The first five seasons (where they actually follow the books) are a lot better. After season 6, they started coming up with original material and by season 8, it's gotten pretty bad. They killed two of the three dragons and got rid of the giants and the direwolves and the Night King's undead army because they didn't want to pay for CGI stuff anymore. They seem to be killing characters for shock value now, not because it's logical or because it serves the plot.

None of them killed the series individually, but collectively, well, there's a reason I no longer enthusiastically say 'Spider-Man' when asked who my favorite hero is. I'm not one of those people who thinks the series will never get better (I actually really like Life Story so far), but the damage is going to take a long time to repair. The MCU incarnation isn't helping.
