Perfuma is stick thin and practically wears rags because she's the leader of what is essentially a hippy commune, Scorpia looks like an actual scorpion and by default conveys the big, dumb, lovable oaf, Mermista is fit because she's a swimmer (I would have also considered her skin, but apparently she's a Southeast Asian) I like the designs.

The show's not that amazing, is the thing. I watched it, didn't hate it, had a funny take on a lot of it, but all anyone wants to talk about is its impact on women's rights like it's some kind of wealthy Bluedog political candidate who SAYS nice things about women and minorities, but let's be honest, is mainly in it for the insider trading.

If you strip away the politics - of which there is none in the proper show anyway - the show runs dry pretty fast. The only character with growth in the first season is Katra. Adora is pretty dull, Glimmer is annoying, Bo is background decoration. The world is sparse and empty, ruled by princesses who often have fewer than five subjects. The Horde has no structure and everyone does basically whatever they want. Goals are unclear, and as far as I can tell Eternia is tucked away inside some little pocket dimension as a twist to make it irrelevant on a cosmic scale too.

I think it would have been rapidly forgotten if not for the outrage mobs wouldn't go at it every time it's mentioned. Hell, I enjoyed it, but it isn't something where I'd buy merch to show my fondness, or draw fanart of.

So Netflix has been forced to reduce the 'seasons' to shitty little 7 episode seasonlets since they can't afford to throw more money than that down the toilet to pretend the show is successful.

I think this show, and perhaps some other "progressive" media lately has been demonstrating why it's so common to have love stories as a side conflict.

With Adora, Glimmer, and Bo, I think Glimmer is supposed to be straight, Adora is gay, and Bo is mega gay. As a consequence, there's no intra-group conflict with them. None of them are going to fall in love, they aren't going to fight over who gets the only guy, and their relationships are purely professional. Go here, do the thing, pack it in, go home.

Somebody compared this show to AtLA, but in that show you had Aang falling in love with Katara and grappling with the fact that he had higher responsibilities and greater spiritual calling. People were telling him it was inappropriate to love anyone romantically, least of all during a time of strife, but the kid couldn't help himself. Katara, being straight-laced, was running into the same moral quandaries, and being older she also had a better refined variety of worries than Aang. Then with Zuko, he had this thing where his girlfriend was eventually on the opposite side of the conflict from him, and that was a whole deal.

If all you have are lesbians with functional relationships, you've got no story. You just have a fat girl and her lover showing up to the team meetings for pancakes, and that's boring. There was some tension with Katra being attached to Adora, but she broke the attachment at the end of season one so it feels like that story is over. Adora herself was pretty bland and she never developed interest in anyone else.

And what's the show got left? The politics of an empty planet with nobody in it? A fight with the Horde for a patch of forest inhabited by twelve hippies?

Ultimately it's all just a bit low effort mixed with poor time management. She-ra would have worked better as an episodic show or with Adora and Catra spending a whole first season in the horde. Already established as partners.

Just finished the new episodes. There wasn't anything as impressive as "The Promise," but it also didn't have any real low points like having an entire episode about Glimmer angst. They did have an episode about Bow acting stupid about his parents, but it somehow felt like Bow's feelings were more justified and the episode managed to work in some lore as well.

That one Forbes review complained about nothing really happening in these episodes, which I think is only half true. The show is clearly going places, it's just that these episodes being all set-up and Netflix's release schedule fucks up the impact.

I got a question. Is the universe non-observable from the surface of Eternia? Entrapta seemed mystified when Hordack was going on about different planets, stars, galaxies etc. And this little phenomenon came up again in the last episode when they were discussing a location you could see the stars. I'm guessing Hordack hails from another world and the horde is much larger than the forces that are on the planet right now.

Light Hope (whose totally not evil) explains in season one that Mara went crazy (Because bitch be crazy) and for no good reason whatsoever used her powers to send Etheria to the dark dimension. So other then the sun and some moons there are no other astral bodies.

this season was great, full of character development, great interactions, reveals and even more lore. I was worried about the number of episodes but when they manage to exceed expectations and end on that awesome cliffhanger, all my fears went away. I think it's because the first season focused entirely on setting up the world and characters and now that everyone's here the show can finally explore more complex themes like Entrapta's true motivations, Catra's relationship with Shadow Weaver and Glimmer seeing how futile her moral standing can be.
my absolute favorite parts were when Adora presented an extremely detailed scenario where they all lose and comes clean with the pressure she feels and I LOVE how smug and dominant Cara was at the beginning and then she finally gets her comeuppance. there's no redemption here, she absolutely feels no remorse for the horrible things she does. she's not gonna get S3 Zuko'd and I love it.

I've always liked Adora. Sure, they rushed her switching sides arc, but having the protagonist be a reformed villain motivated by guilt over her past actions and leaving old friends behind is something that appeals to me. I also love how she's the "straight man" to all the goofy rebellion characters, except when she gets PG drunk.

Glimmer could be annoying in S1, but her main issues were at least resolved in that season and they gave her a refreshingly darker tone this season.

And I've also always liked Bow, and I like how they established that Bow always looked up to Entrapta and is now trying to be the rebellion's Entrapta. If Entrapta ever goes back to the rebellion, I hope they do something with Bow and Entrapta and their record logs, romantic or not.

The only canonly gay characters (at the moment) are a few side characters that only show up for like five minutes in the first season and the final episode of the second season.

The "season" was really obviously cut in two. There wasn't any "real" ending point all that different from the other episodes, I felt.

All in all, I really liked it. Some of the humor is pretty weak, though, but a surprising amount is great.

As says, I too feel that the villains are far more interesting than the heroes, and I'm always pumped up for Catra-Scorpia- Entrapa hijinxs, especially with what's been happening between Entrapta and Hordak. Really cool stuff.

The main characters(and good guys in general), sadly, are lackluster compared to the villains. Wouldn't go so far as to call them boring(I particularly like Adora), but in contrast to the Horde, they're nowhere near as interesting or deep.

I knew I should've known who he was, so it bugged the hell out of me while watching the episode. Really good episode, that, though it felt slightly contradictory to what we've been shown before. I'd have to rewatch season 1 to be sure, though.

in He-Man, the Masters always win and Skeletor always loses but in She-Ra, the rebels are the underdogs fighting against the almighty Horde. She-Ra's world naturally lends itself to a more creative type of writing.
