BUT I'M A

BUT I'M A
CREEEEEEEEEEP

A terrible fucking moment. Not only a misuse of a song, but the lyrics could not fit MC less. The writer/director/whoever deserves a hard punch to the stupid face for this "creative decision".

>There are people who think this movie is better than Coco
The film as a whole is alright but it's definitely the weaker of the two

Visuals saved it.

Execs wanted pop songs so they'd find the movie.

>A chad that considers himself a tragic outcast
That's the target audience for the song though

>Visuals saved it.
Gutierrez style looks good in individual frames, but in motion and in 3D some of the characters barely read and it was overall extremely obnoxious

Also, making two layers of stylization was totally pointless. They should have gone for a somewhat realistic "real life" style and then the overstylized puppet style for the Land of the Dead

Is the sequel still happening?

There's gonna be a sequel?!

One of Based Disney's worst movies. I mean what tf were they thinking? I'm glad they were able to fix it with Coco though

>Love that movies visuals and think it's one of the best damn films when it comes to art design
>Absolutely hated the story and characters
This movie helped me realize why people like Avatar

Cute.

Better visuals than Coco imo, but the writing is all over the fucking place and really could've used some more time in the oven. Way too many things going on at once, I don't even understand why they thought they needed the extra layer of the kids on their field trip. It's really too bad, there's a lot of really cool ideas, but they're stuck in a mediocre movie.

I burst out laughing when he started singing this. All of the pop songs in the movie were totally out of place and awful. The only one that I was okay with was the "do ya think I'm sexy" one because I haven't heard the actual song, and it was short. It still felt shoehorned in, though.

Neat. Any word of what the deities are gonna be this time?

Huh. I'm assuming his punk space western got cancelled then?

The characters were more of a mixed bag. The human characters were average at best, but I do love how the gods were portrayed here. Neither were inherently evil, just very bored and antagonistic towards each other out of ego.

Great, I dont know about that either. What is this?

LITERAL SUGAR TITS!

I think if there's any singular thing that ruins going to kids' movies for me, it's pop songs that don't really fit forced into them.

I think it's actually a pretty significant factor towards Laika and Pixar films still being watchable as I get older.

It's be nice if they chose songs that people hadn't heard before instead of stuff that people already know and thus already have emotions associated with them

Coco came off as worse because so much of the film was just running the typical Pixar ruts, Book of Life at least felt original in some spaces.

Well, at least one person's heard everything. The big thing is tone.

Marvel's usage of older classics has mostly been a slam dunk, and classic rock and the like probably had more baggage for people than most genres out there. Immigrant Song fits like a glove in Thor, for instance. The 90s grunge-y stuff worked really well in Captain Marvel.

Putting a radiohead song with an extremely modern feel in a movie with a mexican folklore vibe doesn't really work at all.

Originally it was pitched as a trilogy, with each kid getting his own movie. The first was Manola, 2nd is the soldier kid, and the 3rd will be about the girl.

As of 2017 Production was moving forward for the 2nd movie but I haven't heard anything yet.

>misuse of a song
Creep is notoriously hard to get the rights to use in a film, even Del toro didn't get it.

Book of Life director asked them and told them the context of the scene he wanted it for and they approved because they felt he understood the point of the song

Looks interesting.
