Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai. We've made it to volume 6 of the 7 sagas. One more, the issues that will go into 8, then all the extras from the Legends volume. Also, I'll finish posting the cover art from volume 5 after the story tonight.
Whose mon is the underlined-dot device Shizukiri is wearing? I'm 100% we've seen it a bunch of times before but I don't remember which clan it belongs to.
Don't post high quality fan art and call it a real ending, Dharma.
Luke Nelson
Okay someone post that bat girl now
Thanks for poost
Isaac Parker
Christian?
Owen Nelson
>I thought you threw your sword in the river >Wait that is not a sword it is your...oh >Oh...
Owen Mitchell
Chad* silly Stan and your typos.
Matthew Miller
Kek. This story was a rough one though. Poor whores never make it out alive.
Liam Williams
Noooo ;_;
Isaiah Diaz
God, that's so depressing
Cooper Rivera
I'm about to travel to Iran, so I fear I will have to miss the rest of the storytime. Thank you for your service Dharma, and perhaps I will see you in next year's storytime.
iirc it's not fan art, it's an actual alternate ending Stan put in the book because the original ending is so fucked up that he felt bad in retrospect. Can't remember where I heard that though, might have been bamboozled myself
Julian Howard
No, that is true. It's in the story notes somewhere.
Colton Thompson
He really must have liked Mayumi then, considering how many of Stan's side characters end badly.
Xavier Gray
Mayumi should have been end game.
Noah Kelly
I wonder how the poll would go if we allowed dead girls.
Anthony Nguyen
I might honestly vote for Mayumi then.
Jacob Hernandez
Ya just feel for the girl who doesn't have anything else. Tomoe and Chizu have their respective duties, but poor Mayumi didn't have anything till she met Usagi.
Hudson Green
Noooooooo!
Hudson Sanchez
I like the idea of her and Usagi settling down in some small town and setting up shop. A peaceful life, until trabble comes calling and Usagi needs to kick some ass. A proper samurai/western rip-off.
Ryder Cook
I can't believe Gen is fucking dead
Matthew Wright
I would have voted for Kazehime. I really liked her and a komori ninja as an ally and even a love interest would have been interesting
Why can't Stan Sakai fully draw the characters mouths moving while they speak, yet he can when they're screaming. It feels off and is the main reason why I never got into this comic.
>Why can't Stan Sakai fully draw the characters mouths moving while they speak, yet he can when they're screaming.
Because it's a comic and not animated. You draw characters mouths open while speaking and everyone would like they had a constant O face. You fucking retard.
Jason Phillips
>Because it's a comic and not animated. No, I think it's because he's lazy and doesn't feel like doing it. Laziness is an American trait after all.
He draws his character's mouths corresponding to the mood and dynamic of the scene and how the mouth would look most of the time if that scene was animated. A samurai is in all serious business mode and ready to slice fuckers to pieces, or somebody has a short, calmly said line? Closed mouth. Somebody is yelling? Mouth wide open. A longer, casual conversation? Slightly opened mouth.
Whenever somebody posts one of my edits from a year ago, I giggle like an idiot.
10/10, it ain't me intensifies.
Zachary Diaz
It's because he learned from Aragones to draw by inking directly, instead of doing a penciling pass first. Sometimes this will lead to there being some small mistake, he won't discard a whole page over it.
If you look at the early issues before he was doing this, the difference is obvious. It's why his older style is stiffer, but it's also free from goofs.
Tyler Howard
>First Monkey Punch >Now this Its a sad week boyos
>As she said, it is not my meddle. I can't be meddling with every unhappy person in the world. >I have my own meddling. I can't meddle meddle meddle meddle. >Meddle meddle meddle meddle meddle MEDDLING TIME!
I suppose they were from the Eta caste. They had to stick together, since they were considered filthy and inhuman and could never switch to another caste, so they only had each other. Oh, and you could kill them for no reason without repercussions, since the law was not protecting them.
Japan is so racist that they were racist against a big part of their own population who did dirty, but essential work (tanners, butchers, cleaners, undertakers) or were social outcasts (criminals, gamblers, street performers) even though other castes needed most of those people (aside of criminals) to function as a society. While today it's not as bad, there are many traces of that prejudice left and there still exist entire villages/districts of people who are living at least partially aside of the main population.
It's a classic trope of fiction since the 19th century that the beggars have a guild and secretly are making money hand over fist. You can see it in Balzac, Dumas and Brecht among others.
Kayden Brown
Post all the images you want while I'm on break. I love seeing this stuff
Wait so which one was the real ending? I am an Usagi newfag and very confused
Gabriel King
The second, where usagi is too late. Sorry
Christopher Powell
Oh, okay, thanks! No need to apologize though, thank you for storytiming this.
Connor Reyes
>all these anons bawwing and tisming about how Mayumi was a good girl she dindu nuffin wrong >simultaneously, in the story you read she was a hectoring gold digger who wouldn't leave Usagi alone because she saw him as a ticket to an exciting life, like an amoral instathot Only flaw is him giving his word with the intent to break it desu, that seems totally out of character.
Carson Parker
I've never known a gold digger to leave a giant pile of literal gold laying on the ground in a public place in order to chase after someone
Juan Evans
Those are cucumber slices, user No but for real that's just because she wants an !!!exciting!!! life, not to settle down. It's basically the same as when he suggests to her to get a job at the inn, or for that matter that now she can remain in the village since the gangsters are gone. She's too fucking bipolar to do it, that's not a good trait but very instathot.
The very end of this story says you're wrong, as we shall all see soon.
Besides, Mayumi was ready to go alone if Usagi, the only decent guy around who wasn't from her town, wouldn't be willing to take her with him. Usagi agreed to go with her because she impressed him with her strong spirit. In Mayumi's mind Usagi wasn't her ticket out, but rather the only trustworthy guide to the world outside her town she could find and who'd make the journey much easier. So they depart together and a short bit later they are having fun and suddenly this and this happens and they clearly develop feelings for each other. Try not to forget that Mayumi is THE ONLY girl in Usagi's life who's willing to accept his lifestyle, danger or not, and travel with the long-eared ronin without putting any other obligations above him (unlike Tomoe, Chizu or even Mariko). She just wants to be with him.
Luis Cooper
Wait, what obligations are you saying Chizu wants to lay on Usagi? My impression is that they're just flirting, unlike Tomoe and Mariko who I agree both want to lay some shit on Usagi about how he lives his life and so it didn't work out. I don't recall Usagi and Chizu ever doing more than kissing, let alone getting to the point where disparate duties tear them apart blah blah.
Besides, if anything it seems like the obligation she would have is "I have to fuck Lord Hikiji over permanently!" which, I mean... It seems like Usagi would go for that.
Chase Nelson
The point is, if Chizu ever has to choose, her clan or life with Usagi, she'll choose her clan (which I think is obvious to everyone). Same as Tomoe when it comes to serving Noriyuki (also obvious) and Mariko when it comes to duties she has to her village (she refused go with Usagi to serve his lord and then, when he left her for the second and seemingly final time time, Jotaro happened). All three are/were into him, but neither would ever quit her old life to be with Usagi (who also won't quit his current life). That's a common theme for all of those women who play/played a major part in Usagi's life.
Mayumi? She found a handsome ronin and fell for him. There is nothing in her life more important than Usagi, what she'll prove soon. That makes her unique.
Austin Rivera
Stan knows what's up
Brandon Nelson
Any editfags willing to change cad to chad and maybe give him a smirk?
I think it's the beard, but this guy is giving me some Hanshiro vibes. He's a bit less outwardly cheerful than Hanshiro was, though. Great thing about Stan's work, he'll wear his influences on his sleeve, but he'll never just 1:1 copy the plot of a given movie.
Luke Gomez
user... Thats not how comics work you retard
Eli Campbell
Don't snipe at me, I just delivered the news
Christopher Baker
>snipe Wat, isn't that just a joke about how Japanese say F? What am I missing?
Samuel Brown
Snipe can also mean to verbally attack someone. So yes it was a joke about EFU sounding like F U
David Richardson
Next poll features dead girls and they’re wrestling in a haunted hot springs as ghosts?
Cooper Baker
That's basically the "other" option, isn't it?
Joshua Wright
"other" may as well be called "waste your vote." There's no pointing in voting for the bulk option when it has to be spread across maybe half a dozen other girls.
Aaron Scott
"Other" is the Bernie Sanders of Usagibowl
Joseph Cox
I wonder if Jei being Inazuma is better or worse. In one case, there is a faster kill count since people actually rush to challenge her. On the other it means the victims or more jerks than nice peasants wanting to help a wanderer. Also she is likely a more deadly killer than the original Jei, but she is showing better resistance to the spirit.
Samuel Rivera
What can you guys tell me about Samurai Warrior for the C64?
I know this is feudal Japan but the life sucks and we can't ever have nice things theme had become repetitive
Jose Gutierrez
Well too bad, you've got 300 more years of this to go and then things get worse.
Ayden Carter
Things will sort of get better in a bout 200 years, go to complete shit in 100 more, then about 80 of mostly okay and then COMPLETE FUCK for about 30 and then cost at just plain weird till current.
I cannot imagine a Neal Adams Usagi story. Mostly cause I can't imagine Neal Adams knowing or attempting anything of historical accuracy to Japanese history.
Kevin Watson
Dharmanon died two days ago. Check back in tomorrow.
