Someone explain Archie to me. So, it began as just some slice-of-life harem anime-tier comic book with vanilla strips. Then over time it just gets more serious and edgy or something, and political(?). And now there's this show that is far more dark than anything in the books, apparently, and is bloody and all this other shit. Why is the theme kind of, uh... inconsistent?

They're taking something that was all American, beloved and basically raping the nostagia by making a mockery of it.

Franchise was fading into obscurity, they were going to lose their biggest cash cow (Sonic) and were close to declaring bankruptcy. So they decide to go the low road and go the shock value route of gory comics and dark melodrama in a desperate plea for attention and unfortunately it worked.

Granted the Sabrina character was used for horror comics back in the old days but the usual Riverdale gang were always in their own status quo world for most of their existence until the past decade or so.
