He did nothing wrong.
He did nothing wrong
that's not iger
The Eurodisney debacle happened under his watch.
True but without him that place would have died.
And Iger fucked up with Hong Kong disney in addition to further financially crippling Eurodisney what's your point
Eisner is a fucking insult to walt disney's legacy and fuck his juden ashkenazi anus
>Eisner is a fucking insult to walt disney's legacy
>implying
He is the closest to Walt than Iger will ever be.
If Eisner is an insult to Walt's legacy Iger dug up his head and body, burned it, then stuck Star Wars stickers on it to sell to his investors without any care for what existed beforehand
He did a shitload right. Fuck the haters, ruined the best thing Disney TV ever had going
Elaborate
It's true that he basically saved it...... but he almost crash it again. At least he knew how to take risks unlike a certain safe CEO
I have a genuine question: Did people complain as much about bringing The Muppets to Hollywood Studios as people are complaining about Star Wars land? They're both (not so much Muppets as Star Wars will be, but still) lands dedicated to non-Disney IPs.
Except can Dave The Barbarian
>hurr durr le appealing to teenagers is bad meme
its what the company needed, without him there wouldn't be 30 year olds who nostalgia over the Disney decade, its not his fault his synergy ran off course
He fucked up Epcot
Chapek is gonna make it great again :)
>DUDE BEER GARDEN REPLACING THE FOUNTAIN AND A CAPESHIT COASTER LMAO
>le
You're not on Reddit. Use real words.
He wanted Disney to be more about artists creativity and fresh ideas and not just same shit unlike Iger. He did lost it in his last years but he still believes in that.
>tfw jetix is fucking dead
>tfw jetix unironically had the best mid 2000's shows
>tfw nobody fucking remembers jetix
Eisner worked out in the late 80s and early 90s. But he definitely started losing it later on.
He, also did nothing wrong.
Sequels for animated movies that nobody asked for happened under him.
I think part of the reason behind the complaints is because the Muppets fit with the whole showbiz theme that Hollywood Studios had going where Star Wars and Toy Story Land are both very immersive lands in themselves that don't fit the original themes at all.
No one is upset about Star Wars land itself, except maybe those who think it’s better in California Adventure then Disneyland. But consider that
>There has not been a single new non-ip ride in any US park since 2006, with the last one planned right before Igor came
>He buys Pixar and the new films planned by him are not only sequels, but the first ones to take a heavy dip in quality
>Star Wars gets bought and instantly corporately messed up
>2d animation is fully dropped during his term
>Marvel replaces many more creative properties both for tv and film slots and in the park simply because its cookie cutter formula is selling
>He starts making Disney sequel films in theaters
>Disney has been buy buy buy properties instead of developing his own
Iger is nothing more then a corporate snake who pretended he cared about Disney until Roy Disney died, then raped Disney for all it stood for and any passion and integrity it had left. He’s solely by the numbers and unlike Eisner has no creative souls or balls in his body. He isn’t Disney, he’s more akin to the corporate evil you’d see from Comcast
Eisner actually took a lot of risks, Iger is the most risk-averse IP obsessed motherfucker ever and makes Eisner look like a saint
You do have point.
Unironically kill yourself
Live action remakes are not helping much either.
On top of all this, Defunctland pointed out that Eisner said from the beginning that Iger had no creativity at all. So when Eisner finally realized people wanted him gone, who did he nominate to fill the position? I wholly believe that Eisner pushed for Iger just to screw over Disney.
Isn't Iger's whole thing wrapped around product placement? Everything everywhere must promote other Disney IPs, while trying to make any large IP a Disney IP?
At the same time, Disney became the #1 largest and most profitable media company on the planet under his tenure. so no matter what he will be remembered as one of the greatest CEOs that or any company has ever had in history.
Studios was always the Outsider IP Containment Zone, so it wasn't seen as a big deal. The only park backlash the Muppets got was when they were considering putting MuppetVision into Great Moments with Mr Lincoln.
Most of the complaints about Star Wars Land are related to it being a Single IP land going into Disneyland and taking up that park's last major expansion slot to boot.
If you don't watch YouTube and actually read a book, you'll see that Iger was the president of ABC at the time when Disney absorbed them. He impressed Eisner with his handling of the merger, who saw a lot of himself in the young executive, and Eisner ended up giving him a big executive role and groomed him to be the new CEO after a few misfires like micheal ovitz
Yea his friends and colleges going off to form Dreamworks and become "competition" really messed him up.
And now with Pixar taking in the ear in the wake of Lasseter.
Current Disney is creatively bankrupt with Iger thinking they can coast to success on remakes and sequels.
Poppins Returns Dumbo should be a lesson on that. But it won't.
Here's more info if you're interested. Basically Iger could've caused some ruckus because he missed out on being CEO of capcorp, but he didn't, and Eisner really appreciated it.
That's a good point. I didn't really think about how Muppetland still fits with the Hollywood motif while Toy Story and Star Wars doesn't. It does seem like there really isn't any single park where Star Wars or Toy Stort could fit as their own land, except for Magic Kingdom, and even then that doesn't really work. The Magic Kingdom lands are more abstract ideas (Adventure, Fantasy, The Future) than lands for a single specific idea. I wonder if maybe Hollywood Studios will just be rebranded as Movieland Park or something. Just one park for specific IP based lands.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to defend Iger or anything. I'm excited for Star Wars land, but I won't pretend it isn't a blatant cash grab. I'm relatively young, I was only 9 when Eisner left Disney, and I think by that point I had only been to Disney World once, maybe twice by then. It's not like I knew or cared who the CEO was or what their policies were. I've heard Eisner described as basically the man who was the Hero that saved Disney, but stayed too long and became the Villian. It seemed(from what I know) like he had a lot of great ideas, but went with every single idea whether it was good or not, and eventually near the end it was more bad ideas than good.
Everything you say about Iger I can't really argue with.
Woof,
I wonder what the timeline were Jim Henson took the mantle from Walt is like.
Bet its nice.
That's the double edged sword of the situation, a lot of times the masses eat up soulless shit, artistic creativity is great but it has more chances to fail than by the books stuff. If only we could find a healthy medium where the success of the corporate products can allow for risks to be taken.
Until Disney+ bombs and people realize Hong Kong Disneyland is the next Eurodisney. Then his tenure won’t be so sweet
It won't AND you're gay.
>Disney+ bombs
Get a load of this Comcast executive.
Problem is Corporate Executives are horribly risk averse. They are scared shitless about original ideas because they are not proven.
Nickelodeon is a fantastic example. They've gotten a very nasty rep as a IP hoarder. They've made tons of pilots for shows that people will never ever see made because they are afraid of them failing. But they are also afraid of letting them go to be successful elsewhere. (Phineas and Ferb, Adventure time, etc)
Safe options are what they want. And for Disney Iger is the poster boy for safety.
Heck I wouldn't be surprised if they stop with Disney films and just make Marvel.
But then they are forgetting they NEED the comics for that to work.
So who knows how that whole mess will work with Comic Stores dying.
Not failing but I feel it was a shit idea to announce it now. When it doesn't launch until fucking November.
Lotta folks are gonna forget about the damn thing being that far away.
Reminder that Iger bought Fox for Disney+ so before it even starts production of new stuff it has a expense of 70 billion
Don’t think Marvel’s success will cover that
It's probably a wholesome place but the downside is another company took over stuff instead of Disney.
Even then it's not gonna fail. Most people I've talked to are excited about it because it's both cheaper than netflix and has all of Marvel.
You realize your scenario hinges on everyone collectively deciding one day
>Hey Disney sucks!
out of nowhere and without any cause.
I think the ultimate judgment of Iger's tenure is going to be what happens to Episode 9. It's not going to outright bomb no matter what, but if it significantly underperforms, and Star Wars really DID get butchered beyond repair under Iger's watch, it's going to be hard to think of him as a success. He'll have presided over the killing of the greatest IP of them all.
You forgot about Hotstar you fucking retard.
Streaming services with a built in massive base.
Yep that would be a problem.
Just look at the whole T Series nonsense.
Disney owns Hotstar now sperg, they're going to rework it into their new social media app.
buy basically monopolizing the industry, face it him being a "great" CEO is bad, Disney is bad, hope you're looking forward to a future where they decide which media gets made.
Disney was almost dead thirty odd years ago.
Just give it time.
