Sony has a boner for it, to the point they thought it would make 2 billion dollars (and not just reach 2 million in sales, but make 2 billion in profit) just to put Maguire and Garfield on screen together. Now that they have three Spiders to use and already established the viability of Spider-verse with Into the Spider-verse, there's definitely a chance they're desperate for it.
