Try telling someone in 1999 that Spongebob will be the Rugrats killer, how do they react?
Try telling someone in 1999 that Spongebob will be the Rugrats killer, how do they react?
Thank god. Who wants a TV show about screaming little kids?
SpongeBob had one of he strongest tv pilots I've ever seen, so it'd definitely be believable that it could dethrone a show that was already going downhill
Eh not that surprising, people started to lose interest after Dil became a main character post movie and was basically just a way to add more low brow humor
Stephen will be proud for his greatest achievement
I loved rugrats but from the first episode after the KCA, I was fully on board with Spongebob.
This. If you were conscious in the late 90s early 00s you would have known that Spongebob was an instant hit. Young or old, doesn't matter.
why was Rugrats popular? it's a show about diaper shitting babies
Because it was funny, creative, charming and overall a very well-written show.
I read somewhere that the show initially didn't have good ratings. Is this true and if so, when did it start to become.a major show for Nick?
Because that's my fetish.
This first few seasons are a fucking experimental low budget animation trip.
At the time, the concept of an immortal zombie show wasn't a thing outside of Sitcoms, saying a show which has been on for a decade will die would be not even a thought they have seriously.
Nickelodeon was banking on CatDog to be their breakout hit and Spongebob just sort of flew under their radar. If you remember, Nick gave CatDog a much larger initial push.
>Notice most diaperfags are all around my same age group.
>Realize I grew up when Rugrats was popular
Holy shit, is Rugrats responsible for the majority of diaperfags and ageplay retards on the internet?
who would even be mad? In 1999 Rugratz was already ten times more stale than Bob is now
They'd probably understand it, because by that point Rugrats was going downhill pretty fast.
The first few seasons are surreal as fuck and honestly charming in their own way, plus the adult characters are fucking excellent. The quality plummeted when they brought it back and made the babies not only a stronger focus, but gave them way more dialogue, and clearly changed the demographic from adults and kids to particularly young kids.
1999 they had already had the two movies and the series was on a decline.
The next year they would have the All Grown Up special, which would spark as an actual spinoff. By then people stopped caring about Rugrats and the show was over thanks to All Grown Up, which shortly died out too.
Me on the second furthest right
"Nick's worst cartoon ever. Nobody wants to watch a show about some stupid gay sponge and his life. It's like they took Rocko and took out all the interesting dynamics. I give it a season before it disappears off the face of the earth while Rugrats introduces a fifth Dil 20 years into the future and keeps going on just like The Simpsons has."
The weight of those candles should be collapsing the cake.
What killed Rugrats was the inclusion of Dil and Kimi. They messed with the character dynamics. Then there's the clusterfuck that was All Grown Up.
rugrats killed itself
its was cute and adventurous
>Anybody have anything to say about Rocket Power or Chalkzone?
>They sound a lot more promising than Spongebob, though it's a little early to tell
Boy, I wonder if this guy ever reflects back on how wrong he was.
Rocket Power was bad and a product of the 90s. I can't see it taking place in modern times.
Rocket Power was dated as hell. The fact it even made it off the ground at the tail-end of the 90's is a miracle.
This. Most of what it was referencing was already on the way out when it premiered, the culture Rocket Power reflects basically died out in 2000 and peaked from the early to mid 90s.
Was CatDog the biggest Yea Forums example of a forced meme?
Shoobies detected.
Never watched Rocket Power but Chalkzone was pretty fucking bad. The idea of a world behind a chalkboard was kinda cool but the show was so autistic. And the fucking songs at the end of each episode. Jesus Christ.
Honestly, I disliked Rocket Power more than Chalkzone.
Chalkzone was innocent enough in its concept, but Rocket Power was 5-6 years too late.
>This show will end sometime in it's 20s.
remember this
but Rugrats is coming back
What?
Oh... right...
>Implying if Yea Forums was around during its premiere it WOULDN'T shit on Spongebob
How ironic, I'm from the future too. Pretty soon Rugrats will come out with the Spongebob killer.
