Live action Calvin & Hobbes

Cast them

It's only a matter of time until Bill Waterson sells his soul to Disney and they eat up the rights.

No,

The obvious joke to make here would be Ryan Reynolds as Hobbes.

You mean "until Bill Watterson dies and his publisher sells him out"

Never happening.

That aside, who would you cast as Calvin?

>Never happening.
George Lucas said the same thing, but it turns out everyone has their price.

Do you know nothing about Bill Watterson

Bill Watterson will never sell out
Now whoever has the rights when he passes on the other hand...

Watterson will never, ever sell. The man is practically a Luddite and detests commercialization. You have nothing to worry about on that front.

On the OTHER hand, what happens when Watterson dies? Who gets the rights to the comic? I guess it goes to his wife, but what if she's already dead by then? Do they have any children? It's when he dies that we need to be worried.

George Lucas only did it because his ego was hurt severely by the fan reaction to the prequels and he didn’t want to deal with the negatively slung his way anymore. Watterson has no such issues given he refuses to revisit the comic at all and it’s likely to remain pure and exactly how it is now until he dies, and possibly after depending on the wording of his last will and testament and how strongly his lawyer decides to enforce it

>It's only a matter of time until Bill Waterson sells his soul
He hasn't yet in 30 years, you miserable fuck, have a little faith

They have a daughter named Violet about whom there is almost zero public info but she was born after the comic ended (so she’s like 25 at most)

He will 100% make sure the comic doesn't get continued, and Schutz managed to do this and have it respected.
At the very least I'm seeing merchandise finally happen when he passes unless he really makes that clear, similar to Prince's long-held boycott of YouTube and merch not being respected. Animated stuff? Have to wait and see how it would happen, don't think we need to worry for decades about this

>He will 100% make sure the comic doesn't get continued, and Schutz managed to do this and have it respected.

Schulz has multiple children to ensure that his will is carried out. Fortunately, as says, Watterson does seem to have at least one child.

Animated like that recent Peanuts movie. Fuck live action.

I like how no one wants to play along with the premise of OP’s post or even hypothetically contemplate the notion, and it’s good because it’s a shit idea that will never happen.
Really fluid 2D animation I’d like to see, but that’s not likely to ever happen either (though Watterson did give more serious consideration back in the day to an offer for an animated C&H TV show with full creative control than pretty much all other merchandising or adaptation attempts, he bailed on the idea when he decided he didn’t want to hear Calvin’s voice outside of his head nor did he want to pick one for the readers to hear him as).

Some animated shorts would be nice, no talking. That's as far as I'll go.

>he decided he didn’t want to hear Calvin’s voice outside of his head nor did he want to pick one for the readers to hear him as
I can understand that. I mean, how many people read Garfield and don't hear the dry voice from the animated features? Same with Peanuts and Snoopy's vocalizations. It really does solidify in a person's head.

Don't ever insult Bill Watterson like that, user. The man has more integrity and grit than every two-bit Hollywood fraud put together. The man spit in syndication's face and is now living comfortably off newspapers begrudgingly rerunning his comic.

I never really pictured Snoopy's inner monologue as anything similar to his yaps from the cartoon. What really got cemented in my head was I picked out a Woodstock toy from one of my visits to Knott's as a child, and he had one of these things inside him, so when you make him fly like he does in the cartoons he makes this haphazard tweeting type noise. I don't know how to describe it, but it doesn't sound much like the cartoons.
As for Garfield, I think I pictured him with a voice similar to Lorenzo's before I ever even knew there was a cartoon.

Calvin casted as Tom Holland

He's like 59? The guy could easily last another 20-25 years. It's not happening any time soon.

For some reason I've never read Garfield strips in LM's voice.

Besides if they did a C&H cartoon when the strip was running, it would have been in the early 90s and they probably use Tress MacNeille or something as his voice.

>He will 100% make sure the comic doesn't get continued, and Schutz managed to do this and have it respected.
It's glad he didn't because some autistic fanboys would end up writing both strips and forcing all the shipping and garbage plots they always wanted to see.

Live action would never work because child actors and anything with those is usually unwatchable, plus they grow up quickly and have to be recast.

also to kick start a charity program he was plannning for decades

>Besides if they did a C&H cartoon
Let's put this in a hypothetical world. The go ahead has been given, there is a cartoon hurray you did it.

Now almost every shot needs a smart phone, selfie, Calvin has a Twitter account. Dad now works for apple, Susie is now Lisa Simpson, and Hobbes just want to play fortnight.

>Futurama reaction pic
Ironic given that that show is almost guaranteed to make you start hating Tress MacNeille real fast.

If Yea Forums did a C&H cartoon, all that happens is the first idea that gets suggested is showing Susie naked.

They'd probably have Jason Ritter (Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls) Danny Pudi (Huey) Ben Schwartz (Bluey) or Bobby Moynihan (Louie) be Calvin's voice actor

Hobbes I could see be played by Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen or Neil Patrick Harris

Calvin's dad either Tom Kenny or Olan Rogers

Calvin's mom either Wendee Lee or
Teri Hatcher

Suzie probably someone like Grey Delise or Tara Strong it's fucking enevitable

>Tara Strong it's fucking enevitable
I feel like she's getting desperate. Like it's not enough for her to get a role anymore, she wants that character to forever be voice by her.

So Raven and Harley Quinn

Naw, Ryan Reynolds as Calvin, Chris Pratt as Hobbes.

>she wants that character to forever be voice by her.
That used to actually be the case until Mel Blanc dying and the Simpsons VAs getting greedy changed the standard of having only one VA for popular characters.

Bill Watterson won't sell Calvin And Hobbes as long as he lives.

We know what Yea Forums thinks, dude.

It'd probably be a show for preschooler and therefore requires none of that.

chris pratt and the rock

disney can go die in a fire though. bill watterson ain't like that

No, the first thing Yea Forums would do is have the babysitter do sweet /ss/ with Calvin.

Attached: spencer_and_locke_002_003.jpg (1988x3056, 1.13M)

And on that note, Spencer and Locke IS getting a movie treatment. It's a "20 years later" parody of Calvin & Hobbes, where Calvin is a detective, trying to find out who killed Susie.

I didn’t know this was a thing, and now I’n sad that the next page probably isn’t porn

How come?

Fund it

Calvin as just some kid.
Hobbes as Bill Murray
Animated by Blue Sky
All the side characters can be celebrities idgaf

There, saved.

>2D
You know it's going to be an uncanny 3D movie

Yea Forums to a tee

this is probably true. i'd be pissed, not that surprised

Tara Strong needs to be executed.

Watterson would never.

...this is perfect.

Fuck it then, maybe Lorenzo was just the ideal casting.

This makes me happy. Last I read he didn't have kids but that was based on commentary in one of the books. But this is big if true.

somebody knows their C&H strips and all the boards REALLY well.

it was definitely tried.
this commercial is from '91 when C&H was really popular.
you can tell they wrote it assuming they could get the rights, then when they couldn't, they just changed the puppet into a dog.

youtube.com/watch?v=Qb8UtLp2pcU

Any ten year old on red bull, and Brad Williams in a moc cap suit for the main due.

William Dafoe for his dad.

That ain't even tuna pizza, Hobbes wouldn't touch that shit.

Dafoe's not dorky enough.
a younger David Cross before the crazy beard might've worked.

>Naw, Ryan Reynolds as Calvin, Chris Pratt as Hobbes
I hate literally everything about this.

Attached: 1553979188620.jpg (343x343, 14K)

How come?

Because I really like calvin and hobbes and I don't want meme VAs voicing them. I also despise chris pratt but personally I think there shouldnt be a movie or tv show. Especially in this day and age of shit visuals and animation(if it were to be a cartoon) and if it were to get a movie all the voice actors would be again, meme celeb VAs like always, with diversity additions like queen latifah or some shit.
My MAIN point is I don't want something great like calvin and hobbes being made into anything other than the comic while we are living in clown world cause it'll be turned into hot garbage.

>Because I really like calvin and hobbes and I don't want meme VAs voicing them.
I know...I already said if they did the cartoon back in the early 90s they'd have Tress MacNeille or some other meme VA doing Calvin.
