The TAS version of Black Cat was a much better character than MJ and a better match for Peter. I don't know if it was intentional or not but the fact that they were attracted to each as Peter and Felicia as well as Spider-man and Black Cat made their chemistry feel more "real". Jennifer Hale's voice helped a lot too.
