Almost all of his stuff from 2011-2015 has a much more modern and clean-looking style than this short did. The more recent Great the Show stuff has a "rough on purpose as part of the joke" vibe to some of it which seems to have sent him down the rabbit hole of chasing a nostalgic look (as the use of Flash so old it carries the Macromedia branding can attest)

I think that reaction is interesting because lots of people who liked his older stuff for the offbeat weirdness and density of jokes had a pretty lukewarm reaction to this short in the thread because they thought it was boring. Joe himself would probably appreciate your opinion more because it’s easily the thing he’s spent the most time on and taken the most seriously (the characters have existed in his head for at least a decade and it’s meant as the beginning of a series)
