The only reason Ozai was a treat was thanks to Sozin's comet, Azula was more powerful and Iroh was equal but better fighter, not to mention Zuko that almost killed him... Aang could have defeated Ozai without killing him, like knocking him unconscious until the comet left.

No it's a bullshit copout to him having to compromise or search for another way. Him not killing Ozai is fine, him being gifted a solution that doesn't require any sacrifice or even any work to find out is the issue.

You can say that but Aang would have a hard time determining if people are worth giving bending or not. Maybe they'll use it for wrongdoings.
I don't think it's a copout. Anything else would be underwhelming or would go against Aang's arc.
