The big problem IS that she comes out on top though. Usagi looks like a complete door mat for taking it, Chizu looks like a chump for being pickpocketed by a child, no matter how talented and it's another mountain of bodies caused by Kitsune who purposely tried to mess with powerful players when before she was mostly all about not getting caught.The stupid stick is in effect all around the board and regardless of how much her actions push the plot forward they ultimately result in nothing as the whole affair is rendered moot. Her actions are addressed but not dealt with, they're basically saying OH THAT KITSUNE." But what does anyone learn? And this was following up stories where she got a retard killed and nearly got everyone killed by a zombie army.
There's a point where enough is enough and we passed it ages ago.

His wife got sick and had a serious stroke, then his 20 months old grandson Leonardo died - one day they found him unconcious and not breathing - then Stan's wife died. It was a rough time for him and it shows in his work (and culminates in Senso). He also did not release a single issue of Usagi's ongoing for 3 years, focusing on other things (like Senso). At least he remarried, so he found some happiness to combat the sad memories.

One 100% canon TMNT crossover on Usagi's side was Shades of Green, which introduced him to Chizu. It also references his previous meetings with Leo, so the three shorts are apparently canon too. Then we have the recent IDW/DH one shot, which may or may not be canon (lack of Keiko suggests the latter), but is actually pretty cool.

Because as much as I love the way Stan works with ink, Usagi looks great in color too. It may look better for new readers as well and will allow IDW to reprint and sell collections of DH stuff without legal issues. And after the very, very pretty recent IDW TMNT crossover, Stan may have decided that's how he wants to do it now. After all, working with IDW on that TMNT/Usagi one shot is probably what convinced him to leave DH.

Well, the whole shipment was destroyed and the guy running the operation is dead, so the treaty is much less important now. Kagemaru once again failed to prove his right to lead the Neko Ninja and Hikiji's coffers got a bit thinner, so even with Kitsune's cuntishness it's kind of a win.

The funny thing is, Kitsune got better as a person and more careful as a thief after Noodles. Then she adopted Kiyoko and she relapsed HARD. Another funny thing is that when Kiyoko was running with Usagi for a few issues, she was much less of a kleptomaniac than usual (she stole some food, but gave Usagi his money back - can you imagine?) and in general was a much more likeable character. But when she and Kitsune are together, they are constantly enabling each other when it comes to stealing and one-upping the other.

Stan included the tokage lizards to represent "animal life" because all the characters are animals. Of course, other non-mammal life appears now and then; the occasional owl or frog. And then there's the horses, so... it's not super consistent. But it makes some kind of sense for the funny-animal setting.
Just an art goof. It's actually fixed in the TPB.

If there is one worry I have, it is that the story will never really get a proper conclusion. It's been running for a long time now, and publisher/distributor issues aside, Stan isn't getting any younger. Meanwhile, we have a whole bunch of things that have yet to be resolved. I mean, I can imagine Stan sticking with tradition and having the final story send off Usagi out on another journey, but it would at least be nice to get some closure on plot points that were last brought up years ago in real time before that happens.
