What a perfectly normal excuse for a street fight.

Heihachi?!
Tyler Russell
This shit is confusing how are they actual characters inside of the game? Juri's a fucking terrorist.
Owen Adams
Thanks for the storytime.
Easton Walker
This was enjoyable. Is it better to just buy the trades (volumes, i guess) now that the comics are coming out every once in awhile?
Grayson Miller
Yeah, too bad they don't have any Capcom ongoing announced
And this one-shots are probably going to be included in one special like they did in SFV: Random Select

this was a fun issue. Perfect for FCBD

Liam Gonzalez
OP thank you so much for this!
Angel Phillips
It's important that this is not a line written by Ken-Siu Chong. That's verbatim from the Sakura Ganbaru manga. Karin officially has a coda on equal with Spider-Man's "With great power there must also come great responsibility" line.
>some defeats are as valuable as victories
It's a long shot but it could be a coda for Street Fighter as a whole.
Hunter Hernandez
I just love Omar's art
Kayden Lopez

Since the beginning.
I always love Ganbaru, Karin's characterization elsewhere has always rustle my jimmies.

Felicia is a famous pop star in the human world, so she's definitely a celebrity.
Morrigan probably shows up at gatherings for rich people, so she might be famous but people don't know she's a succubus.
Ryder Rodriguez
SPECIALLY the Darkstalkers.
Hunter Anderson
I Don't really know much about SF lore, but considering what we've seen of the roster being made of famous wrestlers or martial arts champions I'd say the game uses chibi versions of famous people.
but I have no idea how the Darkstalkers characters are considered in the SF universe, so who knows.
also kinda curious about Chun-Li, isn't she just an interpol cop?
Jaxson Hill
SF and DS are only canon to each other in Udon. That we know of.
Joseph Hernandez
Maybe even they themselves don't know why there is a game about them.
Christopher Thomas
Ken's rich as fuck and most of these games are passion projects/ego strokers for him. He funds them and acts as references for them.
Nolan Russell

Camden Martin

Dominic Evans
Nah, it's not changing a patch, she's just unlocking a secret character.
Aiden Cox
Udon has the license for use.
Connor Green
But she said she got the game patched to include that secret character after they met, which was three weeks ago. I'm still calling shenanigans.

"Makoto beats up everyone" is basically Street Fighter endgame as far as I'm concerned. Udon are cowards and didn't even use her right in the Ibuki mini-series..
Jace Bell
I want to bury my face in her pantyhosed thighs, even if it costs my life.
Asher Howard
too lazy to edit this but you get the point
Dominic Price
After a few of Udon's SF comics these dialogs start to feel completely interchangeable - I used to buy the comics, but after a while it all got too samey for me...
Brandon Cooper
Huh, they used the skull pillar violent Ken borrowed from the Orochi characters from King of Fighters in SNK vs Capcom Chaos...
A neat touch, if kinda unexpected since in this version it's kinda Darkstalkers-induced...
Aiden Sullivan
That's what happens when they use the same writer for every book.
Gabriel Cruz
Not always though, they've used other people for mini-series on occasion though, but it doesn't get much better, like when the guy writing the Ibuki series thought it was a good idea to superimpose a Spiderman narrative (by his own admission, only instead of a secret superhero identify it was a supposed split between being a ninja and a student, which just didn't work well) on that character that didn't really fit it.
Maybe part of the problem is that they think they always have to put fight scenes in these things (and cramming those with bad or repetitive dialog), and that'll usually fall short compared to the games themselves and animation, while other aspects of the series lore and the characters' lives might work better.
The earlier comics were alright, but the charm eventually ran out of gas, and even with newer characters in the games and expanded materials (like the female wrestlers, introduced in an official SF site), things just seem to fall short.

What I'll never understand is why they never did anything for Q, or at the very least G. I remember hearing one of the designers from 3rd strike really disliked him being included, but who gives a fuck, Q has always been popular and Capcom never did jack shit with him.
Also, a Powerstone/SF crossover would be sick.

Morrigan is a straight up evjl murdering monster, killed a innocent human in the using cannon instead of never taking a human life from the multiple continuity she's been in. I hope this means she's portrayed more a villain than a anti hero nowadays.
Brandon King
Most uninteresting bland fanservice niche of the fighters.....she literally has no real characterization but being a bombastic bimbo who wrestles and jobs.
Oliver Watson
It's cute how she takes wrestling so seriously as a proffession and looks up to Zangief
Ayden Powell
Her playstyle is fun and her wrestling shtick cute especially her reverence of Zangief.
James Reed
>she cute, likes wrestling, and fangirls
>safe words for " wanna fuck her in the most generic way a waifu panders to me"
Zangief is more interesting than she is, the fact she needs him to so anything reseming a personality is why she's lame despite being unrealistically hot.
Kayden Smith
Sounds like you've got some sort deep-rooted problem with Mika, sorry to hear that.
Ethan Torres
Needs more Dan.
Brandon Hall
This
Zachary Bennett
She just exists to fap and play a half assed grappler. Her plot is amounting to nothing but scraps of other more interest wrestlers success so she's not growing up on zangiefs and Alex's level anytime soon.
Brandon Howard
Maybe he takes issue with the fact that she has the same voice as Naruto (not just the same VA but same voice) and get's "believe it" flashbacks

Part of her appeal is her childlike wide-eyed wonder at the mere thought of wrestling.

Not gonna lie, I would absolutely love to read a comic based on Sagat. He's always been my favorite SF character.
But Udon's work on Street Fighter is just so dull, so boring and so reliant on basic ass fanservice and nothing else, that I'm pretty sure I'd just be dissappointed.
Street Fighter never had great plotting but it's characters (a good chunk of them at least) definitely deserve better.
Colton Miller
They generally do good art, though
If the Sagat minisseries were confirmed to be drawn by UDON but having an external writer, who would you choose?
Justin Richardson
Morrigan shows up in Alpha 2 in Ken's stage, where they're celebrating his wife's birthday.
Dylan Nelson
I think UDON shelved it because they were having a hard time cramming tits into it.
I love the fanservicey stuff UDON does, but they absolutely use it as a crutch instead of actual storytellling or characterization.
Brayden Taylor
Well first and foremost I'd choose myself if possible because I always wanted to write Street Fighter.
If I had to pick an actual industry pro though, I guess I'd go with Christopher Priest, based mostly on his Black Panther and the good parts of his Deathstroke run I've read. Priest seems to handle villains and how to give them redeemable aspects and agency well, and his Black Panther run is pretty close to how I think Sagat would best be portrayed, presented to the reader as an outside force of a man as noble as it's ruthless. Matt Wagner's take on The Shadow runs close to that too but I don't think he'd fit. If given the proper lore, I think Priest could handle Sagat without defanging him.
I'm extremely fond of Sagat's redemption arc and the role he currently occupies in canon, but I think fans and even the writers tend to forget that he started out as the boss of the series for a reason.
Connor Harris
I take it you've read the Sagat's Alpha World storyline from the Street Fighter Alpha strategy guide? That alone made me a Sagat fan.
Jose Price
>I take it you've read the Sagat's Alpha World storyline from the Street Fighter Alpha strategy guide?
I probably did back when I was really big into Street Fighter to the point of being genuinely really invested in the lore and scoured the plot guides like two times a day, but I don't remember it specifically anymore.
I know what his storyline in the Alpha games is where he starts off with Shadaloo and then throws a fight for Dan and later helps Ryu overcome Bison's control, is that what you are referring to?
Lincoln Johnson
How did you guys feel about this?
Juan Allen
Not really, In the Official Street Fighter Strategy Guide five characters had these detailed character histories called "Alpha's World". Sagat was one of them and the best of them.
I don't have it anymore, but it was about how Sagat started Muay Thai as a teenager because he was beaten in a fight, one that damaged his eye and was ostracized by other kids. He discovered he was a natural at fighting and became the champ as a teenager. His first title defense was against Dan's father, who recognized his weakness (his eye ) and attacked it. Sagat nearly lost because he was worried about protecting his eye. Sagat eventually won when he stopped protecting his eye.
I thought you may have been influenced by that because that Young Sagat picture is literally the scene the story is about.
Sagat's probably the best developed SF character. His story takes so many twists and turns, and they all make him what he is today. That's why it's a shame he's been completely sidelined in the UDON comics.
Wyatt Watson
I thought it was OK, but it felt a little rushed. I also wished they delved more into the Satsui no Hadou and it's lingering effect on Akuma.
Also, in typical UDON fashion, the fight scenes sucked.

I just read it.
Out of all the SF Udon comics I've read this was arguably the only one I felt was actually trying to tell a story and expand on a character instead of just doing dumb fanservice or rehashing plot points from the games. I don't think it did it terribly well but it was decent. It was a 6/10.
I like what it did with Retsu and I really liked the folklore aspect of it, where it's described the kind of life Akuma was setting up for himself. I've never been a fan of how one-dimensionally evil Udon writes Akuma so seeing at least a slight emphasis on him abiding by honor and rules was nice. I would have liked to see more of how Akuma's presence affects the setting.
There were several scenes in it that I think would have worked better if they weren't supposed to be in Akuma's backstory but were good scenes nonetheless.
This page was pretty great too.
I didn't like the emphasis given to Akuma's dad and it fundamentally robs him of mystique if his driving force for harnessing power is to get revenge for his father, or for that matter, for this entirely made up character to overtake Goutetsu and Gouken's roles in his story. Maybe there is an interesting way to explore Akuma's relation to family besides those two, but with how rushed the whole thing was (I almost thought there were some pages missing) and how many other things they could and should have focused on, it really feels like a waste.
Still, it's Udon. It was better than I expected and I didn't expect much. It was allright.
Luis Davis
By why does Karin wear her panties outside her shorts?
Lucas Bailey
Oh yeah, that one. I remember that. I remember reading it alongside that story about a firefighter rescuing a kid who got lost near Akuma's cave and then Akuma preventing a tree from falling on then so he could tell them to fuck off so he could continue his training.
>Sagat's probably the best developed SF character.
It's not a particularly high bar in the first place but I agree. He, Akuma and Dudley are easily my favorite SF characters partially because of this.
>it's a shame he's been completely sidelined in the UDON comics
I'm fine with them not touching Sagat if it means they don't write him poorly. If I want a great comic with Sagat I will always have Ryu Final.
>I also wished they delved more into the Satsui no Hadou and it's lingering effect on Akuma.
Something I always loved about Akuma and that doesn't seem to have been translated well into localizations is that he's never been controlled by the Satsui no Hadou. He twisted himself into a demonic ogre entirely by choice and it was he who took the reins of an all-corrupting dark essence and made it work for him, not the other way around. If I recall even, Goutetsu died with a smile because he realized this.
That's why Oni is a separate character and a what-if, and not Akuma's future. Which is why it kinda upsets me when they localize Akuma's lines into him calling himself evil incarnate or something like that, when that shit just doesn't matter to him and it's usually not what the original dialogue says.
I think the fact that Gouki willingly embraced the legendary sickness that hollows out the strongest fighters and leaves only pure evil in return, and then managed to conquer it by sheer will and training, makes him more interesting than if he turns the way he is because he gets corrupted by his own shadow or something.
Akuma isn't possessed by his demons, he tells them to fuck off and serve him because he is much stronger than they are.
Camden Fisher
So does Felicia.
But those are prooooobably non canon Easter eggs.
Owen James
I always liked the contrast between Akuma and Evil Ryu because of this
Evil Ryu basically exists because Ryu gets obscenely angry and gets consumed by a desire to win, and he constantly finds himself in danger of getting fully taken over
Meanwhile, Akuma is damn near stoic for a someone who willingly uses the Satsui no Hadou, and uses it to push himself to limits beyond normal people

Joshua Foster
That's part of why I generally prefer when Akuma isn't the main villain or even really a villain in a storyline. He lives in a morally grey area that makes him more interesting than if he's just pitch black evilness.
Because if I want pitch black irredeemable evil, I go with M.Bison.
As far as making a 110% evil big bad guy with zero motivation other than doing things for evil's sake, you really cannot top M.Bison. He's the perfect blend of irredeemable menace and cartoonishly fun villainy that is a lot harder to pull off than it seems.
I don't even mind the fact that stories focusing on Shadaloo tend to be boring because it means we get to keep Bison around, and the series really is poorer off without him (even if it doesn't need him all the time, like III)
Elijah Sullivan
Is the best part about SFV just the fanservice-y shoutout costumes?
Christopher Perez
Holy shit they gave Bison an Astaroth costume, I didn't know that.
>the best part about SFV just the fanservice-y shoutout costumes
I haven't bought it and I don't really feel like doing it so I can't comment much on gameplay.
But the game also gave us G, FANG and Rashid and they are easily some of the best SF characters created this decade, maybe ever if I'm feeling generous.
Luke Reed
I’m with you, user. In most comics, she's a pissy kid with money.
In Ganbaru, she’s arrogant, sure, but she speaks with intelligence, and with a grace that's gratifying and intimidating at the same time. She's also perceptive and ruthlessly analytical (though there are enough reminders that she's still also a goofy kid).
And she isn't given control of the company by her father - she outmanoeuvres him and just takes it for herself. Because that's the Kanzuki way.
Ganbaru’s an amazing manga when she's in it.
Christian Flores
These were pretty fun. As someone who's only familiar with SF on a surface level, are these comics worth digging into? A good place to start? I've always liked the world of SF, but I'm not much for fightan games so I never dive deep

So anyway, with the other two Street Fighter comics released this year so far, here's the rundown of all the ways the plot has advanced this year:
-As portrayed in this Sakura Vs. Karin special: Karin now controls Kanzuki Corp. and is officially Sakura's friend now
-As portrayed in the Menat one shot: The spirit of Rose was fused together with Bison's Psycho Power this whole time. With the help of Maggio, the brother of Aprile, one of the Shadaloo Dolls, Menat rips Rose's soul out of Bison. Menat uses some sort of blood magic in Egypt to resurrect Rose; but this opens Menat up to being in danger in the future. This however, also means that Bison's Psycho Power is at 100% strength. Rose, Menat and Maggio meet up with Delta Red.
As portrayed in the Wrestlepalooza one shot: Belger has been working together with Shadaloo to test performance enhancing drugs provided to them via F.A.N.G., and Mayor Haggar has been employing Alex as an undercover operative within the CWA to expose them. When he does, he fights Abigail (employed by Belger as a body guard), and when Belger fights him in a killer wheelchair mech, Haggar steps in to fight him. Haggar is coming out of retirement, Belger is done for, and the board of directors chooses Dan Hibiki to be the new commissioner of the CWA, who promptly brings every known wrestler character in Street Fighter into the organization.
Evan Reed
>HOTO DOGU
Jose Torres
I think it was worth seeing Karin vulnerable for the first time.
Kayden Collins
That sucks about Rose. I don't think any character that's died in a UDON comic has stayed dead.
Plus, Bison's gotten his ass kicked twice now. Setting him up for another ass-kicking in the future is lame.
The Dan stuff is awesome, though. How he hasn't recieived a monthlyy spin-off I don't know.
Thomas Foster
Villains kinda have to get beaten. If they win there's no more story.
Josiah Flores
>I don't think any character that's died in a UDON comic has stayed dead.
Neither did anyone in Street Fighter that isn't Charlie. Did you see Akuma's story in SF V?
Jaxson Butler
Yeah, but Bison hasn't done anything, except brainwash a few fighters and kill Rose. Right now in the UDONverse , he sucks.
Xavier Anderson
That's true. The games have a tough time because once you introduce a character, there's going to be a large contingent of fans who're always going to want that character to return in every subsequent game. It's one of the reason most fighting game rosters are essential preserved in amber. Outside of Tekken 3, I can't think of a fighting game that replaced most of the cast and was successful

Funnily enough, Street Fighter III. Though by 3rd strike they have brought in four classic characters and Hugo from Final Fight, but other than them the rest of the roster were all brand new.

I think what he means by success was the new characters outnumber the originals/returning fighters and a good number of them became fan favorites. compare it to say samurai shodown: warriors rage or toshinden 4 which you're lucky if anyone remembers the game much less who was in it.

How come none of the female fighters have any engaging story character arcs compared to the men. They come off as doll dressed fanservice with simple a to b, chun li for example has little variation from her debut storyline as a fighter and a plot driven heroine, while guy is always underway a new lesson about his martial art and getting more confident along the way with his friends.
Feels like the ladies have less compared to the guys in character investment. Some exceptions exists like canny, but that was pretty much more to do with her character reacting to the guys doing something about bison than her own.
Joshua Bennett
blame canon? if the source material doesn't give them any leeway, going off the rails (even if it's for the sake of character development) is guaranteed to piss people off.
Luke Young
Depends on the character. Like really whats the driving motivation behind M. Bison, Zangief, or Hugo? Punch shit for money, wrestle for russia, and beat Ken.
Characters like Ken and Chunners on the other hand are fan favorites of the game, been in other media, and been around forever. All of this adds up to ways to build on them. Although I will say I don't think Udon is limited like IDW when it comes to SF so they could always expand on some of these characters unofficially.

My favorite Chun-Li storyline is 3rd Strike because it doesn't revolve around Shadaloo or her dad, and it's instead about her coming out of retirement and going after a kidnapped child, and it's shown she's teaching orphans how to fight.
It felt like a logical progression and a good way to keep the character around without retreading ground. I feel like Chun-Li gets cucked out of being the one to fight Bison because they keep shoving Ryu in that role instead.
>none of the female fighters have any engaging story character arcs compared to the men.
I do like Rose, and Elena, and I genuinely really like Makoto and I think she should have taken the reins as III's protagonist alongside Alex. Sakura and Karin got redeemed big time in Ganbaru, and I think Chun-Li is one of the best designed characters ever and that alone makes up for a kind of bland storyline.
> like the ladies have less compared to the guys in character investment.
I mean, it's not like that many male SF characters have engaging story arcs or motivations either. If Capcom ever gave a shit, they sure don't anymore.
But then again, characters like El Fuerte and R.Mika can have the exact same cardboard personality and yet Mika is extremely popular for obvious reasons while Fuerte gets ignored and cast aside as just bad design (which he is but that's not the point).
I think there is a discrepancy like you said, but to me, I think it comes from the fact that they have to try a lot harder to make a memorable male character than to make a female one.
The only characters people generally like out of the IV era are C.Viper and Juri, and they aren't really any better put together than guys like Hakan or Rufus.
Zachary Watson
>Chun-Li is one of the best designed characters ever
Truer words have rarely been spoken.
Dominic Rivera
Speaking of shitty female character arcs, I do find it funny how in Third Strike they basically admit that Chun-li was the one who brought Shadaloo down, but when it's time to actually show it, she literally had nothing to do with it. Karin and Ryu had more to do with that than anyone else, and Ryu wasn't around for most of V's story.
Jesus Capcom's writing sucks
Dylan Lewis
It's kind of amazing that it still got a full fan translation though, and the whole script is on GameFAQs.
It makes the callbacks to it in the Project X Zone games all the more rewarding.
William Walker
They're school bloomers
Jace Perry
Dan's probably best used in small doses, although it was neat they gave the guy a break in this wrestle thing - I also liked, in Sakura Ganbaru, I think, where he was actually depicted as competent, just maybe not quite on par with SF's best.
It would be neat to see some subtle SNK nods when Dan gets used though, out of general principle - he's kind of the Access of the Capcom/SNK crossovers, in a way, but in SF and the comics his depiction often defaults to weak joke, when it could be more... oh well, they're in no rush to dignify the competition or the parody they made of it...
BY SF wrestlers you mean only the ones in the SF games, or also the rest of the Slammasters cast?
Mason Turner
apparently they had good veterans act as harsh and rather critical taskmasters to the newer guys, who struggled to measure up.
i hope they all reached a point in their careers where they get to chill a bit more.
Xavier Rogers
Helps emphasize her animation, like how it snaps straight when she does dashing punches.
Also maybe a handicap to remind her never to have her back to an opponent.
Josiah Morales
They should add Morrigan to the Street Fighter franchise, anyway. Darkstalkers are a dead trademark, anyway, no one cares with any character that isn't Morrigan or Felicia.
And with characters like Akuma or Necalli, it isn't like the things can go more supernatural than they are now.
William Perry
SF stories tend to be pretty simple, especially for the vast majority of the cast, often male, and Capcom appears to have little respect for the notion, considering how much they flip-flop on things like character deaths or ages.
Fewer ladies just means to problem in concentrated on fewer characters, making it more obvious.
Sometimes there's a promise of something greater, but these are characters whole lives outside of combat we rarely see, and big consequent timeskips are unlikely when they want to keep the whole cast available just in case.
I mean, a future where an older Ryu assimilated some Oro techniques into his style (or heck, even some from the Marvel Vs games), Cammy complemented her techniques with some of Guile, Nash, Rolento or even Bison's, where Ibuki picks up stuff from the likes of Guy, Zeku or Vega all seem kinda plausible.
Things could go even wilder, like say, Bison or whomever wrecks Brazil and Gil & Urien's Illuminatti present themselves as savious, and Sean ditches idolizing Ken from associating with and learning from the people who helped when it mattered.
Maybe Makoto tires of carrying her family's martial tradition all by herself and goes from fixing the dojo with her bare hands to just ditch everything and do the Gouki martial hermit thing.
While a lot of this seems canonically possible, a lot of it seems sub-optimal it terms of marketing of gameplay, and after SF3 Capcom seems unwilling to take such risks.
Sebastian Martin
They could dip their toes in the concept with human Talbain...
Nathan Ross
Why not just say fuck it to all that shit and make All-Capcom which is basically XvsCapcom sans Marvel/SNK/Tatsunko unless they want to have them on as guests. That way they could dust off all these dead franchises and gauge how much anyone cares and they don't have to worry about some other company being a cunt about the rights.
Tyler Cox
>Makoto becomes another fight hobo
Nah man go the other way, have her sell out and turn the family name into a bunch of McDojos.

Caleb Russell
It's called retcon. Also Urien assumed Chun-Li took down Shadaloo and semantics ain't his forte
Brayden Allen
No you morons. Makoto endgame is making her dojo a success and finding her maternal, protective side training the weak and bullied into fighting machines. She now fights not just for her family pride but for her students. It strengthens her rivalry with Ibuki as Makoto now has serious responsibilities while Ibuki cuts ninja classes. Bonus points if Makoto's boyfriend ends up being her weakest but hardest working student.
Elijah Bennett
I'm mad now that you pointed it out, because that didn't even go through my head amidst everything else I hated about V's story.
I mean, you could argue that maybe Chun-Li just handled actually taking down Shadaloo while Ryu just beat Bison, but no they really just made it all about Karin and Rashid's stories.
I think they are going to have another Story Mode so we'll see if something different happens then.
>Urien assumed Chun-Li took down Shadaloo and semantics ain't his forte
Urien is literally in V's story though, if I recall specifically to monitor what the other characters were doing.
Logan Perry
That's end game, but the arc is facilitated by the fall by selling out.
Ethan Reyes
If only...
>I think they are going to have another Story Mode

Yeah i think i remember hearing that that was the plan, and that the second story would utilize the season 2 onwards characters and be about the illuminati. So i guess we'll find out if G really is related to Urien/Gill or not.
Gavin Carter
>They should add Morrigan to the Street Fighter franchise, anyway.
Capcom is shameless to the point they are probably going to do that eventually.
>with characters like Akuma or Necalli, it isn't like the things can go more supernatural than they are now.
There are worlds of difference that separate Akuma and Necalli from Morrigan even if you blatantly disregard that SF relates to the supernatural in a different way than Darkstalkers does and that Morrigan would break the setting just by being there, but Capcom doesn't care.
Frankly I'm surprised they haven't yet added her as DLC.
>no one cares with any character that isn't Morrigan or Felicia
It will never not make me unreasonably mad how much Capcom has slept on Darkstalkers and how the franchise is now only known for tits.
It's infuriating that this series has so, so, so much potential, much more than Street Fighter, and it's dead, with only one of it's more boring characters getting crossover spotlight.
I know I will probably regret these words on the occasion it does happen, but Darkstalkers should be given to an indie studio willing to mess around with it instead of rotting in Capcom's hands.
Benjamin Hernandez
Heck, have her convert Dan to her ways - Dan used to be all about honoring his old man, but Makoto by now probably sees all the men in her family as quitters, and it would be terribly easy to point out how Dan's dad Go tried to take the easy and disonorable way to victory with Sagat's eye. Dan tries to make her defend her workds with her fists, and she does it so hard he becomes her student despite being her elder.
Fun fact: in one of the SNK Vs Capcom Card Fighters games, the card for Takuma (Ryo's dad and teacher to the Art of Fighting protagonists Dan is meant to parody) can provide support to Makoto's (which isn't surprising Takuma's own daughter strays way more from his style than Makto probably ever did from her family's).
Isaiah Ward
It's really quite upsetting that Capcom (along with Sony, Konami and Sega) have this huge vault of great IPs that realistically, they'll never do anything meaningful with ever again.
Logan Johnson
I look forward to playing it and only getting 50,000 in FM.
Sega is looking to "rely on old IPs", at least. And Capcom has been going through a renaissance, so...hope hope.
Not Konami though. Fuck them.
Luis King
For what it's worth, the Project X Zone games do interesting things with the DS character, even if it's in another genre of game.
Owen Perez
Eh, Capcom's renaissance might as well just be "Devil May Cry is back and Resident Evil isn't garbage anymore". It's a step in the right direction of course, but they haven't really done all that much with their vault.
Nathaniel Parker
That Beat Em Up Bundle was pretty awesome too.
Josiah Fisher
Second this.

I feel like Darkstalkers is something that Capcom never learned to properly capitalize on even back when it was at peak popularity and rightfully so. Unlike Street Fighter, it doesn't have to revolve around fighting or martial arts. The main feature of Darkstalkers allows for a vast amount of types of stories and characters, as vast as the horror genre allows. There is no shortage of monsters or mythological beings to adapt and Darkstalkers has barely scraped the surface on them.
The series is also an animator's dream with how every character has like a dozen different forms and they can all shapeshift. Imagine a Darkstalkers anime with enough budget to fluidly not just recapture the animations of the games but also add new ones.
You know that Embrace the Dark contest a while ago that had people creating Darkstalkers OCs? Imagine how much bigger that could be if it was a constant thing that happened. For every new Darkstalkers content, game or cartoon or OVA or whatever, they'd do a new contest. Imagine how successful that could be.
Every Darkstalker comes not just with different forms, but also a supporting cast of their own, a setting and even a genre they can fit in on top of the established universe they share. Not only should this be enough for each of them to sustain a solo outing like an OVA or something, but imagine how explosive it could be for action figures. Where are all the ridiculous Darkstalkers toys and merchandise? I demand my transforming Lord Raptor mobile complete with beach outfit.
I'm just spitballing ideas here and I'm not gonna pretend I know a lot about how profits work or whether it really is financially viable to try and make Darkstalkers more popular.
But I feel like it really shouldn't be hard at all to please the fans of the series and also make a shitload of money off of it.
Jaxson Ross
I always thought Darkstalkers would make for a cool beat em up or platformer.
Adrian Watson
>Where are all the ridiculous Darkstalkers toys and merchandise? I demand my transforming Lord Raptor mobile complete with beach outfit.
I have no idea who Storm Collectibles are, but they just got the toy license a few months ago.

Juan Baker
/toy/ soldier here, Storm Collectibles are a pretty good company, their Street Fighter figures have been great for the most part except for a QC issue with Bison's shoulders (it was their first release) and how well they can do women faces. SC doing Darkstalkers is a mixed bag, since the male cast will probably come out amazing but Morrigan will probably have a 40 year old tired hooker face, but that might end up working in their favour.
Caleb Nguyen
Will they do a good Talbain? All I care about.
Juan Ortiz
Talbain would probably come out pretty good, his arms aught to have enough articulation to pose with nunchucks fine, but his tail would probably just have one poi at it's base and that'd be it. It'd also probably be wobbly on the small feet but SC include bases with their figures anyway.
Liam Sanchez
Good. The chances of getting Rikuo and Sasquatch are slim, so at least I can get one of the three.
Daniel Powell
Her justification for that was funny. Also,
>somersaulting through her rival’s window and rolling on their bedroom floor laughing
>calling out her rival by renting out their neighbourhood and staging a martial arts tournament in it
>setting up a public transport network to make sure her rival actually reaches their goal
Brayden White
Did Sakura have something of a dropoff in popularity? She was well-represented in games and featured pretty prominently in merch and advertising from her debut until about the mid-'00s, where she started getting pushed out to the fringes more and more.
Jose Cruz
user she literally won first place in a recent popularity poll. Granted it was after her season three reveal, but still.
Kevin Wilson
So is she disliked internally at Capcom or by Ono or something? Also I'm happy to see that people still care about Skullomania
Jason Ward
I honestly don't think she's disliked at all, i mean keep in mind that she's an Alpha character and that came out in mid nineties, before III came out and didn't have Sakura in it. And then there wasn't another SF game until '08 with IV, and she was in the starting roster for the console version a year later.
Evan Roberts
Nutpuncher calling out an eye gouger dishonorable is hypocritical.
Christian Carter
Since I brought up the concept, here's an idea I'd like to try.
Pitch me your Darkstalkers OC.
What kind of monster or mythological being you'd like to reinterpret under the wacky cartoon fighting game style, what kind of transformations they'd have, what characters they'd interact with, the works.
Ayden Perry
Jersey Devil, Nessie, Mothman...more cryptids.
Jordan Kelly
I really can't think of a time when Sakura wasn't extremely popular. I used to kind of hate her for it and because I thought her concept was annoying, but then I grew up and I read Ganbaru and then they finally allowed her to mature in SFV and now I'm very fond of her.
Then again I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that she's actually an adult now and not a schoolgirl was responsible for a drop off in popularity for her.
I guess it just kinda feels that way because they took a while for them to put her in SFV and I guess they've been pushing characters like Laura or Mika more than her.
Aiden Johnson
>Q at 4
That makes me really happy. Never thought Q was a popular enough character.
I'm also happy that Rose, Dudley and Sodom are that high.
>Honda above Dhalsim
Weird. I mean, not complaining, I love them both and I think Dhalsim should be higher, but given Honda's been utterly absent in V and nobody seems to be even noticing, I didn't think anyone even liked the guy anymore.
>Birdie at the absolute bottom
Aw man.
Birdie has always been one of my favorites. I'm happy they brought him back even if I still think the fat redesign sucks.
>C.Jack, Darun Mister, FANG, Hugo, Rolento and fucking Bison that low
People have no taste.
I'm genuinely surprised how low Menat and Laura
Camden Wright
Still a bit surprised that Ingrid never popped up anywhere again after the PSP port of SFA3, until Project X Zone 2. I guess maybe they took the criticism that she was an Athena ripoff to heart?
Brayden Jenkins
>continuing
I'm genuinely surprised how low Menat and Laura are.
David Wright
I guess so, they seemed to stop trying to take pages from SNK after 3 (I guess Ingrid and Remy were the proof that it was never going to work out for them). I guess they also kind of felt that Ingrid being basically God also kind of undermines every other super powerful martial artist in the series.
I'm a little surprised that Ingrid doesn't seem to be on the list at all. Not complaining in the slightest though, Ingrid is the worst.
James Taylor
She was still pretty bad in Project X Zone.
Josiah Phillips
Don't forget Maki, who was never seen or heard from again after CvS2.
Camden Perry
Why is Juri so high? Is it just down to foot fetishists?

Juri is a hot female villain with a cool design, an effective play style (at least in IV) and a vaguely sexual dynamic with Chun-Li and Cammy.
It's really not that complicated.
Jeremiah Watson

I know Japan knows about Mothman, I'd like to see how they do the Jersey Devil though.
Play with the blind warrior cliche and have a Blindfolded Gorgon, For basics uses Grecoroman mainstay weapons, sword, shield, throwing anus, basically Xena. Special moves would be bringing her snake hair into play, she'd essentially have the ability to snipe across the screen like Dhalsim or Necro as well as Twelve type moves where she can send snakes underground and whip them around herself. Supers would be Petrifying stare, only stuns the opponent for a good while but they don't get hit out of it they have to go full duration also they get turned into a goofy statue version of themselves. Other Supers would be calling in a chain of Monsters like Typhon and the Hekatonkaires and a grab that throws the opponent through a few famous tortures of Tartarus.

Darkstalkers dying as a franchise is all on them. I spent decades waiting for a proper game to come out after I was told about it by my friends and BB Hood was one of my favorite characters to play in Marvel vs Capcom 2.
There is noone to blame for this but Capcom. The fact that it's still even known almost entirely on the inertia of fans and word of mouth is astounding.
Noah Morgan
Speaking of Japan, how about the Flatwoods Monster? They love that guy.

I would love to see other monster hunters I feel that since there are bountys and hunting groups it could lead to some interesting fighters.

I feel the ars goetia has some good monsters for potential fighters plus some of them are good monsters so a good dichotomy with them
Orobas is my personal choice

The magic of Capcom girls.
Samuel Hall
My character would be a takeoff on Mr.Hyde and Jack The Ripper.
He would be an upstanding British professor in an Inverness coat and a green monocle, fighting with his cane and with medical tools, like syringes, leeches, and other forms of atrocious early medicine. His main gimmick is shapeshifting into 3 other forms, with their own attack properties and fighting styles, depending on how he manages his potion specials. His forms would be:
>1: Fredric
A feral gremlin who fights with speed and with lots of surgical blades. The cloak becomes oversized in his body and he often uses it to pop out bonesaws and scalpels and so on. He is modeled after the Fredric March Hyde and Jojo's take on Jack the Ripper.
>2: Flemying
A hulking giant who fights with an oversized forceps. His play style is slow but strong type, but he's closer to characters like Abigail than actual grapplers. The cloak is torn to shreds due to his size. He is modeled after Alan Moore's Hyde and The Hulk.
>3: Jacquely
A shadowy, androginous form that yields an oversized ecrauser fashioned into a hangman's lasso. This one is a distance fighter, controlling the screen with teleports and long-screen grabs, and lacks speed or power as a result. Modeled after Jack The Ripper's silhouette and details.
As a super, I'm thinking he'd be able to temporarily turn the opponents into distorted versions of themselves, akin to Alessi's specials in Heritage to the Future, as well as briefly have all forms deliver an assault.
Personality wise I'd want him to be a lesser villain serving under the boss. He merely passes himself as a human, and is in cahoots with B.B Hood (whether she knows he is a Darkstalker or not is up to debate). The main Jekyll personality wishes to subjugate all Darkstalkers and humans alike for the sake of his experiments and is hampered by the fact that all of his personalities have different, conflicting, and usually less ambitious or violent desires, and will argue often about them.
Nolan Brown
Shut up Boco

I really, really love this one.
It reminds of the character that did win the Embrace the Dark contest, except I like this idea much better because Blindfolded Gorgon Xena is infinitely cooler and more Darkstalker-y than desert skeleton.
You hit just about every note that makes Darkstalkers designs great and you added a spin to it that the series doesn't have. You really know your shit about mythology and it shows.
If this character was real it would easily be one of my favorite fighting game characters on concept alone.
Great job dude.
Brayden Barnes
Now I want Milf Sakura
Brandon Hill
If Darkstalkers is to have an alien character I really think it should be based on the Flatwoods Monster. It has the kind of weird, quirky design blending horror and comedy that easily lends itself to Darkstalkers.
I always thought that there was some kind of association between the Flatwoods Monster and the Ace of Spades playing card. Like maybe it comes from a race of beings that have different races with heads/helmets shaped like different playing card symbols, like hearts, clubs and diamonds.
I'd incorporate that idea into alternate costumes for the character.
Caleb King
I find it hilarious that none of the other SF4 newcomers caught on. They even tried pushing Viper as the new breakout star, then here comes SSF4 with Juri and Viper gets tossed into the background.

Anthony Mitchell
>Wanna see what I can do with a Potato, 3 D batteries and lemon?
Jacob Jenkins
I think it boils down to a couple things
1: Juri is a hot female character, and she's hot in a way that the other female characters in the series are not. Not only does this immediately put her over every other newcomer from IV, but also gives her an edge the other SF girls, including Viper.
2: She is fun as fuck to play and Street Fighter was long overdue for a Taekwondo fighter, and they introduced one that was completely opposite to the ones SNK and other fighting games had.
3: Most of the IV newcomers suffer from being too bland (Abel, Viper), too gimmicky (Rufus, Hakan), or both (El Fuerte, Seth). Juri works better because they took design principles that worked for Chun-Li (traditional outfit altered to fit the character's personality and fighting style) and applied it to an evil counterpart. She has the classic SF design elements reinterpreted for a new generation kind of character. And that actually brings me up to point 3
4: Juri fills a niche other characters don't as a psycho female villain opposing the good guys and the villain at once. There was a place for Juri in SF because no other character was occupying it. That's why they gave her a movie and that's why she gets to stick around.
I'm not the biggest Juri fan but even putting aside the obvious appeal characters like her have, she is just much better put together than the other IV characters by a long shot.
Caleb Long
>They even tried pushing Viper as the new breakout star
For some reason, in Street Fighter, it seems to be usually not the characters that Capcom tries to push out as protagonists or breakout sensations that catch on.
I love Alex with all my heart and he's one of my favorite SF characters ever, but he's not the breakout star of SF3. It's Ibuki, or Yun/Yang, or Makoto.
Abel was kinda meant to be the protagonist of IV, and nobody gives a shit about him. C.Viper got a lot of push that amounted to nothing.
Rashid seems to be the exception.
Hunter Carter
Alex was a really weird choice to push as the new "main" character. It's not at all surprising that it didn't work.
Matthew Wilson
I think they were trying to change things up and have a wrestler instead of another shoto/karate guy and thought the Hulk Hogan influence would help boost his popularity.
Xavier Thomas
It makes sense if you think in terms of 90s/00s executives.
He's an American Wrestler with 'tude. All he needs is a skateboard and he could feel like something concocted in a lab to appeal to cringy preteens.
Austin Young
It really didn't help that Viper was just really uninspired from almost every angle. Her design was kind of awkward, her gameplay was meh, her story is boring. There wasn't really anything for people to bite into and it was apparent even before Juri stole the spotlight that fans weren't really enthusiastic about Viper.
Ryder Barnes
>Her design was kind of awkward
It'd be okay if it wasn't for the hair. Even then "sexy girl in a suit" has been done before in fighting games and better. The stupid caterpillar hair just knocks her down from a 7/10 design to a 4/10.
Brandon Clark
I hated Abel at first.
He ended up being kind of cute with his win quotes
Also that doujin
Jaxon Ortiz
I think Abel actually has at least some potential, and his gameplay was interesting as a proper MMA style and half grappler. In then end though his story gimmick pretty much got usurped by Ed/Falke and their gang.
Aiden Carter
Wasn't his gimmick just a gender-swapped version of Cammy's original story?
Jayden Davis
I liked Abel better in SFxT where they paired him with Guile and it basically became a buddy cop comedy duo
Jose Diaz
Probably because they're new. Not every character is a instant hit like Sakura or Juri. Some take time to get popular
Easton Morales
Dan's ending is the only MSHvsSF ending that mattersDhalsim's ending is a close 2nd
John Davis
Laura's basically the Viper of SFV, though. They pushed her pretty hard but reaction to her has been kind of mixed. She does have her fans, but she's been around for 3 years now and if she hasn't caught fire yet it's not going to happen.
Grayson Ross
I don't think it was that weird, it just wasn't done very well.
The idea behind "New Generation" was to revamp the cast with a new story and villain and for this cast to have some similarities with previous fighters while being their own characters. Alex was sort of like that. He was a young, powerful man traveling from place to place to learn while fighting the masters of martial arts and wanting to be the best fighter the world had ever known so that he could get revenge for his friend/mentor on a powerful villain. Character wise he almost seems like Ryu meets Guile, except his personality and play style isn't like either of them. He had an attitude of his own.
He took moves from previous fighters like Zangief, Birdie, Adon and Guile, and brought in a playstyle that combined MMA with wrestling, and with him being based on Hulk Hogan and all, he could cash in not just on the rise of UFC but also the peak of wrestling popularity.
Everything about Alex on paper seems like ideal protagonist material for 1997, and I guess that's kinda where the problem lies. That it seems like they overthought about it and made a character with almost too much stuff going on, that works perfectly well on his own but doesn't capture as protagonist material, at least not for a fighting game where audiences need to be hooked on sight.
Brayden Foster
Yeah I remember when they had like this big Laura statue at an event and Ono was really banking on her being huge.
Laura has her fans obviously but any character with assets like hers is gonna have fans no matter what. But Laura dissappoints me because they wasted a potentially interesting female character and a potentially great representation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (and thankfully not another capoerista because there's enough of those) on a one-note bimbo with electric powers who looks and acts the way she does because it gives Yoshinori Ono a boner.
Liam Myers
She's a fishfucker, so there's that
Daniel Hernandez
I don't really hate Abel, I even played a lot as him. He has a pretty unique play style and I like that he's based on Fedor without being actually Fedor, which is usually what makes for good SF design, basing a character off a real martial artist without just copypasting that person into the game.
But the SIN storyline is dull as shit and Abel isn't nearly strong enough a character to help carry it, nor does he really add anything to the game other than a cool play style that could probably be spent on a more interesting character. Abel is okay and not really much more.
I do agree with , his interactions with Guile are pretty great in SFxT
Sorta, if you call amnesiac soldier a gimmick.
Which kinda reaffirms my earlier point that it's a lot easier for a female SF character to stick around than a male one even if they have the exact same backstory or character.

I actually like Ed quite a bit more than I expected when I first saw him.
I think he does the "experiment rebels against villain" thing nicely, for a storyline that was dull even when Cammy did it first. I like his gameplay, I like his style, and what I like the most is what he does for Balrog's character.
Ed's allright.
Falke is just downright unfinished. She is a boring Overwatch reject like Kolin who feels like a character that should have had at least 3 redesigns until she left the drawing board
Jonathan Morgan
Menat looks all hot and stuff, but the whole mystic thing just feels off with the Street Fighter universe, I guess.
Aside from the ugly haircut, Laura looks kinda generic for fighting games (still hot though).
Logan Lee
Laura, Kolin and Menat all have the same problem in that anytime a new SF girl gets introduced, they get fairly popular for awhile, then quickly fall off.
Like I said, it sometimes takes time for characters to stick. Rose is like the perfect example. When she appeared in SFA1, a lot of fans didn't take to her because of her weird look and lack of identifiable martial art. She was then immediately overshadowed by Sakura in SFA2, Karin and Mika in SFA3 and Ibuki in SF3. Whatever popularity she has now is almost entirely due to her being so consistenly high-tier in the earlier Alpha games., as well as her storyline importance.
Asher Robinson
It's easier for women to stick because there are less of them. Even after 30 years women only make up 1/4 of the roster. There's less competition. It's usually Chun-Li and two or three other girls.
Levi Wood
alex could've been a dynamic dude?
Jason Campbell
Well, you have to be a really good sportsman to not be sore about that massacre.
I feel bad for the Rival Schools crew, though.
Elijah Gonzalez
Darkstalkers lore is unappealing to sell plot wise, a most every character is a villain or a crude opportunist with alien morals. The main thing holding it back is it's just a flashy fighter that has shitty mainstream appeal to anyone that's not a teenager. Street Fighter is a perfect universal balance of kid and adult all appealing presentation and more likable characters.
Morrigan and Felicia are the most popular characters because they are the most human and mostly entertaining characters from the game. Everyone else is a Japanese fanservice acquired taste.
Michael Sanchez
>DMC is back and more popular
>Hardly recognized in it's own home country and YouTube let's plays like game grumps and markliplier.
Face it man, it's a underground fan base not but not pokemon or resi evil big.

Why does Yea Forums has the best Street Fighter/Capcom threads?
Michael Jenkins
Round 05 by Tohzai or whoever
Warning it starts out a bit ruff
Joshua Nelson
Because this board is slower and less obnoxious than Yea Forums and the only people who would bother posting in it are already hardcore fans of the games' lore

Yes, it was. It's brimming with detail everywhere.

I wish they did more with the other Dolls

Their 90s artbooks were something else.

>most every character is a villain or a crude opportunist with alien morals
As if characters being anti-heroes or villain protagonists has ever been a deterrent to anything.
And Darkstalkers has more straight up heroic characters like Felicia, Talbain, Donovan and Hsien-Ko to fulfill that role if it's necessary.
>Street Fighter is a perfect universal balance of kid and adult all appealing presentation and more likable characters.
And that's exactly why Darkstalkers stood out. Because it wasn't a cookie cutter, inoffensive thing that appealed to everyone, it was the developers taking risks and going wil
>it's just a flashy fighter that has shitty mainstream appeal to anyone that's not a teenager
>Morrigan and Felicia are the most popular characters because they are the most human and mostly entertaining characters from the game. Everyone else is a Japanese fanservice acquired taste.
I don't get your point.
Are you implying that only Japanese people like the other characters? Because if anything it seems demonstrable that characters like Lord Raptor, Demitri and Victor are far more popular here in the US than there.
Are you shitting on Darkstalkers for fanservice and pandering to teenagers but then praising the two characters that absolutely do that the most as the only good and marketeable ones?
I don't see what's the issue you take with Darkstalkers other than it's not Street Fighter.
Josiah Rogers
>Lord Raptor, Demitri and Victor are far more popular here in the US than there.
You forgot Talbain. Loved in the US, ignored in Japan.
Justin Price
I'm pretty sure Talbain has his fans in Japan.
But I get the feeling that if it was half as big as it's in the US he definitely would have been put in an MvC game by this point.
Bentley Wilson
Sad thing is, he was THIS close to getting into MvC3. Would have been if they had a few more months.
Camden Hernandez
>Talbain could have been Iron Fist's rival in UMvC3
Tyler Rogers
I Fucking love the Dolls intro in Alpha 3. And I want an all Capcom fighter.
Ryan Sanchez
No, I just imagined something better/worse
>Talbain and Moon Knight will never be rivals in a MvC game
Fuck this gay earth
Camden Morgan
Based god user.
Carson Hall
How can they not like a fucking Kung-Fu Werewolf?
Zachary Clark
Japan has awful taste. This is not news.
Mason Lee
Even PXZ2 dunked pretty hard on her, but it was a much better avenue than SF to actually try and flesh her out.
Ryder Brooks
How do you guys feel about SF EX's characters?
Skullomania is super popular but nobody seems to care about the other guys.
I think some of them are almost on par with the World Warriors in terms of design and I'd love for them to actually be canon.
Jacob Hill
Love them. I mean D. Dark's original story added to Guile's & Rolento's backstories.
Brandon Ramirez
I loved to play with Garuda. I had fond memories from EX, I played it a lot with my brother and friends when we were kids
Daniel Lopez
Tekken's done pretty well for itself with villain protagonist and a cast villed with assholes and people with questionable moral fiber...
Dominic Brown
The "FGC" spends way too much time and effort talking about tournament scenes that are irrelevant to most people on the planet, and the gameplay stuff tends to not last between games.
The story stuff, however, tends to stick around and develop over time - but if you go look for discussion about the games, the most visible or seemingly obvious avenues online will not be focusing on that.
Wyatt Richardson
C.Jack is still the coolest Street Fighter character regardless of what outfit he wears
Robert Flores
Doctrine Dark and Volcano Rosso are my boys, absolutely love those lads. Rosso is straight up a jojo character dropped into the SF setting and Dark's gameplay and edge clicks so well for me. If there're any crossover characters from FEXL that i'd want in SFV then it'd be either of those too, but i'd be fine with it being Skullo.
Though the crossover character that i really want is PS4 Spider-Man, that's something that'll probably give the SFV a good pop. Just slow down alot of his MvC moves and have his gadget choices be on V Trigger.
Isaiah Evans
Because he has a reputation as an annoying, easy to use character used by scrubs. Remember that people actually played these games seriously in Japan back when they came out, so gameplay-related stuff mattered just as much, if not more than stuff like looks and story.
Joshua Jackson
I liked Pullum Purna a lot, but she was basically overshadowed by Powerstone's Rogue.
Adam Brown
You'd be too if one was twisting your nipples
Nolan Robinson
Because he's not a KARATE werewolf

I hope someone dumps the Wrestlepalooza comic.

Yeah, but at this point there's no ripper or scanner willing to do it.

It was a beautiful thing - they had so much love for everything they created.

The 00's stuff was often very good too - even for publications relatively few fans would see, they always put so much effort in.
Cameron Davis
Really, it's good to see other people appreciate it.

Akuma's ending in Second Impact actually caused a bit of controversy here in Australia amusingly, since he splits Ayers Rock in two during his training.

Luis Reed
>actually caused a bit of controversy here in Australia
Really?
Did people get pissed because he was destroying a landmark?
Unrelated to SF but I always wondered how aussies feel about Kano, especially with how he's portrayed in the latest game.
William Cox
It's considered a relic in Aboriginal spirituality, so yeah, people got a bit hot under the collar about it when it started getting picked up by a few news outlets here. Plus you need to remember that we had some particularly nasty run-ins with the Japanese during the War, so a lot of older people here still have a pretty strong anti-Japanese sentiment and hearing the surface story would've gotten them a bit riled up.
Also Kano, at least with the people I know who follow videogames, is liked here. The decision to make him a bogan (basically our equivalent of white trash rednecks) is considered to be very funny.
Jose Torres
....her dad is Heihachi Mishima?
Andrew Martinez
Well, they're both heads of rich business empires.
Nolan Adams
ooh an australian! how bad was the video game wars over there in the 90s? once had an australian nintendo magazine and it was full on company wars (especially in the letters page) that it's ridiculous (fan art showing nintendo fans as roided out jocks executing sonic with a shotgun blast to the mouth).
Ian Howard
>how aussies feel about Kano
Every Aussie either knows someone exactly like Kano or is exactly like Kano. What i want to know is what state he's from, he sounds more like a bluey to me rather than a cane toad.
Justin Gray
Oh, I see. Yeah, that makes sense, it's definitely something that they should have put a bit more thought into (especially when they could just have Akuma destroying an ordinary fuckhueg mountain and get the same effect).
Glad to hear that. I've always loved Kano and I'm very happy with how unapologetically gross and scummy they've made him in the newer installment, and they even brought Saxton Hale's official VA to voice him.
John Wilson
Well we had the whole violence in videogames controversy with Doom and Mortal Kombat and whatever like everywhere else did, but I think it never really got close to the level it did in the US since we never had anything like Columbine that people tried to pin on videogames. Plus not a heap, but some stuff, used to be outright banned here because we didn't have an R18+ rating for videogames until only a few years ago.
In regards to console wars and whatever though, can't really comment. The main videogame magazine here, Hyper, was the only one I read and that tended to be pretty platform agnostic in its viewpoint.
Benjamin Sanchez
ah! i only had one magazine to draw data from but it was still pretty outrageous. calling one of their reviewers a traitor for reviewing a sega game on an unaffiliated show (even offering a dartboard poster of his face).
Ian Ortiz
It's really good stuff.
