Because to be a Disney princess, one of two things must be true:
1. You must represent a minority Disney feels it needs to appeal to. Her ethnicity isn't even real.
2. Your movie must have made good money. Atlantis bombed.

It was attacked by critics because it wasn't the usual Disney musical not because of the story or characters which aren't different from those movies they praise as "good". And they liked that awful Treasure Planet film....fuck critics. Disney saw this as an oportunity to kill 2D.

It has to do with branding. Vanellope is a princess too but she's not a Disney Princess.

Also this movie was unsuccessful and I'm pretty sure Disney would just like people to forget it exists.

A live action remake of this could work and be very good and better than the original if done right.

Disney doesn't care, they would rather try to make a live action movie out of one of their classic movies. You're not getting any nostalgiabux for remaking Atlantis like you would the Little Mermaid. Quality doesn't factor into the decision.

This. Beauty and the beast remake is the worst film I've seen in years and spits on the original but it made nostalgia bucks and got good reviews because nostalgia.

How does one learn of the world without said themes, though? It's like telling kids not to read Heart Of Darkness because "muh racism, muh colonialism" when it speaks of the evil of said things. According to FIIIIIIIIIILM THEORY you need to cover an open demographic and have a canonical appearance in clothing (typically a dress) that's suitable for the 3-11 year old girls to wear. Kida does not have this. Neither did Moana (because her outfit both wasn't a dress and also Disney didn't want to sell knockoff traditional clothing as a cheap Halloween costume without getting backlash).

Usually I'd say his videos are garbage but that actually checks out; Kida and Moana don't have clothing that's easy to sell toward kids, and Elsa and Anna aren't novel demographics (also their dress colors overlap with existing Princess ones). Meg wasn't a princess (got dumped by Adonis and never married into it, and it's not really implied in the movie that she's a carbon copy of the mythological Megara who was already a princess). Esmeralda isn't a princess AND has a complicated outfit, and Sofia I and Elena are TV princesses with no theatrical entries. Maybe Vanellope will get added though.
