There's your problem. People on YouTube for the most part took extreme stances on the movie simply because Brie Lawson's political views. You had people like pic related pumping out dozens of Captain Marvel videos just to clickbait and scam dumb impressionable internet culture warriors into supporting him on patreon. Truth be told, they were not interested in the movie or the character. They're in it for themselves and when it comes down to it, if there was no money involved they wouldn't make so many videos complaining about it or creating narratives of Disney inflating numbers.

Everyone I've talked to that's seen the movie liked her and the movie (that's maybe like five people). Most of them don't go making videos on youtube because they don't care that much, they like something then move on with their lives.

Because she's the current trend and flavor of the MCU, I know people who buy her merch and go "yay Captain Marvel!!" yet they fell asleep in her movie and couldn't tell you the plot or thought it was just OK. Kind of like the normies who hated Suicide Skwad but "OMG Harley Quinn is soooo awesome".

They didn’t. Audience rating on tomatoes even after the bad review purge is still below 60% it was a meh movie that had a lead that was wooden. I liked the last 30 mins but most of the flick was boring. Anecdotal but I saw the movie a week after the release and the theatre wasn’t even full. People didn’t really laugh at the jokes. Movie felt like a obligation and a chore.

AMatW was the one marketed as being important to Infinity War, and it didn't do the numbers of CM nonetheless.

It was ok and I like the comics and mcu def not the best movie or character at all. Glad it did well but I won’t pretend the movie is smart or groundbreaking
