Hordak ordered her to be executed, Catra being the little momma girl she is convinced him she could find worth in keeping her around.
We get a back story of how she became Shadow Weaver, she was jealous that Glimmers dad was more powerful then her and hated that No one would listen to her.
Cutting back to present day Shadow Weaver pretends she really loves Catra and Needs her but it was just a trick to get catra to bring her a medallion filled with magic cocaine. Catra cries when she finds Shadow Weaver escaped and then Hordak finds out and the season ends with him killing Catra for failing him, but also cause she tried to lie about it.
We also get a shot of Shadow Weaver standing over a sleeping Adora.

I think it works, Shadow Weaver can't have much dignity left. She trained a kid with magical potential to fight the Horde only for that plan to fall apart and when she thought he betrayed her she spared his life because they had formed some kind of bond, ended up joining the Horde she meant to destroy, helping the Horde probably helped get her old student killed anyways, made the same mistake of raising another magical person as her own only for Adora to actually betray her, got her shit slapped by her boss, apparently lost her magic, and now she's lost her job to her cat.
