In anime these characters aren't forced in there for the sake of preaching a message. Nor is there a Sudden Lesbian Switch happening right and left. In the west, it's become a clear and unmistakeable effort to push an agenda when including gay shit. In Japan, it's for story or comedy purposes, and nothing more.

You wouldn't want someone to come up to you and start preaching while you were enjoying your entertainment. And that's what this is. There were random gay chars in the past, but they weren't part of an agenda. It's in the delivery you mongus, they have genres and subgenres, each have their own tropes and expectations.
