Never really got tue point of them all being animals if there are no humans and they all act like humans anyways. Might as well just make the series about humans then with some sapient monsters.

Unironically but only because I've hated talking animals since a young age and anything with that kept me far away from it.

Furries, user, furries.

They don't all act like humans, there's threats like snakes and pike fish, and birds

Those could easily fit under sapient monsters. All the civilized species and protagonists, and even some antagonists, just act like humans.

But then we can't have a thinly veiled allegory about inherently dishonest and inferior races.

the animal part is very important though. what species you are does matter and theres more narrative diversity bc if it

Also:

Are they supposed to be animal-sized (e.g., mice are tiny like mice are in real life) or are they human size?

Like is Redwall, being a structure built by mice, an adorable little two-foot high miniature, or is it a giant building?

Then they could have just made up new species while making humans the Base. Using mice just seems odd.
