So there's always that girl bully/cheerleader meanie in cartoons set in school
But do IRL bullies identify as her when they are watching these cartoons ? Or do they not see themselves as bullies and self insert as the main character instead ?
Question also applies to tv series if they don't watch cartoons
What was this bitch's name? Brittany? When was the last time she even appeared in the show? SvsF s1 us like a totally different show holy shit
Also to answer your question, from experience, assholes never identify with the asshole character. And even if they do, it's not in a bad light; as long as the asshole had the tiniest positive trait once, it'll be enough to go "omg totally me".
Why the fuck are Americans obsessed with cheerleaders? Do they even exist outside of the states? They don't exist in my country
Evan Wilson
Well in real life there isn't a single "Bully" per school is more that they are many people that act mean to others in different ways.
So a kid could feel bullied by another but at the same time be mean to a younger/fatter kid and not even realized it.
Ayden Taylor
In India they kinda exist. Though they are treated as a sprinkle on sprinkles covered doughnut. Last time i saw them was in a cricket match. And no one gave two shits about them
Andrew James
The cliche "mean girl" trope doesn't even reflect a warped version of real culture anymore, the internet has completely and totally changed the cultural landscape of schools and anyone born to a world without entrenched social media lived in a different life.
Gavin Carter
Eh never had a bully. I always thought that bullies were a myth untill I saw a kid get his shit kicked in.
Michael Thomas
This. The lot of middle school kids was more insensitive to each other as a whole. Though there was bullying on an individual more personal basis if someone weeded you out.
Jason Wright
>Why the fuck are Americans obsessed with cheerleaders? Because a massive fuckton of stereotypical American culture comes from the evangelicals and the evangelicals are all about figuring out ways to salivate over their daughters
Evan Bennett
Bullying is usually portrayed very inaccurately; in the bully's head (and actually on most onlookers' as well) there's actually not bullying going on, as the key is to pick an extremely unpopular target that will validate the necessary mental gymnastics to process it as funny and "deserved".
So no, most actual bullies wouldn't even make a connection between a traditionally written bully character like OP's . You can find much more realistic examples as main characters actually
It's mostly just a typical gathering point for the "hot girls" in school. It's not the be-all-end-all, but previously there was some integrity or minimum bars to meet to be considered for cheerleader. but with current year PC and SJ culture, those quality controls are probably thrown right out the window
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are good examples of a bully portraying himself as the main character.
Hunter Scott
Yeah turns out Cheerleaders ar now the ones who get bullied
Jace Rogers
Bully never identify as bad guy in fiction. There are too narcissistic.
Ethan Hall
it REALLY fucking does, jesus s1 to 24 is so ungodly different.
Angel Ramirez
She was the most pointless of the Echo Creek characters.
Daniel Gonzalez
Greg’s not so much a bully, as he is an asshole.
Nolan Reed
Bulling does exist and if you see real bulling you can't mistake it with being insensitive.
John Hall
There's a pretty thin line between the two.
>Breaks his arm and doesn't even apologize >Calls the cops on his family >Carelessly spends Rowley's dad's money >Makes him take the blame for things he doesn't do >Immediately claims that Rowley's diary is a "ripoff" of his own, and demands to make himself the main character
Jacob Nelson
I should also note that I'm referring to Rowley in all of those
Caleb Hill
I got bullied pretty hard from early elementary to middle of high school and I found the cheerleaders and popular girls were actually quite nice. Maybe it's because I knew my place and never hinted at being attracted to them, but they always treated me fairly. I suspect this is why I have a huge fetish for cheerleaders years later.
Carson Kelly
did they cheap on the animation too? season 1 looks so much more fluid and smooth and season 2 onward looks really choppy and stiff
Hunter Morgan
It depends entirely on whether or not the particular school sees cheerleading as an actual athletic. Those that do treat it as athletics won't lower their standards and the kind of people who'd demand lower standards won't stick with it once they realize they're going to have to give up at least 3 afternoons a week to practice and half of their weekend to games at the least - with no off-season. Cheerleading as a sport is pretty fucking intense.
Dylan Richardson
Bullies don’t typically watch cartoons
Ethan Gray
In real life popular people are popular because they're largely nice and gregarious people. Popular kids who are also jackasses tend to have some external reason for people to associate with them, usually money.
Chase Bennett
If you are bully by girl when you are young do you think you can become a femdom fethishist ?
Anthony Brown
No one person is a bully 100% of the time. The thing that gets glossed over is you shouldn’t be a person who is easily bullied. There’s always one kid in the school who is just this maladjusted little wreck of a person, and they usually get shit on because they don’t fight back or they are just so weird everyone else alienated them as the weird kid.
The bullying you typically see is more of a communal one uppping to see who can do the worst to the lowest kid(s) on them totem pole, because kids are pack animals without fully developed cognitive and social functions.
The worst you get are the kids with a strong sense of the social order, who think they can get away with shit because they are on top, and they usually can because their parents are rich and they understand how to manipulate people.
No girl ever decides they just want to the the mean, ratty bitch unless they are so low in the pecking order they do it as a defense mechanism.
Chase Rodriguez
Because girls that goes for cheerleading usually wants to stand out as the packleader who is just following the trend of bad bitches. They're here to make sure the other girls feels like shit, and that they get the nicest guy around school
Julian Jones
"Mean Girls" still exist, but they're older and work in offices now.
Angel Davis
>Though they are treated as a sprinkle on sprinkles covered doughnut.
What did he mean by this
Nolan Robinson
She served as a proxy for nefcy to throw all of her high school frustrations
Noah Green
It's either the writers or the animators who get a fair share of the money, you can't have it both ways
Logan Perry
That isn't true
You have many cases of people who are friendly to their friends yet are brutal to others
You have cases of that guy who the managers love to have a beer with so he promotes him despite the fact that hes an incompetent shithead who's hurting the company overall, in fact if the company goes over because of his behavior the manager would still not blame him for it
People flat out refuse to admit that their friends are assholes , they would rather blame their victims than admit that they are friends with jackasses , because if you are friends with an asshole, you are likely an asshole yourself and that's too much to handle for most people
Elijah Reed
Cheerleaders are still the popular girls. Every other girl knows she'll just be bullied off the team and go join color guard in the marching band with the other ugly girls
Isaiah Smith
Girls are usually the worst bullies. Male bullying is usually primarily physical violence. Guys can beat each other up and then be friends later. Female bullies want to actively ruin their victims' lives or bully them into suicide and with the rise of social media, it's easier than ever to start rumors or post embarrassing photos or make someone feel totally ostracised.
John Martinez
That's not someone popular actually being an asshole, that's them being incompetent. You can suck at everything else if life, but if you don't suck at socializing people will still like you
Michael Stewart
>Female bullies want to actively ruin their victims' lives or bully them into suicide What's the point of doing that, what could they possibly gain?
Brandon Ross
Strangely enough some of the nicer girls I met were cheerleaders
Evan Richardson
Less competition on the social hierarchy. Besides, what do male bullies get from punching around each other? Some people just need some kind of affirmation of power.
Oliver Bailey
No, the bully in cartoons and TV shows is usually someone who enjoys being mean for the hell of it. Bullies don't realize they cause grief for people because of their narcissism and lack of empathy and don't realize people see them in a negative light.
But pic unrelated. Brittney isn't evil or mean. She just doesn't want to be friends and Star is too autistic to get that and leave her alone.
Connor Flores
some of season 1 was tweened animation, done by Mercury Filmworks who does Wander Over Yonder and the Mickey Mouse shorts, and Season 2 beyond they switched to the standard Rough Draft in Korea
They improve their own social status by destroying someone else's. The in-group gets to feel solidarity against the outcast kids.
Zachary Davis
IRL alpha bitch girls don’t watch cartoons past the age of 10 because they’re too “mature” for them at that point. Right around the time they become an alpha bitch.
Jaxon Parker
Nah. Girl bullies are too indifferent to actually chase a victim to suicide. They’ll get their kicks picking on the weird girls but they’re normally just thinking about going to parties, getting a chad boyfriend, and hating other “popular” girls. They’re not picking on you because you hate you, they’re doing it because it entertains them for a bit and gives them a superiority kick.
Noah Lee
“Mean girls” still exist. The crazy thing is that the dorky shut in girls have become the mean girls. They use someone being “problematic” as an excuse to bully them into killing themselves. Remember the Zaamii incident? That shit happens all the time on tumblr on a smaller scale.
Leo Thompson
>high school frustrations She didn't have a positive school life, huh?
>[X] Doubt The poor girls getting bullied out of running her own show by girls like outlines for not being progressive enough
Owen Ortiz
It’s not even a plot twist, “nerdy” girls are far crueler to other women. She doesn’t realize it but she’s being a “Brittney” just by putting her in the show.
Aiden Wilson
I used to bully fat kids and awkward tiny kids and never identified with the jock bully caricatures on my favorite cartoons
The common biggest example is Dumbo. ALL kids get sad for Dumbo when he gets bullied, because they see some of themselves in Dumbo, even if they're horrible bullies themselves. EVERYONE is dumbo in their own life, nobody really thinks of themselves as the bad guy.
Chase Hall
Bulling does exist, but is not like there is a designated bully for the whole school, Is more like groups of people attacking others outside of their group. Even marginalized kids can become assholes if they form a group.
Lincoln Cox
Marginalized people in groups tend to become the biggest assholes. Look at what happens in LARP groups when one group gets into a position of power and then use their status to help their friends and bully everyone else.
