Pre-crisis, their mother was the queen of Planet Venus.

Post-crisis, their mother was just a supermodel named Venus.

They already coordinated in Superman/Shazam First Thunder - not quite in the tropist way you describe, but they shared assets so that Sivana could kill Billy which was a major plot point in the book.

Yeah, that was a mistake, trying to make him too much like Lex was in those days. Full On Mad Scientist is a far superior look for him.

Also a huge mistake by Cereal Lord and for the live action movie.

Cereal Lord was trying to give Sivana some kind of arc where he starts out as a Lexlike but then slowly evolves into Classic Sivana over time.

Which might have worked if there hadn't been a five year gap between Shazam stories.

Twinkee snarffer stripped Sivana of his uniqueness and turned him into just another Marvel derivative like Black Adam.

I noticed how that seemed to be the case with a lot of DC characters in general during the new 52. Have them start off radically different, only for them to slowly morph into their original counterparts over time. Problem is it was rarely ever executed well and just felt sloppy at best.

The Sivana family are actually rather close. Even the non-chad members helped out with crimes, before DC got their filthy mits on them.

It's also implied that bubble head Beautia is pretty competent at the mad science as well, at least enough to help Sivana Snr. build doomsday machines.

This is why Sivana might have the edge on Luthor when it comes to killing Superman. They're both narcissistic geniuses, but Sivana isn't above using dirty, simple solutions to his problems.

I like to think both of them consider the other their ugly friend that makes them look better in contrast.
