Will the Pokémon become the main MCU rival? Pokémon Detective Pikachu is Great and the 2nd (1st was Wreck-it Ralph) Quality VGM and they have 3 Sequels/Spinoffs/Same-Universe Films in Development: Detective Pikachu 2, a Spinoff about Mewtwo, a Film based off Gen 1. it's already been kicking Avengers: Endgame's ass since Thursday.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu
What they do next is completely up in the air, the people on the staff have said that no one should make a NCU until they can nail Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and Metroid in movie form and even then it would be more work than Avengers, they also don't know if they should go near the anime's territory since they think Ash is uncastable, which is fine since they probably want to keep the Game/Anime universe separate.
That fucking mouse need to learn that no matter how big your franchises are
>YOU
>WILL
>NEVER
>BEAT
>THE
>POKETRAIN
Pikachu is literally the most popular mouse in the world.
i'm talking about the OTHER mouse
Avengers: Endgame had a much stronger opening weekend. Detective Pikachu is still doing very well for something so many people were on the fence about due to the designs.
>blocks your path
I wouldn't really say so. The reviews are pretty mixed with its score being a 63% on Rotton Tomatoes. That alone is enough to turn away some low tier normies. Also, Endgame went back to beating Detective Pikachu after like 13 hours
it's really fucking Great, most the Critics are just people who rather get a Pail of water than collect Pokémon.
I've seen people legitimately try to argue that the Mouse could buy out Pokemon and Nintendo. I don't think they really get how utterly insane that line of thinking is.
>The reviews are pretty mixed with its score being a 63% on Rotton Tomatoes. That alone is enough to turn away some low tier normies
If you didn't already like Pokemon, you wouldn't watch it anyway.
>ummmm..
>meow?
Doesn't Disney already have the TV rights to Pokémon?
>sees how badly the last games have sold (here's a hint they sell worse than fucking Digimon games)
>still think this a chance
Unless Knuckles is in the film and he does the meme, there's no fucking way anyone other than the hardcore furries are going to watch this. This one is a guaranteed flop.
This is an understandable misconception. Nintendo has never had the juggernaut reputation that The Mouse had, and the narrative that Nintendo got their nose bloodied in sever multiple console generations affects peoples thinking in a way that doesn't apply to Disney. Nobody thought Disney was going to die when Titanic came out.
Marvel is bigger than Pokemon. When people compare Pokemon they just compare it to the MCU, they dont look at Marvel as a whole company
They have the rights to air the anime and the movies, the only thing weird is they have the rights to air movie 4-7 regardless because they own Miramax
What they don't have access to is this movie, Pokemon Generations, and Pokemon Origins.
In terms of brand worth I think Pokemon still is on top, only brands close are Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh
> Meowth isn't in the movie
FUCKING 0/10
>Detective Pikachu trailer
>"well the Pokemon look a little weird in realistic-style CGI, this'll take some getting used to, but I'm honestly a little curious to watch this"
>Sonic trailer
>"What the fuck is this retard shit, who's going to watch this garbage"
Not anymore since they sold Miramax.
>they also don't know if they should go near the anime's territory since they think Ash is uncastable
Huh?
>which is fine since they probably want to keep the Game/Anime universe separate
All Pokemon adaptations are different continuities by default. There may be nods and canon-hoppers, but the game is not the show and vice versa. Now there's even a separate animated movie continuity.
We need a Team Rocket film
Pokemon trumps everything just on the basis of the absolutely supernatural amount of merch it sells in Asia.
I'm wondering how they could do a movie with gym battles and stuff like the elite four? Would you feature all 8 battles in one movie or only a select few? And save the elite four stuff for another movie?
They'd probably have to montage a few of the gym battles, but the bigger issue is that there isn't much of an actual story to the gym badge/Pokemon league journey. Even the anime had to spice it up with a bunch of side adventures.
Yeah I guess future movies should focus on other stuff like adventures or looking for a legendary pokemon. Maybe stopping a plot of an evil organisation like team rocket.
I would make it about the actual League itself, where Ash in the anime enters an actual tournament for a prize.
Doesn't have to be Ash as the protag, but it should take that structure instead of trying to replicate the actual "campaign" of the average Pokemon game.
It is so funny how WB shills are trying to make this Yea Forums related.
At least Sonic has comics.
and that's a good thing!
Go full 80s sports movie with it.
Fuck off back to .
inb4
>b-but the mod won't allow me to shitpost there because he thinks it's Yea Forums material
Sucks to be you then. In that case is the only relevant board. Enjoy the cuck agendapushing spam.
Pokemon does not have it's roots in western comics or cartoons, therefore it's not Yea Forums.
>they have 3 Sequels/Spinoffs/Same-Universe Films in Development: Detective Pikachu 2, a Spinoff about Mewtwo, a Film based off Gen 1. it's already been kicking Avengers: Endgame's ass since Thursday.
It have more sepuels?
>the "hair" on mr mime isn't stylized hair at all, but weird, fleshy growths
who greenlit this
every pokemon besides pikachu looks like shit
>Marvel is bigger than Pokemon
it's not even close to being close. The §15.60 profit comic sales have turned in the last decade don't even make a dent
>The §15.60 profit comic sales have turned in the last decade
Before we go further, are we using special autist math here (a Yea Forums staple) or selectively picking and choosing what media qualify?
*disney is bigger than pokemon
Pokemon is the most profitable brand (don't know fucking how) disney owns multiple profitable brands. Disney could never buy or merge with Nintendo (yet, but the mouse proved itself of above the law ages ago)
>(don't know fucking how)
Merchandising in Asia.
I would need to see numbers before I would be willing to entertain the idea that the Pokemon franchise as a whole has generated more money than the Marvel franchise as a whole.
I'm talking Marvel comics, Marvel animation, Marvel television shows, Marvel movies, Marvel syndication of said movies, Marvel video games, and Marvel merchandising of all of the above, across decades.
Not comparing Marvel comics to Pokemon as a whole, or Pokemon's most lucrative aspects.
A mall near me (and I live in a pissant town) has a Disney store just as full of that sort of shit.
Where are these places
and why am I not there?
Why not redirect them to the fucking Pokémon board?
Ok, even looking at that, you realize that Spider-Man and the MCU (((alone))) account for 2/3rds of Pokemon's total worth, right?
The policebot just wants everything even mildly unrelated to his MCU circlejerks to suffer horribly.
Which tells me that X-Men, Spider-Man and the MCU are probably worth more than all of the Pokemon Empire.
If I wanted to listen to someone delusionally overestimating the popularity of something, I have native DCfriends, I don't need weebs from /vp/
My bad, I always assumed the V in /vp/ meant the board was specifically for the Videogames. Turns out the board is actually for all things pokemon.
>mindless Mousedrone legitimately thinks his shit is in any way more popular than Pokemon
Hilarious.
Pokemon is the original quarantined cancer that mlp is a shadow of.
Hey Yea Forums, how are the boomers handling the movie
Yes. They've been greenlit following the movie succeeding beyond expectations.
All future plans have been canceled now that it bombed
Now fuck off back to Yea Forums where you can curse other movies to box office failure
You link me to a page that shows that Pokemon as a whole, the whole shebang has generated 90 billion. That's everything, card games, vidya, animation, over 23 years.
>en.wikipedia.org
The MCU itself, not the Fox movies, not Sony's Spider-Man, just the MCU movies and their merchandise/syndication is 32 billion, over a third of that, in 10 years.
Spider-Man adds 27 billion, minus the billion or so from Homecoming that is counted in the MCU (let's be generous and say 2 billion from total merchandise/syndication.
You're at 57 billion already without the other movies, any of the television shows or animation, or any of the merchandise or comics that isn't specifically the MCU or Spider-Man.
That's still a shitload of stuff.
We really need a capeshit quarantine board. We’re getting news this weekend that we’re getting Bugs Bunny backand it’s still all marvel shitposts. Capeshit is worse than ponies now. At least ponies didn’t have the fucking mods in their pocket shilling for them.
>that we’re getting Bugs Bunny back
First. who is "we", and when haven't WB tried shilling Bugs periodically?
The tv shows are all cancelled. The comics don’t generate even a billion by themselves. Nobody has ever cared about or made huge money from Marvel cartoons.
We, the people who like comics and cartoons and not just Yea Forums asswipes shitting up the wrong board.
And WB half-assed anything Looney Tunes since AT LEAST Back in Action. Maybe Space Jam.
>All future plans have been canceled now that it bombed
Never happened, Mousedrone.
You understand that the 90 billion for Pokemon isn't PER year, right?
'And that Marvel has been selling comics for ages, so even at sub-1 billion per year it turns into a pretty massive number.
I think you are confused.
And you are certain they won't half-ass this?
Because I have doubts.
You understand comics are a ghetto industry that pretty much never made big money, right? I doubt every comic ever sold would total 10 billion.
Your doubts are valid. What doesn’t make since is one Bugs thread and eighty idiots posting Thumbhead over and over.
>Tfw wanted to love this movie so bad, and everything was done right but the plot and emotional execution were so lacking at times it kept me from doing so
DP is definitely one of the best video game adaptations right now, but there’s big things that keep it from being a truly great film.
I think you are someone whos not terribly good with numbers, and has trouble interpreting pretty straightforward wikepedia pages.
The only people who don't understand the pokemon craze are either people who didn't play the game or boomers who hate it with a burning passion
I think Disney’s gonna fire you if you don’t get better at highjacking this thread, whore.
I enjoyed this film more then any other movie this year so far, and I’m not even a Pokémon fag.
Psyduck was best boy
I must say the idea of collection itself that Pokemon sparked is fucking genious
>Torterra
No
>it's really fucking Great
it's serviceable, with all the effort CLEARLY going into the pokes/world design, which is stellar, action is decent.
everything else is the usual hollywood tripe
We are using hyperboles
>even then it would be more work than Avengers, they also don't know if they should go near the anime's territory since they think Ash is uncastable
I think is more like they can't really touch since, despite the memes, his face is one of the most iconic humans in the franchise and they still need the anime for advertesiment.
Compare that to a literal who like Tim, the manga characters that aren't as half know as Ash even when all of them are together and the PCs that don't really have a personality beyond being self-inserts. Besides, can you imagine the shitstorm if they casted a black, mexican or white kid when Ash is obviously asian?
X men +the Hulk might be a couple billion more.
All other Marvel comics are literally who's. You have to be extremely delusional to think otherwise.
To be fair, they don't really need the others since the main anime is already huge, I wonder if they were planning something when they bought the rights to air the anime, the Mouse doesn't bother with things that don't leave them money.
>Detective Pikachu 2
>a Spinoff about Mewtwo
>a Film based off Gen 1
gross
Aight user, explain how you got to that conclusion
This movie does the best job of establishing a 'universe' since Iron Man 1.
Old man Ryan Reynolds still didn't look old enough to be a father, desu
Outside of that, the movie was fun. I was surprised by how faithful it was to the game's story beats. But know I wonder how they can make a sequel with Reynolds in his own body again
The ditto twist actually got me.
RIP Mr. Mime.
"Never" must mean something different to you Yea Forums retards
Thise are canonically horns
They're more interested in pursuing the R/B storyline than they are with an actual sequel to this story.
How is that bad?
>We really need a capeshit quarantine board
>but a Pokemon thread on Yea Forums is fine because WB pays my rent
It has literally been only one day
The budget was of 150 millions without counting the marketing, they need, at least, 450 or 500 millions to be as successful as the first Iron Man movie
introduce waifumons next time and this shit defeats Avatar
>tfw no pail of water cinematic universe
>giant oddish pillow
I want one
lol this guy doesn't know math
I dont know which is more cancerous
Kikeloving Marvel or Furfag Pokemon
Furfag Pokemon wont be shoved in your face
>Furfag Pokemon wont be shoved in your face
>yet they are shilled in every board
Umh. What a weird marketing move on WB's part.
>endgame comes out on top still
>becomes the third biggest domestic box office of all time
>is already nearing 2.5 billion dollars
ehrmm OP kys
It's been an entire weekend dumbass
>performing less than a movie on his third week
lol, bangladesh shills will have to work harder
at least wait until the supposed redesign is up, then do what you want.
spoilers: its still not gonna be good enough.
Mousedrones don't actually habe the ability to explain themselves. They're just sockpuppets for Disney.
What's more impressive is how strong Captain Marvel's legs are.
>character has movie before Endgame
>character appears in Endgame, at the beginning and at the final battle
>people who haven't seen her movie go and see her movie since it's still playing in theaters
wow what a surprise
Legendary doesn't hire shills, not for this and not for godzilla, and apparently it was a mistake.
Slacking was the best model
>Psyduck was best boy
That appear to be the opinion of everyone who isnt into pokemon, i'm glad since psyduk wwas always the best pokemon
It's been in theaters for ~9 weeks, anyone who wanted/needed to see it has already seen it. It has a massive amount of repeat viewings.
The fuck is Shazam?
so people did review bomb it on RT, otherwise why would people still be seeing it?
I saw a camrip before Endgame came out, and it wasn't THAT bad, it was just an average marvel movie, one of those ones that you forget that they exist
What makes the movie for me was Sam Jackson and the Skrulls, they don't deserve to get review bombed like that
He was too good for this world.
Gone
That's what happens when a movie bombs dipshit
How bad was the movie?
>so people did review bomb it on RT
was this even up to question? they started giving bad reviews before the first trailer even came out
that's what you get for acting too cocky when Endgame was just around the corner, DC friend
It's actually pretty decent. Not 10/10, but I'd give it a low 8. If you can appreciate some cornball shit towards the end and overuse of flashbacks (it's a detective story so it didn't really bother me) then you'll probably enjoy it. You'll get more out of it if you know anything about Pokemon beforehand though.
I do. Is the story any decent?
It's not. It needed a bolder director to make the neo-noir and Ashnime influences more than a set dressing for a conventional family movie, but it's an alright matinée that does Pokémon and their world justice (which is an achievement, because video games are very far from having the same credibility in Hollywood as capes - seriously, having a faithful and accurate Pokémon world in a studio tentpole is as wild in concept as Guardians of the Galaxy was five years ago).
Same place Hellboy is
Ehh...it's serviceable. Evil guy has a plot they need to solve and stop. It's a kid's movie through and through in that regard, it's the chemistry between Tim and Pikachu that's the highlight.
I thought he was just a shitty actor from Jurassic Park?
He's not half bad in DP since he plays the straight man. He must have taken some more classes between that film and this one.
Justice Smith is probably among the best things of the movie
