Nobody wants to kill or replace Optimus, so it's unlikely we're ever going to see Hot Rod or Ultra Magnus in a major role again. Also, Megatron becoming Galvatron will only ever be a temporary change. The movies and the toys have established Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream as the most important characters on each side, so every iteration of Transformers is going to have them in prominent roles.
