Why, I do believe it's time for Silver Age comics!

Why, I do believe it's time for Silver Age comics!

But enough about me, what've you got planned for the weekend?

Attached: ASM005_01.jpg (1034x1550, 514K)

Was this Doom ever retconned into being a Doombot?

It's a Marvel day today, so we've got plenty of Kirby and Ditko. I meant to start a thread yesterday with some Charlton and Gold Key, but the places I get those comics from are being stupid, so I'll just post those next time I'm doing non-Big Two stuff.

As for the weekend, I've actually got quite a bit going on so there may not be as much New Eagle as any of us would like. Don't worry, that one nostalgic user, we'll get to 1988 soon. I promise.

Attached: ASM005_02.jpg (1000x1489, 336K)

Probably. It's what they've done with every other time Doom lost outright.

Peter is an idiot, nobody in a thousand years would ever suspect him of being Spider-Man, all talking shit about him does is make even less popular with his peers than he already is.

Funny, if they didn't read this issue, FF readers wouldn't know how Doom cheated death that time.

It's weird, reading old Doctor Doom stories before him being King of Latveria had been established.

This is one of Ditko's first truly masterful Spidey action sequences. From the great Dial B for Blog write-up series on the Ditko run:

>As far as I'm concerned, you could take the page BELOW, frame it, and hang it in any art gallery. It's is a masterpiece of design. Each panel stands on its own, but also works together with the other panels in its row, as well as the rest of the panels on the page.

>We start with a three-panel sequence. Doom's power-blasts lead the eye from panel one to two, and two to three. The wrist-motion begun in panel two results in the fist seen in panel three. Intertwining strands of "web" form a "web ball."

>Spidey tosses the ball at doom, following the trajectory of our eyes as we move down to the second tier of panels. Our eyes land on Doom's webbed hand, just as -- PLOP! -- Spidey's web ball does the same. Then Doom turns, pulling our eyes along with him. We're drawn to the next panel by a fusillade of web balls.

>Then, as our eyes move to the THIRD tier of panels, Spidey, in a sudden up-angle shot, senses danger up above. Not surprising, because Dr. Doom really is above him (in the second tier of panels).

>The final two panels act as a mini-animation sequence. In the middle panel, we see Spidey catch the ice, in the last panel, we see him escape it. Then the thrust of Spidey's ice-catcher propels our eyes upward, to the start of the next page.

>Magneto
>Earth's most powerful super-villain!!
More powerful than Doctor Doom? Really.

This will never catch on, Marvel is really losing its touch.

>Maybe he was Doctor Doom himself!
Oh god, worst part is that this isn't just a throwaway line, Stan seriously tried to make this a thing later on.

Sometimes comics were weird about that sort of detail, although it was usually more for the US President. I think it's so things don't get dated if the story is reprinted I mean, Kruschev WAS replaced by Kosygin a year later.

Thanks for this OP

I grew up reading Silver Age reprints of Ditko's Spidey, Iron Man, Daredevil, Avengers, X-Men and Captain America so this is my shit. I'm happy I had them when most of my friends had Ultimate Spider-Man and Batman: Hush. I wish I had F4 and Thor too. I went back and got all of Kirby's F4 years later but I still have never read his Thor.

Vanko was truly a true believer in the Communist Cause.

> I still have never read his Thor.
Well, Kirby wouldn't become the artist for Thor proper for a year or so after this, so just stay patient.

You're entitled to your opinion, bub

I miss panels like the upper left in modern comics, where it shows the hero training, or working on their gadgets.

Ah Doom as calculating as ever, its a good thing Spidey has a strong sense of justice (coupled with his tendency work solo).

I also I like how there's a progression with spider man, with him looking like a slightly athletic teen in high school, to looking absolutely swole as an adult in college...

He was a bit neurotic in high school, that coupled with his shitty socialization skills at the time, usually causes him to fuck up and distance his peers further away from him. Its good thing he grew out that for the most part once he graduated...

The upper right panel pretty much describes teen peter to a t. a bit of a selfish asshole, but ultimately always does the right thing in the end...

Ah yes back when Spider Man was FAR more versatile with his web, and he fought far more cleverly. I never really found Spidey doing things like this absurd due to the fact that is noted early on that he could shoot out his web in 3 different thicknesses. Obviously masterful mixing of thick and thin web could allow for building pillars(interweaving thick and thin web), or even creating web balls (thick web for the center, and thin webs on the edges). Sadly these things get written out for being to "silly" or "situational"... I'll always see them as a testament to Peter's genius and quick thinking.

I second this, Steve was quite the genius wasn't he.

Gotta love how Doom hardly ever gets down right beaten, its always just the hero holding out long enough to not die.
