All I know is that when asked if he'd like to talk about Tiny Toons while on a talk show, Jones said, "If YOU had a retarded step child in your family, would YOU want to talk about them."
Animation should have writers, but if you're doing a visually oriented comedy the dialog should be written on the storyboards, not on dedicated scripts, because there's a lot of visual ideas that simply can't be written
Yeah, but Tiny Toons was a first run syndicated series, meaning they had to pump out 65 half-hour episodes in under a year for the first season. The assembly line process of script driven animation was the only way that could be done.
I'm sure he wouldn't have liked either of those things about it, but I think his main objection was the basic premise of taking the Looney Tunes characters, making a bunch of OCS DO NOT STEAL out of them, and placing them in a school setting. I just don't get the vibe he actually watched it enough to have really strong opinions on the production values etc., or would have wanted to, because I think the whole concept just pissed him off.
Jones really didn't have any place criticizing Tiny Toons and Space Jam, as he'd already been dragging the Looney Tunes brand through a quality challenged mudpit throughout the 80s. Remember his god awful sequels to Duck Dodgers and One Froggy Evening that he shat out in the 80s for a quick buck?
Sure, but the man had entire decades of solid to godly work beforehand, he had every right to disapprove of what these newcomers were bringing to the table.
Not to mention that his 80's and 90's output, lackluster as it could be (at least the 80's Coyote in which he catches the Roadrunner is a keeper), was a blip in the radar compared to the much more mainstream Tiny Toons; only nerds like us are even aware of those outings and it's unlikely they did any major harm to the brand whatsoever.
Not that Tiny Toons or Space Jam did either, really, but again if anyone should be allowed to dismiss those productions it's Chuck Jones. You simply dont have to agree with him.
Man was speaking from his position as an author. Stuff like Porky Pig peeing himself may be a gag most of us think nothing of but given how close he was to the characters he'd take such deviations from his vision much more seriously.

One would think it was done purely to make the characters more interesting and the cartoon more esthetic? Honestly to me it was huge upgrade, made the show look more modern. If you compare it to the "regular" Loony Tunes the colors are actually pretty putrid. Actually Tiny Toons still looks modern to me to this day.

Chuck Jones' main objection was that he was not involved in it. Similar to John K, except Jones has a better claim. Chuck didn't like any of the latter WB animation efforts.
As much as I love his work on the old Looney Tunes, the guy had a reputation as a crotchety credit hog who attacked his contemporaries and demeaned his co-workers. There are stories of how he berated the Space Jam team at a dinner held in their honor. Even if he wasn't wrong, it was kind of a dick move.
He used to get pissed at anyone who did not like What's Opera, Doc?

From a producer standpoint, maybe. From a writer's standpoint, he's got a point. Having Sylvester declare proudly "WE GOT BALLS!" or giving Bugs and Daffy kid versions of themselves are not things you'd want the Looney Tunes to do.
And I'd argue he probably also hated working on most of his own later LT efforts during the 80s, but had to since DePatie-Freleng had converted their studio over to Marvel Productions and were making Dr. Suess and Hasbro cartoons, while WB didn't have their own in-house staff again until the mid 80s.
