Unironically, it had soul.
I dunno man. Shazam felt like a better Superhero movie to me, a great mixture of whimsical humor mixed with some horror and wasn’t as reliant on cgi like Aquaman was.
The people involved are genuine.
Man how do you make a good superhero movie without CGI? The whole appeal of superheroes is that they have magic powers and lasers and shit. Without that it's just a bunch of dudes running around in spandex.
Shazam is alright but Aquaman is more grand and cool in scale.
Because you're gay
It also wasn't weighted down by having to be an origin movie and told a good, complete story that stood on its own, like the original Star Wars, instead of hamfisting in a bunch of shit to set up for sequels so that when you finish the movie you don't feel like "Oh great, now I have to wait two years for the REAL movie."
>not liking Mera
Fuck off faggot
Just so long as it’s not over done it’s fine, the last 20 minutes of Aquaman is like 75% cgi, might as well just make it an animated movie at that point.
That’s a pretty good argument, but I can’t agree with you, I feel like how Shazam was very small scale compared to every other DCEU movie thus far was very enjoyable and made me appreciate the hero more than the world that he’s supposed to exists in.
Damn, that's an excellent point, I'd forgotten that. Origin stories can really slow down the pace of a film.
Blessed redheads
>the last 20 minutes of Aquaman is like 75% cgi, might as well just make it an animated movie at that point.
I disagree, the final battle is fucking one of the best I've ever seen, and that kiss in the middle of the fight actually works.
Yes we will agree to disagree on Shazam, I liked it too though.
Uhhh... I thought this movie was just really corny. It worked for the first 20min... not bad tho but definitely not the best
What Superhero film would you rank above it?
>How did this turn out to be the best superhero movie of the last ten years?
It didn't, it was only slightly above average, which just makes it the best DC movie ever
On the contrary the first 20 minutes were the weakest part and then it improved significantly from there.
So what superhero films you rank above it?
Easily The Winter Soldier, Infinity War... Aquaman is still the best DCCU movie and it works because Momoa is charismatic as fuck and is a great casting for Aquaman but nothing much caugh my attention except the coolio Black Manta and the already mentioned Aquaman
Yeah I figured as much, personally I did not like Winter Soldier or Infinity War, I'd rank Blade above both those films.
Blade does not have any good female characters like Black Widow unfortunately so I cannot give it the nod.
On the bright side, Aquaman got one of the most comic-faithful costumes in the whole superhero genre in movies. It's also very colorful so thanks for not doing that Snyder shit of darkening everything to appear cool and badass on this movie.
I usually refrain from comparing, but IW ending setpiece on Wakanda was pretty small potatoes to Aquaman absolute grandness. I think that may have influenced Endgame's final battle and with good reason.
Basically every MCU film with the possible exceptions of IM2 or Thor 2
It's what I thought, honestly Marvel films are way different in tone to DC films and they cater to different audiences. I really don't like most MCU films, DC has shitt films too but Marvel's best feel generic to me while DC's best is more unique to me.
Out of all the MCU films, I think Dr. Strange is the better of the Marvel lot while Watchmen is better than all MCU films for me.
To each their own.
Doctor Strange is in my top 5 MCU films, Watchmen is pretentious shit
Interesting.
Dr. Strange surprisingly has its moments but its still not better than Watchmen.
The only good character in Watchmen is Ozymandias, which is why he easily wins
Everyone else loses because they're either too busy brooding, or huffing the farts of the Nixon administration's right-wing paranoia like Rorschach is
Movie was junk. Incredibly boring with shitty CGI. At least it was consistent though. Wonder Woman is oretty good than just has an awful final act
Yeah, outside of some nice fights in Winter Soldier, Civil War and Ant Man2, Marvel's giant CGI setpieces at the end are pretty underwhelming. And these have gotten worse as time has passed on, just horrible CGI-messes with no substance. Aquaman's was a welcome change of pace, notice that in Endgame even the sky darkens and it feels as if they are somewhere completely different. Plus the movie adds small character moments in the background of the fight.
Because it felt comic booky.
Shazam is a better movie but like not a better superhero/comic movie?
Checked em
No, I’d say Shazam was a better Superhero movie, it was a story about Billy gaining power and becoming a hero, in Aquaman Arthur is already a hero known enough so that random dudes in a bar want to get selfies with him and news reports are even called him “The Aquaman”, the journey of the movie isn’t about Arthur becoming a hero, but instead becoming a king, which feels far less super hero’y.
Dr. Manhattan shits all over Strange, Dr. Strange turns into a comedy/joke in the last boss fight.
Is Whis cumming
>gets brutally murdered in timeloops over and over again
>comedy/joke
Yes, that the joke.
The intent was humour and people laughed at how pathetic Dormammu has been defeated.
Mads Mikkelsen put up more of a fight than he did.
>Doctor Strange creatively bends the rules to solve an otherwise unwinnable encounter without violence
vs.
>Flawless Aryan man perfectly manipulates an entire super-group of heroes, including a godlike being, while he kills millions of people for his own delusional ends
You're a fucking idiot
Aquaman's final battle reminded me of the prequel trilogy. Which is a good thing, mind you. It's just so detailed and action packed. I'm glad WB understood that people actually like that, kind of thing, unlike Disney with the ST.
Aquaman is not even the best DCEU movie and is not even close to be the best DC movie.
There is no way it is worse than Hulk,Thor 1 and the epic shitshow that was Iron Man 3.
Best super hero movie,no
Best DC movie,up there with Wonder woman.
There s at least 10 MCU movies before it.
>huffing the farts of the Nixon administration's right-wing paranoia like Rorschach is
Huh? I thought Watchmen was anti-Nixon.
Thor 1 is great and IM3 had a great twist
No you are, for thinking that it is a conclusive way to wrap up Strange's main villain in a limited amount of time, no pun intended, after Mads specifically builds and hypes him up throughout the film.
You can say that it subverted my expectations and hated it for doing so.
>Huh? I thought Watchmen was anti-Nixon.
Yeah, which is why Rorschach is a moron for supporting him
I hated*
When does he express support for Nixon?
>No you are, for thinking that it is a conclusive way to wrap up Strange's main villain in a limited amount of time, no pun intended, after Mads specifically builds and hypes him up throughout the film.
And in doing so, inadvertently gives Strange an idea on how to beat him
Rorschach is a right-wing extremist, so he either supports Nixon or thinks Nixon is too far left for him
>Thor 1 is great
no
>IM3 had a great twist
>instead of the final villain being a terrorist it was actually a random fanboy who got butthurt over Tony not abandoning his hot date to talk alone with complete strange like him, what result on the nerd wanting to take over the world and murdering countless innocents.
IM3 shitty twist was a rip off of the already silly twist fron incredibles 1, it was retarded and so are you for thinking it wans't.
What's right wing about him? Genuinely all I remember about Rorschach is the part where he eats beans, the dead dogs, the part where he beats up some guys in prison, DO IT, and the blue haired girl from Haruhi.
It turned into comedy user, like it all you want but it's a joke.
New Frontiersman
It was really middle of the road. Glossy chinabait art direction with a generic Hero's Journey plotline.
It wasn't bad but the fact that you're showing it as an the best of the best shows how bankrupt capeshit is.
>it looks good
>IT MUST BE CHINESE
>FUCKING CHINESE MAKING THINGS LOOK GOOD
This it wasn't even the best dc movie of the last 10 years
So he reads right-wing propaganda. So what? I read Fox News because it's important to know what my enemy is up to. Doesn't mean I agree with it.
>good
If you consider sugary overshined shit that looks borderline like a fucking Syfy channel movie good and not soulless
I wouldn't call it the best, but it certainly does a few things right. I think the best compliment I can give Aquaman is taking the material seriously. The film has multiple chances to stop everything, have Arthur look at the audience to say "Wow this is stupid", and yet never does. That's commendable in my book. Too often do adaptations feel embarrassed of what they're doing, and feel the need to wink/roll there eyes in a meta self aware way to make insecure "fans" validate watching it. Kind of like how Jessica Jones acts like a complete cunt in Defenders making jabs at "The Hand"
Call me OCEAN MASTER!
I particularly enjoyed that they had an octopus playing the drums and they barely even drew attention to it. AN OCTOPUS PLAYING THE DRUMS. And it's a blink and you'll miss it moment.
Do you like Trump?
Also, now that Jason Momoa has shaved his beard, what are the chances we can get an even more faithful Aquaman with a clean face and blonde hair?
It's played straight.
I don't think anyone with a brain does.
Yeah they played that straight. I don't want to delve into company war nonsense, but if it were a Marvel Studios movie, that scene would probably play out like the Taserface scene from GotG2
In the narrative itself its played straight but you can tell the actors were consciously hamming it up, which is honestly one of the things I liked about it. It had a lot of goofy shit but it never had to resort to dumbass quips or staring into the camera or shit to let you know and just let you enjoy it shamelessly.
I agree, its part of what make Aquaman work.
Well to be fair the name had previous setup, established in the first act that "Ocean Master" is the title given to the one given command of every kingdom's military force
The idea that this 6/10 at best, tonal mess of a movie is the best at anything is hilarious. Shazam alone runs miles around it and it's just okay.
Yes, and I loved it.
It's one of those scenes that just clicked for me.
youtube.com
Not really since Loki saying I'M A GOD was way more silly and no one cared.
To be frank, even the opening scene where the other kids make fun of him and then the sea creatures back him up is really well done, it brought a tear to my eye with how much respect they gave Aquabro, I never thought I'd ever see Aquaman get that much respect in my lifetime.
How was it a "tonal mess"? The tone was very consistent.
A simple film with an epic scale.
It's all I could ever ask for in an Aquaman film and I got it.
It definitely filled the gap of what the Thor films was sorely missing for me,
Indeed.
>RIIISE ATLANTIIIIIIIIIIIISSSS
Just something about that line that’s amazing.
I dunno, personally I think Aquaman was in no real danger, didn't have to worry about loss.
I loved that they duked it out Metal Gear Solid-style atop that submarine. A highlight for me.
Why did the tridents make lightsaber noises?
It didn't.
It didn't NOT.
aquaman looks like irategamer in that pic
Official superhero movie rankings:
Spider-man 2(Raimi) > Shazam > Iron-man > *
It was trash. Stop shitposting wan
I wouldn't say best superhero movie but probably one of my favorites. It was as good as it was because:
>actual passion poured into it
>visuals were mostly very good
>movie was more or less comic book accurate from a writing point of view
>costume, set design, and overall art direction were all fucking amazing and accurate to the source material
>characters were all likable
>music was fantastic
>action scenes were all very well-done, well-shot, and well-choreographed
>scale during the final battle was immense
I'd say this, BP, IW, and Endgame were easily some of the best cape movies of the last 5 years.
Ladderbro is a retard and you have shit taste
Did you guys already forget spiderverse ?
How do you do a giant underwater battle without most of it being CGI? Anyway, the third act was great and it's what Thor Ragnarok should have been.
