Has Meta ever been outright possessed? He's been incredibly zealous in the name of strength sure, and brainwashed many times, but straight possessed?

The Halberd is assumed to be an invading alien force and gets attacked by the Justice League. They destroy it while fighting Meta Knight, but the battle inadvertently releases the eldritch horror he was working to contain, so they all team up to destroy it.
Because he's a borb and too much of a loner to want to stay on Earth, he goes off to have space adventures afterwards.
Are there any major sword users in DC besides sometimes Wonder Woman? There's no one to really form a cool rivalry with.

He kind of gets possessed in star allies, but more than being controlled by some baddie the Jamba Heart makes him goes bonkers

Not really anyone that comes to mind. Some guys like Batman or Damian have swords, but they don't spec into them. And the majority can't fuck off from Earth as easily as Meta Knight can.
I guess he becomes a wandering knight occasionally aiding and fighting the GL's on his journey, if he decides to leave for space.

He would do decently the little guy is really strong, but would he really care about the main problems in the DCU? I don’t really understand his goals, I guess he oppose evil, but sometimes he is kind of battle obsessed and can be quite radical like in revenge of Meta knight

Meta is on the side of good, but he can be extremely fanatical about it. His original plan was to essentially militarize Popstar in order to oppose threats, but Kirby smacked that out of him. Nowadays, he mostly acts in its defense with no ulterior motive, but he still has blood knight tendencies even so.
He probably wouldn't take to DC's "no killing" rule for many of its villains, and would massacre anyone who dared to try and fuck with him.
