you damn well know most people here are going to say no
if by good you mean iredeemably shit then yes
Yeah, it’s pretty good
yes
Yeah, I'd say so. Watching it back to back is the best way to do it though.
i liked it
I would go with neutral good
Only if you are a female (male) or a minority,
It's good. Not great but good. Far from the worst cartoon ever but also far from the best. People can be really hyperbolic about it.
take a closer look at that get!
>what it is
a deep-lore cartoon
>what others see
muh LGBT-diversity empowerment cartoon wow epic
No
S1-S2 is the only good stuff
the bad overtake the good
There was a point where it was fun monster of the week shenanigans thing we had an interest in trying to learn more about the show lore but then it caught the gays and it never recovered.
So I tried it because my friend who plays CS:GO and has an anime girl Steam avatar wanted me to. Honest reaction: not particularly good or bad. It's no Adventure Time and it certainly tries to be with amazing inspiring adventure of the episode. The one thing that set it apart is everyone in the show frequently fails. While different it seems the message behind it is just because you're a pathetic fuck up, it's not your fault and people should never ever forget how special and unique you really are. It takes the everyone is special message to new heights, which I think is a shitty message to lay on some kid who will need to face reality some day and the fact that most of us are not really special at all and won't be going on amazing adventures while we work boring ass jobs to pay the bills. So yeah, I didn't care for it, but I also don't care if you do like it, that's fine... just stop fucking shipping you fucking freaks
I love people who pretend Adventure Time was ever good
It has good qualities and had a lot of potential. I'd say it's alright at best. It's very poorly written and handled
yeah it's fun
The first few seasons were a little rough around the edges, but generally pretty damn good.
It has some pacing issues that got more apparent as time went on, and there's a lot of shit that doesn't really get explored like it should though.
Then the whole Pink Diamond thing happened and everything went from "alright" to "holy shit what the fuck are ya doin'?"
Nuance; I love it.
>mfw saw this thread
It is, but if you're going in for an action cartoon or something other than a show that mixes teaching kids about emotional intelligence with the aesthetic trappings of magic girl/science fantasy shows, you'll be disappointed.
There was a point in Season 1 where it looked like it was going to transition to an action show--and that point is where I know I ended up onboard because I thought it would be--but it returned to form shortly afterwards. It led a lot of people to assume it would become more about fight scenes and space battles, but it doubled down even more on human concepts of identity and relationships with others.
The action stuff most likely came from Ian which you can see pretty clearly in OK KO whereas the core of the show, the emotional stuff, is totally Rebecca. I like a mix of both, but I will say it was nice to have a big action-packed finale for the end of season 5. In fact I'd say season 5 is the closest in tone to season 1 out of all the "post Ian" seasons.
About the same just adventure time was sometimes funny.
2 seasons and then everything went to hell
It okay
no
yes, but stop watching after season 2
Jasper is the only good part
>Good
lol
>People who have not rewatched S1+S2 in a while
Season 2 is only great on a first watch when Peridot's arc was fresh and most of her episodes aren't exactly top tier even then.
The worst I can say about it is that it's really boring.
Like man, it was a chore to watch purely on the grounds no one had any charisma.
Especially Steven, who's whole character around "make love, not war" was undermined by the fact no one was actually a threat, and just needed to be talked to.
Which is fine, but at least make the MC worth caring about.
It's why I love Wander and Vash. Yeah they're peace loving hippies, but dammit if they arent charming as all hell
Wasn't a fan of it. I know some people who praise it, but they're the same people that think LOK is amazing.
I like parts of steven universe.
I think Rebecca Sugar is a great talent who most likely let her boarders have too much freedom. For the time being, her common law husband appears to have learned from SU, with his show being better in general.
Only S1 was good, then it took a massive nosedive in quality
Started out interesting, them hunting gems and monsters.
Turned into a boring steven cries like a baby every episode and townie nonsense bullshit while the world is right bout to end.
Normally i'd reply with I think its complete shit, but honestly I just don't understand what it was trying to accomplish, aside from pushing a narrative. The action is good enough to call it an action series, the comedy was good enough to call it comedy, the drama was laughable, the music was meh, and the character interaction were bleh, its honestly like they wanted a generic slice of life, but realized that they didn't tote it as such to the producers. The only thing I can really praise is the backgrounds, at least those look kinda nice...
It's best episodes are mediocre, the rest are complete trash
It’s better than Adventure Time
Adventure time died way before its finale user.
It's subpar. But still good comfy viewing.
You might like it at first until you start seeing the unprofessional standards of the production value, but maybe you could let that slide. Later they will begin to exploit young viewers with LGBT shit though. The gay stuff was one thing but the most recent finale was starting to get into trannie stuff, which stevonnie already sort of did before. I'm torn because I like some of the atmosphere of the show but there's a lot of exploiting in the show.
Almost every single SU thread is yours and you hate Season 2 cause Peridot appeared there and she became the most popular character and a possible EndGame for Steven. You prefer season 4 cause you like stupid boring characters like Connie but Season 4 was shit
It's like when you didn't want to accept Rose was gone cause you shipped RosePearl
Meme gremlin fags are THIS mad.
> unprofessional standards of the production value
This is a valid criticism
>exploit young viewers with LGBT shit
This is paranoia
Peridot is objectively a good character, Zuke ruined her but it doesn't make Connie better and she has always been a boring character. You hate Lapis too cause she's another love interest for Steven
Seasons 3, 4 and 5 were bad
Only for the chubby shota fap fuel.
too bad he’ll likely go full Caitlyn Jenner once the series finale comes around
Ocean Gem is the most kino thing to air on CN in at least a decade and you know it
Gonna miss that green short stack.
>She's the only character I'm going to miss from this series, a shame she was wasted.
This. Season 3 is better in basically every possible way. It has Gem Drill and Super Watermelon Island right out the gate, Mr. Greg in the middle, with Bismuth, Beta and Earthlings at the end.
Not to mention season 2 has Sadie's Song in it.
Honestly I think season 4 was the only season that was truly bad, but it was so drawn out due to hiatuses and what we got was so shitty that it basically turned all reception of the show into seething hatred even after it ended.
I think it was more of being lazy than any talent, it felt more like she was more hands off'ish and only jumped in when the fan toxicity became ripe.
It's shit, even though sometime it baits you into thinking something good will eventually happen, it actualyl always stick to the same formula of Steven being an insufferable lardass with no depth that cries whenever something does go his childish way, and Sugar makes ti words of gods, with literally everything obeying and falling to becoming some sort of pet to him. rince repeat.
How much crying do you like?
What a great season opener. Kaiju shit in the first half, a really well paced and tense Steven+Peridot episode in the second. I know people were mad the cluster was resolved so abruptly but Gem Drill is a seriously well paced episode and has so much going on in it that it doesn't feel 11 minutes long.
Hard no.
No, S2 was great. S3 had good moments too but it was when the show generally started to take a nosedive. Whereas before it felt like the show gave everything the proper gravitas, they started just fast-forwarding through everything. There goes Malachite and Cluster. Oh you want to see Lapis interact with her thousand year jailers and generally fit into the staff? Fuck you she gets Barn'd. Wanted a dedicated Jasper arc? She disappears for half the season and when she reappears it's now an Amethyst arc. Jasper will jarringly spawn into episodes at random and will only show character outside of "jerkface" in Alone at Sea and seconds away from death. the artwork just looks shitty for a lot of episodes too.
It definitely had a lot of good episodes, but S2 was just better. S2 still felt like S1.
WAAAAAY TOO MUCH TOWNIES episodes.
And we NEVER got to see Peridots's boss.
There's never been more than 6 townie episodes to a twenty five/six episode season. Season 1 had more than any season thanks to being fifty two episodes long.
I'll grant you that the pacing definitely took a hit around then. Whether it was Ian leaving and Rebecca having to handle things alone that did it or whatever some elements were handled better than others.
First half of season 3 was mostly fine IMO, despite the rushed Cluster shit. Second half is where it definitely started to fall apart, with the Stevonnie/Jasper fight looking notably terrible and the townies suddenly losing 50 IQ.
Crack the Whip was such a strange episode in terms of animation. Rough Draft is usually kinda mediocre (it's usually what people are talking about when they refer to SU looking "bad") but there was some serious miscommunication or whatever going in during that and Raven and Paul's art wasn't helping.
First season is best. Rest never measures up to the build up and execution of season one's finale, but I imagine it's hard to build up any momentum when your shows airs less that a dozen 11 minute episodes a year.
Bretty good, but could be better
8/10
Season 1 WAS great, but the quality started declining and it became really bad after season 3, then it turned into a dumpster fire in season 5.
Season 5's the best season since 1b. 3+4 is the only noticable decline.
Lol good joke
Well, it just won a Peabody Award, so... yeah?
Season 3 was very inferior to Season 2 because of the writing, animation, developments, every aspect of it was inferior.
Mr Greg was a mess fixing a problem didn't exist in first place, it had to retcon Greg's relationship with Pearl during the episode and before it. More than one episode it was 3 episodes smashed together and the result wasn't good
Bismuth is living shit, terrible character and its special episode was boring
You like Sadie anyway
>the only noticable decline
LMAO
Absolutely fucking atrocious since the pilot and it only got worse
Cursed show
Death to all SUfags
It didn't win an Emmy so...
No
No
It's pretty ugly and I'd call it inappropriate for children, but if you have the time you should watch a couple of episodes and decide for yourself.
But that's not why you made this thread is it?
well it finally won a somewhat 'real' award (as opposed to a lgbt virtue signaling award) so it has that going for it peabodyawards.com
Let's say someone doesn't like Peridot. What purpose does Season 2 have no? You can have the best animation in the world but that's irrelevant if it isn't meeting the viewers requirements for something being entertaining. That's something Yea Forums needs to realize about SU's later seasons - they may be flawed, but S2 is a snore in comparison just in terms of stuff actually happening.
5 being better than 3+4 doesn't mean 5 = perfect, silly user.
It probably never will, and I'm a huge SUfag. Getting two awards in one year is still really good though.
>it had to retcon Greg's relationship with Pearl during the episode and before it.
More like it directly addressed their rocky relationship instead of continuing to leave it in the background.
But I'm not surprised Jascucks hate season 3.
>the viewers requirements for something being entertaining.
You don't like it cause you're a shipper but the season was very good, good humor, good dialogue, good lore and information about Homeworld
Connie is a character wasn't well written, we hate her for that simple reason, she's just pandering
>Getting two awards in one year is still really good though.
Awards don't have any value really, I was just saying Robot Chicken got an Emmy and SU didn't
I never mentioned Connie. She's written fine for being Steven's best friend but otherwise I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.
Greg and Pearl's relationship was an interesting dynamic and something most everyone wanted to see get more attention ... but not as a fucking musical. I tried to like Mr. Greg but it really was unwatchable cringe for me whenever it wasn't Pearl singing.
Here we go again. You know all this already anyway
In season 2 they were friends and she spent time with him cause she wanted
She was helping him to fix the van and there was an entire episode dedicated to dreams where she had a nightmare about Greg.
yes, it was good but only if you remove the filler episodes (townie) and connie (garbage character)
>She's written fine for being Steven's best friend
except for the part this status quo has no real reasonto exist to begin with, and then it devolved into "wow a boy and a girl spend 3 month together, they must now have sex, they totally understand it" plot because women pedophilia is a sad common reality.
>I never mentioned Connie.
?
samefag in a strange debate
"stuff happening" does not equal entertainment unless the audience is invested in what's happening and the stakes thereof. if you didn't like peridot during this arc, you probably don't like Steven Universe in general. If you were sticking around purely hoping there would be big space battles/teh anime fights then i'm not sure there's any cure for your terminal denseness
Why is Pearl so fucking hot, bros?
yes, that's a common trope and very often it means she likes him but that reality is hard to accept but the interesting thing here is that she doesn't need to help him but she spent time with that guy Mr Greg assumes she hates and she did it cause she wanted besides we since Space Race in the first season there was a plot about them spending time together like Greg's uncle and aunt did
I just find season 2 to be overrated, especially on a rewatch. I watch SU because it's emotionally driven and the focus on characters is important to me, but if you've already been through someone's arc then why wouldn't you just skip that? Plot episodes are more fun to watch.
Of course you're a shipper and your posts practically admitted it also
Dude, the guy knocked up the love of her life and the love ended up dying , it ain’t the type of thing to happen. Honestly I don’t think Pearl oughta end up with anybody, she needs independence
their emotions after the second season were silly false empty emotions
good fundamentals
A flexible sticc can be just as sexy as jiggly thicc.
oh i wasnt really following the thread and didn't notice where you thought...gem drill... was a good episode. that's okay man you do you
The episode is great (animation-wise, pacing, dialogue etc.), but I do understand why people didn't like the resolution.
yeah they were really playing up the "Pearl finds Greg icky!" aspect, before you got the impression she wasn't 100% comfortable around him i.e. getting jumpy at the thought of him staying with them during House Guest but it at least seemed like she was making an honest effort and could have normal healthy interactions with him largely getting past the immaturity we see in the flashback episodes. they played it up for the drama obviously.
Quiero darle pene a Perla
>Dude, the guy knocked up the love of her life and the love ended up dying , it ain’t the type of thing to happen
RosePearl shipper as usual and Pearl likes Greg, their arc had that clear ending. Pearl and Greg are a couple
Mmm, no, not really, I like Rose/Greg, and that took like 14 years, I just don’t see it happening.
You know it alredy, Space Race was about Greg speding time together and there's a parallelism wih Greg's uncle and aunt who spent time building up planes, they were married and built things together. A spaceship for GregPearl and planes for his uncle and his wife, fixing thing is the equivalent and Greg and Pearl fix the van together as a very normal thing they do in Reformed
holy shit
You are a very crazy RosePearl shipper
Mmm, no, that’s not quite it.
there's a lot about steven universe that's fun and charming but it's a show that on several important levels punishes you the more you watch it
Have another YD kek
When I see a thin girl like that I want to snap her like a twig. Pale skinny girls are made to be dommed.
There's a lot of talent attached to it, but the writing staff sucks
I thought it peaked at the bismuth's introduction, and then went downhill, just to drop the ball into the center of an erupting volcano.
Yeah, it's alright. I wish people didn't get so triggered at the slightest whiff of discussion, but whatever.
