This seems to be the theme of this season. Everything before Elseworlds crossover was forgettable as shit, but every show picked up after the second half.

What is the appeal of CW stuff? I've tried to watch so many times but I have to turn the channel because it's so cringe and hardly even loosely based on any source materials.

We’re quite shit at film stuff but anytime it’s about the CW shows we’re sort of spot on.

It's a genre thing. CW DC shows are like a blend of pro wrestling and soap operas with some tropes borrowed from procedural dramas like CSI or Law & Order.

Some comic fans are put off by the more soap opera elements like the melodrama and episodic/repetitive relationships, which I can understand.

What I like most is that, unlike the comics, the TV characters actually have to change because actors leave, contracts change, etc, which affects the show directly. The writers are forced to write resolutions or at least attempt to because not all of the characters stick around. Because of this, I fell there's more opportunity for evolution on these shows, whereas the comics are just going to keep going, get rebooted, repeat stories over and over endlessly with no consequences.

It took me a while to get used to the relationship drama, but I've pretty much dropped reading current DC in favor of just watching the CW shows. They're not perfect, but I find them more satisfying.

Forgot to add that because they have to deal with actors leaving there's more focus on generations of heroes on these shows than there has been in DC's comics for the last decade. There's been a common theme of passing the torch, whether its someone else becoming Green Arrow or training new heroes and passing on experience and knowledge.

You're welcome! I was late to the CW shows and initially dismissed them. Once I went in with an open mind and accepted the story telling differences, it was much more enjoyable.

Flash season 1 is great. I know most consider it to be one of the strongest seasons of all the CW shows. I felt that it took a few episodes to figure itself out, but it's got a great overall arc.

I'll definitely give it a go then! I know initially I was expecting CW shows to be comics in TV show form but there's naturally going to be some differences, just as cape films are different from comics and so on.

Yeah, when Arrow first premiered I was dead-set on thinking anything that wasn't 100% faithful was trash. I was, thankfully, wrong.

Arrow season 1 kind of is Batman Begins but with more time to explore themes and subplots and...just more. Yeah, the style is different, but I'm fine with that.

Anyone else have horrible sound issues with only the CW? The audio is all crackly on my end, but only when the actual show is on. Commercials sound normal. Fuck cable.

Not disagreeing on the comics thing entirely, they do love the status quo, but they do have progression, and often even end, it just takes a few decades for DC to decide the universe needs resetting. I like to think of Post-Crisis as a complete story that 'ends' (and of course restarts) with Flashpoint. Most of the characters admittedly over decades grow up or older and have many major life events happen. I think Billy Batson was pretty much an adult by the time it ended. Bruce was probably in his 50s, albiet with Lazarous Pit fuckery. I think Bart might even have become Flash by then? I'm hazy on the characters outside the bat and super family.

I can honestly respect that as I do understand and to a large degree concur with what you say. I generally prefer trades, Elseworlds, games, movies and the tv-shows to the main timeline comics, both because of the glacial pace of stories and change and the current shitty writing.
