Honestly, this is kind of expected. The first season is just about fine. There's nothing exceptional, even the well written characters feel a bit flat. Same thing with New Ducktales in that the emotion feels a bit artificial.

I will put money down that the studio saw how the timeline of Voltron went and touted that they could do it better and faster.

Even if you hate voltron, shera is a clear attempt at the studio trying to outdo the success that was voltron. From ripped off character designs and the constant shit talking they did to the voltron team. Its not hard to see that they would try to outdo them.

There's more to it than that. Reading the review, it feels like a confirmation of what we expected after season one. Catra's side is fun and has the best writing and Adora's side is boring. Only, this time, it's worse. Because they switched gears and decided to make it episodic. Yes, rushing the show has had an impact. But that review reinforces what we already knew. Catra is the show's one redeeming quality and Adora never should have left the horde at all for the whole first season. Even if netflix wasn't squeezing blood from a stone, the show would still be boring.

Reading the review. You get a picture of the problems of season 1 being much more obvious in season 2. Yeah, missing half a season does have an impact. But, from what I'm reading, Bow still hasn't been fleshed out. He gets one episode and that's it. A format that would work for episodic shows. But not a serialised one. Which is a flaw that having a correct amount of episodes won't fix.

Bow was pretty well-developed in S1. I don't remember anyone saying "I wish Bow had more development". It's the princesses who weren't developed much outside of their own episodes (Perfuma, Mermista, Frosta, Spintossa). But looks like they'll have more spotlight in S2.

I remember Bow's personality being that of a nineties gay stereotype. True, that's more than what the other character's got. But pieces of his character existed in the void of writer confirmed it on twitter. Like his gay dads.

Other reviews have mentioned his family's in his focus episode this season.
