Thoughts on this cartoon?
I think is good, the only thing I don't like is the crappy CGI vehicles.
Batman the brave and the bold
I didn't like all the square-jawed man-chins on the women, but the show was overall really good. My favorite parts were often the unrelated cold opens that could do whatever goofy shit they wanted, like have Batman team up with Space Ghost or the Justice League and Legion of Doom compete in a baseball game.
It had a really good style for animation. The stylized look lends itself way better to motion than the typical DC cartoon look, and I hate that they didn't do more with it
A fun show that people hated for being campy.
Came out at the wrong time too.
The Nolan films were popular, his grimmer Batman was considered less childish and thus a “better” batman than the one from this series.
Thats what my local comic club said at the time anyway (I hate those guys sometimes).
Reminder that we didn't get pic related with Paul Dini's script because DC was at the time in their "no Vertigo in cartoons!" phase
Also this show had the cutest Katana.
>Reminder that we didn't get pic related with Paul Dini's script because DC was at the time in their "no Vertigo in cartoons!" phase
Why though?
Everybody loves Vertigo.
Same thing happened during the animated series when they wanted to do an episode with Sandman.
Vertigo was considered a separate entity from DC at the time. Even the comics weren't allowed to acknowledge each other (which is why there was like a 15 year span where Swamp Thing wasn't part of the DC Universe because he was stuck in the Vertigo ghetto).
Probably because
>Some producers didn't want crossed streams
>They knew some Vertigo fans'd get mad if Vertigo stuff crossed over with a campy Batman show
I know some early Vertigo was in DC canon but still...
Well, at least we had that Cain episode in JLA.
I think it was the same script repurposed for TBATB: Batman gets seriously hurt, Death shows and to make things easier for the guy she brings her brother Dream to tell him stories abot how Batman inspired or helped his friends and allies and now he can rest in peace.
Best Batman show, fight me.
Justice League Action came after WB suspended the vertigo embargo, which is how we got Constantine and Swamp Thing in there. Before that, the only way to get Swamp Thing into a DC cartoon or even comic was to "sneak" him in there. He appears in the background on an alien planet in the Justice League Christmas episode. And I remember during Infinite Crisis, when all the magic characters in the DC universe joined hands around Stonehenge, they could only show a "mossy arm" to infer Swamp Thing was there, but couldn't show him fully.
WB/DC had a lot of weird embargos in the early to mid 2000s that fucked with all their media.
BTAS was unique and a trend starter but Brave and The Bold was also good too. The Spectre and Stranger episode was absolute kino for me as a teen.
Bringing back Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to play the Angel and the Devil on Bruce's shoulders is a fucking kino move.
Plus having Hamill's creepy hooded character say "fulfill your destiny".
Full circle.
>A Joker reference was secretly also a Star War reference
Fuck! Any other based episodes?
This show was also the only time we got an animated Enemy Ace (he was also supposed to be in the animated series but that episode never got made).
Isn’t this guy related to Anton Arcane?
I guess we got our Vertigo reference right here.
Ah yes, the kid's show that had a song about how Aquaman has a tiny dick, Blue Beetle needs to lose his virginity, Flash is a premature ejaculator and Batman is a sex machine.
>WB/DC had a lot of weird embargos in the early to mid 2000s that fucked with all their media.
That was so much bullshit, especially the way it kept crippling JLU
>Batman's villains and extended cast can't appear because they're currently in The Batman
>Robin can't appear anyway because he's in Teen Titans
>Aquaman had to be removed for the last season because of the fuckin Mercy Reef pilot and Black Manta had to get a name change to "Devil Ray" to circumvent the embargo
>They could mention Plastic Man but not show him
>They could go to Bludhaven, but Nightwing was only allowed to appear in silhouette because of the embargo.
They did the best they could even with WB tying their hands behind their backs.
Lost the whole series during a move. Is there any place to dl it?
The tranny chins are really off-putting.
Yeah I want this too.
Anyone got a Mega?
But death was a pretty campy and fun loving character though
They did a really cool job introducing some of the most obscure DC related stuff like the Creature Commandos and the Haunted Tank
Its because they made a lot of golden age references.
IU was wondering what happened to Aquaman all these years.
Gentleman Ghost origin episode. It involves Batman in his Gotham by Gaslight suit, Etrigan and motherfucking Sherlock Holmes. Plus references to "Mignola chapel" and From Hell.
The Aquaman vacation episode was the best one and Mera is a top tier milf
Weak taste
I still listen to the soundtrack for the musical episode all the time
It has a great subtle gag: Aquaman calls Batman; he's busy fighting the Penguin and cuts Aquaman off. Just before that, we go back to Aquaman listening and we can hear the action music playing on Batman's side through the cellphone.
I loved that they got a great design like blue beetle and made it even better. The cherry on top was having the scarab communicate in r2d2 beeps.
Some of the cold opens really should have been their own episodes.
I was disappointed it ended when it did, felt it still had things it could be do.
I think they used Plastic Man and Aquaman way too much instead of having Batman team-up with more obscure heroes.
Yeah, but I also liked when they finally got to her classic look. I love that outfit.
In an age where nobody seems to care about the classics, I appreciated this show a lot as the absolute love letter to the golden and silver age it was.
Well tbf those were really god tier depictions so I’m willing to give them a pass. He did pretty much do it with everyone by the end of it I think.
I really wanted a full Space Ghost episode, more Hanna Barbera heroes, Crisis, Zatanna, etc.
She may be cute, but I would advise not getting killed by her. Her sword traps the souls of its victims.
One of my personal favorite Batman cartoons second only the Batman Beyond. Really liked how the show combines the hammy nature of Adam West Batman and the Serious tones of Batman TAS.
I know that and I think is worth it.
yeah, thats why it was cool.
I think the key to the tone of the show was what James Tucker said.
>we wanted to make the kind of show we thought the Adam West one was back when we were children
To be fair I didn't get the references as a teenager either.
Though, I'm pretty sure my dad was staring at me in disappointment when I was watching this scene.
Absolutely based
Don't have to. I agree. This show was pure silver age kino and gave a lot of attention to heroes that didn't get it. This is the show that taught me to love Plas and Blue Beetle. Plus it had some of the best homages to comics and the comic media period. youtube.com
>We can hear the action music playing on Batman's side through the cellphone.
Fuck, that's good.
They were Outrageous old chum.
The last episode where they switched voices was awesome.
The last episode is to me the gold standard on making meta commentary right.

DC needs to make Scarecrow and Scream Queen and actual thing in the comics.
If Joker can have a henchwoman, Scarecrow can too.
Is Scream Queen an actual character? I always thought she and Silver Banshee covered the same terf.
Also this show had the best Dr. Sivana and Aquaman period
well to be fair they just took Golden Age Sivana and put him in the show. As it should be.
Isn't Scream Queen that vampire chick?
>"Know that where ever evil lurks in all its myriad forms, I'll be there".
>"With the hammers of justice to fight for decency and defend the innocent".
>"Goodnight..."
FUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK IT HURTS SO BAD BROS.
It has a way with line delivery.
>DECLARATION: YOU CANNOT MOCK LOVE FOR IT WAS LOVE THAT CREATED YOU
God, Red Tornado crying afterwards hurt me a bit.
Scream Queen looks way better than Silver Banshee ever did, besides she can turn her whole face into a giant mouth just imagine.
This show was one of my favorite DC shows ever. It even made B'wanna Beast intrinsic in defeating Starro, which is something you'd never expect to happen
>crying
user relax.
It was just some oil leakage.
Gentleman Ghost was also supossed to be in Batman the animated series, a real shame they never used him.
Easily my favorite Batman show. Has my favorite ending out of any show I've watched too.
I remembered they did a whole skit about Jimmy Olsen's transformations.
Pretty dope.
I miss that phase. Constantine shouldn't be running around with superheroes.
I watched it in my dub and I really hated the dialogue. Felt forced as all hell. Felt like I was watching seasons 1-2 of CGI Star Wars, CGI Green Lantern, Ben 10 Alien Force, season 2 of Secret Saturdays.
It had that Yea Forums-tier pacing, action and dialogue+behaviour which I can't stand. If somebody could modify the dialogue to sound less scripted and pseudo-intellectual then I'd be up to watch the entire series a second time.
I saw by the funny designs and choice in bombastic jazz soundtrack that it was aiming for children, but the dialogue and delivery threw me off completely. Genuinely felt like a Yea Forums show.
How the fuck did this even get past the censors in the first place?
Don't kid shows usually get screened by a bunch of humourless jack offs before it airs to make sure it isn't too naughty?
That episode was never aired in USA.
>I didn't like all the square-jawed man-chins on the women
what are you talking about? This had some of the hottest women in capeshit animation
Remember the Birds of Prey ep? They were all thick as fuck
I still fap to that episode
Well, that one is new for me.
It's a shame we never got to see her use it in a proper episode because most of her appearences had her in the school girl outfit
Faggot is an insult in Yea Forums it's a synonymous of "GTFO" or "Big fag". Reddit and Tumblr could think "that's a sexual identity" but Yea Forums thinks different. They use it when they get angry because you said something very "gay" if you didn't then they call you a "fag" and that's normal it basically replaced the word "fan".
user, what the heck?
are you in the right thread user?
It is actually the best Batman cartoon.
Here isn't such thing as "gender identity" discussion or non binary or other things or other terms similar. If you talk about these things here, people will attack inmediatly and they could ignore the threads, it happens with SU threads, if you're there is cause you want to call it shit or cause you're a reddit person visiting Yea Forums (though there are two or three gay guys, they are very active but there aren't many of them)
Now... Yea Forums recognize themselves as men. They even make jokes about it showing themselves as evil guys because they don't accept that kind of content. (They don't hate women, only SJW women)
Damn it... this isn't my thread. This isn't my day... in fact... this isn't my year.
sorry to hear that my dude. Hopefully things will turn around for you.
user, still the wrong thread
It's good when you find cool guys in the internet.
>I watched it in my dub
What did user mean by this?
Conroy was much better as the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh IMO.
I really wish they did more Batman and Batman team-ups. It's fucking criminal that we were denied Terry in "Game Over For Owlman".
What do you think guys, could they beat the Dark Knights from Metal?
It was just ok. Coming straight after the DCAU, this show felt like such a downgrade in every way.
I've always viewed BATB as the DCAU's "son". James Tucker has been involved in the original DCAU since STAS and the show feels like the sum result of all that work.
If anything, I'd say they're overpowered with BATB's Batman alone. Add in the multiple Batmen he can recruit from other dimensions, and they're an unstoppable force for justice.
I almost forgot that this show had a Superman embargo, which resulted in characters like Scream Queen and Fun Haus instead of Silver Banshee and Toyman.
To be fair Scream Queen looks way better than Silver Banshee.
Did it? he had a whole episode
and ra's al ghul, scarecrow and two-face were off-limits in The Batman
they replaced ra's with dracula and scarecrow with hugo strange
>Black Manta had to get a name change to "Devil Ray" to circumvent the embargo
Huh, always wondered about that.
I thought it was because it was the "Black" in his name.
There's a lot of weird bullshit at Warner Bros. I remember reading an interview with James Tucker talking about how there was some legal issue with using Black Lightning. No one however could tell them what the issue was so they just used him anyways, and decided to work it out afterwards.
I'm still pissed we didn't get the Batgirl JLU ep.
