I haven't watched this show since the monster arm episode in season one. Did I miss out, or was me ignoring these threads for the past few years a good thing?

He wanted to secure the future. Basically Glossaryk is Doctor Strange, he saw the best timeline is the one that requires Meteora to dip down and break out of her cage so that Globgor could get sympathy from the crowd. The timeline now would have been different otherwise. He just taught her to dip down just so she could have that moment. Also to survive in the netherzone in that one episode.

Age and wisdom go hand in hand. He's lived a long amount of time seeing the Butterfly family fuck things up. At some point something had to give. He probably thought the magical high commission would keep magic under control by recklessly pinning down threats, but that clearly isn't working. Also likely knows of the strongest Eclipsa spell that has no name. Plus he can go down the river of time to know future events. He sees the past, present, and future as having the same problem, idiots fucking things up with magic. He clearly didn't care if he lived or died, and just wanted the world to stop being fucked up by magic. Remember, "I had to do it to defeat Toffee", "maybe that was a mistake too." If Toffee won, magic would have been destroyed. Toffee was Glossaryk's plan to destroy all magic, and Star stopped it. He even wanted her to stay dead for it to happen, only for her to dip down and escape.

This is the biggest problem with the episode. I could buy that Moon got desperate and acted recklessly by allying herself with Mina. I really liked the twist that the armor was just a random schmuck and there's more on the way with Mina at the head, but making Moon responsible is just out of character. Especially at this point of her life (past Magic Dimension).

Basically everything that happens is thanks to magic.

The monsters lived in fear of the Butterfly family due to the queen's wand. Magic.
In the tavern episode they to go a place where people go to get away from their worse problems that they cannot fix. And why are they there? Hekapoo: "Magic related issues". Star realizes that her whole family has been a bunch of over powered screwups that made everything worse with magic over and over. So she goes to talk with Glossyark about destroying magic once and for all. He then spoils the ending by showing Star's tapestry in the grandma room completed, showing her destroy magic once and for all. Except Marco isn't on it. Because destroying magic sends everyone back to the realms they were born in.

Honestly in retrospect we were just kept on a leash by the actually good episodes in a sea of otherwise mediocre ones. This show suffers from the same problem that a lot of cartoons do where the writers bit off way more than they could chew in terms of lore, plot, shipping, and the like, and those problems really came to head with this season

The Book of Spells implied that all of the original Solarian Warriors eventually self destructed with the exception of Mina. Solaria's death was never explained, she probably died in battle or got killed by her own creations.

I wonder if that's what's actually going to happen. Glossaryck is quick to confirm that no Magic means no Glossaryck and Marco going to Earth but he's surprisingly silent about destroying magic.
Since she's the only one, it's probably because those warriors turned on each other and as the undefeated, Mina had some time to cooldown to not just jump off a cliff.

Except that Glossaryk was willing to let Toffee win, even when it meant the destruction of magic. He told Star to sit back and basically stay dead with him, only for her to dip down and make a new magical unicorn. Face it, Glossaryk doesn't care if he lives or dies, he only cares about the future, and the best possible future is one with no magic. He has seen the future thanks to the time river, he knows things only get worse with magic around.

You know, I had hopes for this show after the fun I had with season 3, but now I feel so disappointed in this show. Seasons 1 and 2 are great, don't get me wrong, and S3 is good too. It's just this final season that dragged everything down. From filler episodes that could've been used for lore or world building to ships getting sunk just so Starco is bound for endgame, this season just sunk everything it had going for it. I can't wait to see this ship go down.

A proper children's villain would have a big speech explaining to everyone exactly why he's doing it and give us some kind of backstory or flashback so we can better see his point of view. I don’t understand why Moon thought for a second that this would be a good idea. The Solarian warrior spell is supposed to give anyone afflicted by it an intense hatred for monsters, and Moon gave them the armor and means to kill monsters easily. Despite this, Moon thought that they wouldn’t kill any monsters and that they’d stay loyal to her even though fucking MINA was leading them. Not only is this stupid as hell which is OOC for Moon, it’s not something that Moon would do in general. It feels like they did this just for it to be a shocking twist. I understand that Moon doesn’t trust Eclipsa, but she didn’t seem at all like the type of person to try and overthrow her like that and force her to fuck off to another dimension.
Also I don’t really get the whole “I liked you from the start” thing with Marco. If he did then WHY did he lust after Jackie for two seasons and show no hints other than being shocked at how good Star looked for the Blood Moon Ball? On the topic of their relationship, they went from acting like the usually do to super lovey dovey in like 5 seconds after declaring their relationship as official, it was really weird.

The Mewmans, who have been canonically established to be humans from Earth brought to Mewni through magic, will be sent back to Earth when the magic is gone. Glossaryk planted the idea in her head that recreating magic was a bad idea. Since we already know he knows what's going to happen, that already seemed notable before, but especially so now. He's not really saying "no, don't do it", he's saying "think a bit harder this time about what you're doing". She already fucked up on a few occasions, and she's seen the other two people on her level fuck up as well. Eclipsa is ready to give up without a significant fight, and her mother caught a case of retardation and gave seemingly unlimited power to a psycopath. All three of them have had a turn now since Moon first disappeared, and it's all been a cascading series of failures, with magic being the instrument of that failure. As stupid as it is in the frame of the badly written narrative, I think her conclusion that magic is the problem is reasonable. Without it, their ability to fuck things up becomes limited to the confines of their average human ability.

They already had the whole Meteora Mariposa episode just to justify why it's actually good that despite not having magic the world's should be connected because they were promised to grew up together. Fuck consequences, the audience would be sad if the two last minute babies can't see each other agaon., And if they are sad they can't buy all the merch and comics they will make post ending.

Thinking back on the series as a whole, almost everyone is awful or has done something awful. Unironically, Ludo is the best thing this show produced.
