It's all about that name recognition. It's a shame that most comic readers will only get comics if it has their favorite character because it kills better titles with lesser known leads and saturates the market with more popular heroes regardless of quality.

Having two Spider-Men was okay at first because they were both in separate universes.

Then Marvel ruined it by brining Miles to 616 aka Earth Prime whatever. It makes having two superheroes both named Spider-Man look redundant and confusing. Not to mention it makes Miles look like he needs to leech off of Peter’s name.
