Maybe in another 20 years after Disney buys DC
Shazam is a dumb name for a superhero. They should come up with a new one. Like Captain... Captain... Captain something. I dunno. Guy definitely looks like a captain. Also getting some strong letter M vibes from him. Can't explain why.
Your social circle sucks
But he's right
What moron names a superhero after an App?
That's a pretty marvelous idea user.
My dad got mad at me for seeing it ahead of him. Apparently he grew up on the comics.
>adapt Geoff Johns' shitty version of Shazam
>it sucks and no one cares
I dont get how anyone can complain about it being corny, then go and love the MCU movies.
No, but it's doing fine anyway.
user, this is a bait thread. Expect more as the MCU dies.
>doing fine
>couldn't even get to $400 million
Red letter media loved Shazam mote than Captain Marvel.
Watched CM yesterday and I'm honestly horrified by how retarded mainstream audiences are. I have been very whiney about how Ragnarok was the weakest MCU movie but holy shit, CM did literally nothing for me. Calling it boring would be a compliment. Even Ragnarok was a thousand times more entertaining and I would have never guessed that I would ever say something like that. What a waste of resources. That being said, Shazam was easily better which only showcases how much Disney has brainwashed all those normie retards
Please do not bully Billy. He is doing his best and is unfair to compare him with based Carol.
I just want this to be a nice Shezam thread.
Seriously, where are the next art/edit coming out? This is actually a pretty funny idea.
Also yes Carol is Based.
Normalfag
The MCU is far from dead.
My coworkers loved it and called it best DC movie because it was grimdark.
Millenials, :-/
I would rather this be a company war thread then another shitty fetishist shezam thread.
Captain Miracle?
Fucking magical realm bullshit I tell you
There was a bit at the end of HISHE Captain Marvel. Maybe they'll do it for Shazam too.
Don't hijack threads though.
>Billy convincing Supes to come surprise Freddy
Ragnarok was decent enough when you consider the low standards of writing in most action flicks. The main thing about ragnarok that pissed me off is that it's really a Hercules film, so they pissed away the chance to get the next generation of Avengers started instead of hiring a scriptwriter that could make a decent Thor movie.
Don’t you mean wasn’t?
I don’t know, that part with Billy’s mom was pretty cold
nah
No one wants to make art about DC characters unless they're Harley
True.
Aside from that.
What type of Relationship would Carol and The Shazam Family have if she adopted all of them? (Assuming they keep their powers).
What adventures would they get into?
Maybe an Apokolips adventure. Has space stuff and gods
Shazam doesn't belong to modern audiences with their shit taste
Mr. Mind takes over a Brood hiveship
Tawny and Chewie literal catfight
Warren Traveller & Magic-Sivana team-up
>My feeling when they will FINALLY do a cinematic adaption of JLA/Avengers
The board room scene might be a little too scary for younger kids, but overall it was a fun family-friendly movie. I'm surprised that it didn't do better because parents are always complaining about how there aren't enough family movies that they can feel okay about taking their kids to see.
That'll be the end of comic books since Disney plans on shutting down marvel comics
The comics maybe, but not the movies
>Posts a gif of red letter media who liked Shazam way more than Captain Marvel
Gee that's embarrassing
Thank god for that and DC is long past the point where it needs to go.
Captain Marvel franchise is for 4channel not for general audience
It's a dumb name for a Superman-expy superhero. Seems like something for Zatara or Mandrake the Magician.
>by how retarded mainstream audiences are
Transformers
I know it's wrong to laugh at DC fans because they're usually mentally disabled but HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>”Shazam is a dumb name
It's not! I also prefer it to Captain Marvel, just can't stop thinking of Carol when I hear that name
Jesus fucking christ it's 4am I'm alone don't show me that LaLlorona shit.
>
I kinda like it. Makes Billy stand out.
>Adult people
>watching movies for kids
Shazam was fucking awesome. It's my favorite capeshit right now
>Carol
>Based
Does that mean marvel's spider-man is also kids movie?
Eh, Carol will always be Ms Marvel to me.
>normie
People are sheep. The public zeitgeist is that DC movies are bad, so now they think any movie by fact of being made by DC is bad regardless of individual quality because cause and effect does not exist in the double digit IQ mind
>zeitgeist is that DC movies are bad
Exists for a reason and is slowly changing.
It's cute how you DC morons are still dumb enough to believe that
> you DC morons
Wow, you're way of the mark on that one.
>WB makes Shazam
>Jokes about his name in movie
>big ass lightning bolt on his chest
>not one tongue in cheek Harry Potter reference
>there's even a damn wizard
It is though, fucktard
SHAZAM!
Sure it is
And I bet you still think DC is winning in animated movies, cartoons, video games, and television too
Whatever, go troll some more
Why the fuck do you 'tards keep replying to them? It's like you purposely wanna be fed slop.
>Mousetards shitting up the thread again
>”Shazam is a dumb name for a superhero
They're right. Why doesn't he have a cool name, like Captain Marvel? I guess Based Marvel are the only ones who can do anything right.
They're so devastated their comics come from Disney that baiting is all they have left.
>"Will Shazam ever be cool to general audiences?" he asks as the actor portraying the superhero does that stupid reddit dance
This is one of those superhero movies like the Rocketeer that will probably end up doing better on rentals and on streaming services. People will watch it at home, enjoy it and then wonder why they either didn't hear of it or didn't give it a chance when it was still in theaters.
After Shazam and Aquaman, I think DC has finally found a style that works for them. It's a much more kid-friendly style than what the MCU has been doing, and it reminds me of those 80's/90's adventure movies that kids obsessed over.
This sort of style probably means those it won't be "cool" to general audiences of adults, but I think kids will embrace it. That's probably the best possible situation for a character like Shazam/Captain Marvel.
Never. It is Spy Kids of this generation.
Or Spider-Man 1.
Oh you sweet simple Dkek
This was only temporary. You're going back to the DC we all know and loathe in a few months
>DC is winning in animated movies, cartoons, video games, and television too
It literally is on all of those except Games because of Spider-Man.
DC animated movies have sucked balls ever since Flashpoint Paradox.
How many best animated oscars does DC have?
When was the last time a DC animation won an Oscar?
When was the last time DC had a "good" vidya since Arkham Asylum?
I'm give you a couple of the streaming shows, though.
Animated Oscar is unironically worse than make up, the judges didn't even watched all entries and even stated it on their votes.
Seriously how the fuck people in charge or Oscars allowed it to happen? This shit was pretty ridiculous and feels like they are openly shitting on this category.
>give you a couple of the streaming shows, though.
Too bad the service itself is a massive failure
>When was the last time a DC animation won an Oscar?
Irrelevant, MCU spend 20 movies and 10 years without an oscar, plus the fact Animated Feature turned into a joke after the "didn't watch by my kids liked" controversy. DC consistently makes animated movies better than Marvel ones.
>When was the last time DC had a "good" vidya since Arkham Asylum?
Wolf Among Us, DC Lego villains, Injustice 2(since you like awards so much, it won "best fighting game of the year)
Like Tony?
>DC consistently makes animated movies better than Marvel ones.
This is a fallacy because Marvel/Disney do not consistently make animated movies every year like WB/DC.
>Irrelevant, MCU spend 20 movies and 10 years without an oscar, plus the fact Animated Feature turned into a joke after the "didn't watch by my kids liked" controversy. DC consistently makes animated movies better than Marvel ones.
Black Panther won 3 Oscars, more than any capefilm has ever won. Also, that tallies Marvel with more awards than DC. And fuck off with your "muh statue doesn't count because of some arbitrary reason" excuse.
>Wolf Among Us
That's 1.
>DC Lego Villians
Marvel Superheroes 2 was better.
>Injustice 2
>Casual NRShit
>That's 1.
It's not even DC
Captain Magic?
Right cuz marvel has so much going on in those catagories
Injustice won best fighting game award 2017.
Make up your mind, awards matter or not?
>"And fuck off with your "muh statue doesn't count because of some arbitrary reason" excuse." -(You)
Doesn't matter when what they do have completely destroys what DC has got
Quality over Quantity DChump
Vertigo is part of DC.
How can people ever know his name is "Shazam" anyway if he'll never be able to say it himself without revealing his identity or "disappearing" to anyone?
>dragged my friends to go see Shazam
>they pretty much loved it
>my bestie says "I dunno they tried too hard to be like deadpool and marvel"
He's right, it's a quipfest. Funny how DC only succeed when they ape the Marvel formula for success.
Captain Sparklefingers
I mean there's no doubt that it was the most Marvel out of the DC films, but I think it had a certain genuine heart to it that most Marvel movies lack.
He can call himself Shazam by writting the name in his blog or youtube channel.
>DC only succeed when they ape the Marvel formula for success.
you clearly haven't seen Shitzam's box office
Green Lantern was the only DCEU movie officially created using the "marvel formula" tho.
>second forbes it only needed 230 million to break even
>Already on 330
Is making a great profit.
Forbes are either stupid or missed one component.
There's the 80-100 million for production budget, probably around 100 million for advertisement, and then there's the cut that theaters take.
Rule of thumb is a movie to make 3 times their production budget. So Shazam still made it but do you think this is good enough? It's also the lowest comicbook movie box office in years.
I meant success at being an enjoyable movie, not box office.
>tfw you get to see the Marvel and DC universes make out on the big screen
The marketing was horrible. I'm getting fucking triggered by movies that sneak things in like flossing. The movie was fine. Convenient though.
>Animated Oscar is unironically worse than make up, the judges didn't even watched all entries and even stated it on their votes.
Is that how Suicide Squad won an Oscar for best hair & makeup?
I don't remember seeing any commercials or ads for it at all. The only trailers I saw were ones that someone posted here.
Black Panther won Oscars because it was the token black film made only by blacks, so not winning any award is racist, and puts you on Disney's shitlist while we are at it. So despite it being a horrible movie, it won awards.
Captain Marvel will win Oscars for the same reason, for being the token feminist movie. It will win an Oscar next year despite being so bad. You can quote me.
Although to be fair, the Oscars last year only had terrible movies nominated, so it's not like BP had a tough time.
>Forbes are either stupid or missed one component.
oh yeah, two different writers at Forbes don't know anything about box office, but user here does
>probably around 100 million for advertisement
>when Guardians of the Galaxy had 80 million
It wasn't that great of a movie, but it was neat to see how much fun people seemed to have with Black Panther. There were all of these clips of black people in traditional African clothing going to see the movie. A lot of them weren't the usual superhero movie audience (grandmothers, etc.).
Captain Marvel didn't seem to inspire the same kind of fun, no matter how hard they marketed it.
>Captain Marvel will win Oscars for the same reason
not unless Disney buys them too (not really difficult to happen)
because Wonder Woman was being touted as the movie to get the Oscars for the exact same reason and didn't even get a single nomination
That one girl that Sivana and the sociologist were interviewing at the beginning did say that the Wizard dressed like someone out of Harry Potter, but yeah, thought WB would stretch it a bit more.
My sister enjoyed since it carries the merit of being the first MCU female film.
that woman is the director's wife by the way
A lot of people saw it, so a lot of people probably feel the same way as your sister. If she found a female character that she can relate to and that inspires her to read or see more superhero stuff, that's really cool.
>Endgame is sold out for the weekend
>people who buy tickets at the theater go to see one of the other cape films available
Still it's nice to see that people are willing to go watch other movies even if it's not Endgame they're seeing.
No she doesn't really care, she tells me that it's a waste of time for her busy schedule.
Here's my theater for Shazam in 20 minutes time. I've got no idea what's going on anymore. It had a couple of sold showings when Endgame opened here two days ago as well
Captain Thunder
Forgot my pic
>officialdanceofthezoomergeneration.gif
It was marketed to children. Yea Forums liked it because Yea Forums likes things children like and DCucks will take any victory they can get.
>BillyCarol threads ensured to be Yea Forums staple for the next decade
Good.
Endgame is selling out and clueless parents who didn't get tickets ahead of time are using Shazam to pacify their sniffling kids.
This is why Shazam came out when it did. It's Endgame's th-thanks, grandma.
Captain Marvin?
>14 years old child was doing better as superhero than supercuck
what did WB meant by this?
His name should be Captain Marbles
The most reasonable post ITT didn't get a response. I wonder why that is.
Captain Mooseknuckle.
>Endgame is selling out
Nope. This is just 15 minutes later
And Shazam is now sold out except 3 seats. It's really weird
Probably just parents yikesing at the Endgame runtime once they get to the theater and buying Shazam tickets for the six children they brought with them instead.
Shazam somehow getting a second wind and pulling any sort of meaningful box office after Endgame comes out just confirms the kino cape bubble has popped and Deadpool 3 will be PG-13 and feature Ryan Reynolds flossing.
Or it could be a random occurrence at a random theater. Shazam is gonna get jobber rocked out of the top 5.
Yeah I posted the theater and I dont think this is the norm. It's just odd that it's happening at all and has happened other days as well
>He's right, it's a quipfest.
Shazam's humor is mostly situational. The only time Billy """"quips"""" in the movie, he immediately gets punished for it for not taking Sivana seriously.
Shazam isn't expected to go out of the top 5
Same Disney is a great brand but marvel flicks are sadly samey and boring.
Exposition, setting up some paper thin villain and jokes for 90 minutes then 30 minutes of super hero action. Anyone that sees these beyond a one time watch /pop corn movie is a mouth breather or under 14.
Why would you ask the opinion of people who didn’t see the movie?
I saw it and it was entertaining my normie friends enjoyed it too. My buddy who hates comic stuff mostly enjoyed it because it was standalone and didn’t require to watch 20 movies to get it.
I agree it seems like they have figured out a tone and departed from synders style which we all figured would be necessary for success.
Marvel has a formula that works but I can’t say I love all their movies at least 10 out of the 20 were straight up boring. Even die hard normies didn’t like iron man 2, Thor 2, hulk, avengers 2. I know many that didn’t watch ant man 1 or 2 because it seemed dumb in a surface level way. I think people over estimate these movies captain marvel was a great example. Makes a billion dollars but most people I know irl found it meh my buddy even fell asleep during it
Which is part of the reason marvel is so gay. comics and cartoons take aback seat to the endless b action movies. I don’t love everything dc does but I like that I can watch an animated movie or read a comic book about a character that isn’t being pushed in movies
The jokes were better and not told at inappropriate times also it makes sense from a kid. Marvel characters are all jokesters which is bizarre. Everyone is sporting pop culture references like whedon even Thor and cap which makes zero sense. It’s fine for Hawkeye and Spider-Man but for others it’s reallt out of character and superficial
I trust Forbes over whatever kind of faggot you are
Kind of sad it took 20 movies for them to do this. Wasn’t very genuine
Imagine signing your name to this "art"
He might be right and the marketing really was 100mil. The problem with his argument is that he think WB paid for all that. This is what third party partnerships are for
>Billy is a better Superman than the actual DCEU Superman
>Sivana is a better Luthor than the actual DCEU Luthor
This is so bad holy shit
>ask friend what does he thinks of shazam movie
>"shazam? that movie were Sinbad played a genie?"
>mfw
Really drove home what a petty cunt Sivana is with the >what a shithole Line
It feels like it should feel like an awkward line but it actually feels right that he'd be completely buttblasted by the sight of a happy home in Christmas time
There's a Shazam thread on /cm/ with 111 images though.
I don't know shit about the film industry, is it true this movie is a flop or not doing well? Because I really like it ;_;
It made a profit and had a modest budget, so it's fine. Mouseketeers like to be fags though because 'lol billion dollars are the new standard'.
"Hurr it didn't make billion dollars so flop"
Just end your pathetic life already, Ladderbro
It's made a profit but under performed. I hope that they do commit with a sequel though since it was so well received
>Quality over quantity
Funny coming from a mousedrone
>
And especially because they took so long that DC was able to put out WW first to good praise among critics and casual audiences, which put Marvel on the spot to make their movie as a "response" to Wonder Woman, meaning people were automatically going to compare them once CM came out. And unfortunately for them, they did, but usually in WW's favor.
The difference is that Shazam was actually funny
HANDS
hot*
>Disney buys DC
AT&T is vastly BIGGER than Disney even after the Mouse over-paid to fund Rupert's hookers and gold plated oxygen tanks
At least it hopefully might mean they will toss his rainbow spectrum lantern corp pitch.
Movies only been out 20 days
Into The Spiderverse took almost a week longer to hit $100M, Ghost Rider took longer than the movie has been out to him $100M, Kingsman sequel took one more week than Shazam! has been out t hit $100M and it hit $400M+
It will end up grossing more than Thor #1 or Cap #1 so don't you worry your little head. Movies making $100 overnight is not the norm, it's the exception, likewise movies making $400 domestic is the rarity, not the standard.
Which is why Wonder Woman did so well and Aquaman made $1B+?
That's because most of its audience didn't grow up watching 80s kid films.
Captain Magic Word
Captain Sneed
Based and Sneedpilled
It could work
Sadly, I don't think Toei would permit DC calling him Captain Marvellous.
>AT&T is vastly BIGGER than Disney
Why are you lying? Disney's market cap is $246 billion. Which is $25 billion more than AT&T's.
>Which is why Wonder Woman did so well and Aquaman made $1B+?
I know people who think they're Marvel movies
>watching reddit letter media
What a bunch of idiots
Aquaman did so well because it was the only December without a Star Wars movie
Any other month it would have bombed just as hard as Shazam
Whatever you say.....
Fuck Carol and fuck you
A superhero movie not making 400 million is embarrassing.
I lust for porn of asian shazam
A superhero movie not making $600 million is embarrassing, this is a fucking disaster. DC needs to announce something big to fix the serious damage done to the brand.
>Shazam looks too corny, it needs to be serious and grounded like my favorite movie where a bunch of weirdoes in funny costumes use magic and lasers to fight a raisin man from space while cracking jokes about Ben and Jerry's and Fortnite
I don't get how Shazam crosses the line for some people, all capeshit is inherently goofy
Not to mention, it had its dark moments too like the boardroom scene
Keep crying Dkek
If anything, it's better when capeshit embraces the corniness instead of trying to be overly serious. Aquaman does it too and all the better for it.
It's obviously the type of movie that attracts little boys and adult women. And by adult women I mean that kind of women.
>Dkek
why adult women?
Nigga, fuck off with that. You're reason no one takes capeshit with any inch of seriousness.
youtu.be
OH NONONONONO
Based
>less than half a movie that came out two months ago
YIKES
Shh, the DCucks don't like it when you point out facts like that.
It made a million on wednesday.
Are you posting misinformation??
It's Friday dumbfuck
I know you're retarded being a DC fan and all but there's another day between Wednesday and Friday
Then post the Friday numbers, marvelcuck
Oh fuck off, you are the same people who hate Raimi trilogy now because it is "too corny".
Why hasn't janny banned your annoying ass yet?
You won't get Shazam's terrible Friday numbers until tomorrow dipshit
What you're dumb ass called "misinformation" is what's known as THURSDAY'S NUMBERS
isn't Shazam expected to reach 400 million?? Is good for a movie with such a low budget, right??
>isn't Shazam expected to reach 400 million
No, that's just DC fans being super hopeful. What it has now is all it's going to get.
It's not a flop though
>coworkers
You mean the other Disney shills?
Yeah its "good"... if we're just talking about any other kind of film. As a modern capeshit though, that's pretty pathetic. Plus its getting more unlikely to actually reach that number now.
For comparison, Deadpool has a 58 million production budget and still made huge bank, not to mention having to be limited due to its R-rating.
who cares
Yes
Are you actually getting something out of minimizing Shazam's success? Do you earn a paycheck? Critics and audiences love it, it made back well over its budget, and it has both a sequel and a spin-off greenlit and in pre-production. I don't get it, how is that not a success? Yeah, it didn't make a billion. Not everything can and not everything will, and more importantly not every movie needs to make that kind of money to be a success.
Of course it's not
It's the most successful superhero movie to ever make less than $400 million in the last decade
>"shazam? that movie were Sinbad played a genie?"
commedy gold
Forgetting about Fantastic Four, ladderfag?
It's how MCUdrones operate
It's standard company war BS
Haw haw ho ho ho!
It's eerie how it's performing identically to Fantastic Four, with the main difference being critical reception. Different times, I guess.
It's not performing anywhere near as bad as Fantastic Four
Now now. Billy made way more money than FF
not that one morons, the other one.
and that's without inflation of course otherwise it's doing much worse
I wish I'd watched Shazam instead of Hellboy. Now both are gone from theater.
You sure? They are still showing it for the next week or so in my area
ouch. but sure DC fans it's totally not bombing
Marvel is a sausage factory. That's not to say I didn't enjoy some of the most recent films, but I think Doctor Strange is the last one I saw in theaters and mostly because I thought the special effects would be better on a big screen.
Even Ragnarok which I did want to see in a big theater but just ran out of time while it was still in a decent one, was just fine on a large flat screen and I haven't even seen Infinity Wars, Captain Marvel and only saw Black Panther because I got a free DVD.
They've actually already greenlit two sequels but one of those is The Rock movie for Black Adam and that's been on deck forever.
so then they only greenlit ONE sequel
Disney - total assets: 99.9 B
ATT - total assets: 531.9 B
>I, too, can cherry pick
+1 for captain sparklefingers.
You do understand that there been more Decembers without SW movies just in the past decade alone, right?
Pay for a commission, son. Don't wait to be spoon fed
I know people who thought Darkseid and Thanos are the same guy
It will be on Netflix soon.
Because it fucking isn't. It already made profit
He's shitposting
You are both technically correct and technically incorrect, since any film released post this year's will be considered, for all intents and purposes, as a sequel, irrespective of when it was 'green lit.'
You are an idiot. As well as factually incorrect and don't understand how things work in box office.
So Thor and Captain America The First Avenger were embarrassing, you say?
Captain M
>It already made profit
lmao
sure it has a whole $15 million dollars in profit I'm sure WB is just over the moon that their movie in the biggest genre in history during the highest point of it's popularity just barely avoided being a complete bomb while 2 others released at the same time are going to go on to be the biggest movies of the year and maybe ever.
and then you dipshits will probably celebrate Joker barely breaking even and then Birds of Prey only losing a few million
you're fucking retarded and have no idea how INFLATION works
saying a movie in 2019 is almost doing as well as movies from 20fucking11 is the dumbest thing you could do which is why it's not surprising it's the first thing DC dipshits think of
>Implying Joker won't be a hit with normies
I know your a worthless troll. But at least be realistic
I'm just hoping the movies are good. Joker will probably rake in the cash though even if it's bad
Yeah but as their box office inflates does their budget
