that way at all to hide the fact that the actress didn't want to do makeup
Don't pretend that being an actor doesn't require a large ego and vanity.
Why are we picking on JLaw for a flaw all actors male and female have.
Was there ever a reason for Mystique to have scales? Why is that a thing in the movies?
And funnily enough, Nightcrawler's actor declined to return to the third film...because he hated the makeup.
She actually looks like Mystique and not Blue Lizard Girl
Also they reshot this movie like 3 times at this point, and she's not in it all that much according to rumor, so more than likely they just simplified it for ease of shoot.
Literally nobody cares at this point. It's almost certainly going to suck, and even if it doesn't it doesn't matter because these movies are donezo with Marvel getting the rights back.
She's lazy and she wanted out and just refused.
It was a combination of that and the script having him not do all that much beyond be there because he was there in X2.
Cummings decided there was no way he was gonna go through makeup hell just to stand in the background and have a few throwaway lines.
I still question what they were thinking with er movie design. How is naked scales any more serious than her white dress?
It started probably as just an attempt to give her a unique design over just blue skin and then they had to stick with it
its the same with MCU and their heroes spending more time without their get up
The logic behind it was that it didn't make sense for her clothes to morph with her, so they had her nude and used scales so that she doesn't have straight up nipples exposed.
Also the short slicked-back hair was done because it was easier for the morphing animation.
mmff
Not really. People have had to stop doing make-up intensive roles for health reasons before. If it were actually just some easy way to get out of doing part of your job, studio lawyers would be all over it.
It's a dumbass logic since she's shown morphing clothes. But I was into the idea of her walking around naked so it's fine.
Well, why doesn't she use her morphing powers to make it seem as if there are clothes on her body?
>She's said in interviews that fluid discharge was involved
Is that some fancy shmancy term for bukkake?
Ironic. Comics Kurt looked way cooler, just add some shadowing in the face digitally and BAM.
This. Though Iron Man's armors kept getting more complicated and worse looking.
Because her flaws and ego resulted in a shittier product in a very visible and obvious way.
Let's not forget that her Mystique being nothing like the comic book counterpart has a lot to do with the actress not giving a fuck about any of the material. They asked her in a Wired interview to name five X-Men characters and she couldn't even name three. This is from the same person who was involved in the franchise since First Class.
Not like the previous one was anything like the comics, though. The actress did a bit of research, learned Kurt was her son and stuff, but that amounted to nothing. I doubt anyone suggested they read the comics at all.
Like they ever do. Only the ones that give a shit go out of their way to read comics.
The same shit happened with Beast too, what's the point of having him accept his appearance in FC when you're just going to make him look human again in every other movie?
Contract they got her cheap
>paid a lot
No they did not actually they had a contract deal which she regretted because she could not renegotiate
every single thing about JLaw;s Mystique has been shit since she was cast
