Why aren't there more virtual bands...

why aren't there more virtual bands? I would have thought after the gorillaz popularity in the 00s there would have been more imitators

There's dethklok

It's all the hard work of a real band with none of the recognition, same reason capeshit actors always insist on taking off their masks/helmet. Daft Punk is somewhat similar.

Damon is a one-in-a-generation kind of treasure.

So it's like v-personalities or something right, like how you have those people in Japan who have a virtual icon that can move and speak and stuff as a model, but they're actually real people

Because gorillaz is just two guys, not three guys and a girl

I don't really understand what the fuck a virtual band is

I don't think a lot of people do

I'm sure if you asked people about Gorillaz they'd say "oh yeah that one group" without realizing its just two guys

Because there's more production involved since you're dealing with something that's inherently fictional. You have to come up with personalities, situations, voice actors, artists, etc. It's a lot of work as opposed to an already existing band.

The only thing closest to this is VOCALOID/UTAULOID/CeVIO/any type of synthesizer. Like others have said. It's way too much effort with little payoff.

Whenever I see this image I can't help but think about Noodle's "I can break your dick" expression.

>Your son calls me "mommy" too.

Also as a gimmick not particularly popular.

Top tier animated music videos are super expensive.

Gorillaz is probably the best and most well known example of a virtual band, but it's still kind of a mess in terms of actual story and consistent lore. I feel like they wanted to get a movie or animated series off the ground, but corporate execs never met them half-way on what they actually wanted to make.

Kizuna AI is starting to make music.
Does that count?

Because musicians are narcissists who want to plaster their faces on everything.

Because, like the Final Fantasy chick that was supposed to replace actors, it’s a stupid concept

The only reason Gorillaz is successful it’s the fact that it’s sold as Damon Albarn’s side project and Hewlett had a cult following from Tank Girl

A virtual band from talentless nobodies, or worst, done by committee, would be awful

Literally all I know about this character is her viral "fuck you" reaction video.

Studio Killers was pretty popular for a while, although I can see why they've been quiet as of late. Too much effort, not enough recognition. Especially because they're nobodies too.

Because we're not quite in the cyberpunk future yet.

Does the Crazy Frog count?

It's difficult to do and take a lot of money. Not only do you have to make music that happens to hit it big and get popular, which is literally a gamble, you have to have the funds to support animation and all that would entail for a band.

They were trying to make a movie around Plastic Beach but it never happened and now it never will

>not enough recognition
Weren't they getting millions of views? If they kept it rolling I could see them still being popular. Their music is certainly good enough.

Yes, and so does the Gummi Bear and Anna Blue.

>Weren't they getting millions of views?
youtube.com/watch?v=CyAigHilpo4
2.5m views in 5ish months aint so bad new album sometime this year

I didn't even know they put out a new song. They waited years.

Which is a shame, because Plastic Beach is where they seemed to be having the most fun with all the characters, but they never really gave the story much closure.

Murdoc going insane, the boogieman coming after his soul, Cyborg Noodle going down the warpath, Mutant Russel and OG Noodle heading on a collision course with it all, etc.

Actually Gorillaz was a huge hit all by itself; especially in America where Blur was a huge flop save for the novelty song "Song 2" (which Damon hated and wrote as a song making fun of heavy metal).

And even then, it took years for Damon and Hewlett to agree to do a sequel as far as it being created as a one-off thing and Damon suddenly realizing that Gorillaz was going to be what Blur point blank never could be: a huge international hit, especially in the all important American market.

The fact that Damon didn't parlay the first album into a solo career showed that he intended to whore the project out for every dime he could and only Hewlett kept him in check in that reguards.

Its too expensive, imagine having to hire people to animate interviews, music videos, commercials etc with very little in return.

Each of Gorillaz music videos cost near a million dollars to make, even a simple video like Stylo, which they have to tour to make the money back (Fun fact: Damon made a whole whopping 10 pounds during their Plastic Beach tour)

Is Deltron 3030 a virtual band, or just a series of story-based albums?
youtube.com/watch?v=bnI76m4q2cs

>Who is David Bowie

Attached: archies-sugar.jpg (953x953, 236K)

that and Damon already got the international attention with Blur

Personally I'd rather have this than a typical career as a pop musician. You get all the money of being a popstar but you can still go for a walk without being recognized. Best of both worlds.

>Each of Gorillaz music videos cost near a million dollars to make, even a simple video like Stylo
was that due to Bruce Willis being in it?

>what is Hatsune Miku

Nope. Bruce Willis is actually close friends with the group and a huge fan himself, and he agreed to shoot the video for free.

>even a simple video like Stylo

The video made them blow their entire budget so much that Rhinestone Eyes got cancelled. Honestly, its the best looking cgi/live action animation I've ever seen in my life.

Gorillaz weren't prepared to pull off something like that again. You can see how conservative they have become in terms of music video production ever since PB.

>The thousand cock stare

K/DA says hello?
youtube.com/watch?v=UOxkGD8qRB4

I'm in the middle of watching that right now, and holy shit it's amazing. All those tiny in-jokes everywhere, it's glorious.
I wonder just how many bands get namedropped there, so far I've spotted
Fintroll, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Guns & Roses, Necrophagist and Malevolent Creation. I wouldn't be surprised if all Skwisgaars earlier bands are references as well, but I don't recognize any of them.

Despite the stylebreak halfway through, that's pretty decent actually. And I'm saying this as someone who dislikes vocaloid, except a few Miku and Luka songs.

At the risk of not-muh'ing, I really don't like that video. Everything looks like it could be lifted directly from AT and that's not meant in a positive way.

Well there were these guys.

I remember this girl from my class being really into 2-D. I guess it's more ethical that people are obsessed with cartoon characters rather than real people.

Because that is expensive and even the popular ones don’t have as much recognition as popshit. Basically for most the gimmick is just too much work and effort than it is worth. And for things like touring? Forget it. Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku are quite the exceptions.

What's the ETA on that animated series? Didn't they announce it would be released this year or something?

I fucking hate that Diplo dropped the Major Lazer character, the cunt got greedy and plastered his face all over promo work so he could get the notoriety

Attached: major-lazer-tv-show-ezra.png (807x452, 491K)

I wouldnt consider them virtual band, there are characters that they play but doesnt Dan get a direct shout out in multiple songs?

Any more details?

Constantly.
youtube.com/watch?v=LzzNn2D4tHo

probably will never happen
at least we have LSD i guess? the music is worse than Major Lazer though

Aren't vocaloid more like personified instruments rather than virtual artists? Cause actual producers that go by nicknames make the songs using them, it's just that in the concerts they just put the hologram and the hired musicians play the songs, but the credit still goes to the producers

>tonight
>you

Her voice at the end of this makes me feel a certain way
youtube.com/watch?v=bSqPj3gdBBw

Holy shit, thats really cool. Thanks for posting, I didnt know that existed.

Ive always loved that Cartoon Network/ Adult Swin have good relationships with decent musicians

I hope Flylo makes another Cap Murphy project.

Attached: captain_murphy_flying_lotus_return_comeback_album_2016_the_405_new_music_news.jpg (970x546, 86K)

It's also a canon "I'll suck your soul out of your pussy" look.

Attached: Gorillaz.jpg (636x421, 91K)

their lower budget animated videos were pretty cool imo
youtube.com/watch?v=PiNdcBg3xC8

This is pretty fucking cool. Craig of the Creek has been pretty cool with bringing in pretty good music on their show. The Bad Moves band they had on their show wasn't too bad, I found.

Attached: bad-moves-craig-of-the-creek.jpg (630x354, 66K)

Emma is cute.

Attached: Emma of Bad Moves.png (1011x547, 550K)

How can Noodle be so cute? The art style is hideous.

Attached: 1541648763824.jpg (1326x920, 156K)

>small tooth gap
Her cuteness increases.

How much does a run-of-the-mill music video cost? One by someone like, idk, Rihanna or Ed Sheeran.

Once upon a time Jamie Hewlett said he didn't want to sexualise Noodle. How times have changed. .

Attached: noodle15.jpg (1575x1575, 296K)

Pentakill, no?

Attached: 1502139648179389696.jpg (1600x960, 134K)

Shame we didn't get Rhinstone Eyes animated but I'm kinda glad they stopped blowing their load. They didn't need to go that crazy with it.

Yeah one song means they're definitely a real band and not just a gimmick to sell costumes

There’s plenty in japan

Nothing in that video looks like AT but whatever

Good attractive design is key

>flat
>zero lineweight
>implying that isn't AT as fuck

I'm not even into K-pop

Attached: 1535016377543.jpg (1920x1080, 709K)

Yes which is why they're so successful. Anyone can buy the program and make their own music basically like a songwriter for an artist.

I'm pretty unhappy with how he changed her design in Humanz. Unless she got tons of work done the tiny bean pole asian girl who was already like 20 at the time of Plastic Beach would not turn into her current fully figured body. Kinda ruined her desu.

Oh sorry I didn't know flat and zero lineweight were the only characteristics of Adventure Time's art style.

>no bestgirl
Thanks, I hate it.

Attached: 1543527399077.jpg (2601x2337, 691K)

he did it for the rotoscoping

If that was the concern they could have just gotten smaller person to record. I won't take that excuse.

Hey, korean girls aren't that short

So... that Gorillaz miniseries Jamie and Damon talked about back in 2017 just got abandoned, right?

A real person.

I mean, at the time it was 7 years since Plastic Beach.
People can change a lot in that time.
I still think she looks nice.

Attached: Noodle doodle.png (712x910, 208K)

She doesn't look like she aged she just looks like her skeleton changed. Which it wouldn't that drastically.

I guess so.

It was a pretty shit idea to be honest.

Tell me your idea for a virtual artist/band, Yea Forums

Attached: 1537514589319.jpg (480x405, 21K)

A bunch of Yea Forums friends and /ic/ friends have begun drafting ideas of one for fun. Our aim is to have a single animated music video by the end of the year. If it sticks, it sticks.

Bump

Does Mystery Skulls count, Yea Forums ?

Attached: _wallpaper__mystery_skulls___ghost_by_zoiby-d88wcjj.png (1024x576, 423K)

What are the concepts. I want to see how terrible they are.

SAUCE

Prog-Rock band featuring a witch with psychodelic eyes and her familiars are the instruments.
The rest of the band are
>A biblical angel. A ring with many eyes and wings that signs in a high pitched masculine voice.
>An enslaved demon that looks like a shadow made out of smoke with lightning and thunder inside him. He has the deepest voice.
>A catholic priest who was betrayed by the corrupt pope and tries to find redemption through the angel.
They sing trippy long-ass rock operas and shit.

So basically Gorillaz but spooky

The bullshit LoL pulled on those animators is utter crap

No dude. Gorillaz isn't prog-rock.
I want something that sounds like a goth version of Yes.

who has six gorillion fictional personas like ziggy stardust

So like Dream Theatre?

No, user.
I want it to sound trippy and holy. Not metal.

why is there only one yankee member of gorillaz

because americans suck but are a big market

t. seething europoor

>76
based and freedom pilled
USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
CRINGE EURO BTFO BY BASED MICHIGANDER

All played by himself. A real person. A real famous person.

>Whenever I see this image I can't help but think about Noodle's "I can break your dick" expression
Yikes how can you type all this and post it unironically

I cant believe im saying this but you need to have sex

>I cant believe im saying this but you need to have sex

Attached: in a perfect world.png (1074x840, 700K)

I have no idea why Yea Forums of all places is pushing the "Have sex" insult more and more recently

Attached: 1535066028791.png (300x300, 120K)

And he basically stopped doing it after The Thin White Duke burned him out too badly and the Glass Spider tour was a huge flop. Tin Machine was pretty much the only exception, and even then the only gimmick was "David Bowie's in a rock band again!".

Because it's the realest here.

Yea Forums is not r/incel

Don't act like you know what Yea Forums is, newfag

What happened?

damon as much as i love him is also everything wrong with the gorillaz

probably my favorite song from them

>What is Outside

Mystery Skulls is a real band, the animated adaptation is just a cartoon set to their music. The characters in the Mystery Skulls cartoon aren't supposed to be the ones singing the song or making the music video.

tl;dr no

bringed by redit, we used to say robot, from r9k before
