This was going to just be Hilda when I started drawing it but my friend said to put medli in a REAL bunny suit. maybe they got their costumes mixed up?
Ok so I just went through the last thread and was surprised at these posts- I honestly don't know what to say other than you guys are too nice! Put a big smile on my face, thanks so much!! I appreciate it :)

>If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? You would be shocked how many people commented or contacted me expressing dismay and genuine surprise both times my comic finished. Like at least nine.

>What gets you in the mood to work on your comic? either feedback received from the previous page, or thinking about lewd stuff. >Alt Q: If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? If they had a good reason, say I'd forgotten to tie up some plot, I'd probably try to do a little more. otherwise I move on.
what's this group stuff going on? I cant work out if its a character battle or an anthology.
Cameron Green
seeing someone at your level get fans really inspires me to just get out whatever I can now
Jose Richardson
Sho nuf. Just don't make the mistakes I did. Put improvement ahead of consistency.

I'm happy with how these have been turning out. But I am going much slower than I had hoped.
So hey, /ic/ is talking about webcomics right now.
Also thing I wanted to talk about but have no idea how to word there, is Webtoons even worth it? Tapas same but less so. Even the genuinely good /hyw/ webcomics seem to have almost no views. The largest I know about is Colors of Horror with just 4k.
Lucas Richardson
1. Rau the oni 2.Nitt the scarecrow 3. 4.
We just need two more for the catfight tournament!

>BASED JULIA HOLTER EDITION people always forget that it's important not only to focus on your shortcomings but your strenghts as well to make them stand out more, so the question of the day is: what do you think are the strenghts of your comic?
I sometimes ask myself that question, haha! But seriously, I appreciate that those on Yea Forums tend to be quite honest with opinions and say what's on their minds.
Webtoons gets a lot of traffic, more than Tapas. I'd say it's worth a shot! Both of my comics get more views and followers there than on Tapas. Experience with them varies for everyone I'd say, but I'd recommend people to at least give both a go.
Wise words! Uh, I think the strength of my comics are the jokes haha
Samuel Ross
only 4k? gosh. how do they live with themselves.
Alexander Cooper
That's great for something with such infrequent updates. I'm pretty sure a few other hyw comics like harrodeleted's are super popular with more hits
>What gets you in the mood to work on your comic? Not sure. It comes and goes depending on how relaxed I am. So I guess a nap helps.
>Alt Q: If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? The ending will actually leave room to more adventures, so I could draw an extra chapter or two. That said I have other stories I wanna tell, this one was mainly made for practice.
Well, that looks damn nice!
UHHHH. The. Story, probably, while simple I like how it fits by the end.

I want to ask before I do it so as to not come across as rude, but I'm an art boy who's gonna be trying out a concept i Haven really seen anyone do and I want to present them here, among other places, for you folk to consider and/or use.
The idea, basically, is I'm going to be designing somewhere around 15 to 20 characters (design, name, abilities, backstory, and any weapons or equipment, plus a basic rundown of personality) to be used by anyone under the single stipulation that if the work they are used in makes a profit, there's be a small royalty for their usage. I got the idea when reading about how Unreal 4 awhile back but I'm doing it now, and I'm curious if it's both kosher and if anyone might be interested.
Essentially plug and play characters with a small post-usage royalty if what they were used in made any kind of income. Thoughts?
Jacob Cooper
if you build it, she will cum
John Harris
is that what Unreal was? What you're describing sounds like a variation on "adoptables" and I seriously doubt there's any market for it, given that character creation is the one thing we all seem to be the best at doing. It's the rest of the process that's hard.
Elijah Sanchez
>tfw want to implement a walkaround game or something for one little section with maybe a single fight >have no idea how to make it work >will probably just be called a homeshit fag for it anyway i just want to do some fun and experimental stuff with the medium because i feel like hardly anyone utilises that stuff anymore and i don't think it'd be out of place for my comic either
>given that character creation is the one thing we all seem to be the best at doing Is this true?
Jace Parker
Have you considered using GBstudio to make it gameboy style? It's free and has guides.
Samuel Thomas
Pretty much. I agree with that user, I doubt anyone would pay for that, designing characters is the best part. They should be amazing characters for it to work and that would probably mean that people would get inspired by them and create their own similar characters, not pay for yours, that even assuming the characters are THAT amazing.
Cameron Allen
>What gets you in the mood to work on your comic? Listening to music seems to always work! That and sometimes I'll imagining scenes from my comic will make me excited to work.
>Alt Q: If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? Possibly. In the case of Oni x Fox, it's been going on for so long and still has a lot to go, but I'd likely be open to doing a bit more for fun. It's one of those things, I think, that will be bittersweet for me to let go of.
Thanks, Ardi! Right back at you, my friend! :)
Adrian Wood
Well, it's what comes easily to us anyway. It's the most fun and satisfying thing. I've invented literally thousands of characters, and everything I've ever made was basically just me doing characters and then quitting after that part was done.
Andrew Diaz
What you are describing is more or less "adoptables" with a dash of Fanpro. As for the royalties, the way adoptables work is you pay up front and keep the design. Going a route of "post-usage royalty" won't go far legally as it requires a very strong and clear terms of usage or contract to be able to enforce it. There are a few more issues, but it all sums up to "nah, bro". If I read this as an actual pitch I wouldn't even second guess calling it a scam.

>If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? That won't be an issue. This story has multiple arcs with multiple volumes of multiple chapters each. We're taken care of for the forseeable future.
True, but for reference, this first arc will take me something like three years to finish at my current pace. That's the first of like a half dozen arcs.
Anyone else have any X girls they can put in the tournament?

Carson Brooks
In general you shouldn't try and aim for perfection in art, just better than before. With comics it's expected that there are going to be imperfections, especially if you are trying to pull the writer, artist, and PR director roll at the same time. You aren't doing yourself any favors.
If you find yourself sitting for a long time on a drawing there are a few things that can help: 1) Set a limit. Grab a timer and tell yourself when that timer goes off, you're done 2) "Finished, not perfect" Say it to yourself, work with it. 3) Learn to walk away, even if it's for a moment for some fresh air 4) Define "perfection" for yourself. Put it into words. Precise words, nothing vague. What does perfection look like to you? You'll be surprised how much defining something can help change your mind on things.
I'm not trying to be deep or anything, perfectionism just isn't something you want to do to yourself. Pull yourself out of that mentality before it starts doing damage.
Kevin Roberts
those better be some good ass designs for having a price my dude, I personally don't see the appeal of having to pay someone else for a character design and I bet you most people here really enjoy designing their own characters but with adoptables and stuf there's people all around the internet willing to pay for that service

The positive feedback I get from people who are interested, it goes a long way folks >Alt Q: If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? Why? Probably not, once my story is done, it's done. But the fact that people would want it back would fill me with absolute joy.
The other anons are right that it hurts comic productivity, but for you it can lead to dissatisfaction, frustration, hurt your self-esteem/ego by not meeting your expectations, loss of interest, undue stress, etc.
Short version is you're more likely to drop the project because it doesn't make you happy or satisfy you.

>If your fans wanted you to continue your comic after the ending, would you create more or move on? I've got Tom N Artie planned for 15 issues (not counting what Tales adds). When it reaches 15 it's not really going to be an ending but more of a 'okay adventures are done for now, I'm gonna go work on something else then come back to this later'. If there was a big demand for it to comeback fast then I'd probably be able to oblige but that depends on me at that point.

I actually had quite a few ideas, but im kinda new here so I figured most were already done to death/not in position to suggest them, but anyways: >drawing a panel from someone´s else comic in your style >drawing a page of your main character in someone´s else comic world/interacting with other author characters >your characters in a modern setting (or fantastic one if they already are in a modern setting) >arm wrestling competition. Which was kinda like the swimsuits but we let male characters in too and its less sexy. >CAR RACE. Alright that one might be a bit too impossible. >Characters from different comics dating. Can you imagine that one.
My main concern with the swimsuit fight is that if lewdness its the purpose then I dont feel my comic has too much of that, its a rather serious story. I mean the "lewdness" in it is only for characterization or shock factor. Something cute or darkly funny could fit it more. That said I guess it could always depend on the match.
Sure! Just tell us a little about your character. Their personality, powers, name, etc.
Is that how you want her to look in the tournament? Full armor? That's fine, though mild lewdness is encouraged.
Alexander Thomas
Just looked at Puppetmon again and see it, might have to work on the face when doing the inking.
Matthew Price
I mean obviously the standard spherical head with pointy nose is just classic puppetry. The vertical lines can represent the hinge mouth, but having them go all the way to the eyes, and the eyes covered by a hat making them sinisterly lowered, that's pure Hongo. No big, make it an homage. I've been more overt.
Ryan Martinez
Fuck me, tapas has changed its default behavior to displaying the FIRST comic instead of the most recent, even when logged out. I flat-out can't use this site anymore unless they changed the logged-in behavior to show you the most recent comic instead of whatever comic you read last.

i was thinking about learning a program like toonboom but i think you can make a whole movie in photoshop right?
>but i think you can make a whole movie in photoshop right? Not by itself. You can draw in it then export as gif or as frames for later, but PS doesn't handle sound so you're going to need more software if you want to go all the way.
Brody Reed
Don't be sad or discouraged user Have a hug from Erin to keep you motivated.
Yo thanks for mentioning this, just checked it out and it looks like a really cool program to make games without having to learn complex code so I can spend more time on the art and story line
Samuel Ross
I was just thinking myself it'd be good for very small vignettes mostly just to tell a story, whereas it's never going to make a very satisfying game without a stupidly large amount of work put in and since you can export it as individual html5 files you can just embed them on each page
Dominic Evans
You can add sound and make mov and mp4 file animations in Photoshop, at least if you have cs6 or any later programs.
The only downside is you can only do about 200 frames at a time before exporting it since all those layers jam up the computer, but you just export it then attach the other exported vids together when its all complete to work around that.
I found that the best option for me was to use a cheap drawing program like paint tool sai and then just export all the jpegs into after effects since that program makes the jpegs animated without having to make each pic an entire layer
But yes its doable to make an entire animated movie in photoshop with sound and actually look good
I can't enjoy lewdery unless it's at least a little cute.

Her name is Marilyn. She's a young maiden who likes to use giant swords, and her powers are the ability to throw a wall of fire with a swing of her sword, just like in this image , create a pushing explosion of flames in front of her with the snap of her fingers and stuff.
Also how long will this event take? I'm gonna disappear for 6 months within 30 days.
>I'm gonna disappear for 6 months within 30 days. I seriously doubt this thing's going to wrap up that quickly but holy shit howcome? This is really cool and I want to see it made into a comic like, yesterday. >Sarashi >those fold-over-top high boots >sweatshirt-tied-around-waist style skirt accoutrement >claymore >cool attacks these are a few of my favorite things
Dominic Wright
I'm deploying to be on a boat for 6 months.

swimsuit talk made me want to sketch Beach Fun. Beach and fun are two things that will never happen in my story so there it goes, its like those anime magazine promotions that have nothing to do with the story.

whats the best way to cut a script down?
a character is telling a story to coerce someone into doing something that they dont want to do the story fades from the room its being told into a visual representation of whats being said and narrative slowly becomes dialog
(the purpose being to throw the reading off on if whats being said is true or not)
i just want to be sure it doesn't go on longer than necessary. (kinda like this question!)
>Best way to cut a script/scene down Rewrite. Start by working backwards, but write it down in short bullet points. First decide what you NEED to have happen or be said. Double check to see if there are other ways those events can take place. Space those NEEDs out and write what connects each event in those spaces. Compare with your previous version, decide if version 1 hits all those marks. Then decide if you WANT what's extra that's in v1 but not in v2. Adjust accordingly.
Teel deer: trim the fat
How long does your scene go on? You should be fine if it's not rambling. I've seen whole chapters of comics devoted to a character giving narrative and it's worked fine in certain circumstances.
The tournament shouldn't take long at all. With Marilyn, all we need is one more entrant and we can pretty much start.
Tournament Roster 1. Rau the Oni 2. Nitt the Scarecrow 3. Marilyn the Swordswoman 4.
We just need one more!
You sure Estrella is up for something like this? I mean I'm not saying you can't enter but she sure is different compared to the other girls. Does she have a more humanoid looking form?
left for sure if it's meant to be a guy, but feel free to thicken the braid

On second thought, I decline. On checking the rules, this is not the kind of event I'm interested in, or equipped to follow the spirit of the mildly lewd tournament.

Twin Genie ch1p3 I tried to draw hands without references. It didn't really work, but still wanted this page done. Still working on anatomy. I made a magic system for them.
Isle Magic System >all objects are imbued with mana, and these objects can be manipulated with mana depending on the user’s stamina and creativity >deities exist and place rules on magic use
Rules of the isle >all magic must be learned, nothing is intristic (white magic, black magic) >all magic must come from an object >all magic has limitations based on stamina and creativity >a user can only learn one type of magic Rules of the lamp >no killing, raising of the dead, or falling-in-love wishes >genies can’t use wishes on themselves, but can use magic >the lamp acts as a power amplifier based on proximity; ring is more powerful >a wish is defined as a spell that another user cannot conjure with their own magic or a spell that breaks the rules of the isle Rules by civilization (Astra (humans), Mellora (beasts), Corella (Sea/Mermaids)) >no killing, memory, or manipulation spells can be used inside a civilization’s borders >no magic is to be used withing a town’s limits other than for business >magic can be used to amplify technological items >different civilizations will have different rules (mostly the same) rules placed on a user >a user can only learn one type of magic >more advanced spells take decades to learn and master >due to it’s difficulty, and use of MagiTech almost no one becomes master’s in their field
Dee uses Cloud Magic. Janey uses Card Magic. Dee can conjure up inorganic material, and Janey can create organic material.
yeah it was okay. Not surprised nobody wanted to do 2 rounds though. maybe this sort of thing should just be one-and-done activities.
Gavin Ward
>I tried to draw hands without references. It didn't really work, but still wanted this page done. Hands are the one thing you always have a reference for, right there down at the end of your wrists! Those hands aren't terrible cartoon hands though.
Anthony Long
It's a two round tournament and the last one was a year okay. Don't act like its spamming the threads. It basically is "one and done."
Charles Thompson
Who was your character?
Jeremiah Taylor
I meant activities you participate in once, instead of having multiple rounds.
Carter King
Thank you God for the food, the roof, and the tools to pursue my passion. It is by your grace that I can do what I do today.
I've been avoiding drawing hands in studies, so this reminded me I have to also practice that. Any thoughts on the magic system? I tried to make it so it isn't completely broken.
Nathan Morales
I miss them both I also miss that not-wonder-woman comic. the art was rough but it was up and coming and coming up.
Hunter Morales
I tend not to think of things that way, in systems and with rules. More like a real phenomenon you could understand existing in the universe, which people study and observe and write down theories and guidelines for the usage of.
Matthew Lee
Hey, if you guys are not dead say something!
Daniel Adams
I like the drawing on the right more
Hunter Wilson
Whatever happened to that? Miss Melee right? The guy used to be a big part of hyw, just disappeared after a while

>More like a real phenomenon you could understand existing in the universe, which people study and observe and write down theories and guidelines for the usage of. Wouldn't it become broken if I did that

naw the one with the greek amazon warrior nope, that's how you keep it from being broken. if something seems stupidly powerful and universe-changing, you have to ask yourself how that could exist.. you might conclude, it couldn't.
Daniel Jones
>There's an abundance of archetypally cute girls around here. It's the only reason I draw.
I'm kind of in the same boat as Gus. It isn't that I'm opposed to entering an event here, but I'm not particularly interested in drawing any level of lewd art.... It'll be cool to see how the entries go, though!
Such a fun drawing! Nice work on the anatomy, too!
Good compromise! but I still gotta say, few guys can pull off a jacket that ends THAT high. I feel like even Tenchi would be like "can I have a little more fabric here?" even just one more strip added at the bottom would help. Same for the sleeves, it seems odd they'd end just a few inches before the wrist. Not gonna nitpick about the foot anatomy because it's obviously an alien and you can do what you want, it just looks like the equivalent of if you had the human foot right behind the 'balls' connected directly to the ankle
Ryan Young
Thank you! Galaxy brain is not studying anatomy but redrawing the sketch lines until it looks acceptable.
That was a joke I am indeed studying anatomy. As for the event, not that I dont like this one, but I feel like a non-lewd-at-all event could attract more contestants. Might be wrong though because its true lewdness picks up interest sometimes.
The gender is ambiguous, dunno if thats on purpose or not, but anyways this one might be the best. I really like the tail and the four eyes, its such a cool design. Reminds me of the Off Batter human design with the four eyes, I always wanted to steal imitate that someday.
Brandon Green
This species has intentionally fucked up feet, generations of domestication has made them nubby. It's supposed to look a little like foot binding.

In that case, I think you've got a winning design here. That's actually pretty clever. We've made a lot of weird alterations to our pets and livestock but nobody's found a way to genetically hobble them yet, but you can bet we'd do that for the ones we planned to eat, or ones we really really didn't want to run away, like birds
I'm trying to picture things to do, to continue these. If it's not a bother, may I ask what you liked about this little halloween comic? One thing I know I have to improve is actually giving it a proper background ( the house the scarecrow's in and all )
Connor Reyes
Not that same guy but what i liked about it was the pure unbridled feeling of it, delivered in fantastic body language. That was a lot of panels to devote to a good oldfashioned mindbreak, but it was so good it makes me want to develop a new fetish or something just so I can enjoy it on more levels.

How does one go about developing an actual story with characters and shit?
All I know how to do is world building and drawing up my ideas, which basically never involve any actual characters with names etc. Instead, I go about more akin to developing factions for a strategy game, and go with certain themes for each of the groups within my setting, and draw shit that looks cool to me for them. I also have no idea for how to write a narrative at all.
I do however want to make some use for this setting I have been developing, and a comic might be one of such ways, hence I am kinda asking for advice here. Picture related, it is an autismal info picture on what amounts to an organic power armor utilized by one of the factions within my setting.
>I do however want to make some use for this setting I have been developing, and a comic might be one of such ways, hence I am kinda asking for advice here. Okay but why a comic though Honestly starting with worldbuilding isnt a good way to go about making a story I like what you have here though, I'm just curious what you want to do with it
Joseph Morris
You’ve posted your stuff on /tag/, right? I love your stuff—I admit that I never did read the explanations below, but I am a fan of your visuals and naming conventions. I love RTS’s, and your work gives off that same vibe.
As for making an actual story: Start small and branch out. You think I’m macro terms, now go to micro. What are the personal implications of your world?
Xavier Hughes
Well, you've got your world built. What kind of story do you want to tell within it? A wacky buddy comedy about two soldiers from opposing factions having to work together to escape from a third faction? A domestic drama about a veteran cyborgmonstergun pilot returning home after a war and the effect that his PTSD has on his family?
What kind of stories do you enjoy?
Colton Rodriguez
>Okay but why a comic though Because I am better at drawing rather than writing. I mean, whenever I write, I seem to just use same expressions again and again, which would become a problem if I were to describe scenery etc. Whereas via drawing, I can just draw that. I also just have far more experience in drawing than in writing, as I have been doodling shit since pre-school, while my experience in narrative writing is limited to a couple of short stories I wrote for school when I was a wee lad.
>Honestly starting with worldbuilding isnt a good way to go about making a story This might be the case. Worldbuilding is however what I enjoy doing.
>I like what you have here though, I'm just curious what you want to do with it I want to bring this world I have put effort into making to other people to see. Some sort of story would be a good vessel for that.
>You’ve posted your stuff on /tag/, right? I have mostly posted on /tg/ but sometimes also on work on your art threads here on Yea Forums.
> I love RTS’s, and your work gives off that same vibe. I have basically designed the factions of my settings as if they were RTS factions. RTS games were a major introduction for me to scifi as a genre.
>As for making an actual story: Start small and branch out. You think I’m macro terms, now go to micro. What are the personal implications of your world? Problem for me is that I honestly don't really know how to write dialog or narratives. Partly because I am socially fucking autismal so I don't really understand how people talk in real life either.
> What kind of story do you want to tell within it? I have been floating around a vague idea of doing short small stories that introduce different aspects of the setting to the readers. As it is, I just don't really know how to go about it. I have also tried to run a couple of quests on /tg/ and later /qst/ in this setting, which both ended with me being burned out and out of direction.
>Because I am better at drawing rather than writing See that's what I mean, and let's start from here I mean you still have to *write* a comic, and a good story to tell with it, and characters, and really, just because its a comic doesn't mean you can just shrug off the writing. Your art seems good but good art wont save a bad or uninteresting story, a good comic isnt something that you just draw and that's it (but that doesn't mean you should overthink it either) now, on to the second thing >This might be the case. Worldbuilding is however what I enjoy doing. and you know, there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, I'd say its quite interesting, however, worldbuilding and making a story is a whole different thing, is there a STORY you want to tell, or you just wanna introduce your fictional fantasy world and its lore to people in hopes they will care? Because it usually doesn't work that way, which is again why starting with worldbuilding is a good idea unless it serves the story itself in some way. And as harsh as it may sound, I dont think many people really care about 'deep lore' and worldbuilding unless there is something interesting attached to it. Nobody is really gonna magically care about a lame story because the setting is kinda cool. Perhaps you want them to care about the setting instead? Then do something with that.
>I want to bring this world I have put effort into making to other people to see. >Some sort of story would be a good vessel for that. Okay, but what kind of story, and why does it have to be a comic? why not, I dunno, a game or something?
I think the important question here is: do you WANT to tell a story? what KIND of story? Is there something you would like the people who read your stories to get?
Sorry that went on a bit too long and I'm not sure I even said it well enough, I guess tl;dr: What is the plan to make people care about your stuff aside from 'it looks cool i guess'?
Which do you find more interesting? The warfare between the factions or the political differences that create the conflict?
Warfare: the adventures of a small group of soldiers (maybe scouts) on the frontlines of battle. They can go to interesting places and meet (and kill) interesting people.
Politics: your characters are diplomats, spies and factional rulers. Intrigue is the order of the day, and conflict can exist within the same faction (those who sue for peace/negotiations Vs those who press for military domination) as between factions.
How does the war affect the common citizens of the different factions? Is it a nebulous, distant thing that only occurs on TV? Are their lives remarkably similar despite the propaganda claiming how different "Those Others" are? Or do they have to scrape out a living in an occupied city?
Robert Cooper
Thanks, I try to post chunks every week
Jeremiah Parker
>Okay, but what kind of story, and why does it have to be a comic? why not, I dunno, a game or something? Because I figured that comic is something I actually could do, whereas a game is basically an impossible dream. I tried to study game design only to realize that I am far too dumb to learn coding and that making games for living is in general kind of shit unless you are really passionate about it.
> do you WANT to tell a story? what KIND of story? I dunno. Like I said, I mostly just want to bring this setting to people. If I had some story I was passionate about telling, I would have started with the story itself, rather than this setting.
>Is there something you would like the people who read your stories to get? I honestly don't know.
>Which do you find more interesting? The warfare between the factions or the political differences that create the conflict? Both are interesting, however when it comes to the factions of this setting itself, my approach has been far more focused on the outward means of how they wage war, rather than deeper political questions behind their reasoning for waging war. This stems from my "RTS" approach to designing these factions. However the most interesting thing to me is the average denizen of the setting itself, stuck in this grotesque world and between the big factions vying for control over the setting.
The setting itself is basically just a massive biotech city, that has been ravaged by centuries of civil war between the various Noble families. Most of the technology within the setting is organic in nature, from living weaponry and clothing to even vehicles and buildings. The average denizen of the city are the mutated "freak" descendants of humanity that are ruled over by the noble families who trough their access to advanced biotech, have been able to prevent themselves from degrading biologically like the freaks have.
user probably doesn't even have a comic, just wants to shitpost
Luis Robinson
Stfu coldfusion, it's natural to not want to post your work after you expose your vulnerabilities like that. Nobody wants to be known as "that whiny author desperate for viewers", but people still want to vent their frustrations.
The only shitposter is you, trying to dismiss other people's feelings.
Hunter Jenkins
your characters are super cute and I've been enjoying your story so far as well as seeing how much you've improved since starting!
Seeing the beach fun drawing you did really made me want to draw some obvious non canon fan art, I hope you like it, it's no where close to being done since its a sketch but I wanted to share it with you and then the finished piece once I have it done ^v^ please keep working hard!!
If you knew how ironic this post is, you'd be going in for chelation
Parker Williams
Guess I'm fapping to oni girls today too, huh.
Dominic Wright
Do any of you participate with webcomic communities outside of /hyw/ and the discord?
Hudson Butler
are there any?
Nathaniel Cook
I try to participate in the Tapas Forums, but a lot of them are so inane or irrelevant that I can't bring myself to bother. I think that's a flaw of mine, rather than Tapas forums. Smackjeeves and Comicfury are ghost towns.
That's what I was wondering. I realized today that I can do a simple google search and find specialized forums for all types of art like concept and landscapes (or whatever), but I can't recall anything outside of webcomic hosts' dedicated forums. Even then, there's just a small inactive subforum or thread no-one ever seems to use. It just seems kind of weird there aren't more given the potential for critique, general help, and tips that are specific to comics.
I think the problem is with the forums. Or the people on the forums. I haven't used Tapas, but I used to use Smackjeeves's forum and it had the same issues you described, and it was a bit less of a ghost town at the time. Plenty of threads talking about personal problems or recent news, but only the occasional comic thread with basic questions like what size page to use that ends after two or three posts.
Elijah Walker
That’s not a girl.
Caleb James
Impressive stuff, how old are you/how long have you been drawing?
Charles Harris
Yeah, easier to enter to since it just calls for a sketch of the fight rather than a whole comic:
Luis Hill
most people working on comics are busy on their comics that's why Yea Forums is special, people here are creative and wishing to get started on shit. like those frequent voiceover threads.
Dylan Rogers
BIG MUH.
Thats incredible user, you really amped up the sexiness there! Do you draw a comic? I feel like I never saw your style posted in here before.
Im forever thankful for this and your words. I swear fanarts are so encouraging, that my comic would get them, ill cherish these dat-everything oni sisters with my heart and keep working hard. I actually started taking art classes today (pic related). Chapter 14, titled The Horde, will begin next week!
>in my 30s, had been drawing for more or less 20 years. Damn, making it ain't ez. How much longer do you think it'll be before you make it big?
Carson Jenkins
That guy be hot
Lucas Evans
Damn i love your art style so much, its adorable as fuck
Thomas Ward
i just came so hard i squirted all over my chair and it broke from the river rapids that expelled from my vaginal cavity
Alexander Stewart
Nah I don't post stuff here, in shit when it comes to plots and character ideas. In only good at concept art and animating/storyboarding but thankyou for enjoying the artwork! I'll post the rendered picture once I have some time to finish it
Brody Adams
As far as I got tonight.
Not great. I'm falling behind my schedule, and this page doesn't even look as great as I hoped. Annoying.
imagine making a comic about a bunch of stones stones i'm literally in tears right now, thinking about how someone drawing up a comic about stones
Adrian Carter
That's great man I dont have a lot of competition
Jason Robinson
Thanks
Connor Fisher
you're replying to some very weak bait, man we have a weird troll in here
Hudson Butler
There was no bait, they were tears of joy. My webcomic brings absolute bliss to those who view it.
Huh
Blake Butler
i think my comic might be too good for people to enjoy. how do i tackle this?
Ethan Butler
create alternate accounts making fun of people who DON'T GET IT
Christopher Nguyen
do you magically know what everything looks like before trying to draw it? i want your super powers.
Ayden Edwards
>homeless veterans are freezing in the streets right now >flint michigan still doesn't have clean drinking water >every day countless children die before being able to live for his dream >but coldfusion should be ostracized for having drawn a teenager in a risque joke once Take a long hard look at yourselves.
Leo Reyes
what's the drama here? I don't come to these threads very often. I just remember coldfusion being a kinda autist lolicon, which whatever because I am one too
Thomas Cooper
whats wrong with homestuck
Kevin Jenkins
>Draw a child >Call it a teen >Then have your self-insert eat her out Coldfusion gets a pass when he types that all pedos deserve the bullet.
Joshua Bennett
You're right We need to free Coldfusion to make up for this
Liam Ward
sadly I gave up and only have the script and a few old designs and ideas
Been drawing for a few years, and i really want to reach the basic skill level to try putting on paper my comic. I would like to even just do some basic "concept art" like sketches and watercolor paintings. Rant aside, what do you guys consider as the the right skill level to start a comic?
Grayson Brooks
why can't i get 100 subs but this piece of shit can what am i doing wrong i have more talent do people not like talent these days?
Caleb Garcia
>the right skill level to start a comic... ... is your skill level right now. Just do it. You'll learn on the way.
If you're feeling brave, you can post some samples for this peanut gallery to appraise your artistic ability. Otherwise, bear in mind that there are other people who did not let their very basic skills stop them from making comics. Some of them improved, others didn't. Aim to be one of the improvers.
Gavin Torres
>what am i doing wrong Not giving us the link to YOUR comic.
>I hid my comic under a rock and kept it a secret guarded by a mysterious society of Warrior-Philosphers! Why isn't anyone reading it?
Leo Cooper
We'll let him in when you fix Flint
Leo Howard
hmmm, guy that posts his comic multiple times in every thread and makes fanart and receives fanart and engages with people. vs bitter guy that posts about his jealousy for other creators and refuses to tell anyone about his thing for anyone to read. hmm. HMMMMM.
Even just on a technical aspect that comic is very well made. You have no idea of what you're talking about.
Chase Wilson
Are you going to enter?
Landon Sanders
problem is that drawing without being good enough would ruin the comic.
Carter Moore
how do you know youre good enough? if you were getting paid, how do you know a piece is good enough to be submitted? You dont. you know when a deadline ends, thats usually it. art isnt finished, its abandoned.
Andrew Phillips
this sounds like poetry
Kevin Collins
Yeah I'm tracking, it's actually an intermediary form compared to how I usually draw and tiny gremlins I rarely draw.
I'm on the once associated with /hyw/ discord server, you can find me there.
i think its funny how much emphasis is put onto art level for starting comics. if you can assume your writing is perfect out of the gate - doesnt need any work, doesnt need any prior experience in previous fully written stories or learning - why cant you assume your art will be?
Cooper Ross
I wasn't that user. I just think you can write like a pro.
Jonathan Bailey
You're really good for someone who says they rarely draw. I can't wait till you start your comic.
Jace Hughes
I didnt really think you might have been, just easier to reply to, and i had to get that off my mind. thanks and sorry for the confusion.
Julian Turner
When you are intermediate you realize that you're far from being good enough, but you're conscious of your level. After a few years you start liking your art and you start making stuff that could be placed in a portfolio. If you have never been through a "oh god I have no idea of what I am doing" phase and you have never felt way inadequate with your art you probably haven't been drawing enough. Also the better you get the more you understand how good the good art you like actually is, and the goalpost moves all the time as you become more knowledgeable.
Benjamin White
Do people really get better at drawing by just making a webcomic?
Matthew Williams
They get better at drawing by drawing, and I understand that making a webcomic usually involves drawing, so...
Jayden Wood
It improves your consistency but if you intend to draw at a low level the entire time you're not going to improve.
Colton Torres
If you make an effort and you study yes If you just shit out pages without thinking no
Michael Sullivan
Examples?
Ryan Edwards
Not my comic, but Hell Star Saga shows improvement every chapter (there's only three chapters though.) The author would take a break after every chapter to analyze his shortcomings and spend some time off to study before he moves onto the next chapter.
Nolan Bailey
When your goal is to improve and not finish a page, yes you do Like someone just trying to finish a page might not include backgrounds, do shot reverse shot panels very often or let fight scenes end abruptly When someone is trying to improve they don't take shortcuts often and try to draw things in a new way outside of their comfort zone
Jeremiah Hughes
you have the kind of style that would lead to me following your shit
Ryder Ortiz
any of those long running keenspot comics... or questionable content.
Adam White
on the flip side however theres the wotch and rain. you really need to have the goal to improve and not just sit in your comfort zone for 5 years.
William Young
>just draw That kinda motivated me on at least trying a concept sketch of the comic, but yeah the general skill level is low as fuck
Why every motivational art video like this has to be 30 mins+. Someone's overestimating my attention span.
Ayden Lewis
does it look even mildly intresting tho? im tryint to ditch the grayscale stuff because its boring.
William Morales
My advice is don't try to paint yet. Focus on drawing and do some basic colors.
Jaxon Brown
You need time to be able draw well
Nicholas Roberts
the lesson is at the end, 40 minutes, i didnt realise timestamps dont work in the embed. it's essentially 'do your best, try things and try things, but eventually you must call it done' it could do with a bit more definition. if you squint at it can you make still make out roughly what everything is, for example. thats just a matter of playing with values though, more contrast = more drama
Eli Walker
Posting the new Erin pages here For some reason, it just won't upload in other sites.
Ive had a few ideas in mind but hadn't the motivation to draw anything till recent. Gotta ride this insp wave for everything its worth. If i keep the pages simple like pic related then i can crank out like 4 a day.
it's almost like it's weak, repetitive bait and you're falling for it and giving it attention, encouraging it further >a closely-guarded secret, protected by a sect of closely-guarded monks high atop the Coches Mountains. >They would no sooner dance with a GOAT than divulge my comic's URL. >But they WILL bake you some crustly-guarded bread!
Have you ever had a webcomic line/dialogue stuck in your head?
Hunter Wood
“Time to scoot.” —Ringo, from Ringo
I have literally never read a webcomic with actually good or compelling dialogue. Hell, I can only think of some edgy Punisher quotes in regular comics. Even this example was a result of the orgasmic fever dream of Ringo, way more than any claim to good writing.
Blake Walker
His art is amazing wtf are you talking about, if anything he deserves more than just 100
Parker Thompson
>awkwarrrd Read it in Shelby the worm's voice Whoa, now we'll find out what the title refers to
Luke Sanchez
like mother like... child. dorbles. well done I'm liking this style and pacing.
Juan Mitchell
Im almost sure I remember them incorrectly, but: >Anäis: If I may, I feel like you two just moved what were doing in the house in here. From Flesh Kernel. Dont ask why but I repeated that line a lot
And from The Concord Initiative: >You chase your lost manhood, Cavallo, and leave me, Dazirak Malazi (?) within strides of the boy-king.
I very much like your dialogues, even though sometimes I prefer their initial versions to the finished ones.
Ryan Williams
Hey, thanks! I admit that while I am confident in my writing, I regularly become self conscious of dialogue sounding silly and heavy handed. That ends up being the reason I rewrite things. It sounds ludicrous to me. I’m committed to the serious tone, but that is a dicey proposition. Easy to slip into edgy redundancy.
Liam Parker
>Reading is KITTY!
Ryan Cruz
At worst your dialogues could be read as pretentious, but I like them, you can tell there is work behind them. In fact, I feel I like your initial ones better because you overthink them sometimes and end up compromising the 10/10 initial idea. But even then I always end up liking them. They never sound silly, they do sound like an old-knights story sometimes but I always figured that was the point.
Im guilty to say that I myself just go for the line that gets the point across and dont care about the poetry or beauty of whats said, though in my case its mainly because im a dirty esl and not great at english.
Aiden Thomas
Still puts butterflies in muh belly.
Carson King
>want to make a funny webcomic >spend a few hours writing a story >think my characters are pretty interesting >go look up some comics for inspiration >it's so much better than mine >mine is just cringy Kill me please
Levi Long
>tfw just wanna write public domain superhero webcomics >tfw cant draw
hold me senpaitachi
Tyler Miller
use public domain clipart
Asher Cox
nah
Adam Reed
How do you even know what's public domain or not? Is there a site for that, especially for non-superheroes?
Carter Kelly
i think there's a wikipedia article for public domain characters with a subheading for superheroes maybe. there's also whole fandoms for the shit, like groups who get together and share what theyve made with these.
Finished my most elaborate environment yet. I wanted this area to really look like if a laser tag arena was an entire civilization.
This is a small segment of the "Gypsy Array". This particular sector houses the twin halls of "Sargasso Station", an orientation module for noobs to the vegabond faction. Like every other section of the Gypsy Array it’s made almost entirely out of congealed space junk and abandoned spaceships.
Here's an ton of billboards I made to populate the Gypsy Array's environments. I did more but there's no point in posting everything. I really wanted to nail a myriad of 90s graphic design techniques. A lot of these I based on old geocties/angelfire website tags.
You think a low budget comic in the style of ATHF and Space Ghost Coast to Coast could work?
David Garcia
It sounds like it would look like a youtube "story time animator's" video. but hey, if you got the jokes, then id be more surprised if it doesn't benefit from the stock clipart
Jacob Cox
capital A-dorbles
Jaxon Myers
Do you know The Power of Stardust?
Luke Parker
So perfect Dinosaur Comics, yo. I miss Partially Clips.
Jackson Russell
we have a discord? where's the link?
Ayden Martinez
you have to give your discord ID first and get added. seeekrit club.
Aiden Martin
where?
Parker Morales
here or in private?
Michael Watson
Me making it big? I don't know, potentially never. If I known the secret sauce I would have made it big already.
Unfortunately, I think good writings, consistency and maybe interesting ideas are more important than quality of art. While I do think those are thing you can work on, I have no idea how to advise people on writing since I had been pretty focus on the art all this time.
I'm devoted to Laserwing, but sometimes I look at the designs I make for my side projects and think...shit. If I could go back to the year 2000 with the experience and skill I have now I probably could've made it as a successful career furry.
you gonna do crossovers with characters not from the cape genre? because that is a big steaming good idea fresh out of the oven.
Christian Evans
Your art style is always super cool to look at, keep it up dude
Adam Gutierrez
free him
Benjamin Gomez
Looks surreal.
Anthony Torres
It took a day, but I'm happier with this page, now. I don't think I'm going to make my deadline this week. That's four times so far. Frustrating. This is what happens when you are blessed with a big and adoring family that wants to spend time with you on weekends where you NORMALLY GET THE BULK OF YOUR WORK DONE.
Anyway, when I apply shadows tomorrow, this page should pop pretty damn good. I'm just going to ignore the painfully basic and flawed plowing scene and say "Next time."
Also, you're neither handsome nor smart if you haven't read the Concord Initiative so far:
In 30 words or less: Young, troubled king tries to stop decline of Early Modern Empire with state sponsored, propagandized spec ops team. He pulls talent from lawmen and criminals. The situation degenerates.
she's actually got a vagina. But she is friends with angels, so maybe they can help. IDK, donate to my patreon and maybe I'll make futa porn of her. :P
Juan Morgan
There was another guy I was meaning to color but it's getting late so I didn't, so here's this dude or whatever.
I've actually been drawing a lot since January of this year, although sometimes I don't for a few weeks due to job things.
i swear at this point you've spent about four times the effort drawing pipes than you have drawing everything else
looking forward to seeing where this goes
Oliver Scott
The big West Tree cartoon's animation is finished, i just gotta edit in the music and sound effects.
Jace Diaz
You know, everyone's going on about endgame and game of thrones and endgame of thrones, but I think this is the biggest media release of the week by far
Isaiah White
Any thoughts or suggestions you guys have on the Erin comic? Hope everything is looking good so far.l
Christian Stewart
ooo wait you've seen nothing hope it doesn't distract from the actual story ;_;
Jason Stewart
I want to practice drawing comic panels, keeping characters on model, pacing and some basic writing Doing a short comic (like 5-10 pages) is obviously the way to go here but I can't seem to think of way to do it that isn't extremely dissatisfying. I don't have the skills to write complex characters or stories but going with something that has no complexity feels like a waste. It's making it hard to endure the process
Is there a way to make a comic that's beginner friendly but not poor quality in concept?
Aaron Cox
Draw a comic of a movie scene
Matthew Rogers
Shit, you know your right, i never thought about the fact that everyone will be seeing endgame on friday...
Well, at the very least i won't have much competition posting stuff online since people will be busy watchin that.
Asher Lewis
Don't jerk us around on that robot, we need to know if there's a plug or an outlet. Otherwise this is perfect and I can't think of anything to change. though if you want to do some more 'economy' pages with less shading, that'd be fine once in a while. worth it in exchange for more pages.
Parker Robinson
Not at all, but after you quit that other comic we don't want to see you burn out. I forget what the reason was for that.
Isaac Gray
do what you would imagine is an omake, just a brief sidestory from what the comic will end up being In terms of literature that's actually a classic thing to do, a lot of big books started out with short stories from the middle of the storyline. In the case of the Jungle Book, the first Mowgli story written was a short snippet about him as an adult Basically if this is practice then physically practice drawing it as if you're already in the middle of it. A little quick snip that doesn't have to be part of an arc.
Jordan Perez
>won't have much competition or people that would normally be checking their RSS feeds on friday wont be.
Adam Rodriguez
Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try to do some of these practice things, will post results if I live through it
Chase Miller
>mc is tormented by her past failures it's not even funny how much i relate.
thanks! I'm actually looking to pitch this one to a publisher (hence format change) so I thought I might as well do something decent
Noah Morales
>MC is sad
"WoAh man tha'ts so me! i can relate hardcore! I too hate my life! am I edgy and aesthetic yet? I hate mysel guys I'm depressed, did I mention I dont like life"
shut the fuck up, gangweeder
Nathan Lopez
Why are you so toxic?
Jackson Thompson
I'm an Atheist, I eat babies.
Dylan Bennett
all jokes aside Im just tired of people flaunting how much they hate their life and how much they relate to characters that suffer. it's just like, dude, fix your life. Nobody wants to hear about it, everyone's life sucks and you aren't special. It's just annoying to hear.
Easton Moore
>hates how people empathize with media >uses Yea Forums as his diary Nah, go fuck yourself.
William Reed
You shouldn't be posting on Yea Forums if you're under 18 so get off
Jonathan Nelson
Are you still in middle school?
Owen White
That's the plan. I want to utilize explicitly public domain cartoon characters that are forgotten/unwanted and give them the second chance they deserve. I've already stumbled upon a few and I plan on making a webcomic where they're given major/minor roles in it.
He admitted in the discord that he's under 18, so yeah probably
Christopher Morris
>I'm on the once associated with /hyw/ discord server, you can find me there. The one with Mike and Scribblehatch?
Hudson Anderson
>art isn't as important as the story itself. >in a medium where the sole difference between a novel and a comic is the art Lol. You shitters need to stop clinging to the OnePunchMan dream. Comic culture in the west is not the same as the east.
Jason Sanchez
what are you talking about dude? I was literally responding to a question, retard.
I'm not clinging to one punch man dude. Also I dont give a shit about culture. I use a comic to tell my story because for one jokes are easier to tell b showing them than describing them, and because it's more fun for me to draw than to write.
Caleb Anderson
I miss scribblehatch
Brandon Ortiz
based
Blake Reed
You have to be 18 or older to post here buckaroo
Luke Edwards
>I was literally responding to a question, retard. Correct answer was I'm just an asshole, not some long-winded bullshit. Writers take note, this is how you write someone who's totally unlikeable.
Mason Ward
Ur mum
Jose Sullivan
>Nobody wants to hear about it I think the author wants to hear that their characters connects with readers. >everyone's life sucks and you aren't special. Why do you assume people who vent think they're special?
Jaxon Brown
Because hes a young edgy teen who thinks he knows everything lol
Ayden Jenkins
my favorite thing is searching the discord server for gossip about who's banned
could a plotline about a couple who are already in love be decent? it feels like most romances are about the couple meeting each other.
i would read that.
Ryder Martin
>could a plotline about a couple who are already in love be decent? It would be a nice change of pace to see a story about a couple that's already together and super happy rather than relationship drama and will-they-won't-they bullshit, yeah.
William Myers
I don't see why not. Andy plot/drama where the couple-status becomes relevant would just skip the meeting and connecting part and go to putting the relationship to the test.
Eli Hughes
>could a plotline about a couple who are already in love be decent? it feels like most romances are about the couple meeting each other.
Actually, you’ve reminded me of one example. There’s an adorable comic called LIM that has some intriguing stuff.
Lucas Rogers
Every webcomic could use a little bit of dante!
Hey actually... now that i think about it... that's not a bad idea...
Cooper Clark
Now replace all your characters with Dante. Thank me when you sell the movie rights to Hollywood.
Blake Williams
>I have literally never read a webcomic with actually good or compelling dialogue More seriously,
smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=172357 The Doe of Deadwood. Highly recommended in general, but especially for how the main character talks. They do yon medeveille speake because they're from a foreign herd and spent most of their childhood talking with a raven, but it never becomes too floral. I too have never read a *quotable* webcomic, but Rig talks fine.
genocideman.com/?p=40 Genocide Man, Which I ALREADY TOLD YOU ABOUT FOR ITS EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY =( Also man is it fucking weird to search that in the archives and see a The Shining-style wall of crazy. That you wrote. Still a good comic
october20comic.com/?comic_id=2 October 20, one of the webcomics in Monster Land's advertising alliance. That's actually page 3, but I feel like it should be seen first, it's very evocative. I like the hands.
candkadventures.the-comic.org/comics/first/ Cat and Knight Adventures, from here. In the strange position of knowing for sure that I like the dialogue but can't pin exactly why ... Also because I know he's in the thread, give the story more urgency or momentum, move the side stories to their own folder or something, and stop drawing shit in light blue fuck's sake
> That you wrote And of course after I post that I realize that's ambiguous. >That you yourself* wrote
Also, Out of Placers. You can tell they were having fun with the dialogue, which gives it charm. Guaranteed good up until page 33, where I stopped and bookmarked it waiting for more pages. It's at 90 now.
>comic has interesting avatar and looks like it could be a lot of fun >it tells its story with only one panel a week...
Chase Hernandez
Power of Stardust.
Jaxon Hall
>it feels like most romances are about the couple meeting each other. thats where the meat of tension is. will they get together? will destiny happen? they fucked and had some kids and bought a home is significantly less interesting, at least the way its handled in every tv show ever.
>Power of Stardust i know this belongs to a couple here, but i stumbled onto the smackjeeves mirror looking it up and flipped backwards through it, as you do. it repeated itself over twice and had dozens of filler images inbetween. its not all just one panel like i was complaining about, some pages have things to look at. but lordy that archive is a mess.
Lightsaber battles are never poor quality in concept An XCOM terror mission, from the eyes of a grunt. Especially Terror From The Deep- unfamiliarity and horror go together great Some dude who has to kill something massive, and realizes he has no idea how to do this
>Gotta ride this insp wave for everything its worth. try to kick the habit, apart from being unreliable other people can't tell when something was done when inspired or not (well, for writing. But drawing is probably harder to guess though)
hey thanks >give the story more urgency or momentum yeah i will, i promise to wrap up the shitshow of this chapter, all the good stuffs in chapter 4 >move the side stories to their own folder or something comicfury is the only site that i cant directly do this, it's literally labelled in a seperate chapter but they don't actually show up in supposed order without redoing it everytime >stop drawing shit in light blue fuck's sake it was only a one time april fools joke.........
You're free to choose I guess. The character technically doesn't have a gender, I just use male pronouns as a default since it's something we do in my native language.
a lot of randos i see on the comicfury front page. ill click and either get one of those 'choose your adventure' things or just plain old barely more than one panel type stuff. ...ok shit im bored, might as well link what specifically set me off. tennisballman.thecomicseries.com this could be greater than what it actually is.
If you were 8 in 2010, 9 years later you would be 17 at most if your birthday already passed for that year, otherwise hes still 16 until he gets his 2019 birthday. It's simple math.
if someone is 8 at the beginning of the year they're 9 by the end. if someone is 17 at the beginning of the year, after their birthday passes, they're 18.

its a pilot? edit your description to actually describe the show youre trying to sell. i was told studios wont just watch something, you have to sell them on the idea first, intrigue them. intrigue us. whats the show about? (congrats on finishing though you should be proud)
