This is an understandable misconception. Nintendo has never had the juggernaut reputation that The Mouse had, and the narrative that Nintendo got their nose bloodied in sever multiple console generations affects peoples thinking in a way that doesn't apply to Disney. Nobody thought Disney was going to die when Titanic came out.

Marvel is bigger than Pokemon. When people compare Pokemon they just compare it to the MCU, they dont look at Marvel as a whole company

All Pokemon adaptations are different continuities by default. There may be nods and canon-hoppers, but the game is not the show and vice versa. Now there's even a separate animated movie continuity.

I'm wondering how they could do a movie with gym battles and stuff like the elite four? Would you feature all 8 battles in one movie or only a select few? And save the elite four stuff for another movie?

They'd probably have to montage a few of the gym battles, but the bigger issue is that there isn't much of an actual story to the gym badge/Pokemon league journey. Even the anime had to spice it up with a bunch of side adventures.

Yeah I guess future movies should focus on other stuff like adventures or looking for a legendary pokemon. Maybe stopping a plot of an evil organisation like team rocket.

I would make it about the actual League itself, where Ash in the anime enters an actual tournament for a prize.
Doesn't have to be Ash as the protag, but it should take that structure instead of trying to replicate the actual "campaign" of the average Pokemon game.

It's actually pretty decent. Not 10/10, but I'd give it a low 8. If you can appreciate some cornball shit towards the end and overuse of flashbacks (it's a detective story so it didn't really bother me) then you'll probably enjoy it. You'll get more out of it if you know anything about Pokemon beforehand though.

It needed a bolder director to make the neo-noir and Ashnime influences more than a set dressing for a conventional family movie, but it's an alright matinée that does Pokémon and their world justice (which is an achievement, because video games are very far from having the same credibility in Hollywood as capes - seriously, having a faithful and accurate Pokémon world in a studio tentpole is as wild in concept as Guardians of the Galaxy was five years ago).
