I dislike infinite scrolling webcomics because I believe in print. Guess I'm old school like that. A webcomic draws me with their art and genres. Bad art and low effort writing drive me away.
And since you asked nicely OP, Crossing-Over is my webcomic.
I'm glad someone else thought of that. That's all I have to say.
Matthew Kelly
the thread IS trips, man
Parker Collins
is that so? I'm a firm believer scroll comics and that kind of paneling have a lot of unexplored potential for some sequences, tapas BL stuff might just use the format for convenience on mobile and not as a storytelling device though
Camden Allen
but user scrolls are the ULTIMATE oldschool printing!
Josiah Barnes
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics?
Gonna sound unrelated but i find it kinda odd when people do nothing but parade their OCs of the comic in cute situations or outfits rather than actually draw the comic they're in.
Also I hate hate the page a week format but I do understand it. Not all that controversial ig
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics? 1. Sprite comics are a worthwhile endeavor and there should be more of them 2. Never delete anything 3. Bad webcomics are better and more interesting than good webcomics
>Alt Q: What was something that drew you to a webcomic? Made you pass? I really like watching an amateur improve over time. If the art at the beginning of a comic is completely different from the art on the most recent page, that's really enticing. Overpopulated casts with convoluted backstories are really pleasing to me. But when a creator tries too hard to look professional, that makes their work boring and I don't care about it.
Here's the next page's sketch. There was a guy in here who was excited for Zack to appear, here he is. He's not going to get a chance to be cool or useful, but incompetence has been a major theme of this chapter.
And this is just a cooldown post-comic doodle so I have an image with this unrelated question:
Does anyone have any thoughts, preferences, or opinions about alien dates? By which I mean, if different planets have different year lengths, how would you keep track? It's not a pressing issue for me right now, and I can circumvent it by not giving official birthdays for my alien characters. But it's something to think about from a worldbuilding standpoint.
My current system works the way my language system works, it's just an extraordinary coincidence that every alien you meet follows Earth's solar calendar and speaks English.
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics? As long as it is not there for fetichistic purposes (which would actually be okay if it is presented as a porn comic), I dont care about any taboo shown in a webcomic, since it could be plot purposes.
>Alt Q: What was something that drew you to a webcomic? Made you pass? Lets see some cases... For Faust Fall, the absolutely terrific art, for Seluda, the artistic direction (is that the word? I dont know), I feel like I could connect with the protagonist despite him being about, well, no connections with anyone, for Oni x Fox wanted to try it due to the style and loved it, in humor and characters is one of my favorites. Same for Flesh Kernel there, one of the bests humor/laughs-wise, while not being presented as a comedy. I feel like humor works better in series not presented as comedy because you arent expecting to laugh. Concord InitiativeĀ“s description/summary turned me off, just like Seluda, but once I read it I fell in love and plot-wise its building up to be a favorite for sure. It might be that I am considerably dumb but I critique those sumaries because they look like rambling... until you read the comic. Well, for me they did.
I have a lot of comics I read, sometimes I start them because a character or the artstyle is cute, im a simple fella. I started Eerily Lovely because it looked cute but wew, its some good shit. Will start the one about the robo girldude soon.
Oh and Witch Hill for the art, but curse hiatuses.
...
Anyways, A Story Of Fire its on a week/two weeks hiatus so I can storyboard chapter 14 and maybe draw some fanart and shit. Have this FUCKING ADORABLE Rau drawn by Luuvy. Not mine. I mean look at it.
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics?
It's not the end of the world if your characters white diverse as long as you have ways on justifying it. Now would I prefer it if there was some diversity in some areas, in some ways yes.
Another one I have is that I'm not really big on people trying hard to rip off anime and manga. You can be inspired but quite frankly I prefer more comic book styled stuff or maybe something more cartoony.
I feel like most webcomics aren't taking advantage of the fact they are webcomics. A lot of them time, folks are hoping some big company is gonna ask to publish their work for print which may never happen. The reason I love webcomics so much is mainly because you can do things that could be impossible in the comic industry.
(also, how can I justfy why someone has blue hair? They're seems to be a stigma with people who dye thei hair so I decided to have non human characters have unnatural hair colors)
>Alt Q: What was something that drew you to a webcomic? Made you pass?
If it clicks it clicks. if it doesn't, it doesn't.
It seems that every webcomic I see is in color, but I'm not sure I want to do it myself, because it would be so much more time consuming than simple black and white. Especially when creating a comic, I want a higher output rate, and color would hold me back. What are the advantages of color? Is my comic more likely to be read if I make it that way?
>What are the advantages of color? Is my comic more likely to be read if I make it that way? Color tends to be more eye-catching than black and white and allows for more subtleties with a larger color and tone range as well as better contrast (things are less likely to be lost in scenes), but it only works well if the comic is colored competently. Bad coloring is still eye-catching, but it's still bad and might be hard to look at for long periods. So yes, you are more likely to get noticed, but it's not a guarantee that readers will stay.
If you want the challenge and to force yourself to get better it might be worth trying full color, otherwise either stick to black and white or limited color palettes (or spot color). You can also consider sticking to black and white for the majority of the comic, but use full color for chapter covers or special pages. Still eye catching, but not the full work load.
Christian Edwards
Black and white is a lot easier for me. And it is definitely possible to make good contrast with it. >You can also consider sticking to black and white for the majority of the comic, but use full color for chapter covers or special pages. Still eye catching, but not the full work load. This is kind of what I was planning to do. It's what a lot of manga artists do. I don't think I've ever actually seen a manga done in full color. Simply because it's much much faster to do B&W. In that case, I'm wondering why so many webcomic artists do color. Seems like such a big task to do by yourself. Marvel and DC comics have multiple artists to speed up the process.
Parker Morgan
>advantages of color? it's like makeup for an ugly drawing manga is planned to be shat out on recycled phonebook paper with the opposite side barely visible on the side you're looking at. I think the majority of korean webtoons are in colour.
>I don't think I've ever actually seen a manga done in full color. I saw some many-many years ago, but it was a "special edition" where the original was in black and white and then redone and re-released as the full color. But yeah, still not done originally in color. Not cost effective in the long run especially if you don't have the dedicated readerbase to rationalize the cost. Fanzines and doujin are sometimes in color, but are often dropped to black and white later due to cost if they wind up long-running. Still not quite the same.
>why so many webcomic artists do color Now that you mention it, I hadn't thought about it before. I don't know why color has become the norm. Maybe it has to do in part with artists trying to hide the manga-loving past and avoiding screentones, or software and internet data rates improving making color easier to do and upload. Or maybe there's some unspoken knowledge like how comic patreons with color have higher numbers than black and white comics.
I'm going to have to do some research later on this. Seems like it might be useful info for later.
Alexander Bailey
>What are the advantages of color? it's a whole new layer of language
>I don't know why color has become the norm. black and white lineart is basically invisible as a thumbnail, color makes images pop especially when they're bright pastel colors
Jordan Lopez
People are good at color but bad at lineart?
Zachary Baker
finally
Asher Anderson
The first point you mention is something I've been personally thinking more about in recent year. After 3 and a half years of drawing mine, and me having changed A LOT in that time (I mean, I finished Uni, became fully independent, got married, got new job, etc...), I kinda wanted my comic to have some sort of positive effect on readers.
I'm saying this because from what I've seen, people who like feeling "represented" in fiction. And since I spend 2 hours a day drawing, why would I use my skill to make people's lives only SLIGHTLY better? I already achieved what I wanted from my comic on a personal level (to write one solid High fantasy epic story arc), which I why I guess I've started looking more outward. Representation is of course a small part of it, mainly I became more concerned about the message I might have been putting out to readers
Fuck, really fucked that sentence. >I'm saying this because from what I've seen, people do like feeling "represented" in fiction. And since I spend 2 hours a day drawing, why wouldn't I use my skill to make people's lives only SLIGHTLY better?
Isaiah Evans
lineart is just less visible as a thumbnail you're not going to click on it if you see it on your feed among 200 images with bright colors
You're doing a heck of a job depicting this power freakout, and describing it as being aware of your lungs is perfect.
Isaac Ramirez
It hurts my brain trying to think about how I'd keep track of time if I was on another planet or in space. I think it makes sense that they would just have to adapt to the new calendar, but would be awkward at it, and possibly have very long-term jetlag.
Lincoln Williams
>chibi overalls hnngg >It's not the end of the world if your characters white diverse how Freudian
Jason Rivera
Piggingbacking off of , I want to draw in black and white, but I am scared that no one will read it because it doesn't have a million bright colors all over the page. I don't care about Patreon followers, though. I'm drawing this comic for fun.
Also, Infinite scrolling hurts my eyes.
Cooper Gray
Oops I replied to the same person twice. I was trying to reply to the first time.
James Peterson
>got married Mazel tov! >people like feeling represented only because they've been told to
Michael Reyes
So once again tiny-screen untechnology is ruining everything. priceless. Got a new reaction image
It works better if you use the edge of the spine to masturbate. Gosh that is a small bible though, and it and the bikini don't have outlines. It's as if- ohhhhhh.
anatomy still needs work but you're getting there.
this is why i'm hesitant on having to start out on tapas because i really don't like the format and i know that it drives a lot of people away. on the subject, does anyone know any good hosting alternatives? i want to set up a website eventually but i don't really know where to start, is comicpress still any good? i haven't got a clue how to use it or where i begin with that
Jack Jones
even webtoons is better than tapas, that's how bad tapas is. I could forgive everything else but it's glitchy as hell to navigate.
Aiden Miller
This made me smile
Liam Morales
People said OPM had bad art, but Looking at this that's not so.
Christopher Lee
it DID have bad art and still does from time to time it's always been charming however also read mob psycho 100
So the first few strips in my comic where hand-drawn and scanned in, and had a ton of misspellings. I was wondering if I should go back and digitize them or if I should just keep moving forward and improving? I know that I'll never like my old work and I'll always get better, but alot of people start with the first strip and I realize I dont have good art still but it's like chris-chan levels for the first few.
I think in a comic like this, fixing spelling mistakes isn't really going to improve the overall experience of the comic. But on the other hand, since the text is digital, it's not like it would be that hard to fix mistakes, right? don't worry bout redoing art.
Aiden Jackson
I cant tell if you think it's so bad that weather or not it's spelled right doesnt matter cause it'll always be shit, or if you're saying the comedy is more important than the quality.
Asher Powell
moo
Juan James
seems like i'm the racist here. the white is suppose to be *aren't.
Eli Scott
Well I wasn't trying to put it that way, but you know, it's still an amateur-level production, both in looks and in humor. I can't discern any improvement in the art, but that's not important. You're putting something out there, and it's going to get better. You chose to change to digital because you liked it better than hand-colored, and that's more important.
Grayson Phillips
Erin is passing by to wish you a good day of making comics.
man I just try to avoid saying "people" or "regular people" when I mean "white people" I swear it's not my fault, it's the media.
Michael Jones
or....and hear this, they just like seeing people like them. just like some white dudes like seeing other white guys in stuff. it's fine for them to like that.
Leo Ramirez
ty erin
Colton Gutierrez
ONE's work is honestly the best example of doing a webcomic to improve. I always want to point people to his work whenever someone comes into the thread wondering if their art is good enough to start a webcomic yet, but it's hard to figure out if it's too japanese for Yea Forums
Brayden Reed
nah, i see alot of artist both east and west that wanna improve, i wished i had that mentality.
theres no appeal to drawing its come down to this: im not going to give my entire paycheck to someone else so they can draw for me instead
Grayson Reed
control, freedom
Nathaniel Harris
Murata does the redraws for publication (jump and viz). The webcomic is still ONE
Not everything has to have value to be "allowed" to do something. Sometimes it's good to enjoy something for your own happiness and mental well-being. Besides, you can call anything you don't personally like silly to make it seem frivolous for a poor argument, doesn't mean anyone (including you) is required to validate it's existence.
Ian Wood
Do you have a skill that you enjoy doing and improving at? I think it takes a certain mindset to become an artist. There are times where it is stressful, frustrating, and not fun, but at the end of the day, it feels good to be able to do it well and have people impressed by your work. Plus, there is something really cool about being able to draw whatever you want from your imagination into reality.
Christopher Garcia
>just like some white dudes like seeing other white guys in stuff I've never once felt that in my life.
Bentley Jackson
what's the appeal of baiting people?
Anthony Gutierrez
alrighty Yea Forums it's thursday which means it's basically friday. Get stuff done for your comics today. I believe in u. Dont doubt yourself because your comic could be literal garbage but if it makes u happy it deserves to exist. Keep some water with u while drawing since it's easy to get dehydrated. Buy some pistacios if you like them as a snack. U deserve happiness anons. Have a blessed weekend and have fun drawing.
but taking your shoes off is polite.. and there's nothing wrong with ending sentences in prepositions. I feel like this doll deserves better, JuHo.
Josiah Walker
moo??
Michael Butler
Working on the next Oni x Fox chapter. Fusazane should NOT be a hairstylist
Thanks so much, Ardi!! I am really glad you ended up enjoying Oni x Fox! For me, having oni in your comic drew me to read it. I've been enjoying your story and characters, plus your continued improvement in drawing has been inspiring me as well!
I've actually been reading your comic just now, I didn't know you were still on /hyw/. I'll put more thought into the email (ETA:whenever) but primarily put more screentime into establishing creatures- I knew most of what came up besides the merrows and fomorians but I still had trouble keeping up with the story at times. You also have the camera very close to your characters, I don't know why but I swear this is a valid complaint. It makes the pages claustrophobic somehow
yea, he's kind of a dick with her they have a wierd relationship! thanks for reading!!
Logan Moore
where can I read your comic
Wyatt Nelson
Agreed with the other guy... I think. I don't care about gay people but I hate the trend of characters declaring they are gay in one line of side dialogue, it feels like a Rickroll you're not allowed to hate. Especially because writers can't or won't do anything with them.
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics? Well, maybe its because why the rise of fame or certian "low quality" Comics... Page 15 of Ghadar Adventures is coming! >ghadar.smackjeeves.com/
Personally, I'm a quality over quantity and although I would happily do black and white, my lineart is kinda bad. So I just use my decent coloring and shading skills To cover up that mistake. Hell, there was a moment in time where I refuse to shade or highlight my art cuz I hated how off balanced it looked. It took a lot of practice to convince to myself shade again. I still can cell shade however
Oh and another unpopular opinion, probably not big on black and white. I can understand why some folks do it but half the time it feels lazy and cheap. I like manga that incorporates shading and grays in their work since it makes things pop for me.or maybe I hate most manga and associate black and white with that.
Hell, I like limited color palette comics as it's a happy medium between black and white and full on color.
Well, you got me! English is not my native language, but i thought to make the comic in English to bring more audience!
Dominic Allen
I thought an event was to make voting for characters or drawing stuff, not that I needed credentials. I dont draw so nevermind then, I tried. I just read.
Oliver Allen
Your typo made it confusing. You said "even ideas"
Aiden Mitchell
you are right, fucked up
Jeremiah Turner
No problem, post in here and I'll help In the meantime though I just flat-out didn't understand that post.
>art gets better by making a web comic That's false. There's only a one in a million chance that your art will improve and it's almost impossible for someone to tell. It's why I always deleted my old webcomics.
Kayden Hall
Well good effort anyway. Whatever idea you suggest just remember most people's art level is quite low here, so it has to be something simple that everyone can enjoy.
Connor Sullivan
Rude
Landon Wood
you get better by doing the same thing over and over, that's just how it works that doesn't mean you can't go in the wrong direction and make your art more unpleasant to look at though
Like an anthology including different comics crossing over for one story that's separate but connected somehow? I'd be interested!
Kevin Johnson
as in connected thematically yeah Ideally it'd not be too much of a time sink, so 1-3 pg short stories from multiple people
Ryan Barnes
could I use my existing characters? How are you planning on doing this? I"m always interested in anything that can help get me out there, and collaborating with other artists would be fun!
Henry Murphy
i would be in. Need to know whats the theme though and think about a good short story.
Isaiah Cox
I wanted to see if people were interested and we'd decide on a theme together and go from there. This could just be open to anyone in this thread and have entries be due by whenever, afterwards deciding on the cover and where to share
Jayden Gonzalez
pushed out the initial 3 pages for a project i've been brewing. not really good at art so went for something different. 0 dialogue story about soldiers and the things that happen to them
A creative way to get around being good at art, for sure. This looks like it's going to be super artistic and probably say a bunch of stuff. Like with meaning.
Dylan Parker
Well what are we doing for themes? I cant think of any. I assume we'd link to each other' sites to cross-promote?
Gabriel Torres
I figure cross-promotion wouldn't do much, better to aim for various people on forums and whatnot through individual posts. Which brings me to my idea on how we can choose themes. I think that anthologies with some buzz are rooted in broader themes that have some sort of relevance in society (e.g. "LGBT High-Fantasy Anthology" vs "Fantasy Anthology"). With that said we should choose a good root topic people are interested in and then pick a genre to go with it.
Jeremiah Foster
thanks, that's nice to hear. i wasn't exactly sold on the style to begin with but I'm pushing myself to just make something at this point.
i hope it doesn't come off as too try-hard artistic as in the vibe you're getting (not that there's anything wrong with stories that aim for that, don't get me wrong), it's kind of an action oriented narrative with some introspective downtime. I wouldn't want to jump the gun and get my dopamine fix from relenting the plot this fast, but I have a twitter if anybody wants to keep an eye on this
>if you combine 5 things at once you get something unique Well shit, that's an interesting one. I'm a pretty competent writer (horn status: tooted) but that seems like a great way to generate ideas or speed outlines along. What the number 5 brings me to in this context is the 5 Ws in reporting: Who/What/Where/When/Why. Not sure where to go with that line of thought but it'll give me something to consider when drafting.
Hudson Reyes
well death is a good one, obviously. I mean that's something that can apply to any setting but it's also pretty cliche.
Nathaniel Nguyen
funny you should mention that, here's a death-focused one
we did some short themed comics in the past, it wasn't a thing we put together in the end but then we usually only got 2 or 3 entries. I feel like we should repost our old thread content once in a while, I wanna experience those memories again
David Clark
I like the idea of this, as if we were co-producing a magazine. If this does go anywhere, don't rush it. Also, don't go for identity stuff (LGBT/race/ethnicity/gender/etc). The relevance to society comes from writing universally human characters and themes, not the other way around. Archetypes that rely on the current culture are just stereotypes.
New pages of Fire Squad are up. I haven't posted my comic here before but here it is. I started the comic to get better at drawing so give me any comments you have.
anthologies are great but im not sure they sell very well. I picked up a random issue of such a thing from a newsagent here some years back. couple years later I decided to google and look into what it actually was, turns out it only made a few more issues after mine before stopping as the guy in charge said nothing was selling.
Xavier Hall
This is a cute way to do simple art. does Tapas really make you mark shit mature just for the word fuck? or talking about a cigarette redundantly dipped in formaldehyde? Anyway I'll bookmark it but it'll be annoying having to log in every so often yeah i have to admit, I love anthologies on TV but for comics it's like why get invested, this won't last.
William Morgan
i marked it mature for the swears. I wasn't really sure of tapas rules on it. I can always unhide it.
Easton Williams
thank u fren
Jaxon Morris
i've fallen into this trap. i think it has something to do with getting a feel for said characters outside of the constraints of that narrative. it serves a purpose I guess but there's no real excuse when you're already on a schedule
I think it's a decent way of seeing if people are interested in your character.
Thomas Brooks
not that I have any strong feelings on selling, but I imagined this being more for getting eyes on our own main webcomics im not sure why you'd need to get invested, unless this is planned to be part of a reocurring series. Its a one-time thing to and share around the web as advertisement. Its like as if I wanted to bundle everyone's favorite webcomic page they made to show around as "the webcomics of artists on hyw/kaw", only there's a reason for someone to look at it beyond liking webcomics
Charles Watson
To be fair sometimes it's an easy way to blow off steam and do something ooc for characters of your story, or just stuff that's irrelevant to the story or chapter. But I agree when the creator spends ALL of their time doing irrelevant drawings while constantly putting off their webcomic it's really annoying and makes me want to drop that shit hard.
Gabriel Nguyen
Good luck, user. Running anthologies is like herding cats. I've done two and while I'm happy with the results it's something I haven't rushed back into doing.
Elijah Kelly
this isn't /r9k/ buddy
Liam Butler
thanks Are the anthologies you helped make online? What were they about?
Lucas Long
One of them's online. One is a physical book I kickstarted. They're both sci-fi/fantasy anthologies. One's theme was too vague for me to really put into words now that I think back on it. The other was a bunch of stories in space that don't have imperialism as a core theme.
Carson Ortiz
I really need to get better at Clipstudio. Toning manually is Hell.
Feel free to shame me into working harder, I was a bit lazy with this.
What's your current method? Somebody might be able to give you tips to improve.
Jacob Jones
I agree 100 times
Owen Fisher
I personally don't use color except on novelty pages, to reduce the number of design questions. tapas.io/episode/1384737
Dominic Young
Maybe I don't understand because I don't really have a following. I feel like followers would appreciate that stuff a lot more and it goes into starting that feedback loop
btw I also have a webcomic and I'd love it if people checked it out, I recently released a fatass 54 page update for it. It's called Murky Deeds.
Tbh I really like the look of black and white comics but most of the time I physically cant read them as the high contrast makes me feel dizzy and nausous, alot of times the colours help smooth it out so its not complete black on white. So I would suggest if making a black and white comic to make it off white and very dark grey
Logan Jones
does screentone/halftone and coloring with greytones help at all?
Jaxon Cruz
Try to add more 3 dimensional volum to the head, it looks really flat which cancels out the illusion of it trying to be tilted back
Henry Foster
This is so much hotter now that I know its a guy
James Foster
Man i want to see you in our Discord, please say "yes".
Lincoln Gray
Was this something you did with people on the internet or was it between you and friends?
Daniel Perry
Yeah those usually help since it blends the two contrasting tones together so its not harsh on the eyes.
I just remember trying to read comics when I was younger that were just pure black and white with no half tones/cross hatching to help ease the contrasting tones and then passing out from the nausea trying to push myself through it because the comic was really interesting
Jace Powell
I miss having that level of absurdity working for me.
Kevin Sanchez
Hi guys. I was busy working on side project but now I can get back to drawing my comic! Also I figured out my graphic programe has stabilizers so I'll be inking new pages digitally from now on. Please check the English please.
This page may look like a normal page of my comic... but it really a first page of my new series - Utsukishi (low) Resaura!
Yeah, it looks like my camscan wants me to feed it some money finally. Thankfully I don't need to so that because now I will need only the sketch which I can adjust as I like and don't care if it's pixelated.
First one was done with online friends and some people I hadn't known beforehand. The second was mostly online comics pros.
Thomas Johnson
how do you guys get yourselves to just slow down and let yourselves get the work out you'd like to instead of something more rushed/imperfect? It's something I really struggle with especially with text
Well I'm writing a story I might turn into a comic.
Joseph Rivera
If you were to dabble in a short-story, what theme and genre would you be most interested in exploring out of the following? Pick a number/letter combination(e.g. 1a, 3b, etc):
1)Aging 2)Sexuality 3)Violence
a)Fairy Tale b)Historical Non-Fiction c)Western
Bentley Ramirez
One person can really only go to one border, not plural borders. You could say the borderlands, if that's a region. important* hehe, low res.. honey you shouldn't have to spend money on a scanning program, those are free.
Ayden Scott
I do the text first, it's my drawing warmup
Juan Parker
Probably sexuality and fairy tail, but that's just because I ove drawing gay trap porn with elves lol
Eli Ramirez
Should my spy be wearing russian military outfits on missions to look cool or metal gear sneaking suits for the potential horny dollars?
Parker Phillips

Josiah Thomas
Reminder that you're dogshit at art and comics and need to git gud
Camden Brown
yes thank you
My episode 2 is about to finish so I have been concept sketching for #3
they gotta keep out the rifraff like me, you give your discord name and youll get invited in
Sebastian Lee
How far ahead do you make your character sheets?
Christopher Sanchez
>avoiding tangents pacing or an art thing?
Grayson Jenkins
talking about lines touching other lines or things or panel borders or word bubbles in a way that's awkward or distracting I don't think that's controversial, I see people harping on that all the time. Usually I feel they take it too far, and neglect to take opinion into account
Connor Garcia
the manga has gay elf porn?
Xavier Sullivan
Line work mostly done for the next page. Not thrilled with the first panel perspective, but the train keeps moving.
why does Clip Studio hide so many of its features? I just now noticed ANOTHER set of subtool subsettings accessed by another wrench icon, and found out you can click an eye symbol next to each to add it to or remove it from your normal settings This is the best program ever but it tells you none of this
Michael Ward
Just finished the storyboard for Chapter 14. I feel like sadly I wont be able to put many interactions between Azu and the other oni leaders (Galog, Caera and Zain) who follow her but I guess its not really important character wise.
Characters that were on the first part like the oni leaders, Azu, captain Bazak, Nura and Tamamo will be reappearing since the story will drop the slightly slice of life-ish plot it had the last three chapters and dive full into action again.
>why does Clip Studio hide so many of its features? The previous versions were worse, but yeah they still need to make things more intuitive At least they are semi-aware of the issue and try and compensate it with a lot of help (which they don't fuken advertise...)
I think this is as far as I can go with this page. There are technically more to be done, but I can't keep going. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I just want to get more out.
while I agree with the first theme choices (though a bit edgy) I don't think limiting our options in storytelling with a stablisehd setting such as western and fairy tales will help the anthology, I think just having a broad theme and letting everyone have their interpretation and setting is way better
Liam Sanders
his pauldron appears to be missing too. I think what happens is that, on the way to finding where all the fairies are (rather than just grabbing any old fairy like the one in panels 1 and 2) the lionman stripped down. Probably the only way to get near the fairies. DIsguise himself as a regular lion so they wont be afraid. in between panels 3 and 4, he apparently used his LEFT paw to rip the fairy in half and get the magic goo on it, since he grabbed it with the right paw..
Caleb Harris
agree with this. Picking a theme is a great idea, but let the setting/kind of story be of choice.
As for the themes presented, dunno. Any is okay for me. I guess aging is the best, but it seems difficult.
I think it's just because the spine has that weird mushroom bulge, so it looks like the book is kinda floating and only touching the surface on that bulge. Come to think of it, would a book even be readable like that? Typically you want the spine to have a CONCAVE shape, not convex
Easton Gray

Maybe it's like a ring binder. Those are technically convex spines. You're right though. It looks odd on a hardbound tome. Or maybe this is the type of book to be read horizontally like a wall calendar? I would honestly miss this detail the first pass or two since I write than draw.
It's from my failed game Kickstarter years ago. It was pretty dumb and I learned more about time management and discovered that I'm trash at marketing. It's styled after Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1) because that game is awesome.
Jacob Harris
this post is coldfusion
Xavier Perez
looks awesome. It sucks how you can be great at some parts of making a game, or even all the parts, but if you aren't good at marketing yourself you're fucked, and someone else with a shitty product will win. I would like to see more democracy and meritocracy involved I like sprites.
Page done, just in time to be posted for this week's update of The Concord Initiative. We're drawing ever closer to the long awaited end of the first chapter.
The alternative being? You're leagues ahead of most people who have comics on the internet, even if, like the test of us, you have plenty to learn and polish.
New page for me--I think this one came out really good, but it's leagues away from where it should be in terms of refinement and technical quality. Best way to improve is to do. Go for it, bud.
If you're feeling confused about paneling or order I'd suggest checking it out, H0ly at least has a popular well done comic to back the tips up. Just keep in mind the rules for internet "information"; be skeptical and don't take everything as unquestionable truth. They're tips, not laws.
God not only took the first saturday off, he later took this particular date off from -being alive- I think we can take it off from working on our comics
Lemme present you what i've been working on this week I'm exhausted, but there it is. I'll design the logo next and the cover art later! Tell me what you think! 1/4

Violence creates gore, that's like talking about a sad story without showing tears or frowns.
Joseph Reed
Personally I love excessive, even comedic amounts of blood, and people getting multiple lacerations, contusions, and visibly broken bones but I don't want to see any exposed organs, bones, or anything else meant to stay inside. I guess it's just the way I was raised.
Nathan Hill
It's okay /hyw/ lots of people who make webcomics can't draw!
>but just hearing that, I'm out Don't be a bitch, bitch. but also agreed Also, you- try to get Mad Magic or Otto or someone on board with this (someone definitely good) before moving ahead with plans... And put on a trip, engage with the crowd- I don't like the 'glorification of violence' clause either because that just sounds adorably quaint. It'd go over much better if you said something like "I don't like it, it feels schlocky/I'm selling physical copies/Google Ads don't like it" etc. Your posts barely have replies, you're blending in
... Also don't share this around physically, just make an Imgur album or something
This is like the most basic ass power system that's been in every fantasy story/Table top RPG/JRPG/etc for like, four decades.

>Can I post it on the comic? Do you have a name to credit you with? Sure, but if you wait til tomorrow I can give you a colored version so you can choose between lineart and color. As for the name, you can just say it's from "an user". I'm not active online right now, so no user/name to give.
You should! It's always nice to see in the threads and everyone appreciates when their comic is recognized
Zachary Gomez
gore is blood and torn limbs and intestines hanging out. violence is exploding bombs, gunfights, getting hit in the head, drinking too much tobasco.

Oliver Cooper
Hey, /hyw/, haven't posted here in a while.
I'm reworking Asylum Adventures with a similar premise and new characters. Apart from Jason and Tina I've already made the two here.
Plot: a ton of kids are waking up in this weird, well maintained compound with four quadrants (North, East, South and West) and a commons in between. They're always supplied food, medicine, etc. by unknown sources.
The comic deals with the North Side residents (Jason, Tina, Craig) and their misadventures trying to figure out what the point of all this is.
finish a chapter then we'll se if it has potential
Kayden Richardson
Ill wait then! Thank you very mucho again. Anonymous shall be.

>Violence creates gore, that's like talking about a sad story without showing tears or frowns.
remember when tom and jerry started bleeding from their eyeballs after all the fighting theyd been doing? messy stuff.
Oliver Rogers
Isn't it weird how we all think it's tobasco, even though it's tabasco? I STILL think it's tobasco, even though I " " know " " it's tabasco.
Adrian Rivera
Maybe. it's tough to establish such a big mystery that there's literally no room in the story for anything not related to the mystery, it never goes away for a minute, it constantly builds tension every minute you aren't revealing it... and then actually provide a satisfactory explanation.
Grayson Allen
chrome underlined it as a mistake but I figured it just didn't have the word and hit post.
Nicholas Wilson
I should clear that up, there's lots of side plots and all that, but the question driving the story is what the hell is happening
Dominic Garcia
calling slapstick violence is a bit like calling hats clothing. Sure, people do it, but it doesn't provide any of the required characteristics, it's just made of a few of the same ingredients.
David Harris
That's another weird thing, it's a trademarked product but it's become heavily genericized, to the point that we don't have a proper word for that specific type of hot sauce (the kind that is just cayenne and vinegar), just "hot sauce" which can mean a lot of things.
Liam Bennett
As long as you know what you're in for and you're ready to handle that, go for it.

"behaviour involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something." intention to - hurt. damage. kill. you can portray hurt and damage to somebody without gore. its a thing. im not just a crazy user on the internet shit posting.

Ayden Thomas
in the case of a medium you can claim it as violence with the author/creators intention to hurt. irl it's just hurting yourself.
Kevin Cruz
>irl it's just hurting yourself irl a boulder falling on you at random is hurting yourself? because it's clearly not intended damage. Really not trying to shitpost here, but my inner Diogenes can't let your 'featherless biped' definition stand.
>Kino potential? Maybe! Your drawing looks like it's around BACK's level and the set up sounds interesting. Land the characterization and dialogue and shit and you'll have people praising it all over.
I'm not sure how to go about this, I've never watched either, but look up people talking about the endings of Lost and Battlestar Galactica. They're both series that had a lot of mysteries thrown up in the air and ended disappointingly. I'm not sure if there will be anything immediately applicable for your thing but you'll have a lot of people putting brainpower to better telling a mystery story.
>show my mom my comics >tell her I'm going to make it one day >she tiredly flips through them and shakes her head telling me it's not that easy to make it >doesn't even look me in the eye as she hands it back who else /worthlessdisappointment/ here
>Kino potential? Depends on your ability of to write mystery, really. With this setting, definitely prepare for a lot of The Promised Neverland comparisons, if you plan to release this year.

Hey folks. Sorry if I've been quiet for the last few threads. Just taking a break from my series while I focus on smaller projects/obligations. I'll likely start updating again on May 5th.
For now, here's a character sheet I made for a comic collaboration I'm doing with two other artist friends. He's/it's our protagonist. I currently call him Rostok (Russian for sprout.)
Aww, thank ya, mate. This was a pleasant surprise, and I really appreciate that you took the time to draw my creepy darling Stella.
Your color scheme is really good too, considering I never gave her one. I based Stella's design off of Creepy Susie (mostly the eyes), Little My, and Heloise, plus a few anime/manga tropes (creepy/giddy demeanor, for example.) I envisioned her either being a red-head or a brunette, so you did well picking that color. And yellow eyes, too! Another spot-on choice. I probably would've made the dress a warm gray, but a muted purple works, too (goes better with my idea of her sleeves being a black with wiry highlights.) I usually envisioned her feathered cloak being an off-white, but the warm brown works better with the purple.
I think my only criticism is Stella's missing the burned skin on the right side of her body, but I could consider this a pre-burnt/past version of her, lol.
Overall, fantastic work. I'm happy to make this the first in my fanart folder. Thank you, again!
To clarify the "gore" and "glorify violence" rules... The goal here first and foremost is getting this work out there, in the already overfilled and underlooked space webcomics is. I want this to be something that can gain some sort of views through twitter and the like, and keeping things under control will help (I couldve added some "profanity" rule, but whatevs). Since I want this project to be for this community, that is, one filled with folk who are nowhere near the top of the webcomic scene but are passionate enough to try and make art, I am cool with skill levels of all kind. That said, if this peice of work will be lenient on "professionalism" in the art sense, there needs to be a reason why someone will click on this, only if for a second. I'd think "passionate art that varies in quality will leave you thinking about violence" is a much, MUCH bigger sell than "random violent webcomic".

More of a triangle of advantages. Robots are divided into three classes, Power, Speed and Tech. Speed beats Power, Power beats Tech and Tech beats Speed. Thing is, only beginners fully rely on this, a Power robot could find ways to trip up and smash a Speed bot.

I had a lot of trouble with those burnt marks because in some panels I interpreted them as very stylized shading, so I was unsure whether they were really there or not. Damn. Well, take it as a young Stella then, guess we can go with that.
Julian King
I kinda do it's still a work in progress though. the basic gist is: The magic system i made was intended to be universal since my "metahumans" or superhumans (overnaturals) are kinda similar to mages. IO is basically mana and the higher in tier you are, the more likely you waste IO. I do have plans on talking about the different classes(power types), levels (power potential), and tier (base power? i'm not sure about this one but i'm sure there was a name for it).
it's not super simple but the basics is you draw the IO within you and channel it into a power. it's recommend not to overexert yourself unless you want to risk losing your powers for a week.
Damn straight. If only I could satisfy my hunger by rubbing my stomach.
Owen Barnes
Maybe! Who's you?
Andrew Allen
Elfth Night would have been a little obscure. Good on ya.

It's cute girls like this that make me miss the old swimsuit catfight tournament. Would you be interested in having Rau fight in one?
Brody Evans
after a full month without an update, I can finally post a page. really hoping I can get a backlog built to keep me going until the end of the semester.
Love it user, saved, and color definitely makes it look even better. Fanart always makes me so happy.
Sure! Honestly, people dont have to ask me to draw my characters, I feel like every creator loves that. Also >swimsuit catfight tournament Was that something that actually happened in these threads or was the "old" just an expression?
Terrible as always What even is the plot here? Do you have a script written or do you just pull shit out your ass for each page?
Easton Evans
They're baiting out Neptunia so that they can interrogate her, pay attention user.

Alrighty all solved the situation with my artist for the next Tales story so things are now back on track. Page 6 of Tales will be up this friday and next story won't have any delays with updates (since all the pages are done and lettered).
>What are your most controversial opinions when it comes to webcomics?
Not every creator is your friend. Alot of people have this thought process that the comic community is all buddy-buddy with everyone but that's BS. You don't shut everyone out but you be wary of people you put your trust into, don't be an open book to every creator you meet.
It was something that happened. Drama and bullshit and poor organization killed it, but it happened. It was vaguely magical girl themed. Milly from Witchways Witch was in it. There was a hot brown dragon girl.
The rules were that everyone made a comic page of their girl fighting and beating their opponent and they would both be in swimsuits and bikinis for sex appeal. Loser would have to draw a pic of their girl giving up to the loser. Mild lewdness was encouraged.
Earthfield technically but it was a shitshow because Earthfield got to advance to the next round even though he lost because Witchway's Witch quit and then the other guy quit so he won.
There was a lot of dropping out over the "1 whole page comic" requirement. If we do it again its just going to be a sketch of the fight as the requirement for entry.
We got some nice art out of it anyhow.
Jack Russell
Do you have any characters though? That's all you need to enter.
Gavin Powell
Thrilling stuff. Can't wait to see how that turns out

Blake Diaz
Drama is always annoying, but the idea in general sounds pretty damn fun. Dunno how sexy it would actually be since I dont find most comic characters particulary sexy, my oni girls included. But definitely fun.
Makes sense to just keep it at a sketch and whoever wants to go further is free to.
Gavin Lee
>Dunno how sexy it would actually be since I dont find most comic characters particulary sexy, my oni girls included.
It was more just cheesecake fun than actually being sexy.
Nothing really happened to me in particular but it's just come from observations, mostly when I went around in the indie comics community. Alot of people will maintain this friendly persona but backstab you the instant it'll be convenient for them or when a tough subject comes up. I usually have a thought process of keeping things professional (only talking about your work, helping each out on some pages) first then slowly going from there to see if it can become actual friendship.
Some people get way too chatty about themselves in starting convos. I once had some accidentally send a sex vid of themselves to me, at least I hope it was accidental. I deleted that shit and didn't talk to that guy for weeks
I would be in. Well, id be in for any HYW event if it happens. As long as great art is not a requirement.
Matthew Ward
It get fetishy at time. One fight was won by a facesit. Another was a kiss my foot match. Another ended with bondage and pleading.
Gabriel Lopez

The fire rises. Rules given: a reinterpretation or original fairytale (so probably can't use one's standing cast of characters for it), 2-5 pages, to be compiled into an anthology. All skill levels welcome but try for nuance. Not me, I'm just talking about it to make sure it isn't forgotten. By the way I've seen your name before but I don't know which comic is yours, who are you?
Jaxson Baker
Sometimes HYW is legit good.
Benjamin Myers
Since you're in, can you post a picture of whoever it is you're entering and tell a little about who they are and what their powers are? Also basic rules--no killing, no maiming. If you want the match to have particularly humiliating stakes like make sure you're opponent is okay with it. And don't chicken out if you lose and have to make a surrender sketch.
Nicholas Cooper
I make A Story Of Fire, comic about oni girls. From the ONI GANG. Im interested, however I think the clausule "glorification of violence" is too subjective to be there. 2-5 pages then, till June? Im sure I can do something. Also for this to work at least four people have to be interested. For now I guess you are just getting volunteers.
Im in but its the same in this case, others should be in too. As for lewdness, eh... Rau is too goddamn pure. Maybe Azu but Azu is too goddamn straight. Still, im willing to do stuff like that only if im not alone in it, it draws the difference between having somewhat lewd fun and prostituting your characters. I dont know if it makes sense.
>Indie comics community >friendly persona but backstab you the instant it'll be convenient for them Well, that's familiar. I had a similar incident happen to me, also being an observer of it and not participating.
Short version is there was a local indie comic group that invited me to join in one of their meetings and maybe participate in a future print (physical distro, this was 10-ish years ago). They were all sweet and friendly before the meeting started, but not even two people into the introductions they started smack talking a couple of members who had called ahead to say they wouldn't make it. I thought maybe I came on a bad day, but nope. Both meetings after that they continued to act like that and then try and get me to take their side, but sweet talk those same people when they showed up later/next meeting. I was still a teenager then and they decided to give me a front row seat on shitty comic communities before I could experience anything else. Not gonna lie, had a case of schadenfreude when I heard they had shut down a couple years later.
Benjamin Morgan
>Rau is too goddam pure That makes it even better user.
Cameron King
Does it involve that guy that scammed Dewd that Capeworld did a podcast about?
Leo Smith
It makes total sense. I don't expect anyone to contribute anything until we have 4 people. Though we might one-vs-one it if we only end up with you and someone else. We'll see.
What can Rau do in terms of powers and stuff? Does she have any fighting experience?
Ethan Campbell
Nah, this was an anthology type of print and different locale, if I remember right. (This is upper mid-west, not sure where the one you're talking about was) Their original pitch to me was that if they had some space someday I *might* get to put out a 1-2 page comic for a coming issue. We never got past that point, so I can't say it was a scam from what I saw. Just run by some genuinely shitty people on all other accounts.
Dylan Sanders
Oni super strength, enough to flip a carriage or lift a tree. Great hearing and sense of smell, claws and fangs, slow regeneration unless she is hurt by blessed weapons, can only be killed by decapitation. Can also jump really really high.
In her current state since she doesnt eat humans during fights her body goes into survival mode, which means she is even stronger but after a minute the strenght goes away and she becomes limp.
She has some fighting experience, but is reticent to fight in general currently. Not that she has technique since most onis in my story just win because of their regeneration and strenght.
Sketch work of Page 19 for Tom N Artie #2, currently waiting for a friend to give some advice/redline some of the stuff before I have my artist continue.
I've been wondering, would it be a better idea to just start uploading Issue 2 when it's done? It'll be 24 pages long, page a week can last a bit with that. Friends been telling me I should wait till I have Issue 3, 4 and 5 finished up then ready to go before I begin uploading. Thing is I'm nowhere near done with the script for three yet and I feel making people wait (which will honestly be) another 3 months just to see the already finished Issue 2 then 3 just feels like a waste.
> I don't expect anyone to contribute anything until we have 4 people. Though we might one-vs-one it if we only end up with you and someone else I think you confused two conversations- '4 people' in that context would mean the fairytale anthology. Speaking of- > Also for this to work at least four people have to be interested. For now I guess you are just getting volunteers I don't have a comic yet but I'm tentatively volunteering if I can come up with any good ideas for it, so that's 1-2 entries there. My worry is that too much MS paint line tool might drag the whole anthology down
Gavin Price
I'm also aiming for 4 people for the catfight tournament because it's easy to make seeds out of. Two semis and a final.
Brandon Adams
I nominate Nyamo
Aaron Nguyen
>My worry is that too much MS paint line tool might drag the whole anthology down You're overthinking it. It's meant to be fun, not to be the best of the best or "your skill must have this much skill before participating". Besides, it's like that cake metaphor. No one cares if one cake is uglier than the rest, they're more excited that there are TWO cakes to eat.
>3 months I was on the fence til this part. Three months is far too long to wait. Personally as a reader I'd prefer one page a week over nothing for months.
Anthony Cruz
>My worry is that too much MS paint line tool might drag the whole anthology down its the effort that counts
Dylan Jackson
>too long a wait Yeah I get that because it's been pretty much a year since Issue 0 and 1 went up. I noticed that my subs on it dropped by one or two people a month ago. I feel it's not fair to make the reader wait anymore, Tales is fun but 1 has been sitting on a cliffhanger for a while that I'm sure people want to see continued already.
There still may be a wait to get Issue 3 made but Issue 2 becoming available might be the kick I need to get writing.
/hyw/ is always good. I'm still too much of a lazy cunt to finally make my comic already but seeing so many people here regularly update theirs and really stick to their goals makes me so happy, it's fucking inspiring man. I hope to be posting my own stuff soon.
Carson Collins
Same. Having more stuff to read and look forward to every week is nice, too.
Benjamin Mitchell
I feel the anthology works if its for fun, if it is for actual promotion you probably need some big names from here.
Yeah I guess I would go with her since its the main girl.
Indeed. But I would probably go tame with her if the event happens. Probably.
Lucas Rogers
Do you guys sketch out multiple pages at a time, or do you completely finish a page before moving on to the next one? I have been doing rough sketches for pages and then moving on to the next. I figure i would go back and do line work and shit later. I kinda want to see the story play out before i finalize anything. (also it feels like i get more done than i actually do.) Im just curious what you guys do.
Jason Carter
the professionals do the former, I rarely do.
Mason Hall
I storyboard the chapter then finish page per page. Sketching everything together is pointless to me because I might want to change something if I realize im getting too repetitive.
Ayden Murphy

weirdest harem recruitment post ever

It's gonna be DOA. Nyamo is the dominant pussy force in these parts, and she's trying to build a webcomic author harem with the other discord. Female hyenas are very territorial and protective of their pack.

How was the winner decided? Voting?
Easton Hernandez
Let me guess. Girls (male) only?
Storyboard multiple pages and finish one at a time. I'm probably an autist so I believe in quality over quantity. Good content needs time and I like pages to have color too. Non-color comics I see as the domain of mangas and weekend newspaper strips. That's not a bad thing, it's just not what I set out to make. Color to me is the industry standard. It slows stuff down but it gives more time to think about what goes on in every page. Not as helpful for lighter fare genres. I'm not a fast person in general.
Julian Wright
so its like chi but with longer recharge? what governs tier? the types of applications of IO you use?

Given all the weird textures in that series, I can see why you thought that. You did well, despite that lil flaw. Canonically, she was perfectly un-burnt at one point, lol.
>Hey, do you take commissions? Your art style would be perfect for this character I've been working on!
Coincidentally, I'm currently finalizing my commission prices/offers and just figuring when to make them public (based on the $3/coffee from ko-fi.) So yeah, I am taking commissions, just haven't openly advertised it yet. But if you're interested in doing business, feel free to DM me on social media, and we can discuss the details and exchange emails:

From what I've read, the old rates will still be in effect for you if you create an account, even if you wait to do anything with it til later. If there's a chance you want a patreon later you might as well do it now and take advantage of the old rates when you do get it set up.

Your comic is a bit more freeform and creative than most. I think the first thing a lot of us learn is control and consistency, which tends to weed out that sort of thing
Just because coldfusion's drawn some risque content involving younger girls for the sake of COMEDY, doesn't mean he's a pedophile. Even the greats like Tezuka and Miyazaki have drawn young girls naked in their works.

Cute and funny are alright. The prime rule is "don't treat your opponent's character in a way that they don't want." So if you want the loser of the fight to be stripped to her underwear or kiss the opponent's foot or whatever make sure your opponent is cool with the idea first.
Okay. So are you in?

The girl that does Oni X Fox is way too damn pure for Yea Forums.
