Superman has one of the most interesting rogues gallery in comics. Why do his movies, and this includes the animated features, forget the more interesting figures the boy in blue has fought?

You can’t tell me Brainiac wouldn’t sell tickets.

I mean, Superman vs The Elite was good about about using obscure Superman villains but that was kind of the point.

It's weird because if you look at the never-made stuff you can see people suggesting Braniac or others. But everyone keeps focusing on just Luthor and/or Zod. To Snyder's credit he did bring in Doomsday (even though he really shouldn't have at that point).

Give me the most underutilized superman villain.

God, I love that movie

Maybe Silver Banshee? I don’t think she’s even shown up in a cartoon

She was in the nineties cartoon and Supergirl.

She showed up in Justice League as a minor villain but that’s it.

Damn, I gotta start paying more attention, Wasn’t her thing if she knows your name, she can kill you

Superman is the second most shafted live action character of all time with #1 being Lex Luthor. How is it that after 7 movies there are two Lex Luthor characterizations: obsessed with real estate, and aspergers-lord?

It's kind of interesting that it's Zod given that he's not really that iconic among Superman's rogue gallery.

Yeah. The reason she’s a reoccurring villain is that Clark’s real name is Kal-El, something he’s not giving out to anyone.

Most of Zod comes from people's familiarity with Superman II. I wonder how they decided on him for the 70's films.

>Most of Zod comes from people's familiarity with Superman II.
Not anymore.

Meanwhile, Cap gets Baron fucking Xemo and the first Disney Spider-Man gets the goddamn Vulture.

We just want Brainiac. We’re not asking for Toy-Man or Metallo, just a fucking giant skull ship and an enormous green man.

Snyder also planned on using Metallo had there been a stand-alone MoS sequel.

His Krypton look was Based.

I think an interesting concept would be to relate Superman villains to the seven deadly sins.

Lex Luthor - Pride
Parasite - Gluttony
Brainiac - Greed
Zod/Doomsday - Wrath
Silver Banshee - Lust
Mxyzptlk - Sloth
Bizarro - Envy

Honestly, you can place Luthor in almost all of these except Sloth.

Just like with Gamora, he needed at darker green.

>Silver Banshee - Lust
Lust would be Maxima.

Not really darker, greener really.
Like Hulk Green.

>Mxyzptlk - Sloth
Mxy is never lazy he screws around with supes every month.

Or maybe Obsession.

Attached: advs_538_003.png (436x653, 461K)

La Encantadora would fit better for Sloth and Lust, what with being an illusion using con artist thot. Though you could probably also slot Maxima into Lust.

Why would Bizarro be envy? He's too dumb to be envious.

Maybe Conduit would be a better fit.

I'll lose my shit if there's ever another reboot with Zod as the main villain.

>Superman has one of the most interesting rogues gallery in comics.
Lmao he doesn't. Luthor, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Bizarro are his only good villains. Everyone made after the silver age have sucked and are literally Rogol Zor tier. They've been revamped a thousand times post crisis to make them interesting. Superman writers aren't creative enough to write anything outside of their Spider-man/DBZ hybrid stories.
Bizarro, Mxyzptlk, Luthor, Hercules, Samson were interesting because they're like Superman's annoying friends and relatives, and Superman can't literally punch them away. Good Superman stories aren't about Superman fighting his villains.
DCAU parasite was interesting as well. Too bad the one from comics is another dumb monster.

>Why do his movies, and this includes the animated features, forget the more interesting figures the boy in blue has fought?

They're focused on Luthor too much, like Batman and Joker. They even forget how much fun watching Batman vs Anyone Else is. I'm surprised Reign got an adaption of some sort finally, haven't seen it yet though.

I want a really bad ass Toyman.

Not really, just a lot of Evil Superman clones and the occasional super genius. They really need to dial down the "Superman but Evil" types and try to have something a little different.

When we got
>Zod
>Bizarro
>Cyborg Superman
>Eradicator
>Parasite who constantly steals Superman's powers

Mongul and Braniac are fine, Metallo never made sense as a real thret to Superman. And Brainiac seems to make human smart types like Luthor and Toyman superfluous.

Gog was fun and only appeared as a JSA member before reboot.

I would make Lex Envy, Maxima Lust, Bizarro Sloth, and Mxy Pride

Maxima just wants to breed a baby with superior genes, so I don't know if Lust is the best choice. Pride would be way more suitable, IMO because she gets super fucking salty every time Superman refuses to just fuck her.

The JSA member was Magog. Gog died at the start of the Thy Kingdom Come arc.

Metallo never made sense as a real threat to Superman because they always default to sticking his primary weapon and power source outside his body. Stick the kryptonite inside an armored core, have him emit k-radiation constantly, give him the kryptonite beams, maybe a gimmick like having him "bleed" a viscous gel containing colloidal kryptonite, keep the transformation gimmick he had in the mid-00s, and, since he's basically a brain upload in a robot body, superhuman physical abilities. He should be throwing punches like a goddamn Dragon Ball character and leaping through buildings.

She's also been in a few animated movies

Suicide Squad Hell to Pay, and Superman/Batman Public Enemies

>Mongul
>Cyborg Superman
>Superman villains
They're GL villains if anything.

>Cyborg Superman
Why do villains always like to nuke everything?
Even Mister Mind did that, MISTER MIND!

Speakjng of villains, I wanna see Composite Superman make a comeback. Can't be too hard with dark multiverses and shit. I wanna see a Batman/Superman team up against him.

Parasite, Toyman, Metallo, Maxima, Mongul, Mytzpx

>Mxyzptlk
I think he's already been explored pretty well. In fact, everyone uses Mxy quite well in recent decades. Some abuse the character though to the point where they made him a threat to the multiverse as a whole.
>Mongul
He was a pretty good GL villain.

The rest I agree with, no one really uses them in interesting ways anymore.

>Lex Luthor - Pride
Luthor is Greed, Zod is Pride

Attached: 1631502-ol_lex_luthor.jpg (600x910, 122K)

Maxima has the issue that her classic motivation seems pretty silly these days.

Isn't the New-52 Maxima gay?

Now is actually the perfect time for her to reemerge. With the girl power pushes Maxima can pull a reverse Sasuke and "restore her clan." Nix the marriage aspect and have her be semi-Brainiac. Have her be the mother to the mightiest in the galaxy by "acquiring" the mightiest men in the galaxy.

Maybe something a bit more Bene Gesserit.

Synder shouldn't have used Doomsday at all and how he was created was lame. Bizarro would've been the better option

Cyborg superman make more sense

Brainiac wouldn't sell tickets you autistic fuck.

Fuck I thought I was the only person who still remembered 'Dora

They could do so much with her. I'll bet her original appearances would be "problematic" now.

Get real, Zod was totally picked because of audiences' familiarity with the character. Superman II is well within living memory.

Because Hollywood executives seem to think the only Superman villains there are are Luthor and Zod. I would fucking kill to see Brainiac, Bizarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk on screen. Fuck the Salkinds.

To normies and casuals over the age of 30? Yeah. They're still significant spenders.

He absolutely would. It's not like Zod was selling tickets despite the familiarity.

The Prankster.

Attached: prankstercover.jpg (500x771, 97K)

>Cyborg superman
>GL villain
You're a fool.

Wish metallo or parasite was used instead of doomsday. Regardless supes has a cool rogues gallery but most have never been used in a movie. Brainiac would be sweet

There was an animated feature with Brainiac as the main villain.

You're just repressing the memory because it was bad.

Attached: Brainiac Attacks.jpg (235x353, 28K)

I forgot that there was also a good animated Brainiac movie in 2013.

So yeah, the animated movies aren't really that bad about featuring Superman's expanded rogues gallery.

Who’s this goofy looking brotherfucker?

There was another one with Matt bomer as Superman that was way better. Best brainiac other than dcau was prob on the krypton show tho

We’ll be did blow up Hal’s hometown.

>there will never be a live action bizarro
why live

He’s the main reason Hal became Parallax (Besides Parallax himself).

Was that the one where he goes back in time to kill teenage Clark?

Atomic Skull and Prankster

>arguing Brainiac, Zod, Darkseid and Metallo aren’t good villains

Attached: 2D63FC49-096D-4B9C-9124-BF2CADE890F8.gif (360x202, 1.58M)

The Prankster? He's actually one of Superman's oldest villains, going all the way back to the 40's.

He's a guy who always loved playing practical jokes on people, but he got so good at it that there was no challenge anymore, so he became depressed. Now the only person who can still give him the thrill of a well played prank is Superman.

He would frequently work with other similar Superman villains like Toyman, Puzzler, and J. Wilbur Wolfingham, as part of a team called "The Fearsome Funsters".

In the 80's reboot, they fleshed out his backstory a bit more. He was the host of a children's television series called "The Uncle Oswald Show", and is obsessed with other people's attention. He hates being ignored more than anything else.

In the 00's, he got a redesign courtesy of another Superman villain, Lord Satanis. He starts a side-business where criminals like Intergang pay him to keep Superman distracted while they commit crimes in other parts of Metropolis.

He recently reappeared, sporting his original golden age look, in Doomsday Clock. Here he is being pistol whipped by the Comedian.

>Here he is being pistol whipped by the Comedian
Where?

Bloodsport, La Echantadora, Conduit

Sorry, forgot to attach the pic.

Youch!
Thats gotta hurt. Any other apperances? Maybe in live action or Cartoons?

He was in two episodes of the 60's Superman TV show. In his first appearance, Superman fights fire with fire by playing pranks on him (Superman was a bit of a troll on this show). In his second appearance, he teamed up Lex Luthor, Toyman, and a villain original to the show named the Wicked Warlock.

He appeared in one episode of the 80's Superman cartoon (pic related).

A character loosely based on him was also in two episodes of Lois & Clark.

Thanks.
Are there anyother Supes Villain you feel needs to be updated?

>blew up Coast City
>made more appearances in Hal's comics than Superman's since
no u

Why is Hank such a dick?
Even his wife hates him now.

>You can’t tell me Brainiac wouldn’t sell tickets.
Brainiac wouldn’t sell tickets. The general public is unaware that Supes even has his own roster of villains to begin with. None of them ever burst out of the obscure comic book bubble into the mainstream like Batman's villains. It's sad, but true.

Maybe Atomic Skull? General Sam Lane could be used more.

I don't really trust modern comic book writers to successfully revamp old characters, outside of a few exceptions like Geoff Johns and Grant Morrison.

Attached: New Puzzler.jpg (1024x1569, 731K)

That Puzzler looks hot.

They could stand to drop her outright obsession over the Supercock, it's too prominent for a character who isn't stalker-tier. Her bigger issue is that she's much too passive a character.

Superman could use a space movie, full on his off world crew for most of the flick. Brainiac cosmic villain back story him conquering worlds. Supes, Krypto and Supergirl go out and fuck him up. Lois, Perry, Jimmy, Batman, Alfred, Robin, Batgirl, Kelex/Kelor whatever have much smaller roles.

>Superman could use a space movie, full on his off world crew for most of the flick. Brainiac cosmic villain back story him conquering worlds.
Oh, like that TV show nobody watches with Superman's grandfather and his off-world crew?

No, that was an episode of the show.

I actually don't remember much about the plot of Brainiac Attacks, other than it involved Superman needing to get some kind of mcguffin that only exists in the Phantom Zone.

>with Superman's grandfather
I doubt the lack of interest is because of space user. Who gives a fuck about Superman's grandfather?

People who read comics and like Krryptonian politics. Id est: clearly not you.

I'd argue that Puzzler isn't a revamp, but the reuse of a name.

So clearly not enough people to bank a show on.

Exactly. So why the fuck would a movie about the same thing but with Kal-El go and make money?

>Metallo never made sense as a real thret to Superman.
He has the strongest body humanity is capable of building and his heart consists of Superman's weakness. One shouldn't forget that John Corben was/is Luthor's top assassin, he is the get-guy to fight Supes - he is smart and reliable enough to battle with Supes. DC should play up his assassin part and go make him go full posthuman combat-nanoborg. and what said.

Attached: Metallo.jpg (400x607, 30K)

I'm not the user that pitched it though, I'm the one that said Brainiac wouldn't sell tickets. I'd love to see a movie like he pitched but I don't think it'd break even at the box office. I just think it'd make even less if it starred Superman's grandfather rather than Supes himself.

Jax-Ur was a bigger Phantom Zoner before Superman 2.
They probably picked Zod because he has the best name

>have brainiac in movie
>zaps Superman into kandor
>use it as an excuse to introduce Supergirl
That's a good enough premise for a movie anyway

Was atomic skull really a Superman Villain?
I thought he was just a generic mook.

Superman villain. A d-lister, but still a Superman villain.

>Darkseid
>Superman villain

He's also really easy to explain to an audience. Most villains you need a second origin happening at the beginning of the movie. Zod is just another guy from Krypton, no real work needed on part of the writer.

The entire prologue of MoS is Zod's origin story.

And Superman's, it's easy to cram bother into the sequence. Zod is just there so the crew can be lazy. Just have some other guy also come from Krypton, his origin is understood by looking at Superman,s his powers are understood by looking at Superman. No extra work is necessary.

Still waiting on someone to write a Metallo/Parasite epic. Those two get no love. Wish someone would bring back some of the Morrison Rogues like New 52 Kryptonite Man and Nimrod as well.

Conduit. Dude was a better Hush in my opinion and I actually liked “The Death of Clark Kent”. Why can’t Jurgens bring that guy back instead of wanking Hank Henshaw all the time?

Attached: 8D875C6A-00EF-41FB-B5BB-F830F5E48361.jpg (359x584, 47K)

Probably that one space cowboy guy

What I would fucking give for a superman movie where he has to fight literally anyone else, even a shitter like Ultraman would be a nice change of pace

Add her to the Harem.
>Livewire
>Maxima
>Obsession
>Encantadora
>Hi-tech
>Puzzler

Evil superman is a really easy concept to work with, plus hes got ties to Kal's Dad and Hollywood loves that stuff

Have you seen the concept art for that Metallo? Christ we really doged a bullet with that one

Mxy does not work with sloth. Like at all

Dumbest post I've read all day, congrats

That works better honestly

oh my god

Attached: rob-mckinnon-metallo-batman-v-superman-2-1088195.jpg (850x565, 81K)

All it needed was legs. It's not like concept art is ever indicative of the final product.

Terra-Man. I hope that if they bring him back they go full 80s sci-fi, space western on his design.

You're forgetting Anguish, who was redesigned because her original version was too on-the-nose sexual.

Should add Livewire as a minor antagonist whose gimmick is that she really hates Superman but has a crush on/get wet by farmboy Clark.

Yeah he's underrated.

Not everyone needs to get wet over Superman.

Parasite

Shes been downgraded to a supergirl villian

Everyone is waiting for Superman to throw down with Brainiac

Which version of Brainiac can threaten Superman one million?
