They missed out on a chance for Vader to get a crazy nursefu that could help him with surgeries and modifications made to his body on the down-low to overthrow the emperor. The feelings would be one sided, but it would have been more interesting if she had been force sensitive rather than crazy.

Actually no. He shocked someone who showed clear disrespect (a big non in any regular armies) and killed tow officer who had failed at key points. He imposed a rule of fear, but never killed without a solid reason.

Yeah, you see the same kind of thing with the Resistance show having the Starkiller Base scene. Disney is trying to convince people that their Star Wars moments are just as iconic as classic moments when the only iconic moment they've made was the Vader scene in R1. And that scene only worked because the audience knows who Vader is and what he can do.
