We're getting second because first one looks like a Swamp Man-Elephant Thing.

swamp thing
he looks fucking awesome when constantine feeds him a branch from a tree from the garden of eden

Swamp thing. Hes more interesting

The Thing

Man-Thing in the 70's, Swamp Thing from the 80's on.

Their father, the heap.

Both

GREENED

What? Those are different characters, casual.

swampie, no contest

pic?

Man-thing has some cool books but Swamp is objectively superior

I like both. they both have interesting gimmicks.

Man-thing's cuter tho

Man thing is cooler in concept, but is less explored

So Swamp

Is there any good Man-Thing run outside of Gerber?

The one written by Alan Moore.

Swamp Thing, easily.

They look similar but it's not even all that close to a fair contest. Swampy takes it hard

Is Gerber's Man-Thing worth picking up?

Attached: SwampThing HELLBLAZER #193.jpg (1600x2460, 526K)

It's okay...

Would Swamp Thing and Man Thing be friends?

>less explored
I wish marvel would do something Man-thing.

>And that's how i lost my virginity...what about you
>*grunt* *grunt* *grunt w/punchline*
>heh,Nice.

No, you don't. Last time they did something with Man-Thing was awful.

>Man-thing has some cool books but Swamp is objectively superior

I've seen him last time in Thunderbolts where Manthing was mostly background noise (Except for that second Hyprion felt fear, that was awesome).

I've read the first few Moore Swampy books and dug them. But I don't know anything about ManTHing. What's his deal?

Swamp Thing is better, but a lot of the concepts Moore would use in his ST run were done before in Gerber's Man-Thing run; the "Green" basically functions the same way storywise as Man-Thing's Nexus of All Realities, the idea that the earth chose an elemental champion for itself, and implying that the hero wasn't actually transformed by his own serum (although Moore's take was far more radical of course). Sunderland's characterization in 'Anatomy Lesson' was also a lot more like Man-Thing's villain F.A. Schist than how Sunderland had been portrayed by Pasko. Gerber also had plans to corrupt Man-Thing supporting character Richard Rory and have him become abusive towards his love interest Ruth, but Rory gradually became Gerber's self-insert and stayed a good guy. Moore on the other hand, had Dennis Barclay (Swampy's sidekick in Pasko's run) become an abusive lout to Liz Tremayne, so did Matt Cable to Abby.

Both Man-Thing and Swamp Thing derive from previous characters (It, The Heap, Solomon Grundy, The Glob), but the similarities are a little too big to be a coincidence. Doesn't mean Gerber was better than Moore, but we all have influences.

>giant green planty-plant things
So when did this concept start?

Whatever knows fear burns at his touch. Originally he had (gradually diminishing) human intelligence, but before long became a near-mindless animal who is mostly a passive character until he senses fear. The stories usually revolve around villains or supporting characters with Man-Thing as an observer. Some writers portray him as a gentle giant who conveniently only senses the fear of bad guys, other times his drive to burn away what knows fear causes him to menace everyone.

Gerber's run gets a little too crazy with the magic/sword & sorcery stuff during the Thog arc, but the stand-alone stories are some of the best horror comics of the 70s.

Despite barely having a mind, Man-thing usually gravitates towards good guys. So yes

He wouldn't be much of a conversationalist though.

Absolutely. I'd say it's better than every Swamp Thing run not written by Moore.

Theodore Sturgeon's short story "It".

Quality Comic's Chic Carter fought a swamp monster in Police Comics #11, but that had a Scooby Doo ending. After that, there was The Heap and Solomon Grundy, who were real.

My friend swears to me that Man thing has some really fucking good stories but everything I've read has been pretty meh so i'm gonna have to go with my nigga Swampy

What an odd choice for a kid's record. I had the Spider-Man/Man-Wolf one, it was interesting how they seemed to care more about Man-Wolf than Spidey himself.

A friend possibly asked me to Man-Thing all over this thread.
Alas, I am a lazy boi.
Regardless, here's an image dump of wacky Manny shit I made a while back to show other friends:

That "run" is my favorite thing Marvel did with Man-Thing. Of course it got prematurely shitcanned.

Man-Thing is more fun. Swamp Thing is often just edgy.

Allegedly they still have the final 2 issues in a drawer somewhere. Unreleased.
If he ever gets a show-or-movie, maybe they'll publish a TPB. Shit's happened before. 90s Ghost Rider's final issue got publsihed like 15 years later.

shit. belated disclaimer:
that scrteencap's a summary of them. Shoulda spoilered it.

Only Gerber knew how to write him.

Eh. That's more Howard's tagline.

Even so, it was supposed to be a full length run...

>they will never reprint What The
WHY

I'm convinced it was ironic shitposting DESU
It was SO BAD that it HAD to be on purpose. FFS Stine's own OC backup features were like Stephen fucking King in comparison.
Motherfucker knew he couldn't traditionally SCARE jaded manchild comicfags, so he went for abstract meta horror. By taking the biggest fattest longest Taco Bell shit on our precious continuity he could muster.
TBF I kinda respect the balls on him for that... it's motherfucking CATES who gets my ire for acknowledging it as mainline canon.

Where is the rest?

>it's motherfucking CATES who gets my ire for acknowledging it as mainline canon.

How? Where?

>that quality burn from Swampy
That's what makes him the top motherfucker.

F
In What The #6 I'd presume :^)
Didn't save 'em, sorry

oop w8, I got this one that goes in the middle somewhere
IDFK man I saved them back before I realized filenames should probably have continuity

He could be referring to the Thunderbolt run.

He learned to speak there too.

>again
Also this was JUST after the mini, sorry senpai. Tho hey that's a no-prize waiting to happen. Maybe he worded it like that on purpose?

I like both but Swamp Thing has better stories and he works well as a protagonist.

Man-Thing works better as a supporting character, team character, or background character, he's cute though.

Which one had the Sci-fi channel movie?

What's most frustrating about that movie is the insincedre sprinklings of Manny lore.
Like motherfucker if you're gonna SAY "the Nexus of All Realities" fucking USE it, I coulda accepted making a generic ass swamp monster movie otherwise.

Attached: Quasar-50-03.jpg (1650x1220, 816K)

He could just mean "again" as in, "He regained his speech like he did when he was Ted Salis."

He turned back into Teddy a couple times before. Not that big a stretch

SHPEAK OB THA DEVUL

I respect your optimism.
But why would Wong even bother mentioning any of those prior times? Why would Cates write it IN?
He's talking about the latest Man-Thing news people may've heard of, and pre-empting the casual question readers may've asked.
Manny's had lotsa appearances since Thunderbolts, all mute. FFS I'm fairly sure Wong has interacted with his dumb ass IN the time gap you're proposing.

Just flipped through that run, and I still have to disagree.

Man-Thing only talks in the first issue in Stine's run. At the time, he's in a reality where the Marvel movies are real. Not only does that make me consider that Stine's run doesn't take place in 616, it also makes it impossible for Wong to have known Man-thing could talk for that time.

For Wong to know that, he would also have to know that he is a fictional character.

>If he ever gets a show-or-movie

He did get a movie.

It wasn't good, but I thought that the comic book prequel to it was actually okay.

Swamp Man.

>Ivy tries to control Swamp Thing
>Oops
>Guess I tried to drink the ocean

Whatever happened to "All who know fear burn at the touch of Man-Thing'?

Hollywood.

Probably whenever people decided to start living near swamps.

Couldn't Swampy just converse with him through the Green?

He doesn't understand words. Just emotions.

He doesn't even know he's a plant

Whoever feels love, shall burn at the touch of the Man-Thing... with PASSION!

Oh, god. This is adorable. Where can I get one?

So... you're saying Stine-Thing was a poorly-thought out shitshow that doesn't FIT?
Really?
:O

This is when they fight the Brujeria, right?

Why are they always so rude to man-thing? He has done nothing wrong.

There was an unpublished Vertigo Swamp Thing one-off story (IIRC planned as an annual circa 1995) about Ivy controlling Swamp Thing, but not by her powers but through blackmail.

Ivy fucked Alec Holland while he was alive and kept threatening to out their one night stand to his wife, forcing Alec to be a criminal, constantly stealing chemicals and tech and money from the various labs he worked at for Ivy.

When Alec died and became Swamp Thing, she though he was dead. Years later, in a caper where she was stealing an artifact that would turn her into an elemental being, she fought Swamp Thing and he was super fucking pissed off at how Ivy made Alec do evil for her.

He let her use the stick and become an elemental being; then used his superior elemental power as a member of the Green, to turn Ivy into a tree and trapped in an "I have no mouth but must scream" hell state for the rest of her life.

The story never got published, because Vertigo editorial intended the story to be the final Poison Ivy story and that Batman editorial would not be allowed to revisit it and restore Ivy to normal for future use. When told this, Batman editorial refused to let the story be published since they only agreed to let Vertigo use Ivy on the condition that the ending would be reversed first chance Batman editorial could.

The incident, plus Ron Marz using John Constantine and Swamp Thing in Hal Jordan's funeral issue in Green Lantern with "asking for permission" from Vertigo editorial, led to Vertigo refusing to let ANYONE use any Vertigo character in a non-Vertigo book. Including characters who were originally normal DC characters like Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and Shade the Changing Man.

Nope. This is mid-00s Hellblazer.

What's the name of this fetish?

TIME TO get to IT!

I'm gonna go with "absorption vore". There's quarter million results on google for that, so I'm guessing it's a thing.

It doesn't seem like something SW or Alec would do.

Well, that got kinky very fast. UNZIPS DICK

Attached: 069.jpg (696x1125, 904K)

I don't see how that clears it.

The case they're talking about has to do with an ongoing story that was printed in Amazing Spider-Man.

Stine's book was a limited series that wasn't connected to anything. I'm sure it's canon in some other part of the Marvel multiverse, but it's not a part of 616. Otherwise, every miniseries and video game would be considered canon.

And if you're going to tell me that the Attack on Titan one-shot was canon, you've got another thing coming.

Swamp Thing is the homey
