Remember to bump if you're reading, which I hope you do, because no way in hell I'm gonna do this storytime on my own.
>drinking and sucking
I'd rather he feed and seed
This seriously sounds and acts nothing at all like Groot.
"The edgelords are coming!"
Also not sure why there's Kree soldiers with them, but I guess Geoff Shaw had to fill the background somehow, you don't see them later on.
It's closer to Annihilation:Conquest Groot than the "cutesy" stuff from the latest years, but it's still bad and Cates can't into characterization.
Gamora really let herself go.
Why would you even cuff Gamora in first place? Goddamn.
Closer as in, "articulate", sure. But that's what Duggan did with the hard reset, and it sounded more like Annihilation Conquest than this does.
I am literally the only person alive who is happy to see Wraith again.
Oh nevermind, here's one of these random Kree soldiers from the beginning, I guess Cates forgot about the Shi'ar.
Nah, there's others. But it's like 5 people total, counting you.
Well, one of the questions from the topic has been answered, guess which! Meh.
>"You're still emailing in 2043? What are you, my grandpa?"
... And there you have it folks, Donny Cates doesn't know about the other iterations of the Guardians.
>Rider is staying
Blah.
And he didn't even have plans for Quasar and Darkhawk, judging by these replies.
Anyway, consider re-reading Annihilation: Conquest and DnA's GOTG if you really think there's any similarities in tone among these two books. The omnibus is still available IIRC, so it shouldn't be difficult; otherwise do your thing, pirates.
Join us next month in which this arc approaches to its climax, I guess. I don't even know if this shit is selling.
I thought Cosmic Ghost Rider was one of the good guys?
When did Thanos die again? That infinity event?
He dumped them at the first chance he had to join the edgelord freaks. Check the previous issue.
He was killed by Gamora around the end of Infinity Countdown, right before the revelation of her being Requiem.
Switched sides in the second issue because he didn't like Groot and Bill
I've been specifically looking out for him. I just really like seeing him.
>Starlord Tabbard shirt is back
oh shit Helmet return when?
user...
Let me dream dammit!
I really don't like how they're handling Rocket in this series
wait,do they really not know who the fuck it's named for.
Gamora fucked the dude.
have a bump even though i hate everything about this run.
I don't think this series is handling anyone well. Everyone feels like they don't want to be here.
Stormbreaker has a worthiness enchantment on it? wtf would it suddenly drop him to the ground?
oh no starlord is dead again
fucking everyone in this entire series is acting super out of character.
It's named after Wynona Ryder. Not sure how it started, but at some point Richard's last name was mispelled as "Ryder" and people ran with it. Was it during Bendis?
It does have a worthiness enchantment.
How would Gamora know anything about punk rock or punk aesthetics? They couldn’t just have her say “digging the Mohawk”
Same way she knows Quill named his new ship after an actress rather than assuming it's named after their mutual best friend
BRB sure got some new clothes real fast
Yep, it was during Bendis.
Haven't read comics in a long while, is that Phyla? Thats kind of a shitty design. Also did they make Starlord younger like in the movies?
>is that Phyla?
No, it's not.
Phyla from an alternate universe.
I see. That design looks messy. Does she bang Moondragon? Is Moondragon from an alternate universe as well?
The one next to Cosmic Ghost Rider is a Phyla-Vell from an alternate universe (in which Star-Lord and Rich died in the Cancerverse, for the trivia). As you can see, only she changed, but Moondragon (also from that alternate universe) didn't.
616 Moondragon died off-screen, even though she can respawn at any moment. Phyla was never resurrected.
Strontian confidence hax can help a bit with the enchantment, Gladiator's evil cousin her lifted Stormbreaker for about a second in the 90's.
When did 616 Moondragon die? So that Phyla is cancerverse Phyla? Shouldn't she be evil?
Is it just me or is Cosmic Marvel not fun anymore?
Marvel Preview #4 establishes that Peter was born on February 4th, 1962, but in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 #18 he says 1982. Finally, in Guardians 3000 #6, Peter states he was born in 1985 instead.
>When did 616 Moondragon die?
Back in DnA GOTG user, Thanos killed her 10 years ago.
>So that Phyla is cancerverse Phyla?
No, she's a regular Phyla that stayed alive during the events of that universe that led to Thanos Imperative.
>Shouldn't she be evil?
I'll raise you that: Shouldn't she have more characterization beyond "cool girl with a sword and lesbian girlfriend" at this point?
They revealed she was dead without explanation during Infinity Wars.
>Back in DnA GOTG user, Thanos killed her 10 years ago.
Holy shit tripfags are retarded
I misread, whoops... I thought you meant Phyla.
It wasn't shown, like I said, she died "off-screen", nobody knows how it went down, Duggan simply wrote that she was dead.
>even Beta Ray Bro hates that he's in this book
>"we killed one of the people we came here to kill!"
>"better stop fighting then"
How would she know what a mohawk is either
His name is Richard Rider, not Ryder
>"we killed one of the people we came here to kill!"
But they didn't go there to kill him.
Cates isn't answering the letters, you retard
>Defending Cates this hard
Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed, considering he uses the same tone to answer and retcon stuff over Twitter. But would you blame me?
I don't think she can see the way Quill spells when he talks.
>>Defending Cates this hard
Who are you referring to? I'm just correcting your dumb tripfag ass
Calm down, dude.
How is that relevant? That guy could see the spelling, so he chose to both assume the incorrect Bendis spelling was acceptable, and bitched about something that was addressed in the first issue
You are not alone. Though to be fair I don't much like him as a character, just fucking love the design. Still waiting for someone to do something good with him.
"Uuuhhhh calm down"
Fuck off, you attention whore
You're literally just like Cates, trying so hard to be noticed with your stupid fucking tripcode and retarded made-up name
Kill yourself
>You're literally just like Cates
How?
>trying so hard to be noticed with your stupid fucking tripcode
I only use it for storytimes though?
>and retarded made-up name
marvel.wikia.com
>Kill yourself
Yep, you need to calm down.
>i'm the gatekeeper for what spelling is correct
fuck off
What the fuck? This sounds absolutely nothing like Gamora. She sounds completely off. Eve nBendis got her voice. Did Cates ever read anything about her?
>losing to Nebula
This Phyla seems pretty weak despite the supposed cosmic awareness. Meanwhile the Moondragon is absurdly strong since has been shown capable of hurting CGR.
>Ryder? Don't know any.
Damn. Cates didn't even read the GOTG wiki page.
Cates will make them a canon couple, right?
>Even Bendis
No. But yes you are right she reads very weird here. Too cute, soft and going with the flow. Usually she has energy, control, presence.
Wait, fuck, I just noticed something on a second read, third panel:
>"I know you made a promise..."
Cates forgot Groot speaks in third person here. Pffft.
How is he on some planet and in Avengers at the same time?
The only Rider I care about is Richard and once he goes I'll probably go too.
Who the fuck knows, people said Duggan would make them a couple but it didn't happen and he tweeted that Gamora liked Rich (and it looks like Cates is going with that but cheap drama could always happen).
Also it could be he's just making both Gamora and Peter friends and just having her be concerned about him but that just also seems to be something that comes out of nowhere.
He goes back at some point to some bar at the end of No Road Home so he's in space again, but yeah the timeline is wonky. And Cates is hinting about something happening and Rocket hiding because of it, it's ridiculous really. Not like it matters because it looks like Cates wants to kill all the GOTG and stick to his Dark Guardians.
I think Rich will end up joining in the annual in June
He's had so many guest appearances with GotG recently that they might as well stick him on the team since he's got nothing else going.
Galactus is simultaneously eating a planet in the magic realm, and a prisoner in Latveria right now too
>and a prisoner in Latveria right now too
how? Like i know comic books are a silly medium, but it fucking annoys me when they don't even follow their own in universe logic.
Fucking doomwank.
It's not just you.
Doom knocked him out with magic, then strapped on several cosmic energy siphoning devices and is now using him as an energy source to power Latveria.
>Eve nBendis got her voice
This is a blatant lie.
I'm surprised he isn't in Infinity Watch considering his bro is there Although Loki tries fooling him by taking Rich's form
Maybe it's all a ruse, maybe that's actually a skrull.
>more doomwank where he's somehow more powerful than the sorcerer supreme yet again
There are a whole host of writers that I just don't understand how they got employed and manage to keep their jobs.
>Gladiator's evil cousin
also known as better Kallark
I'm not saying she acted like Gamora under Bendis, but at least she spoke like her. She had that respectful but aggressive tone. Here she's speaking like a dumb American
user, this is the shirt he's been wearing for years now.
Why is CGR in the group when he's against them in the comic?
Covers lie. Same covers that show Star-Lord the only one still standing when he's actually the one who dies.
Between her telepathy letting her control an entire planet and her connection to the Dragon of the Moon, Moondragon has always been absurdly strong
Combining the two into psychic dragon constructs makes sense
>Join us in Thanos #1 where we re-write gamora's history to be more in line with the movies!
fucking ugh
>still trying to push cosmic ghost rider
No thank you.
What is that Kree soldier behind Rich looking at? He seems way too happy.
Rich's costume is all ripped up, that soldier can see Rich's Nova star
He's staring at dat ass.
Cates just doesn't give a single fucking SHIT, does he?
It doesn't seem like the Kree have recreation, so if you are in the warrior caste this is probably about as good as a day gets.
Cates' Rich is way too passive, this is the guy who fights to the death and does things on impulse. Seeing Peter "die" would send him to a frenzy.
He's going for that Terran booty.
Nope he doesn't, the worst is that once this is over we're probably going to get Aaron in this comic (since he wants to write Guardians and Cates wants to write Thor) and it's going to be shit too. I am honestly hoping for Bowers & Sims, Landy, or Ewing to take over. Hell I'll even take Zub over Aaron and I don't particularly like Zub's writing that much.
>Cates' Rich is way too passive, this is the guy who fights to the death and does things on impulse.
Yeah, there's a lot wrong with this Rich, and this is supposedly the guy who cares a lot about him and shit... But Cates made him get battered to hell and back by the Dark Guardians, then run to the GOTG like a regular Nova Corps, only to do absolutely nothing during this new battle.
The whole thing feels off. Like you can clearly see Cates cares more about the Dark Guardians yet is forced to write about the main team, so there's no real point on expecting something good to happen to them. And Rich almost feels like an afterthought.
I just read that issue and I kind of wish Rich was really there because some serious shit is going down with his brother and mother there.
Also, Rich didn't know Quill was chumming it up with Beta Ray Bill and alt Phyla. So, what the hell did he think Quill and Groot would be able to do against a group of guys he jobbed to?
I thought Captain Marvel was the deadliest woman in the galaxy.
No, Gamora is the one who gets called that, ever since her origins.
For as much as they pump Carol up call her mightiest or the strongest they always kept it as "on earth"
>and this is supposedly the guy who cares a lot about him and shit
Really? he said that? The only good thing he did is acknowledge Rich is extremely fast when he's in the air but other than that he really hasn't done much. But congrats to him because I'm mostly reading this because Rich is here and I'll be tuning in for the Annual because of Rich and all the other characters, writers and artists involved in that (probably buying it if it's good).
He's so not dying, this is just another bait cliffhanger. But yeah Everyone with the exception of Gamora and Rich is out. Next issue is probably going to have a long drawl out confrontation between Gamora and the Dark Guardians were nothing happens except Nova possibly getting Black hole'd with the other Cosmic heroes when Hela comes in with Thanos' head and the Black Order for another cliffhanger. Next issue everyone is fine but Nova and the other heroes are still trapped until the annual.
Carol is claled "Earth's mightiest hero" (pffft!) and even though she doesn't exactly embody that it's still Earth's not the Galaxy's or the Universe's.
Even Mar-Vell was Protector of the Universe at one point.
Reminds me of this.
>Really? he said that?
Yeah, apparently during a Marvel panel he said Rich was one of his favorite heroes and whatnot, so I also suppose he's going to write the story about him in the upcoming Annual (still hoping Ewing writes the Quasar story, for some Gruenwald synergy).
>He's so not dying, this is just another bait cliffhanger.
Maybe, maybe not, but I honestly think he did, specially since he received a laser blast to the chest directly. And Cates isn't known for subtlety, every time people said stuff like "oh I bet he's fine" during Death of the Inhumans, it turned out they were dead for good. God I hated that fucking mini.
>Nova possibly getting Black hole'd with the other Cosmic heroes
It's weird because I figured the black hole in the Annual was actually the one that sucked (and presumably killed) all other characters in #1, but Nova is still around, so... No clue. Also no mention of Darkhawk for a while, I haven't read Wolverine & The Infinity Watch yet though I heard the Raptors were there.
>Even Mar-Vell was Protector of the Universe at one point.
Well that's more of an official role given by Eon, so Quasar was also that for a good part of a decade.
The cover was later touched up, though some versions, like the digital copy from Marvel's store, still used the original unedited one.
God I hope he just writers the Cosmo story. I rather another writer get Rich. Yeah Ewing seems like he would like doing Quasar.
>And Cates isn't known for subtlety, every time people said stuff like "oh I bet he's fine" during Death of the Inhumans
Eh ever since the Inhumans failed they haven't been that much of importance, it's probably why Marvel allowed him to massacre them and even then Black Bolt, Medusa, and Crystal are still around. Cates also said that the characters who were there after the first issue of his run was his main team and a lot of the readers read GotG mainly for Star-Lord and Rocket. So I doubt he's dead, especially after the death-scene in Infinity Wars and Cates threatening to kill Rocket in the next arc (which is already pissing people off).
> haven't read Wolverine & The Infinity Watch yet though I heard the Raptors were there.
It's mostly Robbie and his Fraternity group, no Darkhawk there. Ends with Loki pretending to be a Nova corpsman paying a visit to Gloria Rider asking her that he's there to talk about Robbie and if she minds going to space with him. My guess he'll use her as a bargaining chip for the time stone guy.
who is the Zodiac Killer looking dude?
Gamora says right there that they're her friends. Plus, Cates already teased Rider in a previous issue and Kitty with Peter for some reason
Since when has Gamora been this much of a wuss?
kinda dig the army of little groots
Kitty and Peter are a dead couple that I wish writers would forget. But ditto on the other thing although I wouldn't put it past Cates to have them realize they are in love just for cheap drama. No one but MCU fans would like that and they would just post panels all over twitter instead of reading the comic.
>I wouldn't put it past Cates to have them realize they are in love just for cheap drama
Just imagine him picking up after Bendis' plots... People who worship the very ground he stands on would flip the fuck out on him.
technically BRB's uniform is magic so he can just resummon it.
Really? The guy ate up getting a planet explode around for god sake.
huh, Gladiator won a fight for once, against BRB no less.
It's not like they even showed how he turned the fight around, look at the previous pages closely... But yeah.
I'm glad the plot picked up finally, the Guardians were too passive in the plot until now.
I welcome his return as well. I could see both the "Dark Guardians" team and the current one merging into a single group at the end of this arc.
Well people were already throwing a few bitchfits about Kitty popping up including some Kittyfags. Did anyone really like that couple?
As for Bendis he at the least kept Gamora and Peter as strictly platonic, even through the BFF bullshit.
