I think this is the movie that's going to separate him from that. Moving on from the past, realizing he doesn't need to fill anyone's shoes, he has to be the best hero he could be. Aside from that issue, one of the things I liked from Endgame is how I came appreciate the Peter/Tony relationship by showing it from the latter's perspective and how he genuinely wanted to foster Peter's development as a hero instead of using him as a tool to capture Steve. The heroic rat may have kick started undoing the snap, but Peter was the one who got Tony out of his funk to figure out time travel. Not to mention Peter was deemed as important to Tony as his own wife to be by his side as he was dying. So now I might actually handle all this talk of Iron Man in the movie.

I feel like they blew their chance with him, yeah I get what they’re trying to do with him acting as a good guy saving the world but I feel they could’ve really done something amazing with his SFX gimmick on the big screen. And almost cerebral horror villain who claims to be some evil alien and keeps tricking spider man like spellbinder in Batman beyond only with a 200 million dollar budget, taking off his helmet to reveal spider that attack him, clouds of mist with zombies coming out, etc. it just feels like wasted opportunity to me. I can't believe that the last Spider-Man movie released and the upcoming Spider-Man movie are both about a multiverse. What's even weirder is that the last movie to feature Spider-Man was about time travel and alternate timelines.
Anyway, is Spider-Man really the character you want to introduce the multiverse with? Wouldn't Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy or... I don't know, Man-Thing be better suited for this? I know Spider-Man took a really weird turn into this shit with the Slott run, that they've done multiple multiverse events with Spidey in recent years and that Mysterio was the villain for the first one. But there's kind of a reason most Spider-Man adaptations stick to the original concepts of Spidey being some loser stuck with more responsibility than he can handle, the fantastical stuff being relatively down to earth and Mysterio simply being some illusionist.
As for the introduction of the multiverse, what do they intend to do with that in the long run? Bring dead characters back to life? The Squadron Supreme? Zombieverse? New Universal? Negative Zone? Crossovers with previously unrelated adaptations?

I remember how it went down and a lot of them were people who didn't even read comics getting real upset over your typical bait-and-switch story, which was actually well executed until then, but the entire overreaction happened almost a year after the fact when Secret Empire began. It's no surprise that you saw a lot of people going back to the very first issues of Captain America and complained that Red Skull was made "sympathetic" (and idiots from here were actually going full "Red Skull did nothing wrong, he's reasonable" so people bought into that), so you can obviously see people who were unfamiliar with what actually happened genuinely thought Marvel was "debasing" Steve Rogers.

There's a different between a different style and completely misunderstanding the character. The Raimi films aren't perfect Spider-Man adaptations, TASM even less so. What I wanted from the MCU Spider-Man was to expand on what those movies did right, use it as a building block to create the perfect Spider-Man. And instead they threw it all out consequently throwing out who Peter Parker is a character at the same time.
Don't want to use Harry or MJ yet? Fine. Give us Liz, Betty, Flash, Gwen, etc. Flesh those characters out.

There were a lot of ways to differentiate MCU Spider-Man from the last two while keeping the character intact.
A younger Aunt May is fine but her struggling to pay the bills is a big aspect of Peter's story. She could've still been young but disabled. And then you could lean more into Peter using his powers for selfishness at first.

If you wanna be a hero in a hero world, you're going to turn to other heroes for advice and inspiration.
