I remember that! I had never thought of this for more than a decade. It's like something has been ripped from the depths of my mind and resurfaced.

Any Europeans I didnt mention the country of, can you post cartoons/comics from your country?

>Not Werner

Zum gaskammer raus.

What a based thread!

Sadly, outside of France and Belgium, I'd say the state of European Yea Forums is pretty dismal.

Speaking of which, here's the first thing that comes to mind when I try to think of Lithuanian cartoons:
youtube.com/watch?v=rSNVNBx9Y8k
The Amber Castle - a Soviet-Lithuanian short based on a Lithuanian legend.
There was a Russian dub on youtube which I think has English subtitles, but I couldn't find it right now.
Other than this, I can't think of much else, I think there are some arthouse art projects that no one cares about but that's it. I did find this video on youtube, however.
youtube.com/watch?v=sHQM8SiI15Y
It's an adaptation of a Lithuanian poem "The Mushroom War". It's a bout mushrooms fighting a war.

>Slovakia

Czechoslovakian at its dawn and throughout most of its duration, Czechia from 1993 onwards.

A fucking masterpiece.

>The Amber Castle
looks animesque, especially Perkūnas

Italian comics are fucking based.

better one

Well, Germany has a decent track record if it actually gets it's ass up and does something, at least if we are talking about 2d stuff.

Co XD
Jeszcze czego.

Maybe in the form of scurrying rodent poetry.

By one of the attractive Russian girls who seem to be the only remaining fans of the show? What an intriguing idea.

Portugal.

We have a very small selection. Hopefully I'll be adding to the quality soon.

I think now I know where anime style came from. The God Perkunas looks like some late 70s animeguy, despite this cartoon dating in 59

Did you read the comic by any chance? If so, how is it?
I recently read the latest book, and that fucker still can't continue his story even after years. I love Moers' writing, but that fucking ending to "Das Labyrinth" and then YEARS of nothing new slowly makes me hate him.

quality thread OP, bless you

Another German contender: Nick Knatterton
Originally written in the 50's as a persiflage to American superheroes, Nick is strong, smart, and has every imaginable kind of gadget.
Known for the great humor, especially in the captions, and the beautiful buxom women Nick encounters both as allies and enemies (but never does anything lewd, of course, he's all gentleman), it even got a cartoon series and a few live action movies.
Unfortunately, Nick has fallen into obscurity nowadays, but it's a great read and the cartoon is funny as hell.

Herrlich

Never managed to find the original comic anywhere but I have the cartoon on DVD, and it's still pretty great. I liked it as a kid because of Knatterton's cool gadgets, but was too innocent at the time to realize how hilariously lewd that cartoon was. Also, I love how all the episodes seem to end with the good guys and the villains happily making some kind of shady business deal that smells like corruption.

Attached: knatterton.jpg (476x360, 34K)

>Did you read the comic by any chance? If so, how is it?
It's okay.
My biggest problem is that it got a pretty stiff pace and most pages are just plastered with word balloons and text boxes.

The art is fine though it's the sort of overly polished digital style that always looks a tad stiff to me.
The backgrounds are pretty great though.

Attached: IMG_0353.jpg (3264x2448, 1.86M)

unless it gets the international distribution treatment, very.

we already got Italy and France
why don't you let someone else do W.I.T.C.H.

Why not post the pages where Loki gets raped by a horse

Good choice OP

Also good thread.

The Netherlands also has good comics but they are mostly ignored or people assume they are Belgian.

Most of Russia geographically is in Asia. Most of Russia population-wise and culturally is in Europe.

So I decided to check this one out and it's really obscure. It's on youtube with english subs if someone's interested

During the the 50's and 60's Vazquez was the one indisputable maestro.

He was also a scammer, con-artist and fraudster who went to jail multiple times and even ripped off his own publisher regularly.

There are many legends about Vazquez scamming his own bosses.

One of these legends involves delivering his finished pages inside one of those large brown envelopes.

Most of the time the editors didn't even bother to check the pages, they simply ripped a corner of the envelope and counted the pages to check that the artists had drawn their assigned number of pages.

Vazquez realized this, and once gave his editor an envelope full of finished pages, which the editor checked using the aforementioned method, only to find out later on that Vazquez, had only drawn one of the corners and left the rest of the page blank.
