How does Rumble fit into the Mignolaverse?
I like that one where Mignola appropriates folklore from other cultures because he's not creative enough to come up with something else.
Island/Darkness Calls/Wild Hunt/Hellboy in Hell
Peak Hellboy. Too bad Mignola fucked up the landing.
>muh cultural appropriation
Tumblr ----->
So like every single writer to some degree? Somehow I doubt you even know the folklore you defend.
Does anyone know why Harren left? I like Rubin and all, I'm just curious.
Darkness Calls is so god damn good. I like how rough Fregredo's art is that one. It gets too clean by the time the fury rolls around
AYYY
It doesnt, but I like to pretend it does, I also pretend Harrow County is in the Mignolaverse
Courtney Crumrin is another that would crossover very well with the Mignolaverse
I'm about to start The Wild Hunt. Any protip?
Who would win between Rathraw and Hellboy in a duel to the death?
babe, you can suck on my fish if you want.
You mean the main appeal of Hellboy?
Did you forget that we are supposed to hate Hellboy now and pretend it was never ever good in the first place?
Get out of here with that shit
>Conqueror Worm
Peak Hellboy, for sure.
I love Iron Prometheus too.
I like BPRD. I've decided Devil You Know was a bad dream.
>appropriate folklore
It’s meant to be appropriated and retold that’s the genre
I saw the new movie tonight and just wanted to say one thing:
It's not a good movie, but a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes is absurd.
Harrow County could work without changing anything too. I think.
Problem with Rotten Tomatoes is it just means 85% of people could have simply agreed with you. They could have thought it's no worse than "not good". Which is fair. But you get that awful low score. People really need to mull over what Rotten Tomatoes means more.
Are you starting there, or are you up to there? Because do not start there.
Also be ready to be stuck reading the other two parts of the trilogy because you ain't stopp9ng.
T-Thats how it ends!!!!??
i just fucking finished it and am so sad, but i saw something like this coming and can't even be angry about it anymore when i know this was supposed to happen.
question.
what happens to hellboy and liz and is the dragon dead fully.
Last I heard Harren wants to write/draw his own projects
This was incredibly funny
I adore this comic. I was caught off-guard when Fregredo started drawing it; he fucking killed it. There are some amazing double-splash pages in Wild Hunt and Darkness.
Anyone keeping up with BPRD? I think I left off with the ancients or whatever the fuck they're showing up? Or maybe I confused... I remember a primitive guy with a sword with BPRD and the world has gone completely to the froggies or whatever alien evolution that was going on. Fuck, I miss Guy Davis.
What's it like being a pants shitting retard?
yea. seeing that was shocking especially when you know the people who did it are not even on your side.
Hellboy's life allows the world to go on, he basically sacrifice himself for that.
Abe died and from his baby little tadpoles emerged, which eventually evolve into frogs
Liz is the girl you see in the crystal, she's probably going to end up as a protective goddess or something
Dragon is ded, anticlimatically so
> Dragon is ded, anticlimatically so
That was the best part because if you remember what he said before then it makes it funnier that he got killed by random nobodys and not Hellboy.
Ogdru Jahad: "Hellboy... Your fall should be like the fall of mountains... But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning and shall be forever... The first and the last... The world come full circle. You think you can fight me, kill me, as you would a beast? I am not the wheel—I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. We are bound together in that. I was the wind in the stars before this—Before planets, before Heaven and Hell—And when all's done I will be wind again, to blow the world as dust back into endless space
>Hellboy's life allows the world to go on, he basically sacrifice himself for that.
The way in which he didn't even seem to realise he was about to die was pretty weird and anticlimactic too. Like, he was just taking a peek inside, and then BOOM, the door shut.
He knew well enough
IMO that's the main appeal of Hellboy.
But you are probably trolling anyway, so have a 2/10 because you made me answer.
That said, is there an up to date reading list for Hellboy? I kinda stopped reading while he still was in hell and I am completely out of the loop.
thanks m8
vump
Still dumb though. All those years of build-up for nowt.
naught
>favorite Hellboy story?
Wolves of Saint August
It's a good story and peak Mignola art
nowt
>JUICED
Dang, Mignola's style used to look so good. I really hate what is has become.
same
and looking back at it now the degradation of his art is a hint he was caring less and less about comics
What did Mike mean by this
Could someone frogpill me on Abe's children?
I've never bothered with his ongoing but supposedly they set up the whole "coming race of frogmen" thing there...
>two parts of the trilogy
You know, not to mention the several other volumes that come before it
The ending has honestly bought out the worst of any Hellboy thread and combined with the apparently godawful movie has made it even more of a shit show.
the fact half the shit that went down was as predicted made people salty is stupid and dumb
>subversion bad
Hey I loved the ending,It isn less of a shitshow due to people not liking it.
is mike a pepe-poster?
The Magician and The Snake story is clearly about him and his daughter right?
Nah I have read librarys 1 to 4 and plague of frogs 1 to 3.
The one where he's in Mexico as a luchador. It's ridiculous but I love it.
Not really they didn't. It turned out Abe had the soul of a dead Hyperborean shaman in him but that's literally everything we found out there.
>It turned out Abe had the soul of a dead Hyperborean shaman in him
Jesus Christ, Hellboy comics are dumb.
Yeah. Then the warlock dude who was the villain of that series absorbs another soul, turns into Abe-like Fishman with darker skin and then Abe kills him by impaling him on a stick and then Dark and Terrible ends.
They really had no fucking idea what they were doing.
More like exploited for money by and for white men.
Fegredo trilogy
Despite it being cut short I really love hellboy in hell.
I loved how it had time for humor but also lore heavy and addressing in years of plotlines.
Name a more ominous page. Protip: you can't.
Bumpety boo, I hope you enjoy Mignolaverse as much as I do
I'd pay for it.
Anyone else think the fucking ending to The Devil You Know is dog shit?
I mean, it fucking ended like THIS? THIS CLIMAX WAS SO MUCH LESS THAN JOHAN'S GOING OUT ISSUE.
Conqueror Worm, The Island and Seed of Destruction. If we're talking about BPRD, everything involving Johan and Daimo or Abe finding out about his past.
Yes, everyone's gone over this already, we all hate it.
>Favorite Hellboy Story
I don't know if it's my favorite, but the Right Hand of Doom checks off so many things I enjoy about Hellboy in a relatively stand-alone story.
On that note...
>Favorite BPRD story
The Long Death. This was my introduction to James Harren, and the story that made me want to check out the rest of the Mignolaverse.
Still pissed off Hellboy's last words were cut off....
And kind of stupid.
You need to understand that it was always going to end like this.
Hellboy (and Mignola in general) was massively influenced by Moorcock's tragic heroes.
Elric has an incredibly similar ending to this but I think the problem is how..rushed the ending is compared to everything that came before.
By comparison, Stormbringer has a much smaller cast of characters it needed to wrap up with.
And also, what the fuck was up with Hecate? Is she still around? Where is Hellboy's soul if he sacrificed his body(again) to reinvigorate the earth? And where did Edward Grey go? Is Koschei still in Hell? Who the fuck was Erekshigal and does she matter to the plot?
And speaking of Moorcock, since this is just an Elric/Corum/Eternal Champion cycle we're going through here does that mean Mignola have a Quest for Tanelorn bonus arc in him that wraps up the rest?
That ending with Roger hit me so fucking hard.
Also, was Liz really just wondering the earth for years or...what? What WAS up with those last panels of her in the snow?
Well The Wild Hunt was really good. I wasnt expecting the movie to adapt it
I mean we all knew he was going to die, I don't give a fuck about that. What I care about is how extremely underwhelming and meaningless the entire ending felt; the story climaxed at The Black Flame and the rest afterwards felt entirely unnecessary. Abe died, Liz got sealed in stone by the Aurum or whatever and Hellboy died.
Anyway, Hecate had been sealed by Bromhime. You know, that fat dude from the early stories; he's a big part of the first time a demon strips Hellboy of his name. By sealing Hecate, he's the reason the Blood Queen can rise.
Hellboy's body was already dead. It's his soul that got compacted by the Iron Maiden I think.
Edward and Koschei are really hard to tell; I'm pretty sure Hell got emptied either by Vavara or Hellboy.
Erekshigal is I think a Summerian goddess of death? In the story, she's the source for the Ogdru Jahad and the Black Flame. The Ogdru Jahad were constructs made by angels that were given life by darkness, the void and shadow; Erekshigal. The black flame meanwhile was a piece of herself inserting itself in our reality. She'll still be around causing problems.
I doubt he'll have a definitive end to the series like that, he'll just slowly start things up again with side stories/back stories and will hint at some of the future things Abe's kids or those underground will do.
It boggles the mind that you'd try to *start* a franchise with The Wild Hunt.
Why did it have to be Lawrence Campbell instead of somebody good from the Mignolaverse's rich talentpool of artists?
>Tfw John Arcudi was the real talent all these years
>favorite Hellboy story
The Corpse. It's just so much fun with top-tier mignola art and it also blows my mind how it became a curcial point of Hellboy's lore later on.
if he debuted with his modern style, Hellboy would've never been popular
inspired by a story she came-up with, yeah.
>Let's see what --
What did Hellboy mean by this?
>John Arcudi was the real talent all these years
Eh. Arcudi is a good hand on other people's properties (The Mask, BPRD) but his own properties (looking at you Rumble) leave a lot to be desired.
What DID he mean by that? Did he know what he was getting into? I mean that literally. Did he know what was going to happen when Hecate squicked him?
This is actually a better troll than what I usually see on this board. I give it a 5/10
Mignola's now talking about having ideas for what happens after Devil You Know. He never mentioned that before. I sort of think he may have rushed Devil You Know so he could get to that stuff.
Also I've been mulling over how in Book of the New Sun green men are the future of sentient life on Ear...Urth after all previous life is swept away with the few survivors given amnesia.
Are there correlations here? Has Mignola read Book of the New Sun? Or is it just a bit similar because shit happens?
It's a good style for moments and things as they get dreamy and degrade. For Hellboy at the end it works. For Seed of Destruction it would be terrible. I don't feel safe in judging it as a style outside of context unless he uses it in a totally inappropriate story.
Probably had the general gist of it. He wasn't really expecting sunshines and rainbow.
>Mignola's now talking about having ideas for what happens after Devil You Know.
Source ?
>Who the fuck was Erekshigal and does she matter to the plot?
Jesus Christ on a stick why do you people think Ereshkgal was anything in Hellboy? It was the vague suggestion of an outside evil that effects everything. It's the opposite of god. Just like a good and benevolent god seems to exist in Hellboy yet doesn't interfere, so to does an objective evil. The Watchers created a thing corrupted by it, and that's about it.
If anything it's maybe like in Wheel of Time how the Creator and the Dark One exist in all realities but do fairly little. The Dark One tries to destroy, but chiefly through its agents. Winning isn't and can never be killing it, but just sealing its prison.
Same in Hellboy. No living thing could ever reach that high, but Ereshkgal's entire influence can be washed away from the word. No more Hem, no more Jahad, none of their creations. A new world.

Even Mignola isn't sure what Hellboy's state of being is right now. Which is funny as fuck and perfectly fitting.
He does know things grow out of his blood. He knows the world needs to be reborn. He knows Hecate's present form can cause a whole heck of a lot of bleeding.
Soo...... he knew. He knew what had to be done.
Haven't kept up with the BPRD.
Does Hellboy return after freeing the souls in hell?
Is the hellboy universe closed for good?
The final cycle, Devil You Know, merges the two. You should be up to date on both before reading it.
Mignolverse is done for good until it isn't. Mignola used to say this would be a The End with no books happening after it.
Now he says he has ideas. We'll see.
Regardless, books in the past are still happening. Hellboy one shots are coming. Hellboy and the BPRD, Lovster Johnson, and Witchfinder all have cycles to finish.
Cool, I guess. Is there a chronological order chart for reading somewhere?
Mignolaversity has a great one.
ty
It's a real shame we never got more of those animated movies
AAAARRRRRRGH
