The Megidos in general have an entangled path with both English and one of his components.

Plus it would finally bring a true end to Aradia's character in some way. Actual finality. Which is what we should be hoping for in an epilogue.

I feel like the epilogues try to make the point that the characters combine the multiple interpretations held by both canon and fanon sources into one. That the ultimate selves are out of the hand of the author and represent a collective understanding of the character. But that it falls flat because it’s only the parts of the fanon that hussies ghost writers like.

It doesn't make sense that she would suddenly start thinking about gender and what makes her a female just now. Even if she was spending time with Calliope, who also had no problem wanting to be female troll without societal influence.

In Meat which is the more important one, after the LE fight, John (who is wounded with poisoned LE tooth lodged in him) discovers Terezi who had left to find Vriska way back when. She's near starvation and John himself is fucked up so they take shelter in his Dad's car which they come across.

After Terezi eats whatever the fuck is on hand (shaving cream and tobacco), they both talk about how utterly fucked things have become and how the shit they are dealing with his stupid (John personal bullshit and Terezi's shit involving Vriska). They have fun jabs at each other and have some tender moments together. Terezi eventually decides to remove the poison tooth which eventually escalates to crazy rough sex between them in the back of his dad's car.

After the crazy sex, John retcon warps himself and Terezi back to Earth C, but the poison is already taking its toll and John is dying. John dies mid love confession to her much to her sorrow

Terezi then takes John's body and puts it in Dad's wallet. After a chat with Narrator Dirk, she heads off with him in the postscript to fuck knows where with the intention of saving John somehow

Pre-scratch Rose had no direct presence in her life, and Roxy was shown to be comfortable in being different than her by recognizing that despite CotL being pretty much one of the only things left she had to understand her mom by, Roxy really preferred writing that was much different and was even a bit critical, calling it heavy-handed and inaccessibly written. So it's not as though she felt the need to emmulate her mother's identity.

On another note, the protagonist of CotL was androgenous, so Roxy clearly would have been exposed to the idea of being genderless, but chose to be a girl quite enthusiastically instead.

Jake takes care of his and Janes baby while gamzee and Jane vigorously fuck with ample honks and graphic details. The epilogue is weird.

I haven't played much of MGS2, so that comparison makes me think that MGS2 is probably terribly written. I hear such great things about MGS2, and I really need to play it one of these days. I just find it pretty weird to see fans have the gall to call these epilogues "brilliant" when the writing goes to great lengths to assassinate beloved characters and go against what an epilogue should do (which is tie up lose ends, or at least end the fucking story).

Homestuck thinks it's Ulysses, not the Odyssey. Hussie however is no James Joyce, and seems to miss that the PBS video praised him not because it was metatextual but rather about the idea that people would willingly read a highly obtuse work for the narrative payoffs. Homestuck was never a story about stories, its hypertext elements were set dressing that made it fun. Homestuck was four kids playing a videogame, and videogame concepts applied to mythology and some real life stuff. But somewhere along the way Hussie's ass got stuck in his head that he can make a story entirely meta and ironic and satisfy people.

The real irony is that Hussie basically went against his own thoughts on most of this. Especially the irony part.

Due to Alt-Calliope destroying the Green Sun, there are no First Guardians in Universe C, so Lord English cannot enter it by typical means. His corpse ended up on Candy Earth-C, but Calliope-Jade ate his body and left. Fittingly Caliborn meets his end on the very same planet that he was hatched on.

It'll never end, and thus Hussie can never really be free. Narratively, the epilogue is basically Homestuck 2. It has all the same characters, but after a time skip and has an entirely new threat/villain. It even has a prologue. An epilogue is traditionally the last word. Wraps everything up and gives a little fanservice, usually. But what we have currently is a novella that ends in a cliffhanger, implying more will be coming.

Because it didn't work. Terezi needed a partner who cared about her to fill the void in her heart, someone she could be honest with, but still tease. Dave and Karkat are way too self-absorbed to do that. Gamzee is a bad drug. Vriska was the closest parallel Terezi could find for that, but it was still centered on Vriska, and Terezi could just temporarily feel like the hole in her heart wasn't there for a while when with her. John is the only one who could fill it for real.

I expect shit every time and I'm still let down.

Hard to say with how much of his actual involvement in the epilogue is up in the air, but especially with Dirk it feels like he's owning up to what he did to Homestuck as a comic. If we take Dirk as his self-insert, then his ascent into being a villain is basically allegorical for Hussie's role as a writer. Writers control all of the characters, after all. There was something charming about the kids and their strange interactions with their guardians. John's pranky dad, Rose having all these ironic fake-sincere moments with her plastered yet genius mom, Dave's a ninja; so is his brother, Jade has a dog that can bend space and time. I didn't mind that the story expanded to 12 other kids with similarly funny relationships with their guardians.

I stopped reading this shit at some point; I can't even remember when. It feels like ten years. It felt so good back then and still does now watching this old animation.

Homestuck became the worst thing ever because it started by being one of the best things ever. It's made even worse in that the majority of fans continue to support it for some insane reason.

It isn’t. I understand how you’re confused because it’s clear you’re kind of dumb, but none of these were ever some pretentious commentary on how stories were written. Most were parodying common game elements. Homestuck was never “four friends vs the literal story”, Homestuck was always “four friends play a videogame”. And by Hussie’s own admission, the best you can get is it as a creation myth. Because that is what it originally was.

The point was always some kind of audience participation. Seems like the metafictionality ramped up as people started talking up the comic to be this important thing with serious literary intent or whatever.

I gathered that was more Dirk talking than John, but the fear was unfounded anyway. John is the most honest person Terezi could ever talk to, and they did a lot of talking and getting to know each other better. More than any other relationship, they'd work it out.

Here then, super spoilers. Dirk is the narrator of Meat for the first and last thirds. Calliope is the narrator of the second third. Calliope is also the narrator of all of Candy. The fight is between malicious narrators controlling the destiny of others for their own purposes (Dirk), and ones controlling it only to protect them from external influences (Calliope). Calliope literally explains as much towards the end of Candy.

Today, all of /vg/ looks exactly like the cancer Homestuck became and I didn't want to deal with the awful direction the story was taking or the community anymore. I have positive memories of the story, animations, and music and just pretend it was abandoned.

I barely understand what is being discussed here and from the impression I get from those poor bastards who continued reading this to the end and couldn't help themselves and read whatever this new dump of content is, I don't have any reason to regret stopping.

The clusterfuck that was Homestuck should have been studied or observed by academics in literature. It's an Internet household name yet in real life nobody knows about it. It's a perfect one-time phenomenon that existed before the insane money-driven content creation of YouTube or Twitch.

In Meat it was a gradual shift starting from pragmatism. In Candy it was accelerated by Gamzee starting an abusive blackrom with her and worsening her personality.

Jane was just being practical (and under cloun influence.)

Still, it's clear that she thought about sexuality (which topic she groups in with gender in the epilogue, mind you) when she talks to Dirk about it. Interestingly, she seems much more one-track minded about it than he does, despite neither one of them growing up in civilization. It may not something you figure out young, but it's something that would have definitely come up in that Dirk is interested in guys and not girls, and what that really means in regards to gender. But she never talked about being uncomfortable with behaving like a girl. She was too busy alchemizing dresses and wanting to have Dirk's children.

Really the bottom line is that no matter how you slice it, she was very vividly written as female throughout the comic and the whole gender arc, like several aspects of her Epilogue writing, is in dissonance with her established characterization.

She said it was talking and living with Calliope that started her thinking like that, so blame Callie as usual. Still funny to see that bitch flip the fuck out at seeing Alt-Calliope and hightail it out of both stories the moment black hole-eyes appeared.

Which also doesn't make sense considering that in the original comic, Calliope was pretty expressly comfortable as identifying as female as well to the point of making her trollsona a girl. I would say I don't get why the hate but since I did not have to wait three years for this to happen (started reading it first time in like March) my opinions and thoughts about it are completely different from most people here.

This wasn't a fun or entertaining read but it's pretty clear Hussie wasn't going for that. I read the candy route first and, well, yeah, it really did feel like a strange trip into fanfic land with bullshit drama and seriously off characterisation. Meat... well, I'll admit, I enjoyed Dirk and Calliope fighting over control of the narrative, and the cast acting like morons felt appropriately icky. I wish I hadn't read these epilogues, but as a work of metatextual bullshit it absolutely succeeds at being just that.

Rosemary was just the first of the now-many examples of Homestuck relationships being literally "stalk them until they love you" and it's meant to be taken as wholesome. Part of why Homestuck trying to be moralistic feels batshit.

Basically just an acceleration of their expanding abilities. Rose's Light powers make her aware of all fortuitous routes, and eventually she started to become aware of all routes simultaneously. Such vast knowledge normally cannot be contained within a lesser being's body, and so people who realize their Ultimate Self die as a result and have to inhabit robot bodies instead. Dirk's conscious awareness of his alternate selves prompted the same thing, but he could handle the strain better because he's always been dealing with stuff like this. Note that when Obama promoted Dave to become aware of all his alternate selves Dave dropped dead on the spot. He couldn't handle it, until Obama escorted Dave's soul to the waiting Davebot.

Similarly Terezi's powers allow her to enter a similar state of mind, but only temporarily, so she's not in danger of dying. But it was still enough for Dirk to invite her to come along, as she's an emerging higher being too.

I can't be bothered to read this shit again but Rose seemed to consider Ultimate Self to be a natural evolution of god tier abilities. Dirk and Rose are just ascending or whatever much faster because their powers put them in direct contact with their alternate selves.

Terezi's deal was shown in Homestuck itself long before the epilogues, where she explains to a missing Vriska that she's always felt hollow and being with Vriska allowed her to ignore that feeling, but she doesn't think she'll ever truly feel complete, and it's definitely not with Vriska. Vriska herself never receives this message because she's so far absorbed in her own ego trip nobody else matters to her at that point. Then John comes along and does the impossible and actually makes her feel complete instead, indicating by her abandoning her suicidal search for Vriska and ignoring Vriska's texts, because they don't matter to her anymore. She's finally free from chasing after a hollow existence that barely includes her, and instead has found one that fits every want and need she has.

Seriously though, Johnrezi largely seems to be built on seeking something bigger that they’re missing - John missing the game and what’s “real”, Terezi missing “humanity” for lack of a better word. From Terezi’s standpoint this is wholesome, but it remains to be seen whether they’d last in a normal relationship in a normal life. I think they could but I din’t think either of them will ever be satisfied with life

Vriska will likely be the connection between the canon/noncanon timelines that lets Terezi pull something over both Dirk and Calliope, but saying that Vriska is going to cuck John is retarded.

It was the point of no return for her character as a whole. Her death on the meteor perfectly ended her character arc. It ended on a perfect bittersweet note, because although she'd fucked up and forced Terezi to kill her, she was at least allowed to sail off into the sunset with John, even if it was just a doomed timeline version of him.
Then Hussie fucked it up by dragging her back into the spotlight like some kind of narrative revenant. But by this point the comic was beginning to circle the drain anyway, so what the fuck ever.
